Rhonda Kay Davis
Rhonda Kay Davis of Ballwin, Missouri formerly of Steelville, Missouri was
born on Friday, November 10, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri to Henry “Jack”
Oliver Davis and Zelma Elizabeth Walker Davis. She passed away on Friday,
July 11, 2008 at the age of 63 years, 8 months, and 1 day.
Rhonda was a member of the Lafayette Bible Baptist Church in St. Louis,
Missouri. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and cleaning house.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lester (Thelma)
Davis, Curtis (Betty) Davis, and Jim (Norma) Davis; two sisters, Eunice
Rogers and Evelyn (Clyde) Wright.
She is survived by her brother William “Bill” Davis of Houston, Texas; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri. Funeral was Monday, July 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating.
Burial at Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Homer Sherman Hewkin
Homer Sherman Hewkin, of Davisville, Missouri was born July 9, 1926 to Silas
and Clella (Greenwood) Hewkin in Madisonville, Illinois. He passed away on
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Gibbs Care in Steelville, Missouri at the age of
82 years.
In December of 1979, he married Virginia “Leora” (Brown) Pyatt.
Homer taught elementary education in the Steelville area. He worked as a
certified welder at McDonnell Douglas, Westinghouse and Todd Shipyards.
He was a faithful and long-time member of the Center Ridge Pentecostal Church.
He loved to play the piano and sing gospel music.
Homer enjoyed sitting in his rocker on the front porch or his rocker in the
living room for hours at a time. Many will remember him enjoying the fried
chicken at the church dinners and him visiting the deli at the local grocery
store.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Buster Hewkin,
Donald Hewkin and Rodney Hewkin; two sisters, Eloyse Garms and Naomi Bolls;
two sisters-in-law, Ruby Hewkin and Lucille Brown Turnbough
He is survived by his wife, Leora; two sons, Michael Hewkin and wife Cathy
and Daniel Hewkin and wife Monica, all of Cuba, Missouri; two daughters,
Faith Derennaux and husband Duane of Steelville, Missouri and Joan Mahurin
and husband Terry of Cuba, Missouri; three step-children, Gail Green and
husband Bob of Cherryville, Missouri, Troy Pyatt and wife Sharon of Cuba,
Missouri and Roy Pyatt and wife Donna of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers,
Jim Hewkin and wife Marilyn of Cuba, Missouri and Lenny Hewkin of Steelville,
Missouri; two sisters, Darlene Cape and husband Jim of Cuba, Missouri and
Collene Woolbright and husband Glen of Manchester, Missouri; 14 grandchildren,
Dustin Derennax and wife Shelly, Marissa Club and husband Shane, Allison
Derennaux and companion Wil Eilert, Matt, Gabe and Savannah Mahurin, Kayla,
Cheyenne and Jeremy Hewkin, Shawn Green and wife Diane, Natasha Green, Seth
Green, Travis Pyatt and fiancé Holly Cunningham and Tyler Pyatt; seven great
grandchildren, Trevor, Tristen and Josie Club, Marley Eilert, Abigail
Derennaux, Rachelle and Levi Green; six sisters-in-law, Vera Hewkin of Florida,
June Hewkin of St. Louis, Missouri, Shirley Hewkin of Rolla, Missouri, Bonnie
Martin and husband Henry and Josephine Burris and husband James, all of
Davisville, Missouri and Carol Coleman and husband Bob of Cherryville,
Missouri; five brothers-in-law, Jay Garms of Steelville, Missouri, Joe Brown
of Steelville, Missouri, Dwayne Brown and wife Cathy of Davisville, Missouri
and Dwight Brown and wife Betty and Harrison Brown and wife Shirley, all of
Cherryville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Pastor Harrison Brown and Rev. Bob Coleman
officiating. Music selections of “O How I Love Jesus” and a gospel medley were
sang by Bob and Carol Coleman with Bob Coleman playing guitar and Shirley
Brown on piano. The song “Written in Red” was sung by Darlene Cape, Jim and
Lenny Hewkin with Darlene Cape on piano.
Scripture was read by Pastor Harrison Brown and Rev. Bob Coleman closed with
prayer. The congregation sang “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.” Interment was in the
Turnbough Cemetery in Davisville, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
Jerry D. Long, Jr.
Jerry D. Long, Jr. of Okeechobee, Florida was born in St. Louis, Missouri and
was a resident of Okeechobee for five years after moving from Steelville,
Missouri. He passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Treasure Coast Hospice
in Fort Pierce, Florida at the age of 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Laura Long; grandparents, Juhl Long,
Ralph Long, Norman A. Gerren and William R. Cosak.
He is survived by his mother, Yvonne LaMee of Okeechobee, Florida; father,
Jerry D. Long of Steelville, Missouri; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Long of Canada;
brother, Michael A. Long of St. Louis, Missouri; step children, David, Jason,
Josh and Christa Finley, all of Steelville, Missouri; sister, Rae Janine Long
of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grandmother, Virginia U. Riordan of Okeechobee,
Florida.
Service was July 11, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Okeechobee,
Florida.
Arrangements under the direction of the All County Funeral Home & Crematory
Treasure Coast Chapel.
Lynn Mace
Lynn Mace of Rolla, Missouri was born to the union of Zachariah C. and Edna E.
(Brown) Mace on Thursday, January 25, 1934 in Edgar Springs, Missouri and
passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 74 years,
5 months and 16 days.
Lynn was united in marriage to Charlene V. Hell in Lebanon, Missouri on
August 20, 1955 and to this union three children were born.
He spent most of his adult life in the grocery business having owned and
operated Mace Stores in Rolla (1956-1961), Cuba (1961-1969) and Steelville
(1984-1989). For a short period of time he owned and operated the Western Auto
Store in Cuba and was a Salesman for Treece Chevrolet in Cuba. He later
returned to the grocery business having helped in various capacities until
his retirement in 1998.
In his spare time he enjoyed a good game of golf, an excellent meal, following
the sport of baseball, football and basketball. But most of all Lynn enjoyed
all of the time he spent visiting with his family and friends, because as we
all know, Lynn was not shy for words.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister-in-law, Norma Mace;
other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; two sons, Pastor Gary and wife
Sharon Mace of Cuba, Missouri, Charles and wife Jennifer Mace of Cincinnati,
Ohio; one daughter, Susan and husband Russell Caton of Rolla, Missouri;
one brother, Carroll Mace of Rolla, Missouri; five grandchildren, Eric Mace
of Temecula, California, Brad Mace of Cuba, Missouri, Emily Jones of Rolla,
Missouri, Katie and Caroline Mace of Cincinnati, Ohio; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 1:30-3 p.m. at Britton Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was Sunday, July 13, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home
with Pastor Gary Mace officiating and special music provided by Brad Mace,
Josh Brown, Melinda Medlock and Paula Herrell.
Pallbearers were Randy, Jim, Greg and Brad Mace, Russell Caton and John
Hewkin.
Interment in Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Lennie Richard Morrison
Lennie Richard Morrison, of St. Clair, Missouri, formerly of Cherryville,
Missouri was born in Cherryville, Missouri on December 1, 1921 to Raymond
and Marcena (Martin) Morrison and he passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 at
his home at the age of 86 years.
On October 5, 1946 he married Alma (Hill) Morrison who preceded him in death
in 2007.
Lennie was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in St. Clair, Missouri.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 575 of St. Clair, Missouri and
had been chaplain for the past several years.
He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII from 1941 to 1945.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Lloyd Morrison and
Rainey Morrison; one sister, Naomi Richardson and two brothers-in-law,
Claude Richardson and Cliff Thompson.
He is survived by one son, Gary Morrison and wife Iness of Villa Ridge,
Missouri; one step-son, Howard Craig of Ohio; one brother, Claude Morrison
and wife Mary of Hot Springs, Arkansas; three sisters, Irene McKinley of
Steelville, Missouri, Norma Duke of Arnold, Missouri and Mary Ann Thompson
of Eugene, Missouri who passed away the day after her brother; two
grandchildren, Gary Richard Morrison Jr. of Union, Missouri and Laura Gail
Morrison of Astoria, New York; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Britton-Bennett
Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Thomas Smith
officiating. Special music of “Precious Memories” and “Lord, I’m Coming Home”
were played.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville,
Missouri.
Casket bearers were Gary Morrison, Walter Wiseman, Eric Schrimpf, Rick
Morrison, Ray Morrison and David Duke.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home
of Steelville, Missouri.
Kenneth Lee Nickles
Kenneth Lee Nickles, Sr. of Steelville, Missouri was born on January 15, 1937
in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to James Isaac Nickles and Evelyn Mae Handley Nickles.
He passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the age of 71 years, 5 months,
and 22 days.
Kenneth married Barbara Marie Moore on November 5, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri
and to this union four children were born.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was previously
employed at the Chrysler Plant in Fenton, Missouri where he was a past
president of the UAW Local #136. He attended classes at Oklahoma University
concerning labor law.
Before retiring from Chrysler, he started Afton Security Business and later
served as VP of Guardian Security in Steelville, Missouri. He was a member
of the Walker Roney American Legion Post #99 in Salem, Missouri and first
degree member of the Masonic Lodge in Salem, Missouri.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending his children and grandchildren’s
activities. Kenneth accepted the Lord many years ago at Mount Pleasant
Baptist Church in Salem, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Bill Nickles, brother-in-
law Norman Turnquist; two grandchildren Isaac and Isaiah Nickles.
He is survived by his wife; children, Kenneth Lee Nickles Jr. and wife
Sonya, and Lisa Nickles, all of Steelville, Missouri and Bridgette Inman of
Ozark, Missouri; brothers, Jim (Sherry) Nickles and Ronnie (Wanda) Nickles,
all of Salem, Missouri and Steve (Pat) Nickles of Nixa, Missouri; sisters,
Christine (Alton) Fields, and Lilly (Bob) Fields, all of Hillsboro,
Missouri, Sally (Fred) Oestreich of Valparaiso, Indiana and Evelyn (Ray)
Swiney of Salem, Missouri.
Daughter-in-law, Eileen Nickles of Marthasville, Missouri; brothers and
sisters-in-law Carl (Sylvia) Moore, Margaret Ura, and Pat Turnquist, all
of St. Louis, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 4-9 p.m. and funeral was
Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 11 a.m with Bro. Steve Nickles officiating at
Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Burial at Steelville Cemetery with full military honors.

Missouri.
Kornye Elizabeth Pilger
Kornye Elizabeth Pilger nee Howard of Steelville, Missouri was born on
Wednesday, April 11, 1917 in Steelville, Missouri to John Howard and Grace
Lilly Edwards Howard. She passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Gibbs
Care Center, Steelville, Missouri at the age of 91 years, 2 months, and
27 days.
She married Lawrence Vernon Pilger on November 1, 1938 in Rolla, Missouri.
They lived in Pacific for 32 years where she was a member of the Pacific
Chapter #129 of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 1970, Kornye moved to
Steelville to be closer to family after her husband passed away. During
that time she worked at Farmers Union Mercantile for five years and U Save
Mart for 12 years. She was a member of the Steelville First Assembly of God
Church.
Her hobbies were gardening, yardwork, canning, sewing, visiting and caring
for people. She especially enjoyed spending time with her nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Goldie
(Everett) Ray, Katie (Charlie) Bobbitt, and Hallie Spurgeon; nephew, Bill
Spurgeon and brother-in-law, Guy Riney.
She is survived by niece, Valerie Spurgeon Barrett and husband Dennis; great
nieces, Rachel Nevills, all of Lafayette, Indiana and Leah Nevills of Terlton,
Oklahoma; special cousin and friend, Virginia Mae Halbert and special friend,
Sheila Bradbury, all of Steelville, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Lucille Riney
of Mexico, Missouri and Edna Pilger of Perryville, Missouri; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. and funeral Friday,
July 11, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Burial at Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Gladys O. Rice
Gladys O. Rice of Memphis, Tennessee, was born March 28, 1919 in Cuba,
Missouri to James L. and Laura Maude Naugle and passed away Tuesday,
July 8, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
She married James Rice on May 13, 1943 in Cuba, Missouri.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Edith
King, Estelle Johnson and Edna Tompkins.
She is survived by a son, James and wife Linda Rice of Memphis, Tennessee;
daughter, Nancy and husband Clifford Royal of Hockley, Texas and sister,
Ruth Hines, St. Charles, Missouri.
Visitation was Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at the Miller Funeral
Home, Washington, Missouri. Funeral service was Monday, July 14, 2008
at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Washington, Washington, Missouri
with Rev. Bill Vincent officiating. Burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba,
Missouri.
Barbara Jean Ripley
Barbara Jean Ripley of Cuba, Missouri, was born August 20, 1945 in St. Louis,
Missouri to Edward and Virginia (Ebler) Gray and she passed away Thursday,
July 3, 2008 at the age of 62 years.
She honorably served her country in the United States Air Force as a First
Lieutenant. She was a registered nurse and worked in various hospitals
throughout the area which included Scott Air Force Base, Fitzsimmons Air
Force Base, Meramec Nursing Center and Missouri Baptist Hospital.
She found enjoyment in flower gardening and loved animals of all kinds. She
was an avid baseball Cardinal fan and would crochet and do needlepoint in
her free time. She also was an accomplished painter and had painted many
animal headstones in the pet cemetery on the family property.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan, of the family home; four children,
Angela Stanley and husband Ken of Washington, Missouri; Michael D. Ripley
of Owensville, Missouri, Jennifer Ripley of Sullivan, Missouri and Scott T.
Ripley and wife Heather of Owensville, Missouri; seven grandchildren;
sister, Shirley Blalock and husband Gene of North Richland Hills, Texas;
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from the
Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Tim
McCarty officiating.
Interment with full military honors was held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday,
July 8, 2008 in the National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis,
Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home,
Sullivan, Missouri.
