Zella Bailie
Zella Mae Bailie, 73, died at 1:17 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004 at De Paul
Health Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born June 17, 1930, in Davisville, Missouri to Fred and Bertha
(Turnbough) Tinker.
She married Edward R. Bailie on December 16, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri.
He died February 16, 1976.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in South Roxana.
Surviving are four daughters and son-in-law, Glenda Wilkinson and fiancé,
Gerald Antoneshyn of Canada, Ronda Bailie and Sharon Mellenthin-Secor,
both of Wood River and Terry Craig Grubbs of Jacksonville, Florida.
Two sons and their wives: Jerry and Jan Bailie of Holiday, Florida and
Ricky and Tammy Bailie of Wood River.
Fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a sister Tina Woodham
of De Soto, Missouri, three brothers and their wives, Euel and Wanda
Tinker of Hillsboro, Missouri, Murel and Dorothy Tinker of St. Louis,
Missouri and Elwood and Vonnie Tinker of Bellhaven, North Carolina.
Four sisters-in-law, Wanda Tinker, Fenton, Missouri, Carol Tinker, Cuba
Missouri, Betty Grumaud, Pacific, Missouri and Thelma Tinker, Bellhaven,
North Carolina.
Several nieces, nephews and friends and a special friend, Phillip Bettis
of Jacksonville, Florida.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five
brothers, Henry, Clarence, Leonard, Fred and Kenneth Tinker and a sister
Wilma Faye Tinker.
Visitation was June 16, 2004 from 4-8 p.m. at Marks Mortuary in Wood
River, Illinois.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004 with the Rev.
Richard Clouse officiating.
Burial was at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana, Illinois.
Melba May Dulany
Melba May Dulany of Steelville, Missouri was born Friday, April 24, 1925
at Arcadia, Missouri, a daughter of the late William Winder and Myrtle
(Martin) Winder.
She departed this life Friday, July 9, 2004, at the home of her son and
daughter-in-law, Michael and Deloris Dulany, Cheney, Kansas, at the age of
79 years, 2 months and 15 days.
In addition to her parents, Melba was preceded in death by a son, James
Perkins; two sisters, Pat Conner and Rose Miles; and two brothers, Ronnie
Ward and Junior Winder.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two sons, Michael Dulany
and wife Delori of Cheney, Kansas and Richard Dulany of Farmington,
Missouri; four daughters, Pat Valenti of Arnold, Missouri, Carol Hart and
husband Glen of Anchorage, Alaska, Judy Tauchen and husband Henry of
Englewood, Colorado, and Donna Watson of St. Louis, Missouri; and one
brother, Gerald Ward of O'Fallon, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren;
fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
many friends who will fondly remember her.
Melba May Dulany lay in state 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2004, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were held at the Steelville Cemetery,
Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Daniel, David
and Benjamin Dulany, David and Michael Tauchen, Jeff and Devin Watson,
Robert and Mark Valenti. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of
Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Cecil Edgar
Cecil Edgar was born February 8, 1916, son of the late Pleas and Dora
Edgar. His young years were spent growing up on his parent's farm, living
close to nature.
On May 22, 1937, he joined in marriage to Alma Jones. They were married in
the home of Alma's pastor, Rev. John Reagan of Rock Hill Baptist Church in
St. Louis, Missouri. Four sons were born to this union.
Cecil was a serious minded worker in civil affairs. He graduated from
Civil Defense Police Auxiliary. He was elected a member of Maryland
Heights School Board for six years, five of those years as president of
the board. A new school was built during this time.
His great love was his Savior and church life. He was converted at a
revival meeting at Pleasant Point Church near Steelville, Missouri and
baptized in the Meramec River. Cecil and Alma moved to Maryland Heights in
1946.
There was no Baptist church there. Cecil and 15 others became charter
members of a new Maryland Heights Baptist Church. Starting in a donated
living room, it grew into a great church. Cecil was ordained as a deacon
there for some 56 years ago. In his church life, Cecil always taught and
worked with junior boys.
He was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the
USS General McRae, a troop transport, carrying thousands of troops. He
served in the European and Pacific Theater.
Cecil was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. He retired from
Ford Motor Company where he was employed for 34 years as production
control manager. His retirement years found him relocating to St. James,
Missouri.
Once settled into a new home, he worked at KTTR radio for four years.
He is survived by his wife Alma; four sons, Cecil L. and wife Margaret of
Kansas City, Missouri, Dennis and wife Nancy of Springfield, Missouri,
Keith of St. James, James and wife Beth of St. James.
He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Kevin, Ray, D.J., Philip, Kerry,
Travis, Brett and Meghan.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shannon and a brother,
Harold.
He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Brothers Elmer and wife Edina of Woodsen Terrace, Rueben and wife Opal of
Salem, Missouri.
Sisters Beulah Moline of Steelville, Missouri, Bonnie and husband Pete Lea
of Steelville, Missouri, Wanda Freie of Columbia, Missouri.
Jeffery Alan Land
Jeffery Alan Land of Steelville, Missouri, was born Sunday, September 12,
1954, at Granite City, Illinois, a son of Robert Lee Land, Jr. and Leota
Eunice (Carr) Land.
He departed this life at his home in Steelville, Missouri, Saturday, July
10, 2004, at the age of 49 years, 9 months and 10 days.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Leota Eunice Land and one
sister, Pamela Radtke.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted father, Robert
Lee Land, Jr.; one brother, Jon Carr of Indiana; two sisters, Rebecca
Mason and husband David, Debra Adams and husband Michael, also of Indiana;
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends
who will remember Jeff as a man whose passion was playing golf.
Jeffery Alan Land lay in state 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2004, in the Britton
Chapel, with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Musical selections were
provided by organist/vocalist, Doloris Bell and instrumental numbers by
acoustic guitarist, Bill Startz.
Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Jon Carr, Bob Bell, Chuck Held, Gary
Hudson, Paul Simmons, Chris Turnbough and Mark Mueller.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Irma Gladine Scull
Irma Gladine Hogan Scull nee Hogan of College Station, Texas, was born
Monday, June 26, 1922, at Boss, Missouri, a daughter of the late Melvin L.
Hogan and D. Mamie (Sellers) Hogan.
She departed this life Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the Kindred Hospital,
Houston, Texas, at the age of 82 years and 15 days.
On December 23, 1945, at Dillard, Missouri, Irma was united in marriage to
Charles Scull. One son and one daughter were born to this union. They have
enjoyed over 58 years together.
In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by one sister
Doloris Kesler Knox and three brothers, Thurston, Harry and Franklin
Hogan.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband,
Charles Scull of College Station, Texas; one son Gary Scull and wife
Brenda of Winfield, Missouri; one daughter, Brenda Giljum of Tomball,
Texas; two brothers, Jess Hogan and wife Erma Lee of Steelville, Missouri
and Paul Hogan of Cuba, Missouri; one sister, Betty Cowling of Troy,
Missouri; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Allen Scull and fiancée Kari
Sommer of Moberly, Missouri, Leticia Corinne Giljum Lowery of Pinchurst,
Texas and Sarah Elizabeth Scull of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Irma Gladine (Hogan) Scull lay in state 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004
at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. The eulogy was given by a niece,
Gail Young.
Committal prayers and interment were in Sellers Cemetery, Dillard,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Robert Cowling, Milton Cowling,
Forest Cowling, Gary Scull and Jeremiah Scull.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Phoebe A. Stephens
Phoebe A. Stephens, Warrenton, Missouri, passed away July 14, 2004 at
Warrenton Manor, Warrenton, Mo. She was born March 11, 1922, at
Coulterville, Illinois, the daughter of James and Edna Wade West.
Mrs. Stephens was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Warrenton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Stephens, and
ten brothers and sisters.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are two daughters, Donna (Louis)
Coyner of St. Charles, Mo., and Pam Hughes of Charlotte, N.C.; one
granddaughter, Julia (Patrick) Collins of O'Fallon, Mo.; three grandsons,
Jason Coyner of Affton, Mo., Patrick Mercer and Matthew Mercer, both of
Charlotte, N.C.
Phoebe A. Stephens was in state Thursday, July 15, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at
Pitman Funeral Home, Warrenton, Mo. Funeral services were held July 16,
2004 at 10 a.m. at Pitman Chapel, with Rev. Raymond Doussard officiating.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2004 at
Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo.
