Dr. Albert R. Baumann
Dr. Albert R. Baumann, of Steelville, Missouri died suddenly Wednesday,
June 10, 2008. He was a retired medical doctor who served the Steelville and
Crawford County area for most of the past 52 years.
Dr. Baumann was born in Fairfax Minnesota on January 17, 1927 to Dr. Albert W.
Baumann and Ann R. (Janda) Baumann.
Dr. Baumann enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during
WWII until his discharge in November 1945. He received his BS and Masters
degree from the University of Minnesota in 1949 and his Medical Degree from
Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1953. During this time he met Mary
Ann Lathrop and they were wed in her home own of Miles City, Montana on
June 17, 1952.
After he completed in his residency work in Knoxville, Tennessee and Santa
Cruz, California, he moved to Pacific, Missouri where he joined a local
practice. In December 1955 he founded his own practice in Steelville, Missouri
where he practiced until his retirement in October 1997.
Dr. Baumann enjoyed his family, gardening, hunting, fishing, fast cars and
relaxing at his farm near Cuba, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, Herb Lathrop and
one sister-in-law, Gaines (Lathrop) Brath.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, of the home in Steelville, Missouri;
nine children, Raymond John Baumann and wife Christine of Ellisville,
Missouri; Mary Ann “Honey” Swiney, Herbert Joseph Baumann and wife Nancy,
Albert Raymond JR. and wife Laurie and Michael William Baumann, all of
Ballwin, Missouri, Theresa Marie Ives and husband Steve of Cuba, Missouri,
David Anthony Baumann and wife Dotty of Manchester, Missouri, Patrick Joseph
Baumann and wife Angela of Eureka, Missouri and Susan Marie Clonts and
husband Michael of Stanton, Missouri; two sisters, Rita Dummer and husband
Thomas of Bloomington, Minnesota and Bonnie Stadther and husband Bart of
Fairmont, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Terri Lathrop of S. Milwaukee,
Wisconsin; 29 grandchildren, one great grandchild; other relatives and
friends.
Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at St. Michael’s
Catholic Church in Steelville, Missouri with Father James Finder officiating
with Eric Olson, Deacon.
Special music of “Be Not Afraid,” “Holy Mary, Gentle Woman” and “Ave Maria”
were played and sung by granddaughters Stephanie and Bridget Clonts. Serving
at the altar were grandsons, Joshua and Gabriel Clonts. Scripture readers
were Michael Clonts and Dotty Baumann.
Honoring their father as casket bearers were Ray, Herb, JR, Mike, David and
Patrick Baumann.
Committal prayer was given by Father Finder with Military honors by the U.S.
Navy and VFW #5608 of St. James, Missouri.
Interment was in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.
Standing guard during the visitation was American Legion Post #345 of
Steelville, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home
of Steelville, Missouri.
Daphna Elizabeth Ramori
Daphna Elizabeth (Luck) Ramori was born Monday, August 16, 1920 in Steelville,
Missouri to Thomas Edward Luck and Ora Mattie Halbert Luck and passed away
Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 26 days.
Daphna married Domenic Joseph Ramori on February 20, 1941 in St. James,
Missouri and to this union two children were born.
She worked a number of years at Brauer Brothers Shoe Factory in Cuba,
Missouri before retiring. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic
Church in Cuba, Missouri.
Her hobbies were cooking, playing cards, and dancing. She always attended
her kids’ activities. She most loved her family and playing with her
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to visit with folks and
was very faithful in visiting the sick. Daphna had a way of connecting with
people both old and young.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Thomas,
Johnny, and Clyde Luck; one sister, Hazel Harman; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Bertha Luck, Nellie Piazza, Inez and Jewell Paulsell, Katie
and George Piazza, Julia Ederati Paule, Ernestine Steffens Bond, Hector P.
Ramori, Art Paule, Sam Ederati, Jack Stevens, George Stark, Henry Steffens,
Bill Bond, Estel Woods, Hershell Richardson, Rainey Gregory, Sam Harman and
Elmer Beaudoine.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis Ramori of Cuba, Missouri and
Hector G. (Billie) Ramori of Cuba, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jeff (Mara)
Ramori of Steelville, Missouri and Jimmy Ramori of Cuba, Missouri; three
great grandchildren, Nicholas, Kristen, and Dalton Ramori; three sisters,
Pearl “Jack” Woods of Steelville, Missouri, Mary “Short” Gregory of
St. Louis, Missouri and Ada (John) Schwent of Cuba, Missouri; sisters-in-law,
Pat Luck of Rolla, Missouri, Jewell Luck of Steelville, Missouri, Lillian
Ramori of Cuba, Missouri and Louise Stevens Stark of West Palm Beach, Florida;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Friday, June 13, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home
in Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral Mass was noon at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba, Missouri
with Father James Finder officiating.
Burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba,
Missouri.
Chester M. Skaggs
Chester Milford Skaggs of Bourbon, Missouri was born to the union of
Winfield C. and Mary Catherine (Haggard) Skaggs on July 23, 1914 in Bonne
Terre, Missouri and passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in Steelville,
Missouri at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 17 days.
He was united in marriage to Edith Pratt on June 25, 1938 in Farmington,
Missouri and to this union one son was born. Together they shared 69 years
of marriage.
Chester retired from the I.B.E.W. Local No. 257 in Jefferson City, Missouri
after many years of service. He was a 58 year faithful and dedicated member
of the First Assembly of God Church of Bourbon, Missouri and served as past
secretary of the church. He was a member of the Crawford County American
Legion Post #81. He served as treasurer for the Crawford County Senior Tax
Board and he did a lot of community service work including the Bourbon Senior
Center where he delivered meals to seniors in their homes for a number of
years.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, coin and stamp collecting,
but most of all what he enjoyed was spending time with his family and being
active at his church.
Chester proudly served his Country in U.S. Coast Guard during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Skaggs; two
sisters, Goldie and Laura and other relatives.
He is survived by his wife; one son Danny and wife Sheree Skaggs of Bourbon,
Missouri; special daughter, Ruth Ann and husband Herman Hoerath of Bourbon,
Missouri; one sister, Hazel Richards of Hillsboro, Missouri; four grand-
children, Tracie Ware of Bourbon, Missouri, Stacie Williams of Texas,
Meghenn and Mitchell Bax of St. Peters, Missouri; eight great grandchildren;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Friday, June 13, 2008 from 5-9 p.m. at First Assembly of
God Church, Bourbon, Missouri with an American Legion Service at 7 p.m.
Funeral was Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God
Church, Bourbon with Pastor James Austin, officiating.
Interment in the Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri with full military
honors.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Audra Maye Stotler
Audra Maye Stotler of Steelville, Missouri was born August 5, 1920 in
Manila, Arkansas to Clarence and Beulah Bell (Wilson) Dowdy. She passed
away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville and the age
of 87 years.
On November 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Louie Bernard Stotler
who preceded her in death on February 4, 2004.
Audra had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Steelville for many
years. She was also a member of the Steelville Extension Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Stotler and her
husband.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Sharon Bilbrey and husband Howard of
Florissant, Missouri; one sister, Katherine Rawls of Jonesboro, Arkansas;
two grandchildren; Matthew Stotler and wife Laura of Hazelwood, Missouri and
Heather Scharer and husband Tom of Bridgeton, Missouri; three great
grandchildren, Nora, Devin and Jacob; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Danny O’Guinn
officiating. Special organ music of “It Is Well with My Soul” and “Amazing
Grace” was played by Wanda Ransom.
Casket bearers were Tom Scharer, Matthew Stotler, Howard Bilbrey, John Dowdy,
James Dowdy and Dennis Dowdy.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Steelville Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in
Steelville, Missouri.
Sylvia Jean Stroup
Sylvia Jean Stroup of Steelville, Missouri was born August 17, 1952 in
Steelville, Missouri to Landis and Alva (Conaway) Callahan. She passed away
Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at her home at the age of 55 years.
On March 17, 1978 she was united in marriage to Raymond Stroup. Sylvia and
Raymond’s love for one another was very special and he devoted his life to
her.
Sylvia was a long-time member of the Center Ridge Pentecostal Church.
She loved singing and listening to gospel music, but most of all loving her
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant sister, Fern Ellen
Callahan; two brothers-in-law, Don Nickelson and Lindell Thompson.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years; one son, Jeffery Thompson and
wife Amber of Sperry, Oklahoma; one daughter, Crystal Britton and husband
Garnett of Cuba, Missouri; two brothers, Sam Callahan and wife Lilli of Cuba,
Missouri and Steve Callahan and companion Tammra Durbin of Viburnum,
Missouri; six sisters, Anita Nickelson, Sharon Thompson, Sondra Veach and
husband Johnny and Shelia Simpson and husband Dennis, all of Steelville,
Missouri, Cathy Brown and husband Dwayne of Cherryville, Missouri and Pat
Reed of Pacific, Missouri; five grandchildren, Alissa Thompson, Macy Thompson,
Hailee Britton, Hannah Britton and Walker Britton, the only grandson, who she
called “her little man.”
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Center Ridge Pentecostal Church
at Davisville, Missouri with Pastor Harrison Brown and Rev. Bob Coleman
officiating.
Special music of “March around the Throne for Me” was sung by Kevin Brown.
Other special music of “Everybody Will Be Happy over There,” “I’ll Meet You
on the Other Side of Jordan” and “I Won’t Have to Cross Jordan Alone” were
sung by Bob and Carol Coleman. A poem written by Margaret Louise Brown was
read.
Casket bearers were Ben Callahan, Justin Callahan, Dwight Brown, Brad Thompson,
Jodie Brown and Michael Garms. Honorary casket bearers were Sam and Steve
Callahan.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Martin Cemetery at Cherryville,
Missouri. Closing music of “I Hope We Walk the Last Mile Together” was sung.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
