MO Local Obituaries for the Week of June 23, 2004 Herman Logan Cornstuble Herman Logan Cornstuble, 82, died at 2:22 p.m. on June 4, 2004 at Delmar Gardens North in Florissant, Missouri. He made his home in the St. Louis area for many years and had lived at Village North Retirement Community and at Delmar Gardens North Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past year. He was born August 20, 1921 in Wayne County, Illinois to Stephen A. Logan and Mary Catherine Feeney Cornstuble. He never married. He is survived by one sister, Beulah Lewis of Albuquerque, NM, niece Marilyn Simpson King (Alan) of Delaware, Ohio, nephews Fred E. Simpson (Rita) of Tucson, Arizona and George Arthur Lewis, Jr. (Mary) of Castle Rock, Colorado and great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death were sisters Berdie Simpson, Berniece Cermak and Leilah Cornstuble, half-sister Bonnie Cornstuble Jaide, nephew David Logan Lewis and great nephew Mark Eugene Simpson. Mr. Cornstuble received his early formal education in Wayne County, Illinois and was a graduate of Cuba High School in Cuba, Missouri. He proudly served in and received honorable discharges from the U. S. Army, U. S. Navy and the U. S. Marine Reserves. His WW II Army service was in the China-Burma-India Theater. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 1988 and retired from the McDonnell Douglas Corporation in 1990. A devout Christian, he had his early religious experiences at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Wayne County, Illinois. His latest church affiliation was with New Life Pentecostal Church in Bridgeton, Missouri. He enjoyed spending time at church-related activities and spent many hours playing his musical instruments. He was a member of the Hump Pilots Association and The American Institute of Industrial Engineers. He is listed in Marquis Who's Who in the World. The funeral service was held June 9 at 11 a.m. at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City, Illinois. Rev. Keith Neal officiated at the funeral and burial service. Burial was at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, south of Wayne City. Alberta Martin Alberta Martin (nee Rodgers) was born Sunday, July 18, 1915, at St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Andrew Rodgers and Alma (Hopkins) Rodgers. She entered eternal rest Friday, June 11, 2004, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 23 days. On Friday, September 13, 1935, Alberta was united in marriage to Jessie Willard Martin, better known as Nute Martin. One daughter, Loretta, was born to this union. They enjoyed over 61 years together, before his death, March 3, 1997. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Cubert Turnbough; one brother, Andrew Rodgers and wife Thelma, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Jefferson "Cebe" Martin, "Champ" Roland Martin, Eugene "Gene" Martin, Beatrice Butts, Stella Dotson, Delight Stringer, Harold Graddy, and May Martin. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Loretta Turnbough of Steelville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Robin Turnbough, Rhonda Smith and husband Gary all of Steelville, Missouri and Wade Turnbough and wife Carol of Owensville, Missouri; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice Kallmbah and Lillian Barnicle both of Steelville, Missouri and Mildred Graddy of St. Roberts, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Alberta Martin lay in state 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Musical selections were provided by Carol and Rev. Coleman. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Fred Monroe Martin Fred Monroe Martin was born May 16, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son to Wilford Monroe Martin and the late Velma (Barnett) Martin. Fred entered eternal rest on June 16, 2004 at his home in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 56 years and one month. In addition to his mother, Fred was preceded in death by one sister, Olive Martin and one brother, James Martin. Fred was a loving and devoted father of two daughters which are Misty Ann Nowland and husband Danny and Cindy Horn and husband Billy. Other survivors include four brothers, Gayle Martin, Billy Martin, Murl Martin and Dennis Martin; one sister Dorothy Moreland; four grandchildren, Kelly and Kasie Calicotte and Alexis and Olivia Nowland; other relatives and many dear friends. Fred will always be fondly remembered and deeply missed. Fred Monroe Martin lay in state from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004 in the Britton Chapel with Bill Martin officiating. Interment and committal prayer were in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Carol Ann Plank Carol Ann Plank (nee Daugherty) was born Wednesday, December 6, 1944, at Salem, Missouri, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Daugherty and Mary Harriet Pearl (Bartlett) Daugherty. She departed this life Friday, June 11, 2004, at her home in Jefferson City, Missouri, at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 5 days. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Eddie Daugherty and three sisters, Lucille Zeiss, Sharon Beers and Ruby Virginia Daugherty. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three loving sons, Mitchell Brand and wife Ritzel of St. James, Missouri, Curtis Brand and wife Tryphena of Steelville, Missouri and Billy Baker and wife Denna of Davisville, Missouri; her dear daughter, Lisa Black and husband Alan of Marshfield, Missouri; her devoted significant other, Arthur LeClaire of Jefferson City, Missouri. Two sisters, Faye Jean Garrett and husband Odell of Moberly, Missouri, and Mary Lou Brooks and husband Dale of Odessa, Missouri; nine grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. Carol will always be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her. Carol Ann Plank lay in state 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Tom Dykes officiating. Musical selections were provided by granddaughters, Alisha, Brandi and Casey Baker, and four of the daughters of the late J.R. and Wilma Ivie, Carol, Rosemary, Leatha and Joan. Committal prayers and interment were in the First Baptist Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Honoring Carol by serving as pallbearers were Joshua Brand, Kameron Griffin, Brad Brand, Aaron Brooks, D.J. Parson, and Cody Smith. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Emery "Jack" Ransom Emery "Jack" Ransom, Leasburg, Missouri was born on October 22, 1927 in Leasburg, Missouri to the late Emory and Lillie (nee Christopher) Ransom and passed away on June 13, 2004 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 21 days. In 1948, Jack was united in marriage to Betty Ennis at Leasburg, Missouri. They enjoyed several years together until her passing in April 1968. On March 28, 1969 Jack was united in marriage to Norma Lee Allender in St. Louis, Missouri, and to this union five sons and three daughters were born. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma Lee Ransom, one son, Stephen Ransom; three brothers, Delmar, Raymond, and Kenneth Ransom; two sisters, Dorthy Weber and Ellen Maness. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his four sons, Emery Lee, Stanley, Larry, and David Ransom; three daughters, Leanna Forbes, Norena Rasberry, and Jackie Furgeson; one brother, James Ransom; three sisters, Sally Hartung, Linda Jurgensmeyer, and Joy Weiskoff; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Jack was a loving father, brother, grandfather great-grandfather, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Emery "Jack" Ransom Jr. was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 7 p.m. with Rev. Jim Delacourt officiating.
