Edath Marie Brand Ackfeld
Edath Marie Brand Ackfeld of Cuba, Missouri was born to James W. and Anne
Lee (Grooms) Gilliam on May 16, 1918 in Huzzah, Missouri and passed away
Friday, July 9, 2010 at her home at the age of 92 years.
Edath worked many years for the Cuba Shoe Factory and Convay Heel Company.
She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of the
Lunch Bunch. She enjoyed flowers, quilting, embroidery work, cooking and
spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anne Gilliam; two
husbands, Everett Brand and Joseph Ackfeld; one son, Everett “Ron” Brand;
one daughter, Janet Wilhite; two grandchildren, Thomas and Jeania Brand;
three sisters, Anita Blair, Rebel Gilliam and Betty Jo Cameron; three
brothers, Albert Henry Gilliam, Audrey G. Gilliam and James A. Gilliam, Sr.;
other relatives and friends.
She is survived by two sons, James and wife Mary Ann Brand of Cuba, Missouri
and Richard and wife Judy Brand of Springfield, Missouri; one brother,
Ralph Gilliam of Bellview, Washington; two sisters, Madeline Henry of
Rolla, Missouri and Helen Tiberghien of Imperial, Missouri; 11 grandchildren,
21 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, July 12, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at Britton
Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday,
July 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father James
Finder as the Celebrant.
Interment followed at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Walter Thomas Bates
Walter Thomas Bates of Rolla, Missouri, was born in Lecoma, Missouri on
August 9, 1922 to John and Annie (Finn) Bates and passed away at the Phelps
County Regional Medical Center on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the age of 87
years.
In 1965 he married Inez Kirk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Bates; wife Inez on
December 2, 2008; four brothers, Charlie, John and Tony Bates and infant
brother Herbert Bates.
He is survived by four children, Jimmy Bates and wife Patricia of St. James,
Missouri, Steve Bates of Chicago, Illinois, Beverly Flowers and companion
Frank Bolmer of Calumet City, Illinois and Debbie Workman of Hammond,
Illinois; one sister, Dora Heavin of Edgar Springs, Missouri; 10 grand-
children, Cynthia, Robert, Angie, Teri, Donna, Carlene, Joseph, Jason,
Joshua and Steven; many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Null & Son
Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Null &
Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri with Rev. Larry Davis officiating.
Interment followed in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rolla,
Missouri.

Gail Eugene Biggs
Gail Eugene Biggs of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Sligo, Missouri, was born
on Tuesday, December 7, 1926 in Max, Missouri to James Everett and Johnnie
Mae Ball Biggs and passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010 at St. Luke’s
Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 26 days.
Gail graduated from Cherryville High School in 1945 and married F. Susan
Brown on February 8, 1958 at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri
and to this union two sons were born.
He moved to St. Louis where he joined the staff at Emerson Electric as an
instructor. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean
Conflict and was honorably discharged after overseas service in Japan. He
then returned to Emerson and later joined McDonnell Douglas in 1963 as an
electronic technician for the manned space program and military fighter
aircraft.
He attended Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from
Ranken Technical College. In 1991, he retired and moved to Crawford County.
He enjoyed traveling, cruising, genealogy, spending time with family and
watching the Cardinals play baseball. He also, co-authored “William Biggs
and His Descendants from 1640-1997” and “The Families of Gehazi Ransom Ball,
His Ancestors and Descendants from 1640-1997” with his wife. He was proud to
have descended from a long line of American patriots. He was a member of the
Webster Groves Masonic Lodge #84, Boone Society, and Holland America’s
Mariner Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Johnnie Biggs; infant
sister, Margerite Biggs; father-in-law, John G. Brown; mother-in-law,
Neva V. Wilkinson Brown; sister-in-law, Kathryn Midyett; brother-in-law,
Vondel Butts; niece, Karen Biggs, Evelyn Thomure, and Diana Biggs.
He is survived by his wife, F. Susan Biggs of Cuba, Missouri; sons,
Steven E. (Vicki) Biggs of Eureka, Missouri and Scott C. (Stacy) Biggs of
Steelville, Missouri; brothers, Kenneth (Anna Mae) Biggs of Overland,
Missouri, J. Orin (Clarinda) Biggs of Steelville, Missouri and Daniel
(Carlena) Biggs of Salem, Missouri; sister, Lorene Butts of O’Fallon,
Missouri; grandchildren, Loire, Abby, Nathaniel and Jenna Biggs;
sister-in-law, Shirley Brown of Cuba, Missouri; brother-in-law, Robert
Midyett of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. with Masonic Service
at 7 p.m. and funeral service on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at
Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson
officiating.
Burial was at the Stone Hill Cemetery, Salem, Missouri with full military
honors.
Pallbearers were Richard Butts, Steve, Scott, Kenneth, J.Orin and Daniel
Biggs.

Casey Gene Bone
Casey Gene Bone of Steelville, Missouri was born on Thursday,
September 18, 2003 at Sullivan, Missouri to George T. Bone and
Leslie A. Bone and passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the age of
6 years, 9 months and 22 days.
Casey recently completed Kindergarten at Steelville Elementary School.
He enjoyed the river, swimming, fishing, playing with cars and boats.
He was preceded in death by his great grandfather, Francis Brendel.
He is survived by his mother, Leslie A. Bone; father, Craig Mason;

Darrell Bryce Cottrell
Darrell Bryce Cottrell was born October 24, 1929 in Dillard, Missouri to
Arlie and Carrie (Turnbough) Cottrell and passed away Monday, May 24, 2010
in Anaheim, California at the age of 80 years.
He married Saundra (Sandy) McClintock on May 10, 1958 in St. Louis,
Missouri.
He worked for Electra Motors Anaheim, California from 1967 to his
retirement in 2006.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven in 2001 and a sister, Hazel
Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, David and wife Laurina Cottrell
of Templeton, California; daughters, Carol and husband Patrick Gardella
of Annapolis, Maryland and Cathy and husband Chris Grim of Orange County,
California; grandchildren, Brooke Cottrell, Blake Cottrell, Taylor
Cottrell, Devin Gardella, Callie Gardella, Garron Grim and Kate Grim;
brothers, Glenn Cottrell and wife Betty of Hixon, Tennessee and Vernon
Cottrell and wife Jerrie of Monroe, Louisiana; other relatives and
friends.
A memorial service was held at The Yorba Linda United Methodist Church on
June 5, 2010 at 11 a.m.
Darrell R. Dotson
Darrell R. Dotson of Sullivan, Missouri was born on July 11, 1947 in Oak
Hill, Missouri to William Daniel and Mary Parthena (Pyatt) Dotson and
passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the age of 62 years, 11 months
and 25 days.
He was a man who enjoyed a variety of life’s many experiences. He enjoyed
spending time with his family and his two life long buddies, Dennis and
Ernie, who had many “outings” and fishing experiences. Darrell enjoyed
the outdoors whether it was gardening, mowing the grass, boating, fishing,
or watching ball games. And who can forget the yard sales, from which he
supplied all of his family and friends with treasures. He meant a lot of
different things to many people, but what all have in common, and will be
remembered, were his honest words of wisdom, a helping hand, and a
generous heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary P. (Pyatt)
Dotson.
He is survived by his children from his first marriage, Darren Dotson and
Cindy Francis (Dotson); one daughter from his second marriage, Tricha
Cassidy nee Dotson and husband Scott Cassidy; four step children;
grandchildren; great grandchildren; eight sisters, Peggy Names Shah,
Connie Smith, Verna Gruver, Rosalie Littrell, Lula Doyle, Linda Dotson,
Pam Simpson and Geri Schuster; two brothers, Daniel Dotson and Marcus
Dotson; other relatives and friends.

Mabel E. Frost
Mabel E. Frost of O’Fallon, Missouri, formerly of Bourbon, Missouri, was born
on October 12, 1920 at Fredericktown, Missouri to Frank and Grace (Murray)
Berry and passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the age of 89 years.
She was raised in St. Louis, Missouri and on May 22, 1949 was married to
Leo J. Frost and to this marriage a son was born.
Mabel and Leo came to the Bourbon area upon his retirement where they
attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mabel enjoyed playing Bridge
and gardening in her free time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Grace Berry; her
husband, Leo in 2001 and three sisters, Marie Froehlich, Jean Schrader
and Loraine McClendon.
She is survived by a son, Jim Frost and wife Florence of O’Fallon, Missouri;
two grandchildren, James and Jeffery Frost; five great grandchildren,
Stephanie Frost, James Frost III, Daniel Frost, Margaret Frost and
Maxwell Frost; one great great grandchild, Gavin Collins; a brother,
Lee Berry of St. Charles, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Private family services were held Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. from
the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.

Lorraine Sue Brake Green
Lorraine Sue Brake Green of Belle, Missouri formerly of Sullivan, Missouri
was born at Sullivan on October 21, 1951 to Howard and Julia (Dunakey) Brake
and passed in Columbia, Missouri on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the age of
58 years.
Sue, as she was known by her family and friends attended Sullivan School and
at the age of nine worked as a dispatcher for Dan’s Taxi in Sullivan. She
later worked at I-44 Truck Stop as a cashier where she met her first
husband,
Earl W. Simmerly. They were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony
on September 10, 1972 at New Testament Baptist Church by Pastor Oliver Mullen.
They made their home in various parts of the country while Earl was serving
with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Sue enjoyed the hobby of a beautician hair stylist attending Weekes Beauty
Academy in Sullivan and having her own business later on. She was saved in
the Southern Baptist Church at Leasburg, Missouri and attended First Baptist
Church in Bourbon.
Four years ago in June, Sue was united in marriage to Donald Barry Green in
Belle, Missouri and enjoyed spending time with her step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Julia Brake; two
brothers, Lawrence and Lanie Brake and two sisters, Levina Brake and
Lenora Brake Hults.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Green; two sons, Jesse Simmerly of
Bourbon, Missouri and Jeffrey Simmerly of St. James, Missouri; two
brothers, Leroy Brake of Columbia, Missouri and Lynn Brake of Sullivan,
Missouri; three sisters, Leola Brake Littrell of Owensville, Missouri, Lois
Judy Brake Gronstall of Ozone, Arkansas and Leona Jean Brake Heitland, Lake
Mills, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from
the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Michael Delashmet officiating.
Interment was in the Buffalo Cemetery.

Gary Lee Norris
Gary Lee Norris of Valley Park, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri on
July 1, 1958 to Joseph Sr. and Doris (Mathena) Norris and passed away
July 3, 2010 at his home at the age of 52 years.
Gary was born into a large family with 10 children where there was always
someone to play with and later you always knew “someone had your back.”
Gary was injured in a swimming accident at the age of 18 that left him
disabled. But for Gary that wouldn’t work, he learned life is what you make
it, so that’s what he did. He loved working on cars, country music and
spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Norris Sr. and sisters,
Robin Norris and Sharon Ball.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Norris of Kirkwood, Missouri; twin
sister, Terry Norris of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Carl Norris and wife
Janice of Lebanon, Missouri, Ron Norris and wife Pat of Cedar Hill,
Missouri, Roger Norris of Fenton, Missouri; sisters, Maxine Donaldson and
husband Frank of Dallas, Texas, Vivian Lea of Marissa, Illinois, Joann

Lyle Wallace Pace
Lyle Wallace Pace of Cuba, Missouri was born to Onice E. and Delia
(Minnick) Pace on June 3, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and passed away
Sunday, July 4, 2010 at his home at the age of 80 years.
Lyle was united in marriage to Dolores A. “Dolly” Maxwell on June 10, 1950
in Creve Coeur, Missouri and to this union four children were born.
Lyle retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1984 after 34 years of dedicated
service as an Airplane Mechanic. He was known to always help others whether
it be with a vehicle, building a home or whatever someone else needed.
In his spare time he enjoyed gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Onice E. and Delia Pace; wife,
Dolores Pace; sister, Dee Holzum; son-in-law, Roland Woodard; other
relatives and friends.
He is survived by four children, Daniel L. and wife Nancy Pace of Ballwin,
Missouri and Rex Allan and wife Sami Pace of Labadie, Missouri, Gwen Woodard
and Laurie Jane and husband Bruce Setter, both of Cuba, Missouri; two
brothers, Bill Pace of Missouri and Gene and wife Edith Pace of Valley

Alvina M. Penning
Alvina M. Penning of Cuba, Missouri was born June 26, 1926 in Crawford
County, Missouri near Pucky Huddle to Ray Setzer and Gladys (Skaggs) Setzer
and passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at her home at the age of
84 years.
In June of 1946 in St. Louis, she was united in marriage to Clarence “Bud”
Edward Penning.
As a little girl, her mother passed away and special aunt, Artie Skaggs
helped raise her.
Alvina worked as a hairdresser in St. Louis for many years and later moved
to Cuba where she owned and operated her own beauty shop at Indian Hills.
She was very active at Cuba in Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary.
She always looked forward to her class reunions and former classmates
always enjoyed hearing the past history of the area. Alvina enjoyed fishing
and was an excellent cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Gladys Setzer; her step
mother, Freida Stotler; her husband, “Bud” Penning on March 28, 1987; one
brother, Charles Setzer; brother-in-law, Marvin Andrews and one grandson,
Keith Penning.
She is survived by three sons, Pete Penning and wife Kathy of Tampa,
Florida, Denny Penning and wife Debbie of Hazelwood, Missouri and Bill
Penning of Cuba, Missouri; one brother, Ray Setzer and wife Melba of
Portland, Oregon; one sister, Doris Andrews of Cuba, Missouri; six
grandchildren, Amy Gustafson and husband Sean of Orlando, Florida, David
Penning and wife Karen, Scott Penning and wife Jody, Pat Penning and wife
Courtney, Chris Penning and Brad Penning, all of St. Louis, Missouri;
eight great grandchildren, Chelsea Penning, Logan and Paige Gustafson, Mandy
and Courtney Penning, Haley, Hannah and Scottie Penning; other relatives

Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010 with
a V.F.W Auxiliary service held at 1:30 p.m. at the Britton-Bennett Funeral
Home in Steelville, Missouri.
A funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the Britton-
Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Farr officiating. Special music of
“Precious Memories” and “Mountain Railroad” was sang and played by Stanley
and Velma Martin. Other music of “Amazing Grace” and “Go Rest High” was
also played. Special family memories were shared by son, Denny Penning.
Interment was at the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

Edna M. Plank
Edna M. Plank of Sullivan, Missouri was born May 26, 1931 in St. Louis,
Missouri, and later adopted by Roy Lee and Julia Mae Rumfelt and passed away
on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the age of 79 years.
On November 15, 1951 she was united in marriage to William Clarence Plank
at Salem, Arkansas and six children were born to their union.
William passed away and Edna later married her very special friend, James
Flock.
Edna moved to Sullivan in 1972 and enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting.
She love family get-togethers and made it her passion to make each event
memorable.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Julia Rumfelt; her husband,
Clarence Plank; one brother, Donald Freeman; two sisters, Bonnie Bunton and
Dorothy Freeman; a grandson, Dale Lunsford, Jr. and a great granddaughter,
Aryen Lunsford.
She is survived by her husband, James Flock of the family home; three sons,
Dennis Plank and wife, Gloria of Houston, Texas, Frank Plank of Bonne Terre,
Missouri, and Richard Plank and wife, Jessica of Nixa, Missouri; three
daughters, Evelyn Turnbough and husband, Delbert of Steelville, Missouri,
Beverly Lunsford and husband, Dale, Sr. of Steelville, Missouri and Connie
Negretti of Sullivan, Missouri; one brother, Harvey Freeman of Sullivan,
Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; other relatives and

Visitation was held on Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral
Home in Sullivan, Missouri.

Steelville, Missouri at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010 with Michael
Delashmit officiating. A time of visitaton began at 9 a.m. until time of
service. Special music of “Softly and Tenderly,”?“Just a Closer Walk” and
“Go Rest High”?was played.
Burial was in the Carr Masonic Cemetery in Cook Station, Missouri.

Franklin D. Richardson
Franklin D. Richardson of Bourbon, Missouri was born on Tuesday,
December 23, 1924 in Viburnum, Missouri to William Harvey Richardson and
Eula Ellen Denney Richardson and passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at
the age of 85 years, 6 months and 13 days.
Frank served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII.
He attended Steelville High School for three years then served in the
military, and later returned to Steelville and completed his last year of
High School.
He married Ocklea Moran in Denver, Colorado on October 31, 1953 and to
this union three children were born.
He was a truck driver for ICX Freight Company and later Consolidated
Freight Way before retirement. Frank accepted the Lord as his Savior and
was baptized at Lifeline Baptist Church, Rolla, Missouri. He was a lifetime
member of the VFW Post 3987, Sullivan, Missouri. He loved to fish, watch
western movies, and reminisce about the past.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eula Richardson; wife,
Ocklea; stepson, Lowell Hines; sister, Ida (Chester) Maloon; brother,
William Herman Richardson and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his children, Patrick Lee (Susan) Richardson of Midwest
City, Oklahoma, Shirley Dee (James) Voorhies of Central City, Colorado,
and Ellen Kay (Jeff) Arth of Lakeville, Minnesota; stepchildren Brenda
(Carl) Thompson of Hillsboro, Ohio and Gregory (Alice) Hines of Checotah,
Oklahoma; sister, Alice (Reid) Stephens of Bourbon, Missouri; nephew,
William Stough of Longmont, CO; brother-in-law, Preston Moran and

George Raymond Sagehorn
George Raymond Sagehorn of Cuba, Missouri was born on Wednesday,
July 17, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to George Sebastian Sagehorn and Rose
Langeneckert Sagehorn and passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 at the age
of 80 years, 11 months and 18 days.
He served his country honorably in the United States Navy.
He married Alice Mae Johnson on November 5, 1947 in Pocahontas, Arkansas
and to this union five children were born.
He retired from Brown Shoe Company where he worked as a purchasing agent
out of the Clayton Corporate office. He was a member of the Knights of
Columbus. His hobbies were woodworking and leather making.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rose Sagehorn and
brothers, Leonard and Howard Sagehorn.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Sagehorn of Cuba, Missouri; children,
Gregory (Dawn) Sagehorn of Ballwin, Missouri, Steven (Monica) Sagehorn
