Grover Cleveland Barton Sr.
Grover Cleveland Barton, Sr. of Steelville was born to the union
of Lonnie C. Barton and Lavada Henson on April 23, 1950 in Bismarck,
Missouri and passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at the age of 63 years.
Grover was united in marriage to Phyllis Sue Shoemake on
October 17, 2000 in Bismarck, Missouri.
Grover was self employed having owned and operated a Salvage Yard
in Davisville, Missouri and was an Evangelical Minister. He enjoyed
buying, selling and salvaging cars and trucks.
Grover spent the majority of his life in Wortham, Missouri but was
most recently a resident of Steelville, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Barton; three
brothers, Jim, Elmer (Jock) and Willard Barton; four grandchildren,
Amber Barton, Ashley Barton, Austin Barton and Tara Minnich.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Barton of Steelville, Missouri;
children, Grover Barton and wife Kathy of Boss, Missouri, Debbie
(Barton) Kean and husband William of Pacific, Missouri, Tim Barton
and wife Shelley of Cherryville, Missouri, Bryan Barton and wife
Denise of Farmington, Missouri, Diana (Barton) Smith and husband

Visitation was held Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 11 a.m. until time of
service at 1 p.m. at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri with Bro. John Ripley officiating. Special music of “Daddy’s
Hands,” “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” and “Go Rest High” was played.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Mitchell Cemetery at Park
Hills, Missouri with Rev. Joe Banderman officiating.
Family members were casket bearers.

Thelma Pearl Brand
Thelma Pearl Brand, nee Shockley, of Steelville, Missouri was born
August 26, 1928 in Rice, Illinois to Earl M. and Clara B. Hagler
Shockley and passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at the age of 84 years,
10 months and 6 days.
On April 9, 1949, in Illinois, she was united in marriage to Eugene
Brand and to this union three children were born.
Thelma was a member of the Steelville Assembly of God Church. She
loved reading her Bible and listening to music. In her spare time,
she enjoyed embroidering.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Clara Shockley;
her husband Eugene in 2000; brother, Wayne Shockley and wife Mary;
brothers-in-law, Harvey Jamerson, James Brand, Walter Renner and
Jack Walters.
She is survived by her son, Earl Brand and wife Pat of Steelville,
Missouri; two daughters, Linda Leach of Steelville, Missouri and Phyllis
Evans and husband Adrian of Catawissa, Missouri; one brother Harold
Shockley and wife Jeannie of Lillian, Alabama; one sister, Gladys
Jamerson of Granite City, Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Fern Christy and husband Bill, Wanda Brand of Steelville, Missouri,
Lydia Renner of St. Louis, Missouri, Donald Brand and wife Doris of
Owensville, Missouri, Allen Brand and wife Linda of Melville,
Missouri and Doris Walters of Lebanon, Oregon; seven grandchildren,
Pamela Adams and husband Timmy, Patricia Adams, Renee’ Overton and
husband Charles, Russell Eugene Brand and wife Marcia, Rodney Brand,
Billy Leach and Wesley Leach; 13 great grandchildren, Aaron Adams
and wife Amanda, Eric Adams, Brianna Adams, Kristine Adams, John

Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013
at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with
Rev. Jerry Beers and Rev. Rod Farthing officiating. Special music
of “Peace in the Valley,” “Precious Lord,” and “In the Garden”
was played.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Pleasant Point Cemetery,
Steelville, Missouri.
Casket bearers were Russell Brand, Rodney Brand, Billy Leach,
Wesley Leach, Aaron Adams, Eric Adams, Brandon Adams and Michael
Adams. Honorary casket bearers were Josiah Overton, Zach Overton and
Luke Overton.

James Alfred Foust
James Alfred Foust of St. James, Missouri was born on
February 10, 1948 in Waynesville, Missouri to Ervin Jr. and Frances
(Ray) Foust and passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at
the age of 65 years, 4 months and 22 days.
He was united in marriage to Verlee G. Southard on May 24, 1968 at
Broadway Baptist Church, Vichy, Missouri.
He served his country for four years in the Army. He worked at the
USGS for 22 years. He was a trucking owner operator for 18 years.
He loved to fish, hunt and especially be with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Jr. and Frances Foust;
stepfather, Arthur Kulp Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Arthur C.
and Myrtle A. Southard; and granddaughter, Alexa Bartlett.
He is survived by his wife, Verlee G. (Southard) Foust; one son,
Jim Foust and wife Kassie of St. James, Missouri; one daughter,
Angela Ellen Smith of St. James, Missouri; one brother, Thomas
“Tommie” Kulp of Jefferson City, Missouri; two half brothers, Mike
Foust and Donny Foust of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, Kylie
Bartlett, Candice Veo, Hannah Pilkenton and Summer Pilkenton; step-
grandmother, Ines Kulp of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was Sunday, July 7, 2013 from noon until time of service
at 2 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
Memorial services were conducted on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at 2 p.m.
at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri with Don Carson officiating.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in
St. James, Missouri.
Fern J. Remington
Fern J. Remington (nee Kelso) a long-time resident of Cuba, Missouri
was born in Beaufort, Missouri on August 3, 1917 and passed away
June 30, 2013 at the Golden Living Nursing Home, St. James, Missouri
at the age of 95 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Amanda (nee Gerling) and
Oscar Kelso; husband, R. Herbert Remington; sister, Blanche and
brother-in-law, Floyd Burris.
She is survived by two nephews, Ronald and wife Patsy Burris and
Richard and wife Judy Burris; great nieces and nephews, Kimberly
(Burris) Roberts, Orenda Burris, Josh Burris, Benjamin Burris,
Ronald Burris II, Todd Davis, William Burrris, Cortland Burris,
Aiden and Presley Burris and Michael Burris; other relatives and
friends.
Burial was in the Mount Lebanon Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
John Ike Stroup
John Ike Stroup of Sullivan, Missouri was born on December 15, 1947
to Woodrow and Grace (Mercer) Stroup and passed away Thursday,
July 4, 2013 at the age of 65 years.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1968
to 1974.
He was united in marriage to Linda Martin on April 25, 1968 in
Bourbon, Missouri.
John was employed in the construction trade with Laborers Local
#840 in Rolla, Missouri and was an avid horseman and farrier. He
co-founded the Sullivan Saddle Club and enjoyed competing in team
and calf roping. John was involved in many organizations including;
Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3781, Moose Lodge, Elks, American
Legion, V. F. W., and Sullivan Saddle Club. He volunteered and
donated to numerous veterans and children’s charities.
He was preceded by his parents, Woodrow and Grace Stroup; and two
brothers, Jimmie and Richard Stroup.
He is survived by his wife, Linda L. (Martin) Stroup of Sullivan,
Missouri; one son, Justin Stroup and wife Berri of Sullivan,
Missouri; two daughters, Nocona Schulz and husband Keith of
Florissant, Missouri and Carrie Tsalamandris and husband Terry of
St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Austin and Morgan Stroup,
Drew Davis, Matthew and Sara Endres; four brothers, Willard Stroup
and wife Mary of Bourbon, Missouri, Woodrow Stroup and wife Carolyn
of Sullivan, Missouri, Kenneth Stroup and wife Kathy of Beauford,
Georgia, Mitchell Stroup and wife Sonya of Sullivan, Missouri; two
sisters, Betty Harmon and husband Donny of Sullivan, Missouri and
Charlotte Sherell and husband Larry of Bourbon, Missouri; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 with an Eagle
Service at 7 p.m. all at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan,
Missouri.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013
from the chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri
with Pastor Ray L. Schatz officiating.
Interment was in the Anthonies Mill Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in
Sullivan, Missouri.
Robert R. Young
Robert R. Young of Steelville, Missouri was born on Thursday,
April 1, 1943 in Keysville, Missouri to Conn Holmes and Pansy
Delight Dicus Young and passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013
at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Robert graduated from Cherryville High School then served in the
Army National Guard.
He married Janet Garrison on September 19, 1970 in Steelville,
Missouri and to this union three children were born.
He previously worked as a machinist and driller in the Lead Mines.
He attended Center Point Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, writing, yard work especially
building rock walls, watching St. Louis Cardinal ball team and walking.
He was preceded in death by his father, Conn Holmes Young and nephew,
Paul Young.
He is survived by his children, Bert Young, Maridee (Claude) Riley,
and Melanie (Will) Johnson; mother, Pansy Dicus Young, all of
Steelville, Missouri; brothers, Jim (Geneva) Young, Lee (Eula) Young,
Dale (Dottie) Young, all of Steelville, Missouri and Glen (Barb)
Young of Cuba, Missouri; sister, Grace (Curt) Ware of Steelville,
Missouri; special friend, David Hall of Steelville, Missouri;
grandchildren, Joseph, Caleb, Cole, Abigail, Cassidy, Connor, and
Cayden; step grandchildren, Claude Riley III, Kymberly and Tyler
Sanders; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Monday, July 8, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. and funeral
service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Hutson Funeral
Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating.
Burial was in the Keysville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
