Thomas “Tommy” Lee Steven Capps
Thomas “Tommy” Lee Steven Capps of Bourbon, Missouri was born on
May 26, 1992 in St. Louis, Missouri to Thomas Paul Capps and the late
Lisa Lee Lowery and passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at the age of 19
years.
He attended several schools and graduated from Bourbon High School in 2011.
He was a very nice and polite young man who enjoyed hunting, fishing,
4-wheeling and working out in the gym. Tommy’s goal was to go to college
and be a veterinarian one day.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lisa.
He is survived by his parents, Thomas Paul Capps and Paula F. (Pennick)
Capps of Bourbon, Missouri; two sisters, Rachel Marie Lowery, of Indiana
and Kirsten Karpowecz of Bourbon, Missouri; two brothers, Zachary Karpowecz
and fiancée Samantha of Wisconsin and Tyler Karpowecz of Bourbon, Missouri;
grandparents, Stanley Thomas Capps and wife Geraldine of Bourbon, Missouri,
Robert Lowery I and wife Karen of St. Peters, Missouri and Joan Pennick of
Cuba, Missouri; special aunts, Diane Capps of Bourbon, Missouri, Pam Burke

A memorial funeral service was held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at
the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry
officiating.

Geneva A. Coon
Geneva A. Coon of Kankakee, Illinois was born on Thursday, February 16, 1916
in St. Louis, Missouri to Philip and Sara Francis May Lunn and passed away
on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in Kankakee, Illinois at the age of 95 years, 5
months and 18 days.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leon S. Howald and John Coon;
sister, Lavina Bryant and brother, Wesley Lunn.
She is survived by her children, Emily Howald of Kankakee, Illinois, Nancy
Smith of Jamison, Pennsylvania, Kathy Bailey of Macomb, Illinois and Robert
Howald of Kankakee, Illinois; stepson, John L. Coon MD of Caynon Lake,
California; sisters, Juanita Hood of Springfield, Missouri, Sarah (Bob)
Sickman of Owensville, Missouri, Deree Williams of St. Peters, Missouri and
Mary Ellen Mitchell of Fairview Heights, Illinois; brother, Claude Lunn of
Salem, Missouri; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; other

Madeline Delores Cooper
Madeline Delores Cooper, nee Lefler of Viburnum, Missouri was born
October 12, 1929 at Huzzah, Missouri to Franklin and Bertha (Gilliam)
Lefler and passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Union, Missouri at the
age of 81 years.
She was united in marriage to George Blair and later married Donald Cooper
on May 4, 1976.
Madeline was a member of the Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
She was raised on the family farm on Little Shoal Creek and later raised
her four children on the family farm. In her lifetime, she canned
literally thousands of quarts of fresh fruits and vegetables without the
comfort of air conditioning and never complaining. Later she lived in
Viburnum and retired from Brown Shoe Company after 27 years.
She loved visits from family and friends and setting on the carport
accompanied by her beloved Max.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Bertha Lefler; her
husband, Donald Cooper; one son, Phil Blair; one grandchild; one sister,
Mable Turnbough and husband Ralph; six brothers, Latha Lefler and wife
Hazel, Clyde, Haskell, Freeman, Edwin and infant Eugene Lefler.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Lefler and wife Mary of Union, Missouri
and Jim Blair and wife Lynn of Independence, Missouri; one daughter, Patsy
Davis of Viburnum, Missouri; one step-son, Jim Cooper of Steelville, Missouri;
three sisters-in-law, Virginia, Beulah and Mary Lefler; 14 grandchildren;
22 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Britton-Bennett
Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Leroy Bryant
officiating. Special memories were shared by Mary Lefler. Special music of
“What a Day That Will Be” and “I’ll Meet you in the Morning” was sung by
Larry Sherrill and accompanied by Geraldine Sherrill on piano.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Shoal Creek Cemetery. Special music
of “Go Rest High” was sung by Stanley Chandler.
Casket bearers were nephews and honorary casket bearers were great
grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Grady of Steelville, Missouri was born on Thursday,
October 22, 1925 in Perryville, Missouri to Henry and Linda Schlattman
and passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the age of 85 years, 8 months
and 18 days.
She married Herschel Grady on November 5, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri and to
this union six children were born.
Her hobbies were gardening, canning, playing bingo and crossword puzzles.
She enjoyed providing for her family, making people laugh, and loved her
family and especially her grandchildren very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Linda Schlattman;
husband, Herschel; daughter, Mary Lou Welch; brothers and sisters, Buddy
Schlattman, Margaret Sidik, Vivian “Beanie” Cozart, Micky Merkt, Virginia
Whitt, Sonny Boy Schlattman, and daughter-in-law, Kim Grady.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Kelly) Grady of Phoenix, Arizona, Dan
(Kathy) Grady of Crystal City, Missouri, Bill (Linda) Grady of St. Charles,
Missouri, Steve Grady of Rolla, Missouri and Linda (David) Porting of Cuba,

Beverly Kay Hadley
Beverly Kay Hadley, nee Turnbough of Viburnum, Missouri, was born
February 15, 1943 to Delmer and Muriel Willhite Turnbough and passed away
Friday, July 8, 2011 at her home at the age of 68 years.
On October 14, 1978, she was united in marriage to Clyde Hadley.
Beverly was a member of the United Baptist Church in Viburnum and
attended the Macedonia United Baptist Church in Boss, Missouri.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling and doing volunteer work at the
Senior Center in Viburnum. Beverly also always loved her pet cats at her
side.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmer and Muriel Turnbough and
her husband, Clyde Hadley on February 12, 2006.
She is survived by her son, Christopher L. Girard and wife Felicia of Cape
Girardeau, Missouri; one daughter, Dawn Girard of Viburnum, Missouri; two
step-daughters, Marilyn Ware and husband Bill of Steelville, Missouri and
Priscilla Mabuce and husband Reid of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one brother,
Rev. Berlie Turnbough and wife Elsie of Steelville, Missouri; one sister,
Betty Anderson and husband Thomas of St. Johnsbury, Vermont; two grand-
children, Amanda Girard and Erin Girard; three step-grandchildren, Travis
Ware, Jeffrey Ware and Trevor Mabuce; other relatives and friends.

Gary Lee Helms, Sr.
Gary Lee Helms, Sr. of Old Monroe, Missouri was born April 6, 1955 in
Steelville, Missouri to John D. Helms, Jr. and Goldie Callahan Helms and
passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 in St. Charles, Missouri at the age of 56
years.
In his spare time, Gary loved to shoot pool, play baseball and pitch
horseshoes. He also loved to watch football, baseball and hockey.
One of the best things about his life was he accepted the Lord as his
savior a few days before he died.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Helms; step-brother, Johnny
Thomas and brother-in-law Joe Daley.
He is survived by his mother, Goldie Helms of O’Fallon, Missouri; his

officiating.
Memories were shared by Eugene Helms. A poem was read by Sherri Strieder
written by granddaughter, Kaylie. Special music of “How Great Thou Art” and
“Precious Memories” were sung by Darla Vance, Jackie Helms, Holly VanPatten
and Vicki Davis. “Crying for me” was sung by Kaylie Helms and Briana Helms.
Other music of “In the Arms of Angels” was sung and played by Darla Vance
and a CD of “Freebird” was played.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Steelville Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Tony, Gary, Eugene Jr., Larry, Jerry, and Roger Helms,

Elijah Joseph Williams
Elijah Joseph Williams, stillborn son of Stevie Adams and C.J. Williams
passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 at Phelps County Medical Center in Rolla,
Missouri.
He is survived by his parents, Steve Adams and C.J. Williams of Steelville,
Missouri; siblings, Gage Adams, Austin Williams and Nevaeh Gilbert;
grandparents, Susan Combs of Cuba, Missouri and Lisa Proffer and Larry
Proffer of Rolla, Missouri and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Garry Williams.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. James Self
officiating. Special music was sung by Kara and Rick Wheeler accompanied
on piano by Jaisa Self.

Lavohn B. Kallsen
Lavohn B. Kallsen of St. James, Missouri was born on May 21, 1922 in
Laurens, Iowa to Raymond and Beatrice (Boys) Farlow and passed away on
July 12, 2011 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 29
days.
On January 18, 1944 Lavohn was united in marriage to Merle F. Oleson in
Des Moine, Iowa. Then on February 8, 1988, in Denver, Colorado, Lavohn was
united in marriage to Clyde Kallsen.
Lavohn Kallsen worked for the Defense Plant during World War II in Ankey,
Iowa and also for a Neurosurgeon in Salt Lake City, Utah part-time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Beatrice Farlow;
first husband, Merle F. Oleson; second husband, Clyde Kallsen and three
sisters, Betty Rae Farlow, Marquerite Wisecop and Ruth Speers.
She is survived by two daughters, Lonna Campbell of Laurens, Iowa and
Frankay Stevens of St. James, Missouri; one sister, Rose Marie Roeve of
Laurens, Iowa; three granddaughters, Katherine Stevens of Omaha, Nebraska,
Emily Stevens Brinker and husband Donald of Springfield, Missouri and
Elizabeth Stevens of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Interment in the Laurens Cemetery in Laurens, Iowa.

Clarence E. “Jack” Lewis
Clarence E. “Jack” Lewis of Steelville, Missouri was born on Wednesday,
April 14, 1926 in Cuba, Missouri to Clarence “Bud” and Birdie Reeves Lewis
and passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the age of 85 years and
3 months.
Jack graduated from Cuba High School and later served his country honorably
in the United States Navy during WWII as a Machinist Mate 3rd, or MM3.
Jack married Belva W. “Bell” Dierking on October 31, 1947 in Steelville,
Missouri and to this union one son was born.
Jack and Bell adopted two daughters Jeanie and Ruth. Jack and Bell made
their home together for 59 years until her death in 2006.
Jack worked for over 40 years and retired from Echo Supply Company in Cuba,
Missouri as a machinist. After retiring he owned and operated a tractor
repair business. He was a member of the Steelville VFW Post #6447, and
former Commander of American Legion Post #345 in Steelville, Missouri.
Jack and Bell loved to travel riding their motorcycle. Jack loved to
machanic and build things. He built his own gyrocopter and flew it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence “Bud” and Birdie Lewis;
two brothers, Bob and Bill Lewis, one sister, Evie Bayless; brother-in-law,
John Anderton; granddaughter, Liza Marie Lewis; and great grandson,
Christopher Bell.
He is survived by three children, Larry (Barbara) Lewis, Jeanie Beasley and
Ruth Ann (Ron) Stulce, all of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Dorothy
Jarvis of Gainesville, Texas and Jill Anderton of Boonville, Missouri;
sisters-in-law, Kathy Lewis of Fenton, Missouri and Irene Lewis of Cuba,
Missouri; special friend, Gladyne Riddle of Cuba, Missouri; grandchildren,
Patrick (Laura) Smith, Daniel Lewis and Regina (Terry) Hardester, all of

Ivan Dale Martin
Ivan Dale Martin of Cuba, Missouri was born May 25,1928 at Table Rock,
Nebraska to Carl and Ruth (nee Edgar) Martin and passed away Wednesday,
July 13, 2011 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age
of 83 years, 1 month and 18 days.
Ivan was united in marriage to Mary Nivens on September 30, 1950 at
Ferguson, Missouri and to this union two sons were born.
Ivan proudly served his country in the United States Army from December
1950 to November 1952. He was an accountant for Emerson Electric in
St. Louis for many years before moving to Cuba.
He was the owner of M.K. Hardware in Cuba during the 1970’s and owned
Bronze Fabrications in Cuba from the late 1970’s till the late 1980’s. He
never completely retired always doing part time jobs just to keep busy.
He was a member of the Rolla Bible Church for 35 years. In his spare time he
enjoyed reading, bird watching, golf, Blue Grass music, telling jokes and
enjoyed buying and driving all different types of cars. But what he enjoyed
most was spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Martin; one sister,
Donna Murray; other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Martin of the home; two sons, Dale and wife
Cynthia Martin of Webster Groves, Missouri and Patrick and wife Sherri Martin
of Cuba, Missouri; five grandchildren, Diana and husband Kevin Paglush,
Tiffany and husband Brad Poynter, Jacob and wife Christine Martin, Janice
and husband Colin Burch and Chelsey and husband Alan Friedmann; five great
grandchildren, Kolbi Poynter, Seamus Burch, Kayden Friedmann, Haylei Poynter

Missouri with full military honors.

Kenneth Elmer Otterman
Kenneth Elmer Otterman of Cuba, Missouri was born February 17, 1931 at
St. Louis, Missouri to Lewis Jacob and Gladys (nee Myers) Otterman and
passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center,
St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 26 days.
Kenny or known by his family as Elmer retired from Fleming Manufacturing of
Cuba after 34 years of dedicated service. He formerly served on the Cuba
Fire Department for 17 years. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church for over 60 years where he volunteered to help with everything.
Kenny could always be found for lunch at the Cuba Senior Center, his “2nd”
home. In his spare time he enjoyed working in his garden.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Gladys Otterman; step-son,
Joe Turnbaugh; brother, Sonny Otterman; sister-in-law, Jean Otterman;
other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Otterman of the home; three step
children, Dr. Thomas and wife Ann Turnbaugh of Jefferson City, Missouri,
James Turnbaugh of New Orleans and Judy Windham of Cuba, Missouri; six step
grandchildren, Hillary, Joseph, Joshua, James Roy, Becky and Amy; two sisters,
Lillian and husband Lee Hedrick of Arnold, Missouri and Dolores and husband
Tom Foster of Barnhart, Missouri; one brother, Herbert Otterman of Cuba,
Missouri; two god children, Kevin Foster and Cheryl Bell; other relatives

funeral service 11 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Cuba, Missouri
with Pastor Pat Runk officiating.
The Cuba Fire Department served as pallbearers.

Nellie V. Saladin
Nellie V. Saladin formerly of St. James, Missouri was born on
September 4, 1920 in Shannon County, Missouri to Albert and Nora (Summers)
Bartle and passed away July 11, 2011 in Monett, Missouri at the age of 90
years.
Nellie was a member of the First Church of God for over 50 years. She worked
for the St. James School Lunch program for over 25 years, making her way to
the supervisor position before retiring. Nellie served the first hot lunch in
the St. James School District.
Nellie Bartle was united in marriage to Robert E. Saladin on
December 9, 1938 and to this union two children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Nora Bartle; husband,
Bob Saladin; brothers, Bill, Charlie, Otha and Raymond Bartle; sister,
Jewell Holt.
She is survived by her son, Randall Saladin and daughter-in-law Carol of
Mt. Vernon, Illinois; daughter, LaDonna Bailey and son-in-law Jack of
Monett, Missouri; sister, Rose Feldmiller of St. Louis, Missouri; grand-
children, Brock (Kim) Saladin, Brooke (Chris) Tucker and Brett (Ashley)
Bailey; great grandchildren, Brittany, Ragan and Madison Saladin, Jordan
Marshall, Owen and Emma Tucker and Jaxon and Connor Bailey; other relatives

Paul L. Tutterrow
Paul L. Tutterrow of Sullivan, Missouri was born on May 30, 1920 in
Sullivan, Missouri to Perry and Calumet (nee Woodward) Tutterrow and passed
away Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the age of 91 years.
He married Alene Boster on May 23, 1942, and to this union, three children
were born.
He joined the US Army and honorably served in WWII. During his time in
the Philippines, he helped to free POW’s and was gravely injured, receiving
six Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
Paul worked as a residential carpenter and loved to collect things. He had
a collection of arrowheads, guns and over 70 antique tractors. He enjoyed
fishing and hunting and was a member of the NRA, Owensville Thrashing
Association. Paul was a charter member of Faith Assembly of God in Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Shelby Tutterrow; his parents,
Perry and Calumet Tutterow; brothers, Walter, George, Robert, Mervin and
Alden Tutterrow and sisters, Irene Carter and Ruth Schatz.
He is survived by his wife, Alene Tutterrow of Sullivan, Missouri; two sons,
Gene Tutterrow and wife Marsha of Sullivan, Missouri and Glen Tutterrow and
wife Debbie of Cuba, Missouri; one daughter, Sharon Hardecke and husband
Gary of Steelville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Curtis Tutterrow and wife

Matthew; two great grandchildren, Ian and Sydney Tutterrow; other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from Faith
Assembly of God in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastors Ronald Garner and Jeff
Peters officiating.
Interment followed in the Cave Spring Cemetery with full military honors.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
