MO Local Obituaries for the Week updated June 9, 2006 James Alvin Gilliam, Sr. James Alvin Gilliam, Sr. of Cuba, Missouri was born February 7, 1921 in Huzzah, Missouri to the union of James William and Anne Lee Gilliam (nee Grooms) and left from this life on Saturday, June 3, 2006 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 26 days. James was united in marriage to Rose Ann Killeen on May 31, 1947 in Cuba, Missouri and to this union three children were born: James Alvin, Jr., Joan and the late William Joseph. He founded Gilliam Electric Service in 1947 and operated the business until his retirement. His son still operates the business. Jim was a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a well-known musician in the community and enjoyed playing his guitar. He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, William Joseph; two brothers, Albert Henry and Audrey G. Gilliam; three sisters, Anita Blair, Betty Jo Cameron and Rebel Gilliam; three brothers-in-law, Joseph Ackfeld, Carl Blair and Chester Cameron. Those who are left to mourn his passing are his wife, Rose Ann Gilliam; son, James A. (Debbie) Gilliam, Jr.; daughter, Joan (Don) Woltman; brother, Ralph (Rayna) Gilliam; three sisters, Edath Ackfeld, Helen (Lafe) Tieberghien and Madeline (Bill) Henry; sister-in-law, Barbara Gilliam; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation was Monday, June 5, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. David Veit as the Celebrant. Interment was in the Holy Cross Cemetery with full military honors. Robert "Bob" R. Lewis Robert "Bob" R. Lewis, of Hillsboro, Missouri, was born July 19, 1936, in Cuba, Missouri, to Clarence Emmett and Birdie L. (nee Reeves) Lewis, and entered into rest, Wednesday, May 31 2006, at his home, in Hillsboro Missouri, at the age of 69 years, 10 months, and 12 days. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Evelyn Bayless. He is survived by his wife, Catherine F. (nee Daugherty) Lewis, of Hillsboro, Missouri; two children, Jeanie (Bob) Herget, of St. Peters, Missouri and Kelly M. (Bill) Hein, of Irondale, Missouri; three grandchildren, Joey, Connor, and Eamon; four siblings, Jack (Belva) Lewis of Steelville, Missouri, Bill (Irene) Lewis of Cuba, Missouri, Jill (the late John) Anderton of Booneville, Missouri and Dorothy Jarvis of Gainesville, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. Robert retired from Yellow Freight Systems Inc. in 1994 after 40 years of service driving 3 million miles accident free and was a member of Local #600. He enjoyed fishing, bear and deer hunting, and farming. Robert is fondly remembered and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation was held Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill, Missouri. Service was held Monday, June 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary, Cedar Hill, Missouri. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Cedar Hill, Missouri. Andrew W. McCoy Jr. Andrew "Andy" W. McCoy Jr., age 75, of Cherryville, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri. Andy was born Monday, October 13, 1930 in Piedmont, South Carolina, the son of Andrew W. Sr. and Vera Katherine Chandler McCoy. He was united in marriage to Dorothy "Dottie" Burgess on July 7, 1971 in Pond, Missouri. They made their home in St. Louis, Missouri where he worked at McDonald Douglas for 35 years until his retirement in 1993. After retirement they moved to the Cherryville area to make their home. He is survived by his wife Dottie; three stepsons, Randall "Randy" Litton and wife Donna of Providence, Rhode Island, Richard "Ric" Litton and wife Kathleen of Lenexa, Kansas and Robert "Bob" Litton and wife Linda of Eureka, Missouri; stepdaughter, Jan M. Green and husband Michael of Clinton, Iowa. Ten step grandchildren, Zac and wife Lessa, Amy, Casey, Dustin, Julia, Nathan, Kevin, Andrew, Samantha and Tyler; two step great grandchildren, Jordan and Noah; one sister Mildred Powers and husband William of Greenville, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hayward and Joe McCoy and one sister, Bertha Perkins. He was a member of the United Baptist Church of Steelville and a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union in St. Louis, Missouri. He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Funeral services for Andy McCoy were held Saturday, June 3, 2006 in the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Berlie Turnbough and Rob Litton officiating. Special prelude and postlude music of "Great is My Faithfulness," "It Is No Secret What God Can Do" and "I'd Rather Have Jesus" was played by Rosemary Callahan. A duet by niece, Annette Emmons, and great niece, Lauren Kalb, of "In the Garden" was accompanied by Shirley Brown, pianist. A guitar solo of "If We Never Meet Again" was played by Kevin Litton. Serving as casket bearers were Dustin Abnet, Kevin, Nathan and Andrew Litton, Samantha Green, Julia Litton, Amy Singleton, and Tyler Litton. Committal prayers and burial were in the Martin Cemetery in Cherryville, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri. Jack Charles Whaley Jack Charles Whaley of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 5, 1945 in San Francisco, California to Leslie Howard Whaley and Bertha Sophia (Mary) Hedman Whaley. He passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the age of 60 years, 7 months and 25 days. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Later on, his occupation was in the landscaping business. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the round table in the coffee shop. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arleen Jarrell. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted daughter, Krystle M. Whaley of Springfield, Missouri; granddaughter, Jasmine Whaley; friend, Marie Randolph of Cuba, Missouri; nephew, Mark Jerrell of California; cousins and friends. His body was donated to medical science. All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. David Timothy Wilkerson David Timothy Wilkerson, age 49, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born Monday, June 11, 1956 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of the late William "Pop" and Theresa Lorrine Cook Wilkerson. David was married to Robin Messick on June 6, 1994 in Miami, Oklahoma and she survives of the home. He is also survived by two sons, Timothy Paul Wilkerson of San Diego, California and Kevin Joseph Wilkerson of Steelville, Missouri; daughter, Theresa Nicole Wilkerson of Steelville, Missouri; stepson Brandon Millarr and wife Erin of Ft. Hood, Texas. Two brothers, Paul Wilkerson of Steelville, Missouri and Tom Wilkerson and wife Vickie of Lawrence, Kansas; one sister, Frances Ann Felton of Halfway, Missouri; two grandsons, Zachary Millarr and Joshua Howard; mother-in-law Grace Messick of Vinita, Oklahoma. He had made a career in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 22 years of service for his country in January 2001. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and had been a member of the VFW. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 31, 2006 in the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Personal thoughts and memories were given by David's brothers, Paul and Tom. Special music of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" and "Swing Lo Sweet Chariot" was sung by Jerry Beers. Serving as casket bearers were Mike Guess, Ron Matchell, Lydle Davis, Jerry Roland, Mike Livesay and Fran Wynn with committal prayers and burial at the Steelville Cemetery. Military rites were under the direction of the U.S. Navy. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
