Jacob Vernon Adams
Jacob Vernon Adams was born Wednesday, October 23, 1918 at Dillard, Mo., a
son of the late James Franklin Adams and Lucinda Ellen (Willhite) Adams.
He departed this life Thursday, May 31, 2001, at the Missouri Baptist
Medical Center, St. Louis, Mo., at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 8
days.
On March 14, 1940, at Potosi, Mo., Jake was united in marriage to Jenny
Bernice Crabtree. Three sons and two daughters were born to this union.
They have enjoyed sixty-one years together.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, and a
sister-in-law Clifford and Gertie Adams and Treffie Adams and one sister
and three brothers-in-law Nellie and Leslie Gilliam, and Willard Arlsman,
Harry Wood and Orville Crabtree.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Bernice
Adams of Viburnum, Mo.; five children, Betty and husband Bruce Moses of
Glendale, Arizona, Ray Adams and wife Phyllis of St. Louis, Mo., Kenneth
Adams and wife Paulette of Viburnum, Mo., Larry Adams and wife Barbara of
St. Louis, Mo., Sharon and husband Frank Orris of New Port News, Virginia;
one sister Manervia Arlsman of Salem, Mo.; sisters and brothers-in-law
Hilma Adams, Joe and Geraldine Alexander, all of Steelville, Mo., Eunice
Wood of St. Louis, Mo., Lucille Crabtree of Potosi, Mo., Harold and Minnie
Turnbough of St. Louis, Mo.; eleven grandchildren, Edward, Michael, Keith,
Jennifer, Joann, Vicky, Richard, Kathryn, Michelle, Nicholas, and Rachel;
eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
friends.
Jacob Vernon Adams lay in state 5-9 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 2
p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. David Hopkins
officiating. Musical selections were provided by vocalist Crystal Moses and
an instrumental on the guitar by Bruce Moses.
Committal prayers and interment were in Old Dillard Cemetery, Dillard, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers were Richard Adams, Nicholas Adams, Edward Moses,
Matthew Moses, Brandon Moses, and David Ogle.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
Richard Clyde Conway
Richard Clyde Conway of Cuba, Mo. was born on January 29, 1929 at St.
Louis, Mo. to the union of Edmond Conway and Ellen Sophie Conway nee Deuker
and passed away on May 31, 2001 at the Cuba Manor, Cuba, Mo. at the age of
72 years, 4 months and 2 days.
On October 25, 1952 Richard was united in marriage to Ella Jane Storz at
Pocahontas, Arkansas. Three sons, Richard, Jr., Mark and David were born to
this union. Richard and Ella Jane have been happily married for 48 years.
Richard was a Korean Veteran. He worked and retired from the Special School
District in St. Louis, Mo. as a parts distributor. He was also a member of
St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Ella Jane Conway; three sons Richard Conway, Jr. and wife Paula, Mark
Conway and wife Karen and David Conway and wife Rae Jean; one brother Don
Conway; three sisters Shirley Heck and husband John, Joyce Heil and husband
Jack and Judy Schwend and husband Bill; three grandchildren Mark Conway,
Jr., Shera Conway and Capri Conway; one great-granddaughter Lea Marie
Conway; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Richard was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather,
great-grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be
sadly missed.
Richard Clyde Conway was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 2 p.m. with
Rev. Roger Schnakenberg officiating. Interment was in Meramec Hills
Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Chester Arthur Crabtree
Chester Arthur Crabtree was born Saturday, August 22, 1914 in Dillard, Mo.
to the late Water A. Crabtree and Laura Belle Hogan Crabtree and departed
this life Thursday, May 31, 2001 at the Friendship Village of West County
in Chesterfield, Mo. at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 9 days.
Chet was united in marriage to Wilma Marguerite Walker on December 24, 1935
in Steelville, Mo. and to this union one daughter was born. Chet and Wilma
made their home together for 65+ years. Chet taught school for many years,
some of which were: Davisville, Gibbs, Cherryville, Steelville, Leasburg,
and last in the Hazelwood School district. Chet received his bachelors
degree at SMS in Springfield, Mo. and his Masters in guidance counseling at
Washington University in St. Louis. Chet also worked as an inspector at
McQuay Norris, and at McDonnell Douglas.
Chet accepted the Lord early in life and was a member of the St. John
United Church of Christ in St. Clair, Mo. Chet was a member of the
Steelville, Lebanon Lodge #77 A.F. and A.M. and the Martha and Mary Chapter
#364 Order of the Eastern Star, of which he is a Past Patron. He enjoyed
reading, riding horses and was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Club
of Missouri. Chet was also very fond of his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren and treasured the time he could spend with them.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Gladys Casebolt, and
Ruby Fox, one brother Clyde Crabtree, and a sister-in-law Adeline Crabtree.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife Wilma, his
daughter Phyllis Russell, of Chesterfield, Mo.; his sister Jennie Ruth
Crabtree of Denver, Colorado; his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Ralph
Fox of Denver, Colorado; Jason Walker of St. Louis County; James and Bonnie
Walker of St. Louis County; Lillie Stout of St. Clair, Mo.; Ina and Alvin
King of Sullivan, Mo.; Vera and Rev. Howard Wymer of Elkland, Mo.
His grandchildren Jeffrey Russell and wife Catherine of Town and Country,
Mo.; and Jennifer Klein and husband Paul of Houston, Texas; his
great-grandchildren Andrew Russell, Erin Russell, Daven Klein and Dillon
Klein, cousins, other relatives and many friends, all who will sadly miss
and fondly remember Chester "Chet" Arthur Crabtree.
Visitation was held at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. on
Saturday, June 2, 2001 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Masonic and Eastern Star
Services at 7 p.m.
Funeral service was held Sunday, June 3, 2001 at the Hutson Funeral Chapel
in Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Valerie Hutson
sang How Great Thou Art, In The garden. Those serving as pallbearers were
Robert and Donald Crabtree, Gale and Dale Casebolt, Bob Woods and Jesse
Hogan.
Memorials are suggested to the St. John United Church of Christ in St.
Clair, Mo. or the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service was held in Chesterfield, Mo. at the Friendship Village
of West County on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 10:30 a.m.
Burial was in the Steelville Cemetery.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in
Steelville, Mo.
Mary Dorothy Emory
Mary Dorothy Emory of Sullivan, Mo., formerly of St. Louis, passed away
Thursday, May 24, 2001 at the age of 80 years.
Mrs. Emory was born August 24, 1920 at St. Louis, Mo. to the late John and
Rose (Adams) Tozer. She lived in St. Louis until coming to the Sullivan
area four years ago. On June 2, 1940 she was married to Chester Emory and
to this marriage one son was born. Mrs. Emory was a bookkeeper for American
Investment Company many years and later retired from there. She enjoyed
flowers and plants and also found pleasure in reading. Mrs. Emory was a
member of Saint Anthony Parish in Sullivan.
She is survived by a son Roger Scott Emory of Sullivan, a sister and
brother-in-law Rosemary and Donald Weidenhaft of Sullivan, a niece Mary
Weidenhaft of Sullivan, and a nephew, Mark Weidenhaft and wife Diane of
Kansas City, Mo., cousins, William Seal of Leasburg, Mo. and Robert Seal of
Ballwin, Mo., other relatives and friends. Mrs. Emory was preceded in death
by her husband Chester in December of 1997.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated May 29, 2001 at 10 a.m. from St.
Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Father Theodore Brunnert
officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. In lieu of
flowers, masses or memorials to the charity of your choice are preferred.
Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home,
Sullivan, Mo.
Eunice Hazle Hutson
Eunice Hazle Hutson nee Ivie was born at Hand, Arkansas on January 20,
1918, to the union of Jesse Jeffeson Ivie and Rena (Fowler) Ivie.
She entered eternal rest Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at the Crawford County
Nursing Center, Cuba, Mo., at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 3 days.
April 20, 1935 she was married to Floy Matthew Brand. Two sons, Joe Richard
Brand and Gerald Floy Brand were born to this union.
March 20, 1949 she was united in marriage to Roy Hutson. To this union one
daughter was born, Kathy J. Hutson. Roy passed away October 26, 1995. She
was also preceded in death by her parents; both her sons, Joe Brand and
Gerald Brand; five brothers, Hosea A. Ivie, A. B. Ivie, J. R. Ivie, Carey
J. Ivie and Lawrence E. Ivie.
She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Kathy and husband Jimmy Maize
of Rolla, Mo.; three brothers, Rev. Marvin Ivie and wife Betty of Cuba,
Mo., Calvin Ivie and wife Judy of Phoenix, Arizona, Billie Joe Ivie and
wife Brenda of Maryland Heights, Mo.; eight grandchildren and eleven
great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many
friends.
Eunice Hazle Hutson lay in state 5-9 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2001, at the First
Assembly of God, Steelville, Mo., with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in First Baptist Church Cemetery,
Cherryville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Curtis Brand, Kenton Brand,
Kerry Brand, Kyle Brand, Mitchell Brand and Brian Brown.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
Ransom Mathas Robinson
Ransom Mathas "Grandpa" Robinson went home to be with the Lord on Saturday,
May 26, 2001. He was 76 years, 4 months and 9 days of age.
Ransom, the son of the late Stanley J. and Mable L. Williams Robinson, was
born January 17, 1925 at Carroll, Illinois.
He was united in marriage to Mae V. Krepps on February 22, 1943 in
Arkansas, and to this union six children were born.
He is survived by his wife of the home; six children: Sandra L. Dunning of
Corpus Christy, Texas, Terry P. Robinson of St. James, Mo., David G.
Robinson of Cuba, Mo., Donna C. Farmer of Jefferson City, Mo., Michael A.
Robinson of Cuba, Mo., and Timothy W. Robinson of Rolla, Mo.; two brothers:
E. Les Robinson of Charlotte, Tennessee and Rudy Robinson of Naples,
Florida; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and two
great-grandchildren.
Ransom was an electrician by trade and an Assembly of God minister. Before
pastoring at Belle Assembly of God in Belle, Mo. for 4 years and at
Cherryville for 13 years, he served as an evangelist for several years.
Ransom and his wife, Mae owned and operated Mae's Florist in St. James for
33 years, in Steelville for 13 years, and in Cuba for 12 years. He enjoyed
visiting with the customers, and he always had something to say. In his
spare time, he enjoyed fishing and coon hunting. He also enjoyed raising
and riding his horses.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at the Jones
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mick Thrasher, Rev. T. B. Conway, and Rev.
Denny officiating. Hymns, "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder", "How Great
Thou Art," and "Amazing Grace" were sung by his family with Jackie Robinson
accompanying on the organ. Pallbearers were Tim Robinson, Terry Robinson,
David Robinson, Michael Robinson, Paul Farmer, and Bob Dunning. Interment
was in the High Gate Cemetery in High Gate, Mo. Memorials may be made to
Phelps County Hospice; cards are available at Jones Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home in St. James,
Mo.
Freeman Austin Scott
Freeman Austin Scott was born in Shannon County, Mo., Tuesday, January 20,
1914, a son of the late Floyd A. Scott and Nina Mae Scott Reeves (nee
Walker).
He entered eternal rest Friday, May 25, 2001, at the Missouri Baptist
Medical Center, Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 6 days.
Freeman attended Steelville High School, graduating in 1931. After high
school he lived with his aunt and uncle when he started teaching school at
the Houston School near Maramec Spring. He also taught in one-room schools
at Big Bend, Midland, Benton Creek, Berryman, Farrar, Oak Ridge, Riverside,
Center Point, Cherryville, and Cook Station before he retired in 1962. He
attended Southwest Baptist College, Rolla School of Mines and night classes
at other colleges.
On June 14, 1935, at Steelville, Mo., Freeman married Elsie Mason, daughter
of Charles Leonard Mason and Cora Edith (Brown) Mason. Two sons and two
daughters were born to this union. They have enjoyed sixty-five years
together.
Freeman not only taught school to make a living for his family, he did
janitorial duties, woodcutting, trapping, farming, concrete work,
carpentry, bus driving, and hauling. His interests include fishing,
hunting, enjoying nature, floating the river, and finding and collecting
Indian arrowheads and artifacts. His church was also an important part of
his life, and at the time of passing was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Lesterville, Mo.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Elsie
Scott of Steelville, Mo.; two sons, Freeman Scott, Jr., and wife Cynthia of
Kilgore, Texas, Donald Scott and wife Judy of Maryland Heights, Mo.; two
daughters, Nina and husband Doug Fitzgerald of Middlebrook, Mo., Minnie and
husband John Crisan of Louisiana, Mo.; one brother, Charles Walter Scott
and wife Pansy of Steelville, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Virgie Mason of
Belgrade, Mo.; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Sibyl
Campbell; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, May Miner, Glenn Campbell,
Tressie Schweinfurter, Calvin, Cecil, Malcom, and Naomi Mason.
Freeman Austin Scott lay in state 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2001 at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 1
p.m. Monday, May 28, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Grover Pingleton
and Rev. Bill Jackson officiating. Musical selections were provided by a
granddaughter Scottye Adkins, a great-granddaughter Lauren Meyer and a
Midland Church Group.
Committal prayers and interment were in Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers were Eric Adkins, Mike Edgar, Neil Fitzgerald, Kevin
Jones, Mike Klinghammer, Dwayne Meyer, Ross Richardson, and Dennis White.

William Johnny Woods
William Johnny Woods was born Saturday, June 17, 1939, in Steelville, Mo.,
a son of the late Myrt Johnnie Woods and Elsie Irene Woods (nee Brown). He
departed this life Friday, May 25, 2001, at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St.
Louis, Mo., at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 8 days.
On January 2, 1960, "Willie" was united in marriage to Audrey Jeanine
Danner. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union. They have
enjoyed forty-one years together.
In June of 1976, Willie became a member of Pyramid Lodge #180 AF & AM, it
is now Pome Granate-Pyramid Lodge #95 AF & AM.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife Audrey
Woods of the home in St. Louis, Mo.; two sons and two daughters, Johnny Joe
Woods of St. Louis, Mo., Cynthia Lou Woods of Union, Mo., Jimmy Allen Woods
and wife Sarah of Steelville, Mo. and Sherry Lynn Miller and husband Robert
of St. Louis, Mo.
Two brothers, Dick Woods and wife Beverly of St. Louis, Mo., Terry Woods
and wife Linda of Washington, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Gean and husband
Dale Young, Violet "Sis" Sanders and husband Estel, all of Steelville, Mo.,
Joyce Olney and husband Dewey of Little River, Texas and ten grandchildren.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Larry and Marie Danner of Fremont,
California, Ronald and Barbara Danner of Pekin, Illinois, Juanita and Bob
Leinhenseder of Bloomington, Illinois and Theodore and Karen Danner of

p.m., with Lebanon Lodge #77 AF & AM officiating, Sunday, May 25, 2001, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, 2001, in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Musical selections were Amazing
Grace and Go Rest High On The Mountain.
Committal prayers and interment were in Cherryvalley Cemetery, Steelville,
Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Tim Richardson, Eddie Sanders, Cody
Sanders, Johnny Sanders, Travis Sanders, Noah Woods and Randy Woods.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
James Wallace Wolfmeyer, Sr.
James Wallace Wolfmeyer, Sr. of Cuba, Mo. was born on January 23, 1927 to
the union of George Wolfmeyer and Josephine Wolfmeyer nee Cook and passed
away unexpectedly of a heart attack on May 31, 2001 at the age of 74 years,
4 months and 8 days.
Jim, as he was known by family and friends, served in the United States
Navy Reserves during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was honorably
discharged after faithfully serving his country.
Jim was a very active member of Holy Cross Church and the Knights of
Columbus (Fourth Degree). He was a member of the Cuba American Legion Post
No. 522 and Commander of the Post.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his five sons,
James Wolfmeyer, Jr. and wife Bernie, Terry Wolfmeyer and wife Mary,
William Wolfmeyer and wife Yolanda, Patrick Wolfmeyer and wife Nancy and
John Wolfmeyer and wife Donna; two daughters Loraine Lawson and husband Ken
and Tammy Martin and husband Adam; step-daughter Lynn Green; two sisters
Bernice McCormick and husband James and Betty Hansen and husband Chris; 14
grandchildren, Kathleen Wolfmeyer, Terri Wolfmeyer Haugen, Tracie
Wolfmeyer, Tricia Wolfmeyer, Jeremy Wolfmeyer, Erica Wolfmeyer, Katie
Wolfmeyer, Patrick T. Wolfmeyer, Jr., Gabe Lawson, Elizabeth Bagwell, Shea
Martin and Sasha Martin; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Jim was a loving father, grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew
him and will be sadly missed.
James Wallace Wolfmeyer, Sr. was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo. where the Knights of Columbus posted an Honor Guard and Vigil
Services were held immediately followed by an American Legion Service by
American Legion Post No. 522.
Funeral Mass was held on Monday, June 4, 2001 at Holy Cross Church, Cuba,
Mo. at 10 a.m. with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. Interment Holy Cross
Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
