MO Local Obituaries for the Week of June 19, 2002 Henry Leslie Hopwood, Sr. Henry Leslie Hopwood, Sr. of Cuba, Mo. was born on March 7, 1911 in Crawford County, Mo., to the union of Frank Hopwood and Bertha (Enke) Hopwood and passed away on June 12, 2002 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 5 days. On June 3, 1934 Henry was united in marriage to Martha Ware. One son, Henry, Jr. was born to this union. Martha preceded Henry in death on December 20, 1975. Henry was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Anna McGruder, Martha Chapman and Aurretta Hopwood, five brothers Lawrence, Raymond, Arthur, Herbert, and Charlie Hopwood. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving son, Henry L. Hopwood, Jr. and wife Judy; one brother William Hopwood and wife Dorothy; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Henry was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Henry Leslie Hopwood, Sr. of Cuba, Mo. was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Leroy Nixon officiating. Interment was in the Delhi Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Helene Juanita Long Helene Juanita Long nee Pyatt was born Saturday, July 20, 1940 in Goodwater, Mo. to the late Clyde Pyatt and Blanche Carl Pyatt and departed this life on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at her home in Davisville, Mo. at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 22 days. Helene married William Paul Long on December 31, 1960 in Davisville, Mo. at the Davisville Assembly of God Church, and to this union two children were born. Helene and Bill lived most of their 41 years together in the Davisville area except for the ten years they lived in St. Louis, Mo. Helene accepted the Lord as her personal Savior many years ago and she and Bill attended the Davisville Assembly of God Church in Davisville, Mo. until her health failed. Helene enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling, especially their trips to Branson, Mo. and most of all she loved and enjoyed her family. Helene was preceded in death by her father Clyde Pyatt, her son Paul Long, and her brother Mike Pyatt. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving and devoted husband Bill of the home, her son Scott and wife Lorie of Bismarck, Mo.; her daughter-in-law Brenda Long of Cherryville, Mo.; three grandchildren Cody Long of Cherryville, Mo.; Allison and Natalie Long of Bismarck, Mo.; her mother Blanche Pyatt of Davisville, Mo. Three brothers Clyde Pyatt, Jr. and wife Sharon, John Pyatt and wife Linda, Ronald Pyatt and wife Betty, all of Davisville, Mo.; three sisters June Swyers and husband Harold of St. Charles, Mo., Virginia Towner and husband Cliff of Sharon, Maine; and Linda and husband Harold Green of Cherryville, Mo. Her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Richard and Norma Long of Steelville, Mo.; Jack and Ella Randall of Boston, Georgia; and Delores and Dave Frederich of Granite City, Illinois; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends, all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Helene Juanita Long. Visitation was held from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo., Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Johnny Setzer sang Amazing Grace, and How Great Thou Art. Pallbearers were Brian Green, Kevin Green, Ronnie Pyatt, Steven Pyatt, Jeff Pyatt, and Richie Long. Burial was in the Davisville Cemetery, Davisville, Mo. All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Robert Atherton McGlashon Robert "Bob" Atherton McGlashon of Cuba, Mo. was born on January 22, 1908 at Bonne Terre, Mo. to the union of Donald Stuart McGlashon and Daisy Gertrude (Walker) McGlashon and passed away on June 12, 2002 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 20 days. On September 6, 1930 Bob was united in marriage to Alice Ruth James at Columbia, Mo. Two sons, Richard and James, were born to this union. They were happily married until Alice preceded him in death on January 19, 1985. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, James Robert McGlashon and one brother, Donald Walker McGlashon. He was a lifetime member of the Odd Fellows of Paris, Mo. and had retired from McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Manufacturing as Manager of their Education Department. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving son Richard McGlashon and wife Janice; two sisters Edith Yardley Craig and Jean Downer Robertson; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Bob was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Robert "Bob" McGlashon was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. on Thursday, June 13, 2002 after 5 p.m. Visitation was held on Friday, June 14, 2002 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Agnew Funeral Home, Paris, Mo. Graveside services were held on Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Paris, Mo. at 2 p.m. Memorials to Cuba Senior Center, Cuba, Mo. All local arrangements under the direction of he Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Francis "Fritz" J. Strothkamp Francis "Fritz" J. Strothkamp of Cuba, Mo. was born on March 2, 1919 in St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Frank Strothkamp and Magdalen Blanche (Stoffel) Strothkamp and passed away on June 9, 2002 at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 7 days. Fritz was preceded in death by his parents. On December 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Jessie L. Hall. They were happily married until Jessie preceded him in death on July 14, 1983. Fritz was a World War II veteran. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corp in the Pacific Theatres. He was awarded the Silver Star. He was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge No. 312, Cuba American Legion and Cuba VFW Post No. 7147. Fritz and his wife, Jessie, were the owner-operators of the Dairy Queen in Cuba for many years. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his sister Arlene Lanzara; special friend Marian Meade; and Luanne Lepp, who was like a daughter to him; and many friends. Fritz was a devoted husband, loving brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Francis "Fritz" Strothkamp was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at 11 a.m. with Gary Mace officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
