Jason Phillip Guthrie
Jason Phillip Guthrie of Cuba, Mo. was born on January 16, 1979 at
Sullivan, Mo. and passed away suddenly on July 10, 2000 at the age of 21
years, 5 months and 24 days.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hazel and Fred Dicus, Beverly
Guthrie, Lucy Crider, great-grandfather Otto Cummings.
Jason was a graduate of the Cuba R-2 High School and was raised in the
Coffee Community Church of Steelville, Mo. After graduating from high
school he worked for Meramec Electrical Products as a shipping clerk and
played on their ball team.
Jason had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter
and bow hunter.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving
parents Linda (Dicus) and Doug Gill of Cuba, Mo., father Jon Guthrie of
Steelville, Mo.; two sisters Jennifer Guthrie of Cuba, Mo. and Christina
Gill of Rolla; one brother Joey Guthrie of Cuba, Mo.; grandparents Phil and
Janie Guthrie of Ft. Meyers, Florida and James Gill of Hattisburg,
Mississippi; great-grandmother Lena Cummings of Cuba, MO.; special aunt and
uncle Gene and Judy Whittaker; the Sanazaro Family (Jason had a special
bond with them); aunts; uncles; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Jason was a devoted son, loving brother, grandson, nephew, good friend to
all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Jason Phillip Guthrie was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, July 14, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the
Rivers of Life Church, Steelville, Mo. with Rev. David Cartee officiating.
Interment was in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. All arrangements
were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
James D. Eads
James D. Eads of Sullivan passed away on Monday, July 10, 2000 at the age
of 64 years.
Mr. Eads was born on September 15, 1935 in St. James, Mo. to the late
Arthur Roy and Mary Ruth (Pate) Eads. He was raised in Cuba, Mo. and
graduated from Cuba High School. Soon after graduation he was drafted into
the United States Army, through which he honorably served his country for a
two year term. Mr. Eads then went to work in the shipping and receiving
department of Lever Brothers in St. Louis. He remained a faithful employee
there for over 32 years until his retirement. In July of 1974 he was joined
in marriage to Susan Rhoads, and to this union one son was born.
In 1994 he moved to Sullivan. Mr. Eads was a serious history buff who could
make history "come alive" as he discussed it with others. He especially
enjoyed reading about the Civil War and World War II. He also took pleasure
in aviation, cold beer, and in gathering with family and friends around the
piano and singing all night long. He was an admirable father, and a man
with a keen sense of humor. Of him the following has been said: "There
wasn't a more entertaining man alive," and "he had a way of lighting up the
room when he entered it."
He is survived by one son, James K. Eads and wife, Dawn of Sullivan; one
sister, Loretta Scott of Sullivan; three grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to
his parents, Mr. Eads was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Eads,
Reverend John Eads, and Arthur Eads; and one sister, Eleanor Eads.
Funeral services were conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2000
from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott
Perry officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson
Barracks, Mo. with military honors. If desired, contributions may be made
to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. James D. Eads.
Robert Neil Hehl
Robert Neil Hehl was born Wednesday., February 17, 1937, in East St. Louis,
Illinois, a son of the late Raymond L. Hehl and Cleo Hehl (nee Flood). He
passed away Thursday, July 6, 2000, at his home in Steelville, Mo. at the
age of 63 years, 4 months and 19 days.
He served his country in the United States Navy for twenty years, 1954 to
1974, and served his community as the "Shelter Insurance Man" for twenty
years.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one son, Bobby
Hehl.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife June
(Snell) Hehl of Steelville, Mo.; three sons, Ken Hehl and wife Barbara and
their children Jordan, Spencer and Megan Hehl of Indianapolis, Indiana;
Kevin Hehl and wife Lisa and their children, Amanda, Ashley, Eric and Adam
Hehl of Oram, Utah; Stephen Hehl and wife Barb and their children Lindsey
and Alyssa also of Orem, Utah; other relatives and many friends.
Robert Neil Hehl lay in state 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2000, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were
held 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2000 in the Britton Chapel with Rev.
Scott Perry officiating. Musical selection were provided by pianist Fran
Rohrer and vocalist Jane Rohrer, also a selection by Bob's boys and their
families.
Serving as pallbearers were Ken Hehl, Kevin Hehl, Stephen Hehl, Gary
Gibbons, Walter Kingsley, Bill Blackwell, Jr. and Albert Rohrer.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
Hazel Ruth Dicus
Hazel Ruth Dicus (nee Humphrey), was born Friday, November 19, 1920, in
Granite City, Illinois, a daughter of the late William Franklin Humphrey
and Ollie Humphrey (nee Kinworthy). She entered eternal rest at her home in
Steelville, Mo., Sunday, July 9, 2000, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and
20 days.
On April 23, 1938, at Steelville, Mo., Hazel was united in marriage to Fred
William Dicus and to this union of more than forty-eight years, eight sons
and four daughters were born. Fred preceded her in death, March 9, 1986.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son
Richard Lee Dicus who was killed in Vietnam while serving in the United
States Army. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Luther and Leo
Humphrey, and five sisters, Evelyn Goddard, Bessie Pinson, Della Mae Leach,
Gladys Gray and Doris Humphrey and one grandson Bobby Whittaker.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her children, seven sons
and four daughters, Kenneth Dicus and wife Teri of Dale, Indiana, Louis
Dicus and wife Judy of Steelville, Mo., Judy and husband Gene Whittaker,
also of Steelville, Mo., Bill Dicus of Cuba, Mo., Carol and husband Mike
Watson, Gerald Dicus, all of Steelville, Mo.
Jack Dicus and wife Deborah of Bourbon, Linda and husband Doug Gill of
Cuba, Mo., Allan Dicus of Wesco, Mo., Tim Dicus and wife Rita of Cuba, Mo.,
Peggy and husband Elmer Gregory of St. James, Mo. and Debbie and husband
Guy Smith, a granddaughter raised in the home as a daughter.
Also twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren,
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mildred Ransom, Pansy Young, Edith and
Arnold Dunn, Tressie Humphrey, all of Steelville, Mo., and Bob Leach of
California; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Hazel Ruth Dicus lay in state after 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were
held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev.
Tom Campbell officiating. Musical selections were provided by Bob and Carol
Coleman.
Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Mo. Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Brad Dicus, Danny Dicus,
Pat Dicus, Brandon Gregory, Joey Guthrie, Robert Payne, Johnny Watson and
Larry Whittaker.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Kristeen Carolyn Lee
Kristeen Carolyn Lee was born on March 24, 1986 in Sullivan, Missouri to
Jerry D. Lee and Sherry L. Lee, and passed away on July 10, 2000 near Cuba,
Missouri, as a result of an automobile accident.
Kristy moved to Rolla three years ago from Cuba. She completed the eighth
grade and was looking forward to high school. Kristy loved music, tennis,
racquetball, volleyball and all sports. She also sang in the school choir.
While attending Covenant of Praise Church of God, Kristy professed faith in
Jesus Christ as her savior.
She is preceded in death by her father Jerry Dean Lee; and her
grandparents, Emory and Viola Ray.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her mother Sherry Lee of Rolla;
step-father Rodney Brunner of Rolla; grandparents, Lonnie and Marie Lee of
Bourbon; and special grandma Shirley Brunner of Bowling Green, MO; aunts,
uncles, cousins and many friends all who will sadly miss and fondly
remember Kristy Lee.
Visitation for Kristy Lee was held on Friday, July 14, 2000 from 4-9 p.m.
at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, MO.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Covenant
of Praise Church of God in Cuba, MO with Pastor Mark Smith officiating.
Theresa Smith sang "Someone to Care," "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," and
"In the Garden."
Pallbearers were: Terry Ray, Jerry Ray, Larry Ray, Keith Lee, Tim Lee and
Danny Lee.
Burial was in the Enloe-Hodge Cemetery, Cuba, MO.
All arrangements were under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba,
MO.
