MO Local Obituaries for the Week of June 5, 2008 Velma Louella Bailey Velma Louella Bailey of Rolla, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born January 15, 1933 at Viburnum, Missouri to Corby and Dora Ann (Medley) Midyett. She passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 75 years. On June 30, 1951, she was united in marriage to Rev. Joseph David Bailey Sr. She was a member of the Full Gospel Mission Church in Rolla. She loved to cook for her family and bake homemade donuts. She loved singing gospel music and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and needlepoint. She loved being around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, George and Lydia Bailey; one son-in-law, Larry Carlton; one brother, Lloyd Midyett; two sisters, Gladyene Neuman and husband Bill and Carol McMullen; brother-in-law, Thomas Bailey and one special niece, Barbara (Bobbie) Helms. She is survived by her husband of 56 years; three sons, Joe Bailey Jr. of Rolla, Missouri, Larry Bailey and wife Sue of St. James, Missouri and Kurt Bailey Sr. of Millen, Georgia; six daughters, Evelyn Carlton of Edgar Springs, Missouri, Betty Bailey and David Haugen, significant other, of Lexington, Minnesota, Velma Ruth Skaggs and husband Bill of Rolla, Missouri, Erma Gayle Robinson of Lexington, Minnesota, Kathleen Gruver and husband Leon of Cuba, Missouri and Patricia Bailey of Rolla, Missouri; special daughters/nieces, Flora Jane Hokenberry, Virginia (Ginny Lea) Riley, Salina Helms, and Edna McBroom; special new friend, Tyler Wax; 19 grandchildren, William Haugen, Christina Moc and husband Jeremy, William Skaggs and wife Danielle, Robert Skaggs and wife Amanda, Amy Skaggs and fiancé Bruce Mullee, Jason Skaggs, Brad Gruver and fiancé Johna, Ashley Bailey, Rachel Gruver, Clarissa Gruver, Joshua Robinson, Rebecca Robinson, Brandon Robinson, Chris Collins, Justin Roark and wife Melanie, Phillip Roark and wife Angel, Kurt Kenneth Bailey Jr., Amanda Cramer and husband DJ and James Bailey; 15 great grandchildren, Kayla Haugen, Jesse Skaggs, Julianne Skaggs, Sidnee Skaggs, Derek Skaggs, Aaron Skaggs, Tyler Skaggs, Peyton Skaggs, Steven Skaggs, Theresa Skaggs, Danielle Keeney, Elizabeth Keeney, Jonathon Gruver, Autumn Cramer and D.J. Cramer; one brother, Cecil Midyett of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Tessie Head and husband Gus and Rosella Bailey, all of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Britton- Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Phillip Helms officiating. Opening prayer was given by Rev. Don Mitchell and Rev. Elmer Garrison offered special remembrances. The Eulogy was given by daughter, Betty Bailey. “In the Garden” was sung by the daughters with other songs sung by a granddaughter, Ashley Bailey and great granddaughter, Sidnee Skaggs and Cora Jane Skyles. Casket bearers were William Skaggs, Robert Skaggs, Jason Skaggs, Roger Helms, Bruce Mullee, and James Paul Bailey. Honorary Bearers were Jesse Skaggs, Steven Skaggs, Tyler Wax, Brad Gruver and Derrick Skaggs. Committal prayer and burial were in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery in Viburnum, Missouri. Remembrances were made by son, David Bailey and poems were read by grandson, Jason Skaggs. “Amazing Grace” was sung by all. Opal Martha Edgar Opal Martha Edgar of Sligo-Cook Station area, was born April 9, 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri to Arthur and Naomi (Coleman) Ogle. She passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 88 years. On June 20, 1939, Opal was united in marriage to Reuben James Edgar who preceded her in death on July 15, 2006. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherryville for many years. She loved the springtime of the year when she could garden, plant seeds and flowers. Opal enjoyed cooking for her family and looked forward to being with all of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter-in-law, Janet Edgar; one brother, Lewis Ogle; four sisters, Alice Burks and husband Arthur, Jean Richardson and husband Tom, Edna Schular and husband Fred and Betty Swyers and husband Clifford; one sister-in-law, Billie Ogle; three brothers-in-law, Harold Edgar, Cecil Edgar and Ernie Moline. She is survived by four sons, Jerry Edgar of Cuba, Missouri, Jim Edgar and wife Brenda of Irondale, Missouri, Bill Edgar and wife Janet and Jack Edgar and wife Jane, all of Steelville, Missouri; three daughters, Joyce Gibbs and husband Clarid of Dillard, Missouri, JoAnn Becker of Steelville, Missouri and Mary McConnell and husband Mike of St. Charles, Missouri; 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; one brother, Tom Ogle of Calimesa, California; one brother-in-law, Elmer Edgar and wife Edna of St. Louis, Missouri; five sisters-in-law, Bonnie Edgar of Springfield, Missouri, Alma Edgar of St. James, Missouri, Bonnie Lea and husband Pete and Beulah Moline, all of Steelville, Missouri and Wanda Freie of Columbia, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Britton- Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Rod Farthing officiating. Special songs of “One Day at a Time” and “Precious Memories” were sung by grandson, Deron Gibbs and accompanied by Angela Gibbs. Casket bearers were Jason Edgar Deron Gibbs, Chris Gibbs, Jeff Becker, Billy Edgar, Brian Edgar, Mark McConnell and Jared Edgar. Ruth Mae Pack Ruth Mae Pack, nee Buchanan, of Bourbon, Missouri was born on Monday, June 16, 1930 in Spruce Pine, North Carolina to Newland Buchanan and Media McClellan Buchanan. She passed away in her home on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 11 days. Ruth married James W. Pack on December 27, 1948 in Bakersfield, North Carolina and to this union three children were born. She was a member of Delhi Baptist Church and previously taught Sunday School preschoolers. She was a former employee of Proctor Products in Bourbon, Missouri as a packer for several years. Her hobbies were reading, working word puzzles, gardening, raising chickens and doing chores outside. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Sue Buchanan and brother, Columbus Buchanan. She is survived by her husband of the home; daughters, Brenda Hamilton, Shirley (Tex) Smith, and Cindy (Kevin) Ware, all of Bourbon, Missouri; grandchildren, Christy (Dennis) Nolie, Matthew Bremer, Tina (Scott) Gibbs, and Timothy Ware, all of Bourbon, Missouri; great grandchildren, Jered Nolie, Alexandra Gibbs, Mackenzie Ware, Delane Nolie, Brandon Gibbs, and Titus Nolie; special niece and nephew, Ron and Lil Pack; other relatives and friends. Visitation was Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service was Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Bourbon, Missouri with Rev. Pat Panepinto and Rev. Kevin Crowder officiating. Burial at Delhi Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Harry Eugene Trask Harry Eugene Trask formerly of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, April 2, 1920 at Sullivan, Missouri to the union of Joseph and Nellie May (nee; Helms) Trask and passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Conroe, Texas at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 25 days. Harry proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. He entered the service in September of 1941 and served on the USS O’Brien and the USS Barton. Harry left the service in December of 1946. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Moss on September 3, 1948 at St. Louis, Missouri and to this union four children were born. He retired in the early 1980’s as a meat cutter for Kroger’s in St. Louis, Missouri after 20 plus years of dedicated service. Harry always enjoyed being outside. He would work in his garden (growing beautiful vegetables), go for long walks and whistle along the way. He enjoyed singing and dancing in his younger day but what mattered most to him was spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; other relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, of Conroe Texas; two sons, Mark and wife Doris Trask of Springfield, Missouri and Jim Trask of Meteetse, Wyoming; two daughters, Fonda and husband John Phillips and Shauna and husband Neil Jacobs, all of Conroe, Texas; two brothers, Robert Trask of Wentzville, Missouri and Albert and wife Elsie Trask of Litchfield, Illinois; two sisters, Audrey Hubbard of St. Louis, Missouri and Doris and husband Harry Lott of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Cave Springs Cemetery, Spring Bluff, Missouri, with full military honors.
