Cora Belle Harman
Cora Belle Harman nee Cook was born January 1, 1898 at Berryman, Missouri
a daughter to the late Alfred Cook and Effie May (Coleman) Cook.
Cora departed this life Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Gibbs Care Center in
Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 106 years, 4 months, and 27 days.
On Wednesday, July 5, 1916, Cora was united in marriage to Lee Roy Harman.
They enjoyed 53 wonderful years of marriage until Lee's passing on January
13, 1969. Four daughters and four sons were born to this union. Their
first home together was in the Center Point Community and later a farm in
the Liberty area. After retirement, they moved to Camdenton but Cora
returned to Steelville after Lee's passing. Cora moved to Gibbs Manor in
1995 and the Gibbs Care Center in 2000.
Cora would often smile when remembering the great times the family had
while camping and fishing. She would also tell of her trip to the 1904
World's Fair, riding an elephant and the merry-go-round while there. Cora
loved to visit with her children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren,
great great grandchildren, and her great great great grandson. When asked
her secret to a long and happy life, Cora would simply laugh and say, "A
lot of hard work and good spring water."
In addition to her dear parents and beloved husband, Cora was preceded in
death by her sons Eldon Harman and Gilbert Harman; daughters Ruby Hinkley
and Ada Hall; sister Nellie Ferguson and brothers John Riley Cook,
Clarence Cook, and Alfred Garrison; son-in-law Roy Lewis Blanton, and
grandson Leonard Roy Blanton.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing and celebrate her living, are
her two daughters, Julia Blanton, and Edna Pratt and husband Kenneth, all
of Steelville, Mo., her sons "Sonny" Roy Harman and wife Helen of
Camdenton, Mo., and John Harman and wife Janette of Bourbon, Mo.; 14
grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 28 great great grandchildren, and
one great great great grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives,
and many dear friends. Cora will always be fondly remembered and deeply
missed by all who knew her.
Cora Belle Harman lay in state 5-8p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004 in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Jeannette Bragg officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in the Liberty Cemetery, rural
Steelville, Mo. Honoring Cora by serving as pallbearers were Bob Harman,
Jim Harman, Alan Harman, Alan Harman II, Mike Davis, and Chad Barton.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
Eva Paula Parker
Eva Paula Parker was born in Erfurt, Germany on March 12, 1924 and passed
away in Cuba, Mo. on June 5, 2004 at the age of 80 years. She was united
in marriage to John P. Parker on August 15, 1942. He preceded her in death
on November 15, 2001.
Eva worked at Brown Shoe in St. Louis and Be Be Originals designing
purses. She also worked on fund-raisers for M.S. designing costumes and
producing/directing talent shows. Eva was also a Den Mother for the Cuba
Scouts.
Eva is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Ryan and husband Terry of
Pacific, Mo., Kathy Frame and husband John of Alton, Illinois and one son,
John T. parker and wife Teresa of St. Louis, Mo. She is also survived by
one sister, Lore Suskind; eight grandchildren and four great
grandchildren. She was a loving mother, sister, relative and friend to all
who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Visitation was Monday, June 7, 2004, 4-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home,
Cuba, Mo. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 8, 2004, 10 a.m. at
Holy Cross Catholic Church, Cuba. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.
All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home.
Rev. Donald G. Reed
Rev. Donald G. Reed, age 74, of Warsaw, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004,
at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born in California,
Missouri, on December 20, 1929, the son of Leslie T. Reed and Edna U.
Woodard Reed.
He graduated from California High School and attended Southwest Baptist
College, Central State University, Missouri University and Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Don started his ministry at the age of 18 and continued to serve until his
death. Some of the churches he served full time included: First Baptist
Church, Slater, Mo.; Riverview Baptist Church, Osage Beach, Mo.; Gill
Memorial Baptist Church, Marshall, Mo.; First Baptist Church, Cuba, Mo.;
First Baptist Church, Crocker, Mo.; Main Street Baptist Church,
California, Mo.; Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Clarksburg, Mo.; Corticelli
Baptist Church, Russelville, Mo.; and Rock Enon Baptist Church, Enon, Mo.
He was an avid fisherman and moved to Warsaw in 1993 to pursue that
interest. He also found time to serve at Pleasant Bethel Baptist Church,
Tebo Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Warsaw during his
retirement years.
During his time pastoring, he also held several positions in the
associations and state conventions including Moderator of Meramec, Miller
County and Saline County associations, Director of Church Training, Miller
County, Vacation Bible School Director, Miller and Saline County, ASSIST
Team Member, Music Director, Camp Director and Manager and Christian Life
Commission Member.
He was united in marriage to DeAubra J. Gilmore on June 3, 1951 in
California, Mo. She preceded him in death. He was then married to Esther
E. Hendley New on November 29, 1964 in Crocker, Mo. She survives of the
home. He is also survived by one daughter Sharon Caldwell, of Enon, Ohio,
two sons Russell New of Cuba, Mo. and Stephen New of Springfield, Mo., six
grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren,
other relatives and many friends. He was also preceded in death by his
parents and one brother Dwayne L. Reed.
Visitation was from 7-8 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004 at the Reser Funeral
Home in Warsaw, Mo. Funeral services for Rev. Don G. Reed were held at 11
a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Warsaw with
Rev. Hugh Smith, officiating. Burial and graveside services were held at
California City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004. Pallbearers
were Russell New, Ralph New, Christopher New, Stephen New, Jerry James and
Randall James.
Ernest Ray (Bo) Weems
Age 77 years and seven months, of East Prairie died Monday, May 31, at
2:30 a.m. at his home.
Born October 16, 1926 in Ridgely, Tennessee to the late James Irl and
Beulah Odell Stinnett Weems, he resided in Mississippi County for the past
32 years. Ernest had worked for Ralston Purina and retired from the
Wilbert Vault Company in St. Louis, after moving to East Prairie he worked
as a farmer and his favorite past time was fishing. He was also a member
of the Full Gospel Church in East Prairie.
On November 23, 1946, he married Mildred Marie Parden, his loving wife of
57 years and six months who survives of the home. Other survivors include
three sons and daughter-in-laws, Eugene (Gene) Weems of East Prairie and
Karen Weems of Cuba, Missouri, Richard and Kelly Weems of Yorktown,
Indiana and Darrell and Katie Weems of Sikeston, Missouri; five daughters
and son-in-laws, Barbara (Kathy) and Daniel Dotson of Cuba, Missouri,
Shelia Sharp and Ron Smeltzer of New Castle, Pennsylvania, Ruth Ann and
Almous Brannum of Muncie, Indiana, Raye Lynn and Jim Poley of Paducah,
Kentucky and Denise and Chuck Little of East Prairie.
Three sisters, Bonnie Carlyle and Faye McGill of East Prairie and Golden
Day of Addison, Alabama; one brother, Bobby Weems of East Prairie; by 16
grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; several brother and sister-in-laws,
nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
In addition to his parents Ernest was also preceded in death by three
brothers, two sisters and one great grandchild.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East
Prairie. Funeral services were conducted Friday June 4 at 2 p.m. at the
Full Gospel Church in East Prairie with Brother Mike Johnson and Brother
Billy Freeman officiating.
Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with Shelby
Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements.
