Rev. Joseph David Bailey
Rev. Joseph David Bailey of Rolla, Missouri, formerly of Steelville,
Missouri was born November 23, 1930 in Steelville, Missouri to George and
Lydia (Lance) Bailey and passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Helia
Healthcare Center in Rolla, Missouri at that age of 79 years.
On June 30, 1951 in Salem, Arkansas, he was married to Velma Louella Bailey.
Rev. Bailey served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952 during
the Korean War. He preached for many years in the Pentecostal faith serving
as a traveling evangelist in the area and was a member of the Full Gospel
Mission Church in Rolla for over 40 years.
He worked at the Charcoal Plant in Steelville, owned a gas station in Cuba
for a few years, worked at Newton Distribution (Dr. Pepper) in Rolla and
later retired from Con-Agra Dog Food Company in Rolla, Missouri.
He coached his children and grandchildren in baseball, enjoyed playing
baseball and attending many of his grandchildren’s baseball games. In his
spare time, he loved to pitch horseshoes, watch wrestling and worked on
cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lydia Bailey; wife,
Velma; parents-in-law, Corby and Dora Ann Midyett; son-in-law, Larry
Carlton; four brothers, Thomas Bailey, Jim Bailey, George Bailey and Bill
Bailey and two sisters, Elizabeth Shebaum and Euna Futo.
He is survived by eight children, Evelyn Carlton of Edgar Springs,
Missouri, Betty Bailey of Lexington, Minnesota, Joe Bailey Jr. of Cuba,
Missouri, Ruth Skaggs and husband Bill of Rolla, Missouri, Erma Gayle
Robinson of Lexington, Minnesota, Larry Bailey and wife Sue of St. James,
Missouri, Kathleen Gruver and husband Leon of Cuba, Missouri and Kurt
Bailey Sr. of Millen, Georgia; 16 grandchildren, Billy Skaggs and wife
Danielle, Robert Skaggs and wife Amanda, Amy Skaggs, Jason Skaggs, Brad
Gruver and wife Destiny, Ashley Bailey, Rachel Gruver, Clarissa Gruver,
Joshua Robinson, Rebecca Robinson, Brandon Robinson and Kurt Kenneth
Bailey, Jr., William Haugen, Christina Moc and husband Jeremy, Justin Roark
and wife Melanie, Phillip Roark and wife Angie; 15 great grandchildren,

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, May 31, 2010 at the Britton-Bennett
Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Britton-
Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Don Mitchell
officiating and Bro. Dooley Garrison sharing memories with prayer. The
eulogy was read by grandson, Jason Skaggs.
Special music of “Higher Ground” was sang by granddaughter, Ashley Bailey
accompanied on piano by Vicky Limberg. Other special music of “I Miss You”
was sung by great granddaughter Sidnee Skaggs and “Amazing Grace” was sung
by Christina Zakes.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery in
Viburnum, Missouri. Military honors were given by the U.S. Army.
Casket bearers were Robert Skaggs, Jesse Skaggs, Chris Dildine, Billy
Skaggs, Kevin Skaggs and Brad Gruver. Honorary casket bearers were Jason
Skaggs, Stephen Skaggs, Derek Skaggs and Tim Gresham.

Glenn McKendree Baker
Glen McKendree Baker, of rural Dixon, was born on September 13, 1924, in
Crawford County, Missouri, to Andrew and Maude (Frank) Baker and passed
away Saturday, May 29, 2010, in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the age of
85 years, 8 months and 16 days.
Glenn was united in marriage on April 4, 1945, at Cuba to Charlotte Marie
Reid and to this union six children were born.
Glenn was baptized into the Catholic faith on May 13, 1944 by Rev. Eugene
T. Nicolas at Ford Island, Hawaii and was a member of the Visitation
Catholic Church, Vienna, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy and
Air Force. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans,
Waynesville, Missouri, the Argyle Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Post No. 8045,
Argyle and the American Legion Post 0354, Brinktown, Missouri. He had served
as Post Commander for both the VFW and American Legion and on the Maries-
Osage Ambulance Board, Vienna, Missouri. He worked at the Water Treatment
Plant retiring in June of 1988. He loved to hunt, fish and being on his farm
near the Hayden Community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Maude Baker; one
daughter, Janette Marie Vrana; three grandchildren, K.S. “Elliot” Kehoe,
Patrick “P.J.” Savage and Jesse Baker; one great grandson, Kevin Wilson; two
brothers, Rola R. Baker and infant, James Baker and one sister Ona Fern
Nininger.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of the home; two sons, Glen Mark Baker
of Frankston, Australia; Jeffrey Lance Baker of the home in Dixon, Missouri;
three daughters and four sons-in-law, Mary Louise and Dr. Patrick Savage
of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Karen Rene and Dr. Jesus Vallejo of Houston, Texas,
Charlotte Anne and Louis Weinert of Montara, California and Anthony Vrana of
Dixon, Missouri; one brother, Thomas Baker of Taylor Arizona; four sisters,
Faye Burnett of St. Louis, Missouri, Martha Jean Phipps of Kansas City,
Missouri, Mary Beebe, Parson of Kansas and Brenda Cochran of Elijay, Georgia;
seven grandchildren, Aaron Wilson, Alycia Alvarez, Caitlin Gezgin, Cristian
and Eric Vallejo and Ethan and Ona Weinert; four great-grandchildren, Andrew
and Gabriela Alvarez and Alex and Zane Wilson; other relatives and friends.
A Prayer Service was held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in the
Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Msgr. Marion
Makarewicz leading.
The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m., on Thursday,
June 3, 2010, in the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, with Msgr. Marion
Makarewicz officiating.
Lector for the Mass was Karen Rene Vallejo and Eucharistic Minister was
Anthony Vrana. During the Offertory Procession, the Gifts were borne to the
altar by Dr. Jesus Vallejo, his sons Cristian and Eric Vallejo, and Ethan
and Ona Weinert. The Visitation Church Choir sang appropriate Catholic hymns
for the Mass and was accompanied by organist, Gloria Brunneret.
Interment was held at 2 p.m., Thursday afternoon, June 3, 2010, in the Holy
Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of
the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Military Honor Guard, gun salute
and playing of “Taps”.
Pallbearers were Anthony Vrana, Louis Weinert, Dr. Jesus Vallejo, Bobby
Nienhaus, and Cristian and Eric Vallejo.

Patsy A. Carpenter
Patsy A. Carpenter nee Hardin of Cuba, Missouri was born in Sikeston,
Missouri on January 25, 1937 to Lee Wesley Hardin and Julia Ann Hensley
Hardin and passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the age of 73 years.
She married Christopher C. Carpenter in St. Clair, Missouri on
June 7, 1980.
She retired after working the assembly line from the Chrysler plant, Fenton,
Missouri and was a member of the UAW. She was a member of the Covenant
Praise Church of God, Cuba, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Julia Hardin; husband,
Chris; sister, Ruth Clark; brothers, Dennis Hardin and Thelmar Hardin.
She is survived by her children, Kevin Pigg and Demetra (Norman) Weigel, all
of Cuba, Missouri and Jackie Ann (Bob) Zagar of Sunset Hills, Missouri;
stepchildren, James (Ann) Carpenter of Florissant, Missouri and Sharon
(Terry) Bereuter of Maryland Heights, Missouri; brother, Sonny Hardin of
Macy, Indiana; sisters, Geneva (Billy) Smith of Herculaneum, Missouri,
Opal Harrison of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Betty Hardin of Fenton,
Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was Friday, June 4, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. and Funeral service
Saturday, June 5, 2010 at noon at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri
with Pastor Mark Smith officiating.
Burial was at the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Phillip David Dimicelli
Phillip David Dimicelli of Cuba, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri
on April 5, 1944 to David Emanuel Dimicelli and Mildred (Nations) Dimicelli
and passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010 at the age of 66 years.
He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era
and was a medic in England. He retired from the GM plant in St. Louis,
Missouri as a parts salesman and a member of the UAW.
He married June Douglas in St. Charles, Missouri on December 17, 1993.
He was an avid Cardinal baseball collector and fan. He enjoyed bowling,
watching hockey, football, and Mizzou basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mildred Dimicelli.
He is survived by his wife June of Cuba, Missouri; son Randy (Caroline)
Dimicelli; stepchildren John (Sherry) Staples of St. James, Missouri, Jeff
(Gale) Staples of Cuba, Missouri, Jerry Staples of Rolla, Missouri, Rick
(Dana) Pilkenton of Cuba, Missouri and Amy Dickhoener of Steelville,
Missouri; brother Robert (Shirley) Dimicelli of O’Fallon, Missouri;
14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A Memorial service was held Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the
Douglas home in St. James, Missouri.

Mary L. Fitzgerald
Mary L. (nee Smith) Fitzgerald of Fenton, Missouri, was born February 6, 1931
in Sligo, Missouri to Herbert R. and Wilma L. (nee Wagoner) Smith and passed
away Friday, April 30, 2010 at Delmar Gardens of Meramec Valley, Fenton,
Missouri at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 24 days.
Mary was a member of Fenton United Methodist Church, High Ridge Genealogical
Society, Friends of the Library, Missouri Historical Society and Red Hats.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening, traveling, scrapbooking, collecting angels
and figurines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Wilma Smith and one
sister, Wilma Botkin.
She is survived by her husband, Tony Fitzgerald of Fenton, Missouri; two
children, Tami Diane (Thomas Jr.) Warren of Lonedell, Missouri and Donna
Lou Insco of Richwoods, Missouri; two grandchildren, Joshua and Tanner; two
siblings, John Edward (Shirley) Smith of Bonne Terre, Missouri and Jimmie
Lee (Norma) Smith of Salem, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at the Chapel Hill
Mortuary, Cedar Hill, Missouri.
Service was Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Fenton United
Methodist Church, Fenton, Missouri.
Interment was in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Cedar Hill, Missouri.

Charles J. Gallagher
Charles J. Gallagher of Cuba, Missouri was born on April 24, 1925 in
St. Louis, Missouri to Charles Emil Gallagher and Marie Matthews Gallagher
and passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the age of 85 years.
Charles served his country honorably in the United States Coast Guard as a
Fireman 1st Class.
He married Beatrice Herman on July 26, 1945 and to this union four children
were born.
He worked originally as a Roundhouse Foreman for the Wabash Railroad then
later for Norfolk and Western Railroad. He was a handyman and could repair
nearly anything. He even built his own home. He was an avid poker player and
moved to the country for the serenity and slower pace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Gallagher and a
brother Robert Gallagher.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; children, Jeanette Wertzberger of
St. Charles, Missouri, Charles Robert (Maureen) Gallagher of Troy, Missouri,
Joan Gallagher of St. Charles, Missouri and Kenneth Gallagher of Warrenton,
Missouri; sister, Laverne (Roy) Hults of Bland, Missouri; sister-in-law,
Dolores Unland of St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Laura, Joe,
Kristi, Maureen, Amy, Katie and Angie; six great grandchildren, Grant,
Joshua, Lucas, Nolan, Joseph V and Karlie; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 3-4 p.m. and Memorial Service at
4 p.m. with Rev. Pat Panepinto officiating at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri with full military honors.

Hartmut O. Groenda
Hartmut O. Groenda of Jefferson City, Missouri, was born on
September 14, 1924 in Des Peres, Missouri to Emil and Marie Henkle Groenda
and passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Adams Street Place, at the age of
85 years.
He was united in marriage on September 17, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri to
Joan Murphy.
He was a graduate of Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Missouri. He served
in the Army Air Force during World War II, where he served as a radio gunner
on B17’s in the China-Burma-India Theater. He worked for Meramec Junior
College and Missouri Baptist Hospital.
Hartmut enjoyed remodeling houses, traveling, taking his dogs for walks and
especially spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Inge Bopp of Kirkwood, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of the home; four children, Kurt Groenda
(Janet) of Palmyra, Missouri, Gretchen (Allen) Walz of Jefferson City,
Missouri, Kristina “Birdy” (Dan) Duvall of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Ann
(Jeff) Zoellner of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister, Evelyn Reddington
of the state of Arizona; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other
relatives and friends.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Houser-Millard
Funeral Home, Jefferson City, Missouri, with Rev. Murl Nash officiating.
Interment was in the Hamilton Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.

of Jefferson City, Missouri.
Ada M. Halbert
Ada M. Halbert nee Richardson of Steelville, Missouri was born in
“String Town” near Cherryvalley, Missouri on Thursday, September 5, 1912
to Fred Melvin Richardson and Margarette (Halbert) Richardson and passed
away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 27 days.
She married Earl J. Halbert on September 9, 1931 at the courthouse in
Steelville, Missouri.
Ada was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She liked gardening,
canning and being outdoors. She loved taking care of her family and cooking
for them. She was an excellent seamstress and even made prom dresses, a
bridal gown and bridesmaid’s dresses. She taught herself to upholster
furniture, to prove that she could do it. Ada was a member of the
Steelville Assembly of God Church, a charter member of the Ozark
Trailblazers, and a lifelong resident of Crawford County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Margarette Richardson;
husband, Earl; son, Gene Halbert; brothers, Hershel Richardson, Haskell
“Sonny” Richardson and infant brother Howard Richardson; sisters. Agnes
Hunt, Ina Barber, and Fay Ray Richardson; sisters-in-law. Hazel Richardson
Harman, Laverna Halbert, Ina Halbert, and Helen Hinch; brothers-in-law,
Frankie Halbert, Carl Halbert, B. L. “Doc” Halbert, Edward “T” Halbert,
Clyde Hinch and Ken Payne; granddaughter-in-law, Nancy Halbert; and
grandson-in-law, John Weber.
She is survived by her children, Russell (Judy) Halbert of Steelville,
Missouri and Joyce (Jim) Cottrell of Cherryville, Missouri; daughter-in-law,
Maxine Halbert (Vernon) Barber; sister-in-law, Dixie Lee Payne, all of
Steelville, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, and 14 great
great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri and Funeral Service at 10 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2010
at Steelville Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.

Junita Audrey Hopkins
Junita Audrey Hopkins of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Henry
Charles and Iona (Marotte) Pope on November 11, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri
and left from this life on Sunday, May 30, 2010 in her home at the age of
85.
Junita retired from DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri after many years
of service as a Medical Secretary. She was a member of Cuba Church of Christ
and enjoyed reading, crocheting, painting, crafts, playing pinochle, talking
with friends and studying her Bible.
Junita is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Charles and Iona (Marotte)
Pope; one sister, Vivian Williams; one brother, William C. Pope and other
relatives and friends.
Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her
son, Craig and wife Theresa Hopkins of Cuba, Missouri; three granddaughters,
Michelle and husband Daniel Pinnell of Cuba, Missouri, Melissa Hopkins of
Cuba, Missouri, Nicole and husband Aaron Harrison of Defuniak Springs,
Florida; one great granddaughter Olivia Pinnell; one sister Elizabeth
“Betty” Pope of St. Louis, Missouri; special friends, Ovia Marie and husband
Leroy McGinnis, Renee and husband David Bowen both of Cuba, Missouri and

A memorial service to celebrate her life was held on Friday, June 4, 2010
at 1 p.m. at Cuba Church of Christ in Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Steven
Wick, officiating.

Jerry Gene Judd
Jerry Gene Judd of Cuba, Missouri was born on Sunday, June 10, 1945 in
Valley Park, Missouri to Lee Roy Berwanger and Sylvia Gladys Holtz Berwanger
and passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the age of 64 years, 11 months
and 19 days.
Jerry served his country honorably in the United States Army.
He married Lois Jean Gahr on August 30, 1972 in Steelville, Missouri.
Jerry was a carpenter and enjoyed building. His hobbies were woodworking,
riding motorcycles, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Sylvia Berwanger; wife,
Lois; brothers, James E. Judd and Phillip M. Judd; sisters, Betty J. Reddick,
Judith M. Miller and Cindy Taylor.
He is survived by his children, Rocky Dotson, Nikki Dotson (Georgina
Alexander), and Scottie Dotson, all of Cuba, Missouri; sister,
Phyllis E. Tinker of Cuba, Missouri; brother-in-law, Jim Reddick of
St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Charlie Kitson, Zachary Fulliam,
Alysia Dotson, Scottie Dotson, Jr. and Jamien Dotson; great grandchild,
Ashlyn Hodges; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. and funeral service was
10 a.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri
with Rev. Jimmy Harrison officiating.
Burial was at the Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri.

Walter Arthur Kean
Walter Arthur Kean was born on February 27, 1935 in Safe, Missouri to Lee
Gilbert and Virginia Margaret (Holman) Kean and passed away at his home on
Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in rural St. James, Missouri at the age of 75 years,
3 months and 6 days of age.
On May 13, 1961, in Rosati, Missouri, Walter Kean was united in marriage to
Evelyn Mathena and to this union one child was born.
Walter worked in Security with the Law Enforcement for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Mathena) Kean; parents, Lee and
Virginia Kean.
He is survived by one son, Scott Kean and wife Amber of St. James, Missouri;
one brother, Gilbert Lee Kean and wife Imogene of Leasburg, Missouri; two
grandchildren, Kortney and Eddie; two great grandchildren, Evee and
Christopher.
Visitation was on Saturday, June 5, 2010 starting at 10 a.m. till time of
service at 11 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri.
Memorial Services were conducted on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at
the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri with Leroy Bryant
officiating, with full military honors after the service.

Vivian Ilene Pasternacki
Vivian Ilene Pasternacki (nee Vance) of Steelville, Missouri was born
Wednesday, February 10, 1932 at Steelville, Missouri to Jewell and Iona
(nee Starks) Vance and passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at St. Louis,
Missouri at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 20 days.
Ilene worked in sales, was a seamstress and then became a truck driver before
becoming the owner/operator of her own restaurant. She was a member of the
Coffee Community Church of Steelville. In her spare time she played the
organ, the accordion and pinochle. She raised a beautiful vegetable garden
and always enjoyed fishing. She was known as always being kind hearted and
was willing to help anyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewell and Iona Vance; one
daughter, Terry Lynn Hassler; other relatives and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Pasternacki of the home; two daughters,
Shirley Brooks and partner Diane of Roscoe, Illinois, Pat and husband Jim
Gilley of McHenry, Illinois; one son, Randy Ransom of Steelville, Missouri;
brothers, Ray and wife Joyce Vance of Steelville, Missouri, Edgar Vance of
Tennessee, Melvin Vance of Poplar Grove, Illinois; 15 grandchildren, 34 great
grandchildren, special friends Judy and Ed Behr and Donna and Tom Lott; other
relatives and friends.
Memorial visitation was held Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. at the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Britton
Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating. Special
music was “Amazing Grace,” “Beulah Land” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
