Evelyn Bernice Beezley
Evelyn Bernice Beezley nee Entwistle was born Saturday, May 23, 1915, at
Wesco, Mo., a daughter of the late Norene (Laney) and James Entwistle, and
passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001.
On July 20, 1935, at Rolla, Mo., Evelyn was united in marriage to Joel
Samuel Beezley. One son and two daughters were born to this union. They
enjoyed over fifty-one years together, before his death February 18, 1987.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Jean Beezley, when
she was five years old.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her son Joel Thomas (Tom)
Beezley and wife Vickie of Steelville, Mo., one daughter Martha Lee Watkins
and husband G. L. Watkins of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a special nephew, Rufus
Beezley and wife Margaret of St. Louis, Mo., four grandchildren, Michael
Conley and wife Emily of Houston, Texas, Laura Conley of Tuscaloosa,
Alabama, Mark Beezley and Kimberlee Beezley of Steelville, Mo., other
relatives and many friends, all who will remember her bright cheery smile
and friendly nature.
She worked in the Ferguson-Florissant School District for fourteen years
and retired from Brown Shoe after eight years. She enjoyed traveling and
visiting with friend and relatives. She was a dependable volunteer at the
Steelville Food Pantry from its beginning in 1990. She also was a volunteer
at Golden Echoes. She was a member of Steelville Presbyterian Church,
Philthean Ladies Circle and the Steelville Extension Club.
Evelyn Bernice Beezley lay in state 5-9 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2001, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held
11 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Dale Starr
officiating. Musical selections were provided by organist Deloris Bell.
Committal prayers and interment were in Wesco Cemetery, Wesco, Mo. Serving
as pallbearers were Gregg Alster, Sam Barnicle, Scott Beezley, Dennis
Goreman, Bill Moreland and Patrick Moreland.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Lucia Ann Brayfield
Lucia Ann Brayfield nee Fishwick, formerly of Cuba, Mo. was born on
September 28, 1913 at Cuba, Mo. to the union of William Burrell Fishwick
and Margaret (Bish) Fishwick and passed away on June 25, 2001 at Warrenton,
Mo. at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 27 days.
On April 4, 1923 she was united in marriage to Louis J. Brayfield at St.
Louis, Mo. One son, Bruce, and one daughter, Jean, were born to this union.
They were happily married until Louis preceded her in death on July 17,
1984.
Lucia was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ralph
Burrell Fishwick.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving
daughter Jean Hayden; one son Bruce Brayfield; one brother Marvin Fishwick
and wife Elizabeth; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other
relatives and friends.
Lucia was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, good friend
to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Lucia Ann Brayfield nee Fishwick was in state at the Britton Funeral Home
of Cuba, Mo. Graveside services were held on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at
10:30 a.m. with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. Interment was in the
Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Ruth Margaret Cragle
Ruth Margaret Cragle nee Beezley of Cuba, Mo. was born on July 23, 1914 at
St. James, Mo. to the union of William C. Beezley and Effie (Rowland)
Beezley and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Bonne
Terre, Mo. at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 10 days.
On September 12, 1931 Ruth was united in marriage to George Cragle at
Rolla, Mo. They were happily married until he preceded her in death on July
20, 1992.
In addition to being preceded in death by her parents, Ruth was also
preceded in death by two brothers, Rowland and Charles Beezley and one
sister, Edith Kirgan.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two daughters
Donna Sue Rawson and husband James K. and Patricia Martin and husband
James; two grandsons Joshua Rawson and Michael Rawson; sister-in-laws;
nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Ruth was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, good friend to
all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Ruth Margaret (Beezley) Cragle was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at 1
p.m. with Rev. William F. Rawson officiating. Interment was in the Meramec
Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Melba Esther Creecy
Melba Esther Creecy nee Jurgensmeyer was born Saturday, January 19, 1918,
in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of the late Arthur H. Jurgensmeyer and Fannie
(Freebersyser) Jurgensmeyer.
She departed this life Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Gibbs Care Center,
Steelville, Mo., at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Melba was united in marriage to John J. (Jack) Creecy. One son, William
(Bill) James Creecy and one daughter, Elaine Gayle Creecy, were born to
this union.
Jack preceded her in death as did their daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and
Wayne Kapp.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her son and
daughter-in-law, Bill and Donna Creecy, Echo Valley Ranch, Bourbon, Mo.;
three grandsons, Michael, Andrew and Alexander Creecy, all of St. Louis,
Mo., other relatives and friends.

Spring Street, Steelville, Mo. 65565.

Franklin Ellis Evans
Franklin Ellis Evans was born in Osage Township, Crawford County, Mo., on
Sunday, September 22, 1935, to the union of Radford Evans and Eva
(Chandler) Skaggs Evans.
He entered eternal rest Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at DeSoto, Mo., at the age
of 65 years, 9 months and 4 days.
On November 14, 1952, Franklin was united in marriage to Eulah Gillam. They
enjoyed over forty-seven years together before her death, April 7, 2000.
In addition to his parents and Eulah, he was preceded in death by one
brother, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herman and Hildred Skaggs
Claude Riggs, Ernest Coleman, Chester and Beulah Gillam, Lena Lisitano and
Beulah Edwards.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are three sons, Clifford Gillam
and wife Barbara of Union, Mo., Bill Evans and wife Cheryl and Dennis
Evans, all of DeSoto, Mo.; one brother Radis Skaggs and wife Norma of
Viburnum, Mo., two sisters, Lorene Riggs of Cherryville, Mo. and Gerene
Coleman of Pevely, Mo.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Austin and Betty Gillam of St. Charles,
Mo., Arvil and Deloris Gillam of DeSoto, Mo., Audie Gillam of Viburnum,
Mo., Geraldine Johnson of Maplewood, Mo., Norma and Richard Wall of Fenton,
Mo., Barbara and Terrence McDonald of Redbud, Illinois, Frieda and Joey
Treadway of Union, Mo., Verneda and Ronnie Eye of Potosi, Mo., and Nina
Skaggs, High Ridge, Mo.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Franklin Ellis Evans lay in state 4-8 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the
Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m.
Friday, June 29, 2001 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Donald Golden
officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery, Viburnum, Mo.
Pallbearers were Joe Cardillo, Terrence McDonald, Glenn Ottomeyer, Ken
Riggs, Don Skaggs and Marvin Skaggs. Arrangements were under the direction
of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Billy Joe Hibler
Billy Joe Hibler, of Ballwin, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Barnes Jewish
Hospital in St. Louis. He was 54 years old.
He was born March 21, 1947, in Jefferson City, Mo., a son of Melvin E. and
Mary Milton Hibler. He married Catherine Surwillo, and she survives.
In addition to his wife Catherine; he is also survived by step-daughters,
Danielle Lisa Blassie and her husband Shawn, and Amanda Wheeler and her
husband Brian; one daughter, Heather Cason, Owensville; one sister Judy
Bollmann; one brother Tom Hibler; and three grandchildren, Caitlyn, Cody
and Brady.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Hibler Miller.
Mr. Hibler was a member of the Owensville VFW Post #6133, the Owensville
Lions Club, the Refractory Glass Society, and the Owensville Fire
Department. He was an honorary member of the Karamos. He was a former Mayor
of Owensville and he was the plant manager at Emhart Glass, where he worked
for 30 years.
Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, at
Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville. Funeral services were held at
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 3. Burial was at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 5, at
the Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis.
Arrangements were under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in
Owensville.
Jack Leroy Johnston
Jack Leroy Johnston, son of the late Everett P. and Thelma (Smith)
Johnston, was born March 16, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo. and entered into rest
July 8, 2001, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 22 days.
Jack was united in marriage to Joyce Kaufmann on September 12, 1959, and to
this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his
parents.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; two sons, Chris Johnston and wife, Pam
of Desoto, Mo. and Paul Johnston and wife, Angela of St. James, Mo., one
daughter, Kelly Cooper and husband, Doug of Cornith, Texas, one brother,
James Johnston and wife, Carol of St. Louis, Mo., one sister Muriel Jamison
and husband, Gordon, of St. Louis, Mo., five grandchildren: Amy, Rebecca,
Nicholas and Hunter Johnston and Sarah Cooper.
Jack was a Nuclear Power Plant Inspector working nationwide before retiring
to enjoy his love of golf and woodworking. He was a loving and devoted
husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed
by all those who knew and loved him.
Funeral service for Jack Leroy Johnston was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July
11, 2001 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla, Mo., with Pastor Gerald
Wittmaier officiating. Interment was in the St. James Cemetery, St. James,
Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Nicholas Johnston, Mike Johnston, Scott
Jamison, Jeff Yonkus, Pat Yonkus, Mike Stulce and Henry Davis. Music will
be provided by June Edwards as the organist and Julie Bell as the vocalist.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 10, 2001, 6-9 p.m. at the James & Gahr
Chapel, Rolla, Mo.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials to the Redeemer
Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. Cards will be available at
the funeral home. All arrangements are under the direction of James & Gahr
Mortuary, Rolla, Mo.
Robert J. Sharp, Jr.
Robert J. Sharp, Jr. of Bourbon, Mo. passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2001
at the age of 61 years.
Mr. Sharp was born on November 6, 1939 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Doris
(Adkins) Sharp Flanagan and the late Robert J. Sharp, Sr. In his youth
Robert moved to Arkansas, and eventually to St. Clair, Mo. in 1960. On May
28, 1957 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and honorably served
his country until May 1963.
On February 11, 1961 he was united in marriage to Sandra Suender in East
St. Louis, Illinois. Robert worked as a carpenter for over 28 years in
bridge construction. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #1839 of
St. Louis, as well as a member of the V.F.W. Post in St. Clair and the Elks
Lodge #2651 in St. Clair.
Robert was baptized through the ministry of the Anaconda Baptist Church. It
was not until November 2000 that he moved along with his wife to Bourbon.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends, and especially found
pleasure in barbecuing and frying fish for the V.F.W. activities. He will
be remembered and cherished as an outgoing and fun-loving person who was
well known for being a tease and a prankster.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Sharp of Bourbon; two daughters, Valerie
Wakefield and husband, Travis of Hollister, Mo. and Robyn Bishop of St.
Clair, Mo.; his mother, Doris Flanagan and his stepfather, Glen Flanagan of
Hollister; one step-brother, Glen "Butch" Flanagan of Kansas City, Mo.; two
sisters, Patsy Lumos of St. Clair and Dorothy Bennett and husband, Bill of
High Ridge, Mo.; four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and
friends. In addition to his father, Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by one
sister, Phyllis Sharp.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2001 from
the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Dr. Philip E. Turner
officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery with full military
honors.
Jeffrey Brent Weber
Jeffrey Brent Weber of Pacific, Mo., was born on November 27, 1961 at
Sullivan, Mo. and passed away suddenly on June 30, 2001 at the St. John's
Mercy Hospital, Washington, Mo. at the age of 39 years, 7 months and 3
days.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Pat Weber.
He was united in marriage to Verena Williams in St. Louis, Mo. and one
daughter, Jessie, was born to this union.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife
Verena Weber; one daughter Jessie Weber; father Larry Weber and friend
Donna; mother-in-law Gerhild Williams; father-in-law Larry Williams; uncles
Larry Harmon and wife Carole, Harry Harmon and wife Judy, Dennis Harmon and
wife Sharon; aunts Mary Lewis and husband Randall and Karleen Gauger and
husband David; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Jeff was a loving husband, father, son, nephew, good friend to all who knew
him and will be sadly missed.
Jeffrey Brent Weber was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at 2 p.m. with
Rev. Mike Hannah officiating.
Interment was in the Mounts Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under
the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Arthur Garfield Whitworth, Jr.
Arthur Garfield Whitworth, Jr. of Bourbon, Mo. was born in his
grandmother's log house on January 24, 1911 at Grubville, Mo. to the union
of Arthur Garfield Whitworth and Lulu J. Whitworth nee Perkins and passed
away on July 3, 2001 at Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 90 years, 5 months and
9 days. At one point they moved to St. Louis and Aunt Jenny remembered them
playing in Lafayette Park.
On March 24, 1942 Art was united in marriage to Bernadine Suttmueller in
St. Louis, Mo. One son, Robert, was born to this union. They were happily
married over 50 years until Bernie preceded Art in death on October 8,
1994.
Art was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister Ruth Spurgeon.
He was a veteran serving in the Army in France, Germany and England during
World War II, an active member of the Bourbon American Legion, retired
teamster from Brown Shoe Company and he had also been a Boy Scout.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life is one son Robert T.
Whitworth and wife Cathy; one grandson Thomas B. Whitworth; one brother
Russell Whitworth and wife Ruth; one sister Virginia Whitworth; nieces;
nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Art was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, good
friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Arthur "Art" Garfield Whitworth, Jr. was in state at the Eaton Chapel,
Bourbon, Mo. where funeral services were held on Friday, July 6, 2001 at 11
a.m. with Rev. Jerry Douglas officiating. Interment was in Jefferson
Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. on Monday, July 9, 2001 at 11
a.m. Memorials to Bourbon American Legion. All arrangements under the
direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
