MO Local Obituaries for the Week of July 17, 2019 Frederocl "Fred" Olden Barr Frederick "Fred" Olden Barr of Salem, Missouri was born in Aberdeen, Maryland on Sunday, April 1, 1951 to Clarence "Jack" Leroy and Vivian Eunice Marie Earney Barr and passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 9 days. Fred's father was in the military so he and his family lived in various states before moving to Steelville, Missouri from California in the early 60's. Fred grew up in Steelville and lived with his Uncle Lloyd "Red" and Aunt Charlotte Earney after his parents passed away. He accepted the Lord early in life. He was a star basketball player, president of his class all four years of high school and graduated with the class of 1969. He went to play two years of basketball at Murray State in Oklahoma. He was involved in a bad car accident on July 7, 1972 near Huzzah Valley where he was seriously injured and left disabled for the rest of his life. He later lived in Columbia, Missouri for 20 years and was able to have season tickets to watch Mizzou Basketball thanks to generous friends from Steelville, Missouri. His basketball legacy is still well known and some have referred to him as "The infamous Freddie Barr." He enjoyed going out to eat, especially while living in Columbia, Missouri and loved deer meat which his family kept him supplied with. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence "Jack" and Vivian Barr; and grandparents, Treff Earney Sr., Myrtle Earney, Norma Lee Earney and Frederick and Evelyn Barr. He is survived by his brother, Roger (Dorothy Roland) Barr of Steelville, Missouri; sister, Sandy (Dave) Hatcher, all of Steelville, Missouri; special uncle and aunt, Lloyd "Red" (Charlotte) Earney of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was from noon-2 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral service immediately followed at 2 p.m. with Rev. Alan Miles officiating. John Scarff Hornung John Scarff Hornung of Cedar Hill, Missouri was born on January 6, 1940 in Plainfield, New Jersey on January 6, 1940 to Carl and Virginia Scarff Hornung and passed away on June 28, 2019 at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 25 days of age. He was united in marriage to Melba Roy. He and his parents and siblings moved to Skaneateles, New York when he was in high school and then after high school he attended Auburn and Syracuse University. After college he moved back to New Jersey and worked as a Finance Manager. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War. After moving to St. Louis, Missouri he started his own company Medical Commercial Audit which is now operated by his daughter Julie Repa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Virginia Hornung; brother, Carl; and his twin, Paul. He is survived by his wife, Melba Roy Hornung of 50 years; daughter, Julie Repa and fiancˇ Darrel Meiser; two grandsons, Brandon and Bryce Repa and their father Keith Repa; sister, Dorothy Akers and husband Ryan; brother, Michael; sisters-in-law, Patti, Betty and Janet; other relatives and friends. Lester Carl "Les" Murdock Lester Carl "Les" Murdock of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, March 24, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to Carl Lester and Zella Florence Bonney Murdock and passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 16 days. Lester married Rebecca Jo Harris in Fayette, Missouri on September 2, 1950 . After graduating from high school, Les completed several classes at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in the evenings while working during the day. He was employed as an industrial engineer throughout most of his professional career. He served at the Ramsey Corporation and Brauer Brothers Shoe Company in St. Louis, Missouri also, Trimfoot Corp, Farmington, Missouri. The Cuba Shoe Company, Mid America Shoe Corp. and Gen Corp. all in Cuba, Missouri; lastly Mid America Shoe Corp. in Sullivan, Missouri. Lester served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the American Legion for 29 years. When Lester and his family relocated to Cuba, Missouri from Florissant, Missouri in 1966, he became a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri serving in various positions. The Crawford County School Board had him as a member from 1968-1975. He was President for five of these years. During his tenure, the Cuba elementary school building was added. Lester was a member of the City Council for 14 years and served on the pool and airport committees. For 13 of those years, he was an alderman from Ward III including being President for five of those years. He was Cuba Mayor from 1989-1990. He was instrumental in helping to obtain a grant to develop Cuba's Industrial Park. In 2012 he was recognized for Distinguished Service by the State of Missouri's Emergency Management Agency for his 30 years of service to the City of Cuba in the area of emergency preparedness. Other organizations, committees and boards he served were Committee for 911 in Crawford County (Co-chairman), Senior Center (past president), Senior Center Assistance Program (Chairman), Meramec Regional County Commission, Meramec Region Emergency Planning Committee, Crawford County Fair Board, Chamber of Commerce, American Red Cross, Ozark Solid Waste Committee, Crawford County Extension Council, Historical Society, and Route 66 Association. He also was Cuba Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2004. Lester enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the children at Christmas time and his lifelong hobby of photography. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Zalla Murdock; wife of almost 56 years, Rebecca Jo Harris Murdock on August 8, 2006; brother, Kenneth Ray Murdock; sisters-in-law, Betty Delph Murdock and Catherine Harris Werner; son-in-law, Kindall Moore; and brother-in-law, Ray Werner. He is survived by his children, Deborah Kay Summerskill and husband Wally of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Cynthia Louise Reeves of Kingwood, Texas and Michael Lester Murdock and wife Jacquie of Rolla, Missouri; grandchildren, Christy (Josh) Honey of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, John (Malinda) Sawyer of Kingwood, Texas, Nikki Wilson and Anna (Chris) Vitzthum all of Rolla, Missouri; 11 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Rosemary Patricia O'Grady Rosemary Patricia O'Grady of O'Fallon, Missouri was born February 26, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Neil and Mary Ella O'Grady and passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 18 days. Rosemary was employed at Falstaff Brewery in St. Louis, Missouri for several years. She later moved to San Francisco, California working at the Naval Base ordering airplane parts. After many years and retiring, she moved to Republic, Missouri. Rosemary always enjoyed working in her yard. She loved animals especially her cats. Rosemary was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by her companion of many years, Ed Westen of O'Fallon, Missouri; cousins, Mike (Jamie) May and Denny and Kirk Struebing, all of Missouri and Jennifer Sievking, Gary Sievking and Danny Sievking, all of Georgia; other relatives and friends. Rosemary's wish was to be cremated with inurnment in the Steelville Cemetery. A memorial will be held in Republic, Missouri at a later date. Taylor of St. James, Missouri, formerly of Cuba and St. Clair, Missouri was born Friday, May 31, 1935 at St. Clair, Missouri to Frank V. and Helen R. (neee Baldridge) Frossard and passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the age of 84 years. Mary married Kenneth R. "Bus" Taylor on September 12, 1953 and they were happily married for 64 years when Bus passed away in March of 2017. Mary retired in the mid 1980's from the Midway Motor Lodge where she worked in the housekeeping department for many years. She was a member of Trinity Chapel in Cuba, Missouri for many years before moving to St. Clair, Missouri and then she attended Canaan Land Ministries. Mary treasured the time she spent with her nieces and nephews going on trips to Disney, Six Flags and the river. Mary was an avid gardener and her flower gardens were always the most beautiful in town. She was an excellent cooker, immaculate housekeeper and Mary and Bus spent many hours going to auctions buying things which lead to them having many yard sales. Mary's God given talent was quilting. Her quilts were made with love and will keep her family warm for generations to come. Mary spent 20 years taking care of and spoiling Kayla, Alex and Jenna. They were truly her granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Frossard; husband, Bus Taylor; one sister, Virginia Ruesing; and one brother, Joe Frossard. Virginia "Jean" Mae Whitman Virginia "Jean" Mae Whitman of Steelville, Missouri was born August 17, 1950 in Steelville, Missouri to William "Bill" and Erma (Callahan) Quinton and passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the age of 68 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Erma Quinton; husband; one son, James R. Quinton; one daughter, Vicki Headrick-Whitman; brothers, Bobby and Kenneth Quinton; sister-in-law, Laverna K. Quinton; and brother-in-law, Everett Setzer.
