Maurice Reyburn Cape
Maurice Reyburn Cape was born on February 12, 1911 the
son of Jesse M. and Amy P. Cape and passed away July 9, 2007 at the
age of 96 years.
He was united in marriage to Kathryn White in 1935 and
to this union two children were born, Donna Eaker of Brookfield,
Connecticut and Kay Marik of New Hope, Pennsylvania. Kathryn
preceded him in death in 1986. He then married Winnie McMillan who
passed away in 2005.
Maurice was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian
Church for more than 80 years and served that congregation in many
capacities including clerk of the congregation, treasurer, elder and
was one of the original “Groundhogs.” During the 1960’s he
envisioned and coordinated the Lord’s Herd Project which was
instrumental in funding the rebuilding of the Presbyterian Church.
He was employed by the First Community National Bank in
1935 as a teller and janitor and ended his employment in the bank 45
years later serving as vice president and senior loan officer.
Subsequent to his retirement in 1980, he became a member of the
bank’s Board of Directors culminating a total of 67 years of service
with the bank.
Maurice’s avid interest in farming began early in his
life and he always spent any available hours in the development of
his farming projects. During World War II and for a period of years
thereafter, he operated a dairy farm–milking, bottling and
delivering milk. He then transferred his operation to beef cattle
and maintained a large cow-calf herd for many years, staying active
in its management until recently.
He was a charter and active member of the Crawford
County Farm Bureau, a charter and lifetime member of the Ozark Trail
Blazers, a charter member of the National Cattlemen’s Association,
the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and the Crawford County
Cattlemen’s Association. He was an active participant in a wide
variety of Missouri Agriculture Extension and Crawford County
Extension activities. For many years Maurice served on the Board of
Directors of the Interstate Producers Livestock Association, a
marketing assocation that served farmers in Iowa, Illinois and
Missouri. During that time he was instrumental in the development of
the IPLA’s auction marketing center located in Cuba, Missouri. He
has been honored with many awards from the University of Missouri
for his achievements and contributions furthering agriculture.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives;
brother, Wilber Cape and sister, Brenda Riebel.
Considering his combined families, Maurice is survived
by his sister, Wilma Earls of Steelville, Missouri; daughters, Donna
Eaker and husband Thomas and Kay Marik and husband Jaromir; step
son, R. Bruce McMillan and wife Virginia of Springfield, Illinois;
eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a number of nieces
and nephews.
A service of celebration was held Friday, July 13, 2007
at the Steelville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ann Pitman
officiating.
Sharing memories were given by the daughters; step son;
grandson, Ron Eaker and niece, Paula Ritchie. Congregational songs
of “If I Have Wounded Someone Today,” “Here I Am Lord,” “In the
Garden” and “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” were sung.
Serving as casket bearers were Ed Cape, Norman Riebel,
Dan Cape, Bruce Earls, Bill Cape, Ron Eaker and David Eaker with
committal prayers and burial in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Robert Lee Crabtree Sr.
Robert Lee Crabtree Sr. was born June 17, 1935 in Courtois, the son
of Orville and Lucille Agnes Payne and passed away Saturday, July 7,
2007 at Jefferson Barracks Veterans Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri
at the age of 72 years.
Bob was married to Regina Neumann in St. Louis, Missouri and to this
union two sons and one daughter were born.
Bob has been a supervisor in electronic manufacturing in St. Louis,
Missouri. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to May 1960. He
loved to hunt and fish but most of all his love was for dirt stock
car racing. He loved to attend dirt races all over the Midwest with
his friends. For many years he kept a large map of the United States
on the wall and could always tell where or how far you could drive
in one day. When Bob Jr. or family were on vacation they would call
and he could tell them within a few miles of where they were at any
given time.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Crabtree and two
sisters, Doris Gaddy and Betty Crabtree.
He is survived by his sons, Robert “Bob” Crabtree Jr. and wife Karen
of Festus, Missouri and Mark A. Crabtree and wife Priscilla of
Tacoma, Washington; one daughter, Sheri Lynn Simpson-Scott and
husband Yoman Scott of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren,
Robert Lee Crabtree III, Kimberly Anne Crabtree, Andrew Crabtree,
Chase Simpson, Julia Scott and Major Scott.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 12, 2007 with Rev. Bob
Coleman officiating.
CD music of “Superman” was played in remembrance of grandfather.
Serving as casket bearers were Bob Crabtree Jr., Mark Crabtree, Bob
Crabtree III, Chase Simpson, Yoman Scott and Ken Crain with prayers
and burial in the Lower Indian Creek Cemetery in Viburnum, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral
Home of Steelville, Missouri.
Bonnie Ruth Hendrix
Bonnie Ruth Hendrix, Steelville, Missouri, was born
September 10, 1923 in Tupelo, Mississippi, the daughter of Virgil
Eugene and Christine (Vaughn) Horton and passed away Sunday, July 8,
2007 at the age of 83 years.
She was united in marriage to Herbert Stanley Hendrix on
September 18, 1942 in St. Charles, Missouri.
Ruth was of the Baptist faith and a member of the
Eastern Star of Versailles, Missouri. She had been an insurance
broker for Shelter Insurance Co.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years and
one brother, Fred Horton.
She is survived by two sons, Warren Hendrix and wife
Shirley of Steelville, Missouri and Tom Hendrix and wife Debra of
Prairie Home, Missouri; two daughters, Gail Miller of Columbia,
Missouri and Linda Rush and husband J.C. “Doc” of Selma, Alabama;
one step daughter, LaDonna Fountain of Cuba, Missouri; nine
grandchildren, Christy Hain, Michelle Turnbough, Eric Hendrix, Chris
Hendrix, Justin Hendrix, Joey Hendrix, Melanie, Nick Miller and
Nathan Miller; 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in
the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Farr officiating.
Special music of “What Will Your Answer Be” and “Will
the Circle be Unbroken” were sung by Jerry Beers with Sharon
Hardecke accompanying.
Serving as casket bearers were Nathan Miller, Chris
Hendrix, Will Olms, Randy Turnbough, Joey Hendrix and Justin
Hendrix. Honorary casket bearers were Nick Miller, Heath Turnbough
and Eric Turnbough.
Burial was in the Moutray Cemetery in Steelville,
Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Charles A. Mitchell
Charles Alexander Mitchell of Cuba, Missouri, was born
July 15, 1954 in Valley Park, Missouri, the son of George Washington
and Juanita Doris (Holtz) Mitchell and passed away at the age of 52
years.
Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1975 to 1978.
He is survived by one brother, Steven Mitchell of
Joplin, Missouri and two sisters, Christine Eldrod of Santa Rosa,
California and Cindy Taylor; one aunt, Rosemary Cook of Sullivan,
Missouri; special cousins, Larry and Verna Holtz and Holly Hager,
all of Cuba, Missouri.
Military graveside honor services were held Wednesday,
July 11, 2007 at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Bonnie Jean Welker
Bonnie Jean Welker was born Saturday, May 2, 1936 in
Davisville, Missouri, the daughter of Emery and Litha (Martin)
Turnbough and passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Washington
County Memorial Hospital in Potosi, Missouri at the age of 71 years.
Bonnie was united in marriage to Dale Welker on October
8, 1977 in Potosi, Missouri.
She attended the Berryman Assembly of God Church. She
enjoyed being with family especially her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard
Turnbough, Troy Turnbough and Roy Turnbough and wife Helen; one
sister, Jerldine Turnbough and one brother-in-law, Jake Turnbough.
She is survived by her husband of the home; one son, Tim
Carey and wife Mary of St. Louis, Missouri; one grandson, Timmy
Carey Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Blake
Eugene Carey and Zoey Elizabeth Palmasano; two brothers, Ellis
Turnbough and wife Dawn of Davisville, Missouri and Lawrence
Turnbough and wife Bonnie of Davisville, Missouri; two sisters,
Dorothy Pierce of St. Louis, Missouri and Rosalene Turnbough of
Davisville, Missouri.
Five step children, Tamara Bauer of Bellevue, Nebraska,
Paula Phares and husband Tom of Belgrade, Missouri, Sandra Curtis
and husband Chris of Overland, Missouri, Gary Welker and wife Maggie
of Martinton, Illinois and Bonnie Jamerson and husband Allen of St.
Louis, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Carl Welker and wife Verna May
of Steelville, Missouri and Max Welker and wife Fern of West Plains,
Missouri; one sister-in-law, May Belle Yount of Cedar Hill,
Missouri; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, 2007 in the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Adrel Roberdes and Rev. Perry
Lewis officiating.
Special music of “Mama’s Hand” was sung by Bob and Carol
Coleman and “Send Your Best Angel for Mama” was sung by David
Callahan.
Serving as casket bearers were Timmy Carey Jr., Gary
Welker, Sandy Curtis, Rick James, Tony Palmasano and Jake Palmasano
with committal prayers and burial in the Davisville Cemetery in
Davisville, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
E. Henry Williams
Edwin Henry Williams, Steelville, Missouri, was born
Thursday, April 3, 1919, the son of Giles Edwin and Edith Viola
(Clonts) Williams and passed away Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Phelps
County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 88
years.
Henry married Georgia Marie Fry in St. Louis, Missouri
on September 1, 1945 and to this union one son and two daughters
were born. After 53 years of marriage Georgia preceded him in death.
He was employed by the Boeing Company as a power house
mechanic in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of the VFW of both
Steelville, Missouri and Cuba, Missouri. He loved to square dance
and shuffleboard. He served in the U.S. Army from April 14, 1941 to
July 23, 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had been a member of
the Missouri Fox Hunters Association, the Ozark Trail Blazers and
the Steelville Country Club where he was involved with many
children’s benefit activities and an avid Cardinal fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one
brother, Ward Williams; three sisters, Edna Walker, Velma Knight and
Alice Jones; five brothers-in-law, Alvin Walker, Cleve Williams,
James Knight, Al Jones and Lloyd Fry; two sisters-in-law, Wilma
Anderson and Juanita Smith.
He is survived by his son, H. Wayne Williams and wife
Linda of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Karen Ann Zeuschel
and husband Donald and Linda Marie Smith and husband James, all of
St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren, David Williams and wife
Stacy, Courtney Heath and husband Eric, Kimberly Zeuschel, Michael
Zeuschel, Jon Smith and wife Erica, Jeffery Smith and wife Amy and
Jason Smith and wife Melissa; 11 great grandchildren, Samuel,
Katherine, Alexander, Benjamin, Connor, Wesley, Dakota, Kaci, Jacob,
Joseph, Lillian; one sister, Ruby Lee Williams; one brother-in-law,
Edward Anderson and one sister-in-law, Ruby Maxine Williams.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 2
p.m. in the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Coleman
officiating.
Special CD’s of “Because you Loved Me” and “Amazing
Grace” were played. Special memories were given by son, H. Wayne
Williams, of his dad.
Serving as casket bearers were Wayne Williams, Don
Zeuschel, Jim Smith, David Williams, Mike Zeuschel, Jon Smith, Jeff
Smith and Jason Smith with committal prayers and burial in the
Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.
Military funeral honors were given by the St. James VFW.
Arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
