Melba Mae Neff
Melba Mae Neff of Bourbon passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at the age
of 80 years.
Mrs. Neff was born on January 28, 1920 in Hawkeye, Kansas to the late
Clement Hoarce and Una Iona (Clawson) Range. At an early age Melba and her
family moved to Katy, Texas where she was raised. On May 28, 1941 she was
joined in marriage to Zelmer Neff at Potosi, Mo., and to this union three
children were born. In the late 1950s Melba and her family moved to the
Bourbon area. In addition to serving as a homemaker, she helped support her
family by working at area factories. After approximately ten years at
Paramount Headwear of Bourbon, she retired. She enjoyed arts, crafts, and
crossword puzzle, but took special pleasure in all of her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Those who knew her best describe Melba as a very
loving, caring woman who was good to everyone.
She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Neff of Bourbon and Larry Neff of
Sullivan; one daughter, Jackie Funkhouser and husband, Gary of Bourbon; one
brother, Elmer Range and wife, Velma of Walnut Shade, Mo.; one sister,
Estella Tucker of Bunker, Mo.; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen
great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two
brothers, Maurice and Riley Range, and one sister, Lila Boyster.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2000
from the chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Alva
Enloe officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery.
Bertha Isgrig
Bertha Isgrig of Bourbon passed away on Monday, June 5, 2000 at the age of
90 years.
Mrs. Isgrig was born on February 26, 1910 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to the
late Dock and Elsie (McGowan) Lieuallen. At a young age, Bertha and her
family moved to Hollister, Mo. where she was raised. On November 15, 1941
she was married to Glen Isgrig in Harrison, Arkansas, and to this union one
son was born. The newlyweds then moved to Bourbon, Mo. where Bertha has
lived the remaining years of her life. Her primary vocation has been that
of a devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker. She especially enjoyed
taking care of her home, and also found fulfillment as a very active member
of the Sullivan Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for over forty years.
Those who knew her best describe Bertha as a quiet, gentle woman who
treated others with much kindness and consideration.
She is survived by one son, Stanley Isgrig, and his fiancee, Debra Parnell,
of Bourbon; four sisters, Virginia Petett of Kansas City, Mo., Cledia
Mattox of Sullivan, Vera Ramsey of Batesville, Mississippi, and Louise
Anderson of Ozark, Mo.; five step-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews,
other relatives, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents,
Bertha was preceded in death by one brother, Glen Lieuallen, and one
sister, Letha Chrestman.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2000
from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Mr. Gerald Goff
officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. If desired, donations may
be made to the Sullivan Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in memory of
Mrs. Bertha Isgrig.
James G. Hoss
James G. "Jim" Hoss of Cuba, Mo. was born on November 21, 1939 at Bourbon,
Mo. to the union of James Z. Hoss and Hazel Hoss nee Cresswell and passed
away on Sunday, June 4, 2000 at the St. John's Mercy Hospital, Washington,
Mo., at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 13 days.
On April 21, 1967 Jim was united in marriage to Patricia "Patty" Evans in
South Carolina. They have been happily married for 33 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on June
30, 1964.
He retired as an air traffic controller. Jim has been a long time resident
of Crawford County. He was a past member of the Elks Club and the Lions
Club, a member of the Cuba First Baptist Church, past city alderman and
worked for Farm Bureau after retiring as an air traffic controller.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife
Patty Hoss; daughters Gina and Lisa; two grandsons Brandon and Paden Davis;
stepsons Mark Brown and wife Sue, Rodney Brown and wife Melody; 3
step-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Jim was a devoted husband, good friend to all who knew him and will be
sadly missed.
James G. "Jim" Hoss was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at 11:00 a.m.
with Rev. Woodrow Martin and Chaplain Paul Johnson officiating. Interment
was in the Meramec Hills Cemetery. All arrangements were under the
direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Shirley Faye Monroe
Shirley Faye Monroe (nee Santhuff) was born Wednesday, November 11, 1936,
at Ellington, Mo., a daughter of Mary Matilda Santhuff (nee Goodson) and
the late Jesse Lyman (Till) Santhuff.
She entered eternal rest Sunday, June 4, 2000, in the Missouri Baptist
Medical Center, St. Louis, Mo., at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 23
days.
On March 10, 1956, in North St. Louis, Shirley was united in marriage to
Lyman Robert Monroe. They were blessed with one son, Kirk, and one
daughter, Rhonda. They enjoyed over thirty-one years together, before his
death May 27, 1987.
September 14, 1974 Shirley was baptized as a member of First Baptist Church
of Maryville, Illinois. She later became a member of Center Point Baptist
Church, Steelville, Mo.
In addition to her father and her husband she was preceded in death by
brothers-in-law, Elmer Monroe, and Donald Werth.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her mother Mary Lacy of
Steelville, Mo.; one son, Kirk Monroe and wife Tammy of St. Clair, Mo.; one
daughter, Rhonda and husband Steve Weeks of St. Louis, Mo.; four
grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters, Bob Santhuff and wife
Lelah of Steelville, Mo., Bill Santhuff and wife Pat of Piedmont, Mo.,
Dolores and husband Don Goad of Cedar Hill, Mo., Loretta Anderson of Rolla,
Mo., Joyce and husband Ron Bouse of Steelville, Mo., and Ron Santhuff of
Benton, Texas; three half-brothers and two half-sisters, Barbara and
husband Mark Kosa of St. Louis, Mo.; David Santhuff and wife Helen of
Ellsinore, Mo., Shelba Santhuff of Littleston, Pennsylvania, George
Santhuff of Rogers, Arkansas and Doris and husband Wayne Costlow of
Germany; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lyle and Shirley Monroe of
Jerseyville, Illinois, Geneva (Sis) Werth of Columbia, Illinois, Frank
(Butch) and Katie Monroe of Longwood, Florida; aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and many
friends.
Shirley Faye Monroe lay in state after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in the
Britton Chapel with Rev. Roger Silvey and Rev. Lonnie Webb officiating.
Musical selections were provided by vocalists Brook Bouse, Rick Bouse, Don
Santhuff, and Joyce Bouse who also provided piano accompaniment.
Committal prayers and interment were in Jefferson Barracks National
Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Brock Bouse, Rick
Bouse, Don Buchanan, Bruce Goad, Jeff Johnson, Don Santhuff and Steven
Weeks.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
