MO Local Obituaries for the Week of July 19, 2017 Carol Sue Bell Carol Sue Bell of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Cherryville, Missouri, was born to Ernest J. and Mabel (Murray) Bell on Thursday, September 29, 1949 in Cherryville, Missouri and passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 30 days. Carol enjoyed cooking, growing flowers outdoors, reading, board games and crafts. She made stuffed animals and occasionally quilts. She was a classic film buff and especially enjoyed black and white movies from the "Golden Era." Before her illness, she served for many years as a loan officer for the Federal Housing Administration. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mabel Bell; sister, Bonnie Bowman; and brothers, Stephen Bell and Bill Bell. She is survived by her son, David S. (Paula) Bell of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Stephanie N. Bell of St. Louis, Missouri; brother, Don (Pauline) Bell of Watonga, Oklahoma; sister, Martha Roberson of Richmond Heights, Missouri; sister-in-law, Juanita Bell of Steelville, Missouri; grandchildren, Trystan J. Bell, Caitlyn N. Bell, and Aubrey Lewis, all of St. Louis, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Claude Carlyle Coffey Jr. Claude Carlyle Coffey Jr. of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, October 8, 1948 at Richmond, Virginia to Claude C. Sr. and Louise (nee Dease) Coffey and passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the age of 68 years. Claude proudly retired from the United States Army after 20 years of dedicated service. Claude left from the service to attend medical school, but before he could finish, he went back to the Army and he was sent to Vietnam as a medic. Claude was a devout and faithful member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. He volunteered at the Cuba Food Pantry and he helped drive individuals to the doctor, grocery store, church and many other places, when they had no transportation. Claude made a trip twice a year to Tennessee to visit his sister Geneva. For the last several years he had become an avid reader and he enjoyed exchanging books with his sister. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude C. Coffey Sr.; and mother, Louise Coffey. He is survived by his sister, Geneva and husband Ken Conner of Johnson City, Tennessee; one niece, Heather and husband David Klein of Rutland, Vermont; one aunt and uncle Norma and husband Gardner of Biloxi, Mississippi; other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Cuba United Methodist Church, date and time pending. Private interment was held at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Early of St. James, Missouri was born Monday, March 30, 1925 at Alton, Illinois to Albert and Elizabeth (nee Vahle) Doerr and passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 age of 92 years. Mildred graduated from the Alton High School, Alton, Illinois. On June 1, 1947 in Alton, Illinois she married Curtis Early. Mildred spent her life taking care of her family and home. Her fried chicken was the best in the world. She spent hours sewing, putting together puzzles and listening to music. In 1995 Mildred got a hole in one at the Cuba Lakes Golf Course. She played bridge for years, collected cardinal birds and was a lifetime fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Early; parents, Albert and Elizabeth Doerr; two brothers, Herman and wife Dorothy Doerr and Walter Doerr; and three sisters, Lorraine and husband Bud LaPelle, Dorothy Ridder and Margaret McCoy. She is survived by her children, Janis and husband Bernard Wylie of St. James, Missouri, Elaine and husband Bill Harlan of St. James, Missouri, Jody Brogley of St. James, Missouri and Kathy and husband Joe Bitzer of St. James, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Michael and wife Heather Wylie of St. Louis, Missouri, Ben and wife Laura Wylie of San Francisco, California, Ryan Wylie of San Francisco, California, William "Will" and wife Emily Harlan of Ashville, North Carolina, Jill and husband Paul Pryz of Champaign, Illinois, Sarah and husband Brian Busby of Dallas, Texas, Becky Bitzer of Anchorage, Alaska and Brian Bitzer of Washington, Missouri; 15 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Troy Gamble Troy Gamble of Steelville, Missouri, formerly of Paulina, Louisiana, was born on Thursday, March 12, 1942 in Leachville, Arkansas to Delmar and Josephene (Wilkey) Gamble and passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 24 days. Troy was raised by his grandparents and spent most of his life in Louisiana. He spoke fondly of his Louisiana roots often. He served our country honorable in the United States Army. He married Mary "Mickey" Fannon on December 23, 1974 in Jonesborough, Arkansas. He occasionally attended a Catholic Church with his wife, Mickey. He worked as a truck driver in the oil industry for Diversified Logging in Reserve, Louisiana. He was a CB buff and was known as the "Arkansas Traveler." He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, coffee shops, and sitting on the deck with coffee and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Delmar and Josephene Gamble; wife, Mickey Gamble; daughter, Brenda Lee Gamble; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Gail Lea Johnston Gail Lea Johnston (nee Cummings) of Spanish Lake, Missouri was born December 25, 1949 in Rolla, Missouri to Robert "Bud" Sr. and Lea (Jones) Cummings and passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017. She was united in marriage to Ralph Johnston over 20 years ago. Gail was very proud of her Scottish heritage and decided to purchase a plot of land in Scotland, so she could call herself "Lady Gail of Glencoe." She was so pleased to be a country girl and never forgot where she came from. In her 50's, she went sky diving for the first time, a memory she never forgot. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lea Cummings. Golden Marie King Golden Marie King of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Leasburg, Missouri, was born Saturday, January 23, 1926 at Bourbon, Missouri to Jesse and Susie (nee Wymer) Richards and passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Golden married James William King on January 26, 1946 at Leasburg, Missouri. They were happily married for nearly 68 years when James passed away in January 2014. Golden retired in 1995 after 30 years of dedicated service, as a bookkeeper, for Rexall Drug (Staats family) in Sullivan, Missouri and Cuba, Missouri. Golden always grew a beautiful flower garden every year and she also spent many hours working in her vegetable garden. In her younger years, she would be canning everything she grew. Golden was a devout member of the Crossroads Baptist Church of Leasburg since 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Susie Richards; husband, James King; two infant brothers; uncle, Gene Richards; brothers-in-law, Edward, Alvin, Wilbur and Gene King, Maurice Ray and Chuck Schaffer; sisters-in-law, Ethel and husband Robert Bodey, Viola Sappington, Alma Woods, Marie Adam and Ina King; other relatives and friends. Mary Hester McInnis Mary Hester McInnis was born April 16, 1935 in Phelps County, Missouri to John Haskell and Bella Hester Carpenter McInnis and passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 21 days. Mary graduated from Missouri University in Columbia, with a degree in English Literature. After graduating college, she settled in Washington D.C. employed by the United States government. Mary spent over 40 years working with the Executive Branch as a speechwriter for President Eisenhower, President Nixon and President Reagan and assisted senators in drafting bills for legislation, being one of the first women to help write and draft bills in the 1950's. She also worked in public relations and special activities with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Mary was very active in the National Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C. as their pianist. She was an accomplished pianist playing for various government and military functions. She also served as the EPA Music Director for several years. As an active quilter, Mary donated hundreds of quilts to children's homes all over the world. Mary was very proud of her heritage in Crawford County and her life on a Century Farm. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bella McInnis; two brothers, Donald and Richard McInnis; and one sister, Hallie Jean Slowensky. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A graveside inurnment was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Steelville Cemetery. Memories were shared by Gary Sanders, Kent Howald, Jeff Brown and nephew, John Slowensky. "Jerry" Roth Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri was born on Sunday, January 8, 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri to Gerald J. and Rebecca J. (Rider) Roth Sr. and passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the age of 50 years. Jerry graduated from Oakville High School in 1985 and he then earned his A.A.S. degree from St. Louis Community College Funeral Service Education Program in 1992. Prior to going to mortuary school, during mortuary school, while serving his apprenticeship, and for a few years after, Jerry worked for Hoffmeister Mortuaries of St. Louis, Missouri. Jerry later became a self-employed truck driver and he traveled back and forth across the country for millions of miles over the years. He enjoyed getting to watch many sunrises and sunsets in nearly every state of the union. During life, he treasured being Uncle Jerry to his amazing nephews and nieces. He would spend hours and hours reading. He enjoyed collecting guns, going to shooting sports events and driving his Mustang. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman and Virginia Roth and Charles and Oneida Rider; one aunt, Diane Faubel; and his beloved dog, Morticia. Gloria Jean Schroeder Gloria Jean Schroeder (nee Mullen) of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, December 23, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri to Donald Eugene and Lois Jean Morgan Mullen and passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 17 days. Gloria earned her Jr. Instructor license in Cosmetology and worked at Excella Beauty School in St. Louis, Missouri for a few years. She loved traveling and was an over the road truck driver hauling campers with her husband Charles for several years. Gloria was a caregiver to many, especially recently taking care of her father until his passing. She always attended and supported her children and grandchildren in their sports activities. She enjoyed baking cookies with her grandchildren and was also, an excellent seamstress even making her own wedding dress. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Mullen; parents, Donald and Lois Jean Mullen; and great nephew, Austin Hoener. She was preceded in death by her mother, Susan (Woods) Rogers in 2002. Bethanie was a Licensed Practical Nurse who enjoyed taking care of the elderly. She loved reading romance novels and spending time with family. She is survived by her father, Bill Rogers of Rolla, Missouri; three children, Emilie Hedge of Rolla, Missouri, Stiehl Roberge of St. James, Missouri and Olivia Rogers of Rolla, Missouri; one sister, Staci Quashnock and husband Bill of Seattle, Washington; other relatives and friends.
