MO Local Obituaries for the Week of June 26, 2002 Ronald Edward Barr Ronald Edward Barr was born Thursday, June 23, 1938, at Viburnum, Mo., a son of the late Finis Edward Barr and Alice Gladine Barr (nee Turnbough). He departed this life June 9, 2002, at his home in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 16 days. Ron was united in marriage to Joan Marie Slinkard. One son and two daughters were born to this union. They have enjoyed forty years together. In addition to his parents, his father-in-law, Marion Slinkard and a brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Hill, preceded him in death. Ron served his country in the United States Navy. He enlisted August 1956 at St. Louis, Mo. and received his discharge August 1962 at the U.S. Navy Station, Long Beach, California. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Joan Barr of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; one son, Timothy Barr and wife Nan of Locust Grove, Georgia; two daughters, Michele and husband Randy Gardner of Locust Grove, Georgia and Wendelin and husband Steve Greb of Murfressboro, Tennessee; mother-in-law, Nelda I. Slinkard of Arnold, Mo. Two brothers, Harold Thomas Barr and wife Patty of Scott City, Mo. and William Finis Barr and wife Diana of Steelville, Mo.; five sisters, Erma Lee and husband Jesse Hogan of Steelville, Mo., Georgia Marie Hill of Lebanon, Tennessee, Doris Jo and husband Rev. John Gibbs of Henderson, Tennessee, Marilyn Sue and husband Rev. Don Dugan of Pleasant View, Tennessee, and Janet Lynn and husband Lindell Wood of Union, Mo. Brother-in-law, Ronnie Slinkard and wife Charlotte of Fenton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Gary, Joel and Lori Gardner of Locust Grove, Georgia, and Alice Greb of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Ronald Edward Barr lay in state 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, at Bonn Memorial Chapel, Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Roger Reeds officiating and Rev. Donald Sander assisting. His brother, Tommy Barr, gave the eulogy. Providing musical selections were Ronald's nieces and nephews. Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery, Viburnum, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Adam Barr, Chris Dungan, Donnie Dungan, Lonnie Morrison, Matt Morrison, Kevin Turnbough and Scott Wood. Mildred Louise Fleenor Mildred Louise Fleenor nee Woodward was born on August 24, 1921 at Steele, Mo. to the union of William H. Woodward and Margaret Sanders Woodward and passed away on June 13, 2002 at Owensville, Mo. at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 19 days. On December 29, 1940 Mildred was united in marriage to Harold E. Fleenor at Granite City, Illinois. Four children, Richard, Carol, Alvin and Judy, were born to this union. Mildred and Harold were happily married until he preceded her in death on December 24, 1994. Mildred was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Lorene Matchell and Dorothy Woodward and one son, Alvin Fleenor. She was a member of the Baptist Faith, member and past president of the Women's Republican Club. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving son, Richard Fleenor; two daughters Judy Erwin and Carol Havelka and husband Vernon; one sister Ollie Mae Richardson; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Mildred was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Mildred Louise Fleenor nee Woodward was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Monday, June 17, 2002 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Jasper officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Norma Goad Freeman Norma Goad Freeman, daughter of Albert Lee Goad and America Wallace Goad was born August 20, 1907 in Salem, Missouri and passed away June 9, 2002 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 20 days. Norma is survived by her husband, Walter Freeman of Cuba, Missouri; two children, Lawrence Baker of Rolla, Missouri and James Baker of Cuba, Missouri. Two sisters, Mickey Messler of Fenton, Missouri and Delores Cooksey of Salem, Missouri; two brothers, Rex Goad of Salem, Missouri and Samuel H. Goad of Salem, Missouri. Three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Arthur Baker and one brother Carl Goad. Norma will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services for Norma Lee Freeman were held June 12, 2002 in the Spencer Chapel in Salem with Rev. Rod Farthing officiating. Carol Carmack provided piano music. Serving as pallbearers were Gary Goad, Scott Shook, Ronnie Cooksey, Dennis Cooksey, Richard Cooksey, Jimmy L. Baker. Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with all arrangements under the direction of the Spencer Funeral Home. Opal M. Hammonds Opal M. Hammonds of Union, Mo., formerly of Sullivan, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the age of 65 years. Ms. Hammonds was born on August 26, 1936 in Sullivan to Van Benton and Hazel Opel (Burns) Parker, and has remained a lifelong resident of the Sullivan area. On April 23, 1954 she was united in marriage to Charles Hammonds in Sullivan. In addition to serving her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Opal worked for the Absorbent Cotton Company in Valley Park, Mo. for fourteen years, and later for the Sheltered Workshop in Sullivan for four years. She enjoyed horses, and playing bingo, dominoes, and baseball. Opal also found pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren. She was a follower of the Baptist faith, and will be remembered and cherished as an outspoken and loving woman who was known for her honesty and always speaking the truth. She is survived by six sons, Charles Benton Hammonds of the state of Oklahoma, Gary Wayne Hammonds and wife, Phillis, of Bremerton, Washington, Michael Eugene Hammonds and wife, Kellie, of Gray Summit, Mo., Richard Alan Hammonds and wife, Lisa, of St. Louis, Mo., Timothy Lee Hammonds and wife, Elizabeth, of Cherryville, Mo., and Terry Paul Hammonds and fiancee, Amy Robbins, of Union; two daughters, Linda Marie Gudermuth and fiancee, Brian McEntee, of the state of Illinois, and Cheryl Ann Miller of Port Orchard, Washington; two brothers, Charles Parker of Rison, Arkansas, and Donald Parker of Bourbon, Mo.; two sisters, Evelyn Skorcz of Sheridan, Arkansas, and Betty Ransom of Union; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hammonds was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Ray Parker, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Richard Williams officiating. Interment was in the Cave Spring Cemetery. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Hazel Elizabeth McRae Hazel Elizabeth McRae nee Ishee was born on December 6, 1913 at Jones County, Mississippi to the union of Benjamin Ishee and Mabel (Pippin) Ishee and passed away on June 16, 2002 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 10 days. She was united in marriage to Alpheus McRae. He preceded her in death. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons, Murdock McRae and wife Beth and Al McRae and wife Kitty; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Hazel were held on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at First Trinity Presbyterian Church of Laurel, Mississippi. Interment was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Laurel, Mississippi. Barbara Ellen Pinnell Barbara Ellen Pinnell nee Hawkins was born on May 11, 1933 at St. Clair, Mo. to the union of Jess Hawkins and Lillian Manning Hawkins and passed away on June 14, 2002 at Leasburg, Mo. at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 3 days. On December 6, 1963 Barbara was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Pinnell at Leasburg, Mo. Two sons, Kenny and Mark, and four daughters, Debbie, DeAnna, Tammy and Angela, were born to this union. They were happily married until Kenneth preceded Barbara in death on February 2, 1999. Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Springer, and two sister, Loretta Gay and Margaret Bailey. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leasburg, Mo. and a long time resident of Crawford County. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons Kenny Pinnell, Mark Pinnell and wife Angie; four daughters Debbie Ransom and husband Paul, DeAnna Springer and husband JC, Tammy Shepherd and husband Jack and Angela Witt and husband Eric. Louis Daniel Stulce Louis Daniel Stulce was born Tuesday, March 16, 1926, at St. Louis, Mo., a son of the late Raymond Lorenzo Stulce and Ethel May (Miller) Stulce. He entered eternal life Monday, June 17, 2002, at his home in Viburnum, Mo., at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 1 day. On December 22, 1946, Louis was united in marriage to Hallie Rebecca Mae Gilliam, daughter of Donald Herbert Gilliam and Maggie Elizabeth (Nelson) Gilliam. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union. They enjoyed over 38 years together before her death, August 17, 1985. Louis served his country in the United States Army. He was inducted June 10, 1944 at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He was awarded World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and One Overseas Bar, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. He received his honorable discharge April 23, 1946. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Fred, Jonie, Emery, and Raymond Stulce and one sister, Louise and husband Gene Yount, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Walsh, Bill Blout, Francis Blair and Velva Gilliam. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his two sons, Dan Stulce and Janice Asbridge of Viburnum, Mo., Donald (Duck) Stulce and wife Erna of Steelville, Mo.; two daughters, Marlene and husband Clarence Boulch of Steelville, Mo. and Diane and husband John DeNoon of Viburnum, Mo.; special companion, Evelyn Thomas of Caledonia, Mo.; two sisters, Bernice Walsh of Barnhart, Mo. and Mary Blount of Viburnum, Mo. Louis Daniel Stulce lay in state 3-8 Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at the Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Interment and committal prayers were at Skaggs Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Mark Beeman, Randy Blount, Clarence Boulch, Paul Boulch, John DeNoon, Jake Hedrick, Marvin Mathes and Donald Stulce, Jr. Full military honors with firing party, taps, folding of the flag and presentation were provided by Missouri Military Funeral Honors program at the graveside. Virginia Mary Wallis Virginia Mary Wallis nee Mullen of Bourbon, Missouri was born on October 26, 1913 at Leasburg, Missouri to the union of Dennis P. Mullen and Lottie (Purvine) Mullen and passed away at her home in Bourbon, Missouri on June 17, 2002 at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 21 days. On November 11, 1934 Virginia was united in marriage to Clarence Edward Wallis in Steelville, Missouri. Three sons, Ed, Bob and Bill and three daughters, Shirley, Jean and Viola were born to this union. They were happily married until Ed preceded her in death on November 11, 1955. Virginia was also preceded in death by her parents, one son Bill Wallis, and one daughter Viola Wallis, son-in-law Jim Wilcox; six brothers: Ed, Haskell, Earl, Roy, Francis and Ernest Mullen and two sisters: Geneva Hendrix and Edna Mullen. Virginia was a long time resident of Crawford County and the Post Mistress for 25 years at Leasburg, Missouri Post Office. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Leasburg, Missouri. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving sons Ed Wallis and wife Marilyn and Bob Wallis and wife Pat, daughter-in-law Lynn Wallis; two daughters: Shirley Wilcox and Jean Keck; one brother Oliver Mullen and wife Gerry; one sister Marie Nixon; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Virginia Mary Wallis was in state at the Eaton Funeral Home in Bourbon, Missouri on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 after 4 p.m. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Leasburg, Missouri on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment was in the Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Memorials to the Bill Wallis Memorial Fund or BJC Hospice, Sullivan, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Deloris M. Wilson A graveside service was held Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at the Bellerive Cemetery in Creve Coeur for Deloris M. (Lori) Wilson, 79, of rural Linn. Mrs. Wilson died Sunday, June 16, 2002 at the Westphalia Retirement Center. She was born February 4, 1923 in St. Louis to Thomas and Martha Doyle. A bookkeeper in St. Louis for 15 years, she was married to Leslie Clay Wilson, who died in November of 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Martha A. Doney of rural Linn, formerly of Cuba, Mo.; a son, Thomas A. Wilson of Jefferson City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
