MO Local Obituaries for the Week of June 7, 2017 Jerry Allen "Jay" Fleming Jerry Allen "Jay" Fleming of Cuba, Missouri was born on August 8, 1954 in Clarksburg, West Virginia and passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the age of 62 years. Jay served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer for six years and later served as a Police Officer in West Virginia. He was a truck driver for Andrews Logistics, LLC prior to his retirement. Jay loved his family, horseback riding, riding his Harley, dog training and was an amazing cook. He was preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Bertha (Georgeadis) Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Fleming; three sons, Seth, Cole and Jason Fleming; three step-children, Nathan Storz, Gabriel (Grace) Negretti and Cherry (Shawn) Kelley; 10 grand- children; other relatives and friends. Elaine was a 1975 graduate of Belle High School. She was a homemaker and volunteered her time at the Salvation Army. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, reading her bible and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Delmar Vincent; life- partner, Gordon Foster; and grandparents, William Oliver and Viva Giesler, Gilbert and Minnie Vincent. Steve William Hodges Jr. Steve William Hodges Jr. of Cuba, Missouri was born Monday, October 21, 1985 at Des Peres, Missouri to Steve and Sandra (nee Allen) Hodges Sr. and passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the age of 31 years. Steve graduated from Cuba High School in 2004. After high school Steve worked for many different places including Boys and Girls Town, St. James, Briggs and Stratton, Rolla and MEPCO of Cuba, Missouri. Steve was a lifelong avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues. He enjoyed shooting pool, playing baseball, basketball and football with his friends. Steve would spend hours fishing and boating every chance he got. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Sally Allyne Hoyer Sally Allyne Hoyer of St. James, Missouri was born on January 4, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late George Dewey Pitts Sr. and Pearl May (Fierce) Pitts and passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017. In late 1953 Sally was working as a waitress in the old Main Street Cafe in Cuba, Missouri when in walked Gordon Lawrence Hoyer, coming in to play pinball. Gordon and Sally were wed just days after her 16th birthday on January 18, 1954. Gordon worked mining iron ore and when the mine closed in Missouri he whisked his wife and two young daughters to Argentina where iron ore mining was new. The Argentinians needed help getting started, so Gordon taught them what they needed to learn. Gordan and Sally went into the motel management business and traveled from Colorado, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, before coming home to Missouri where Sally opened her own beauty shop and together they opened the Dog and Suds in Cuba, Missouri. Gordon passed away in 1995. It was important for Sally to have Sunday dinners and family reunions every year. She was also the official pie maker of the family and would make at least 15 pies on Thanksgiving. She loved flowers and her yard showed it. Sally started working at the Rolla Wal-Mart, where she did just about every job in the store and was later moved to the door greeter position. It was truly the perfect job for her. Her passion was raising money for The Children's Miracle Network and St. Jude's Children's Hospital and she gave to both very diligently. She had a strong faith in God, and was a member of the St. James First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Pearl Pitts; husband, Gordon Hoyer; brothers, George Pitts Sr., Harold Pitts, Billy Pitts, and Mack Pitts; sisters, Lillie Beaudin, Ima Pitts and Linda Pitts; grandson, Travis Mercer; and special companion Robert Heim. Rilma Wilkinson Mash Rilma Wilkinson Mash of St. James, Missouri was born on May 1, 1930 to Earl Esco and Lena Webb Cottrell in Dillard, Missouri and passed away on May 31, 2017 at the age of 87 years and 30 days. She was married to Johnnie "Tim" Lavern Wilkinson on January 22, 1949 and to this union six children were born: Ercil Wilkinson and wife Kathy of West Port, Kentucky, Jean Sanders and husband Thomas of Steelville, Missouri, Vicky Keys and husband Roy of Mansfield, Missouri, Debra Wilkinson and companion Fred of Steelville, Missouri, Rena Stulce of Cuba, Missouri and Etta White and husband Bennie of St. James, Missouri. Rilma was united in marriage to Thomas E. Mash on November 9, 1992 in Steelville, Missouri. Rilma was an avid St. Louis Cardinals far and she enjoyed watching and listening to the Cardinals games on the TV and radio. She was always busy with her activities. She loved to quilt and made many beautiful family heirlooms. She enjoyed many hours putting together puzzles and working word search. When she was not watching the St Louis Cardinals on TV, she like to watch games shows and even watched wrestling and finding new recipes on a cooking show. She liked to be indoors but she enjoyed the outdoors and especially planting and harvesting her garden produce. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Esco and Lena Webb Cottrell; first husband, Johnnie "Tim" Lavern Wilkinson on January 23, 1992; six brothers, Vincil Cottrell, Ronald Cottrell, Roy Cottrell, Mitford Cottrell and Burton Cottrell; four sisters, Helen Robinson, Lois Turnbough, Norma Hogan and Wilma Crabtree; and son-in-law, Dale Stulce. She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Lonnie was the business owner of S&J Manufacturing, of Cuba, Missouri which he founded in 1993. He worked hard in building his business and even traveled throughout the world promoting it. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Cuba, Missouri. He was also a former member of the Academy of Country Music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosel and Virginia McMannus; sister-in-law, Erlene Smith; brother-in-law, A.J. Hahn; nephew, Jack Hahn; and Jan Smith, mother of his children. Ruth Mae Stevenson Ruth Mae Stevenson of Viburnum, Missouri was born April 8, 1923 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Noah and Edith Nasalroad and passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at the age of 94 years. She married Henry J. Stevenson on March 14, 1942 in Farmington, Missouri and lived in Fredericktown, Missouri until moving to the Viburnum, Missouri area in 1961. Ruth was a homemaker who liked being with her family. Ruth and Henry liked to have pinochle parties with friends and enjoyed square dancing. Her favorite TV show was "Wheel of Fortune." She also liked the time spent in Mesa, Arizona during the winter months. She was a charter member of the Viburnum United Methodist Church and loved her church family. All who know Ruth will remember her as a sweet, kindhearted woman who truly cared for people. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; teenaged son, Donald; great grandson, David; and brothers and sisters. Wanda married Robert Arnold Thurmond on February 18, 1956 in E. St. Louis, Illinois and to this union five daughters were born. While in St. Louis Wanda volunteered at DePaul Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She has lived in Cuba, Missouri since 2002. She was a member of the Have Bible Will Travel Church in St. Louis, Missouri. She enjoyed working in her garden and was a fan of Elvis Presley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mary LaRose; husband, Robert; brother, Dennis LaRose; and sister, Doris Manning.
