MO Local Obituaries for the Week of July 8, 2009 Walter “Tom” Thomas Claus Walter “Tom” Thomas Claus was born October 20, 1946 in St. James, Missouri to Walter and Lola (Sewell) Claus and passed away June 30, 2009 in St. James, Missouri at the age of 62 years. Tom was united in marriage to Martha House on February 12, 1966 and to this union two children were born. Tom was employed by South Side Motors for many years. He had a great interest in cars and he was a big racing fan, always proud of wearing the #42 racing jersey, which bore the name of his eldest son “Tommy Claus Racing.” He was a big fan and could be found in the pit and stands on racing night. Tom was a big Cardinal Baseball fan, if it wasn’t on television he would listen on the radio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lola Claus; wife, Martha in March 2007; brothers, Leslie, Jack and Henry Claus and sister Mae Suetterlin. He is survived by his sons, Tommy Claus, of Cuba, Missouri and Ryan Claus and fiancé Jessica, of Rolla, Missouri; brothers, Kenneth Claus and wife Joyce, of St. Peters, Missouri, Donald Claus and wife Dorothy, of St. Louis, Missouri and Harold Claus, of St. Louis, Missouri; sisters, Loree Morehouse and husband Dorris, of St. Louis, Missouri, Marie Arnicar, of St. Louis, Missouri, Juanita Foust, of St. James, Missouri, Wilma Sheridan and husband Jack, of St. James, Missouri, Dorothy Meurer and husband Frank, of St. James, Missouri and Millie Hendrick, of St. James, Missouri; granddaughter, Lillian Martha Claus; other relatives and friends. Winifred Phyllis Cooley Winifred Phyllis (Watkins) Cooley was born Sept. 25, 1938, in St. James, Missouri, to Luman Fredrick Watkins and Winifred Hazel (Havens) Watkins and passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at home in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 70 years. Phyllis graduated from Rolla High School in 1956. On June 2, 1956 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Franklin Cooley in St. James, Missouri and to this union, three children were born. Through the years, she had various jobs including home daycare, a rural paper delivery route, and was a rural mail carrier. Phyllis enjoyed cooking and baking special treats, and was an avid collector of recipes and cookbooks. She also collected Depression Glass, liked to shop, but was very frugal, and could make a penny stretch into a dollar. However, she never could resist “just one more” pair of shoes! She was an exceptional seamstress. She enjoyed many other handcrafts, including crochet, cross stitch, and hand quilting. She was a 29-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rolla Chapter #176 and held various Eastern Star offices through the years, and was District Deputy Grand Matron in 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luman and Winifred Watkins; one sister, Hazel Chalfant, and one nephew, Douglas Glenn. She is survived by her husband of the home, Benjamin Franklin; one son, Franklin Craig Cooley and his wife Billie of Staffordsville, Kentucky; daughters, Winifred Marlene Feeler of St. James, Missouri; and Patricia Lynne Ramsey and her husband Thomas of Norman, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Michael Ball and family, Rachel Cooley, Ben Cooley, Becky Losing, Megan Feeler, Matthew Ramsey, and Andrew Ramsey; great grandchildren, Mikayla Ray and Jarrett Ray; sister, Zanetta Glenn and family of Rolla, Missouri; brothers, Luman “Sonny” Watkins and family of Rolla, Missouri and John Wilk Watkins and family of Idaho; other relatives and friends. Visitation was at 2 p.m. on Thursday July 2, 2009 at James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri. Funeral services and Eastern Star ceremony were at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Steve Barber officiating.  Interment at Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla Missouri. Pallbearers were Scott Watkins, Jeff Watkins, Randy Watkins, Keith Chalfant, William “Buck” Buchanan, and Martin Peterman. Maryetta Kathleen Graddy Maryetta Kathleen Graddy, known to all as Kathy, of Bourbon, Missouri was born May 22, 1934 in Arcadia, Missouri to Raney Edward Reeves and Eva Helen Anderson Reeves and passed away July 2, 2009 at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 10 days. On March 7, 1953 she was united in marriage to Edward James Graddy and to this union seven children were born. Kathy was a Christian and member of the Leasburg Assembly of God Church in Leasburg, Missouri. During her working years, she has worked at various jobs, including Paramount Cap Factory in Bourbon and Midwest Shoe Company in Sullivan. Later she started her own business, Kathy’s Quilt Shop in Bourbon. She also enjoyed crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raney and Eva Reeves; two brothers, Vernon and Eugene Reeves and two sisters, June Gerloff and Shirley Sauls. She is survived by her husband, Edward Graddy of Bourbon, Missouri; five sons, James Graddy of St. Clair, Missouri, Rick Graddy and wife Tonua of Sullivan, Missouri, Cris Graddy of Bourbon, Missouri, Dwayne Graddy of Cuba, Missouri and Warren Graddy and wife Donna of Cuba, Missouri; two daughters, Sharon Graddy of Steelville, Missouri and Pamela Chapman of Washington, Missouri; five brothers, Joe Parmer and wife Christine of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Don Reeves and wife Helen of Bourbon, Missouri, Kenneth Reeves and wife Melba of Ellisville, Missouri, Paul Reeves and wife Nell of Marthasville, Missouri and J.R. Margaret C. “Margo” Rodgers Margaret C. “Margo” Rodgers, of Sullivan, Missouri, was born on October 10, 1910, in Collinsville, Illinois, to Henry Madison Kimberlin and Maggie (Bosomworth) Kimberlin and passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the age of 98 years. She began playing the piano at age five and played throughout her entire life. As a pre-teen, she played for Sunday school and at 15 was playing for school dances and such. After graduating from high school, she began playing at clubs in St. Louis and about 1930, was in an all girls band that ventured to Steelville, Missouri. They spent their summers playing at Bird’s Nest Resort and it was there that she met and later married Bert Rodgers from Cuba Missouri on August 18, 1934. They had two children, Bud and Pat, and she curtailed her playing outside the home until Bert’s untimely death in 1955. At the urging of her friends and family, Margo began playing with a group again, “Margo and the Dixie Cats.” Many remember her playing at Zeno’s Steak House until it closed. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years and played the organ for them over 20 years. Even though she had been confined to a wheel chair in recent years, she continued to play the piano and entertain the residents at the Meramec Nursing Center where she resided. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Maggie Kimberlin; three sisters and a son-in-law, Bob Chappell. She is survived by a son, Bud Rodgers and wife Betty of Sullivan, Missouri; a daughter, Pat Chappell of Blue Springs, Missouri; grandchildren, J.R., Jim and Bill Chappell, Lisa Lochner, Brad Rodgers, Denise Seaman, and Mark DuVall; 21 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. John Charles Roth John Charles Roth of St. Louis, Missouri was born April 3, 1959 in St. Louis Missouri to Charles T. Roth and Marie Krewson Roth and passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 on his farm outside of Steelville, Missouri, the result of an accident at the age of 50 years. John was the founder of Ozark Trails Association “OTA.” He was owner of Mckinsy and Roth, Inc. retiring in 2000. He enjoyed his farm and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and mother-in-law, Mary Jean Niemann. He is survived by his wife, Anne Roth of the home; sons, Michael J. Roth of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Thomas P. Roth of St. Louis, Missouri; parents, Charles and Marie Roth of St. Louis County, Missouri; father-in-law, William C. Kordell Haley Sanders Kordell Haley Sanders was born June 21, 1928 in Cook Station, Missouri to Cecil H. and Mary E. (Haley) Sanders and passed away June 16, 2009 at the Veterans Home, St. James, Missouri at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 26 days. On October 29, 1966 he married Dorothy M. Clark. He served his country in the Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Mary Sanders; siblings, Kenneth G. Sanders Sr. and wife Margaret J. Sanders, Lillie B. Laney and husband Marlin O. Laney. He is survived by children, Kordell H. Sanders Jr., Cynthia K. Sanders, Timothy C. Sanders and wife Tina R. Sanders, all of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Nicole M. Sanders, Amanda C. Sanders, Timothy C. Sanders Jr. and Dylan L. Taylor. Cathy Marie Scott Cathy Marie Scott of Steelville, Missouri was born on Monday, November 11, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to George Benjamin Stoops and Florence Teresa Obermeyer Stoops and passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at St. Clare Medical Center, Fenton, Missouri at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 16 days. Cathy married Francis “Scotty” E. Scott on July 31, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Cathy worked for nearly 30 years as a secretary and retired from McDonnell Douglas Corporation, St. Louis, Missouri. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary-VFW Post #7147 of Cuba, Missouri. She enjoyed going to flea markets, auctions, garage sales, and the casinos especially playing bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence Stroops; brother, Oliver Stoops; children, Dennis and Denise Scott and brothers-in-law, Mike Scott and Richard Scott. She is survived by her husband, Francis “Scotty” Scott of Steelville, Missouri; daughter, Deb Tucker and husband Jim of Castle Rock, Colorado; granddaughters, Katie (Matt) Barrows of Broomfield, Colorado and Kristy (Dan Freeman) Compiseno of Port St. Lucie, Florida; sisters-in-law, Shelby Scott of Petaluma, California, Mary Stoops of West Plains, Missouri and Connie Scott of Adair, Illinois; great grandchildren, Jonny, Lilly and Emily Freeman; other relatives and friends. Carl Franklin Wilson Carl Franklin Wilson of Rolla, Missouri was born to Albert Franklin Wilson and Stella Augusta “Henson” Wilson on May 14, 1938, in Flat, Missouri and passed away June 29, 2009, at the age of 71 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Stella Wilson and son, Johnny “Lee” Wilson.
