Beers was born Sunday, January 19, 1936, at Courtois, Missouri, a son of the late Lloyd Beers and Opal (Gilliam) Beers. At an early age he went to live with Dallas and Ida Turnbough and was accepted as one of their own. He departed this life June 18, 2001, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 30 days. On November 11, 1956, at the Cherryville Assembly of God Church, Al was united in marriage to Margaret Mae Britton, daughter of the late Roy Estel Britton and Alice Mae (Turnbough) Britton. One daughter and two sons were born to this union. In addition to his parents, Loyd and Opal Beers and adoptive parents, Dallas and Ida Turnbough; he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon Beers, Ray Beers and Junior Beers and three sisters, Eileen Stevens, Ina Stoval and Melda Burns. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife of over 44 years, Margaret Beers of the home in Steelville, Missouri; one daughter, Sheila Anderson; two sons, Alan Beers and wife Joanne, Jerry Beers and wife Shelly all of Steelville, Missouri; eight grandchildren. Three brothers, Earl Beers and wife Dorothy of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Everett Beers and wife Ann of Florida, Gerald Beers and wife Karen of Fenton, Missouri; five sisters, Lorine Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, Pauline and husband Al Miloweski, Hazel and husband Ken Crowder; Delores Harmon all of Sullivan, Missouri, Wilma Gleason of Denver, Colorado. Alfred L. Beers lay in state 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2001 at the First Assembly of God Church, Steelville, Missouri with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating and Rev. Joe Massey assisting. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Russell Counts, Mike DeClechi, Sonny Haffer, Howard Hutson, John Palmer, Terry Palmer, Mike Sanders and Jerry Setzer. Matilda Rosetta Bohenkamp Matilda Rosetta Bohenkamp was born on February 8, 1917 at Doniphan, Mo., and passed away at Harrisonburg, Virginia on June 19, 2001 at the age of 84 years. She was the youngest of twelve children of Augustus and Martha (Johnson) Caldwell. Rosetta, as her family and friends knew her, was ten years old when her father died tragically from poison gas while digging a well. She and her mother moved to St. Louis where she grew up and later married William Bockewitz. This union was blessed with two sons, Carl Edward and William Paul Bockewitz. Her husband, Bill, entered the U.S. Army in World War II and was killed in France on November 11, 1944. Tragedy seemed to be a part of Rosetta's life. On February 28, 1967 her son, Marine Captain Carl Bockewitz was killed in Vietnam. With her two small sons, Rosetta moved to Sullivan, Mo., in 1948 and went to work at the Ramsey Corporation. It was there that she met Wilbur Bohenkamp, to whom she was married on May 3, 1953. They were the parents of Peggy Susan and William Douglas. Wilbur and Rosetta lived on the farm near Bourbon, Mo. until he passed away on November 9, 1982 as a result of a farming accident. Throughout her life Rosetta's concern was for better education for every one. It was that interest which prompted her to become the librarian at the Bourbon Library. She took an interest in her children's education, volunteered as a room mother, and was president of the parents' organization, the Mothers Club. In 1963 she was elected to the R-1 Board of Education, being one of the first women to serve on the board. At the age of 53 she enrolled at East Central College and received an Associate of Arts Degree in 1973, which led to a career in the Sullivan school system. Rosetta was active in the community as well. She was instrumental in starting the Agape Thrift Shop in Bourbon and worked there until 1997. She received many honors and much appreciation for her community work. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. Rosetta will be remembered by her ready smile, and her happy disposition, despite the sadness in her life. Rosetta is survived by two sons, William Paul Bockewitz and wife, Karen of Quincy, Illinois and William Douglas Bohenkamp and wife, Pam of Springfield, Mo.; one daughter, Peggy Bell and husband, Don of Staunton, Virginia; six grandchildren, Paul Bockewitz, Julie Huseman, Ali and Zachary Bell, and Jessie and Ingrid Bohenkamp; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 from the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon with Reverend Leota Moore and Pastor Connie Gallagher officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Mo. Those who desire may make memorials to the Bourbon Ecumenical Christian Thrift Shop or to the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. Dorothy K. Ewald Dorothy K. Ewald (nee Kamper) was born Friday, November 22, 1918, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Louis and Florence Kamper. She departed this life Monday, June 11, 2001, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 20 days. Dorothy was united in marriage to Roy William Ewald on June 23, 1941 in Union, Missouri. One daughter, Linda, was born to this union. Roy preceded her in death. She was a life long member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Cuba, Missouri. Tina worked for Von Hoffman Printing Company of Owensville, Mo. as a binder. Albert Hewkin Albert Hewkin was born Friday, January 15, 1909, in Davisville, Missouri, son of the late William Joseph Hewkin and Cora (Andrews) Hewkin. He entered eternal rest Sunday, June 3, 2001, in the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 18 days. On February 5, 1938, at Caledonia, Missouri, Albert was united in marriage to Margaret Marvene Statham, daughter of the late Newton S. Statham and Margaret H. (Robinson) Statham. One son and two daughters were born to this union. They have enjoyed 63 years together. In addition to his parents Albert was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Clifford and Opal Hewkin, Silas and Clella Hewkin, Walter and Evie Hewkin, Arthur and Della Hewkin and Fred Hewkin; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Minnie and Herman Heithaus and Pearl Coffman. Leila Alberta Miller Leila Alberta Miller (nee Key) was born Tuesday, August 10, 1909, in Steelville, Missouri, a daughter of the late George Albert Key and Maude Jane (O'Neal) Key. She entered eternal rest Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Colonadas Nursing Home, Granite City, Illinois, at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 8 days. On December 17, 1927, at Granite City, Illinois, Rev. Ben Adams joined Leila in marriage to Lawrence Earl Miller. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union. They enjoyed over 61 years together before his death, July 12, 1988. In addition to her parents and Lawrence, she was preceded in death by one son, Herb Miller; two brothers, George Key and Roderic Key and one sister Rosalie Welsh. Paul Farrell Risinger Paul Farrell Risinger of Cuba, Missouri was born on July 20, 1921 to the union of Hartford Risinger and Betty Risinger nee Childress and passed away on June 16, 2001 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 26 days. On October 12, 1945, Paul was united in marriage to Avonell "Abbie" Rutz in St. Louis, Missouri. One son, Gary and one daughter, Gail, were born to this union. Paul and Abbie had been happily married for 55 years. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leaman and Clayton Risinger, one sister, Virginia Dennis and one infant grandson. Paul was a retired Master Jeweler who worked and owned Paul Risinger Manufacturing Jewelers for 37 years downtown St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Cuba, Missouri, St. Louis Ambassador's Club, member of St. Louis Lions Club and a great supporter of St. Louis Variety Club Women for crippled children. After retiring, Paul and Abbie moved to Indian Hills Lake Community and was active in local community affairs. James Floyd Souders James Floyd Souders of Cuba, Mo. was born on March 20, 1924 at Jakes Prairie, Mo. to the union of Ben H. Souders and Anna Mae Ringeisen Souders and passed away on June 21, 2001 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 1 day. In 1948 Floyd was united in marriage to Arlene Jacobsen. Three sons, Norman, Ervin and Albert, and one daughter, Dorothy, were born to this union. Arlene preceded Floyd in death on September 21, 1981. In 1985 Floyd was united in marriage to Iola Zeigler. She preceded him in death in 1989. Floyd was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons Ervin and Albert Souders; one grandson Jonathan Yates; one great-grandson Brandon Souders, one brother Melvin Souders and one sister Elsie Mae Larimore. Floyd was a lifelong resident of Crawford County, he served in World War II and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Gladys Marie Summers Gladys Summers nee Adams was born Monday, June 18, 1923 at Steelville, Mo. to John Mathew Adams and Sue Anna Ray Adams. She departed this life on Friday, June 22, 2001 at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 78 years and 4 days. Gladys grew up in the Hinch Creek area in rural Crawford County and attended school there. On November 24, 1945 Gladys Adams was united in marriage to Walter Alvin Summers, and to this union two daughters were born. Gladys professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Cuba, Mo. at the time of her death. Gladys was a life long resident of Crawford County. For several years they lived on a farm and moved to Cuba in 1965. She managed a laundromat in Cuba before her retirement. Gladys enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed cooking and playing Bingo. Gladys was a member of Veteran's of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary Post 7147. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter A. Summers, who passed away February 6, 1994; one brother, Clarence Adams and wife Ruth; three sisters, Edith Isgriggs and husband Clarence, Ethel Pinson and husband Roy, and Vivian Ransom and husband Dewey; two brothers-in-law, Horace Halbert and Leonard Simpson. William Joseph Wilkerson William Joseph "Pop" Wilkerson was born Thursday, September 16, 1925, in Springfield, Missouri, a son of the late Hobert William Wilkerson and G. Anna Wilkerson (nee Perryman). Pop passed to his reward on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, with his family at his side, at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 27 days. After completing his high school education in 1945, William joined the Navy and was stationed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was trained as an Aviation Radioman and Gunnery Specialist. While in Florida, he was joined by Theresa Lorrine Cook, better known as "Rene,: and they were united in marriage. Three sons, Tom, Paul and David and one daughter, Frances were born to this union. After completing his military commitment, he returned to Springfield, enrolled in college and received a B.S. degree in education. Pop was certified to teach physical education, biology, mathematics, industrial arts and driver's education. His teaching career began in Salem, Missouri where he taught biology and physical education and coached. His next move was to Cherryville, Missouri where he taught, coached, was a principal and began driving a school bus. Pop's final move was to Steelville, Missouri where he coached, taught physical education and mathematics and drove a school bus. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Theresa Lorrine "Rene" Wilkerson of Steelville, Missouri; three sons and one daughter, Thomas Richard Wilkerson and wife Vickie of Lawrence, Kansas, Frances Ann and Gary Felton of Nixa, Missouri, Paul Edward Wilkerson and wife Cheryl and David Timothy Wilkerson and wife Robin all of Steelville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
