George Henry Bonner
George Henry Bonner was born Friday, October 23, 1914, in
Pleasant Plains, Arkansas to the late Rachel Ann Bonner (nee Altom)
and Albert Reed Bonner.
He entered eternal rest Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the Missouri
Veterans Home, St. James, Missouri, at the age of 90 years, 8 months
and 16 days.
Henry entered the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), serving
almost a year before joining the United States Navy, December 14,
1937. He received an Honorable Discharge January 13, 1939 from the
U.S. Naval Hospital, Mare Island, California.
November 20, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, Henry entered into
marriage to Anna Marie Hewkin, daughter of the late Opal and
Clifford Hewkin. Four children were born to this union, two sons,
George Ronald Bonner and John Reed Bonner and two daughters, Jo Anna
Bonner and Deborah Bonner.
Henry was a 50-year member of the Sheet-metal Union. He worked
for McDonald-Douglas as a sheet metal riveter until retirement. He
was the owner and operator of Bonner's Automotive and Electrical
Shop in Davisville for several years.
In addition to his parents and his mother-in-law and
father-in-law Opal and Cliff Hewkin, he was preceded in death by one
son, George Ronald "Ronnie" Bonner and three brothers, Loren "Bob"
Bonner, Herman Leroy Bonner and Thomas Earl Bonner and wife
Marchell; and two sisters, Myrtle Batz-Haufle and husband Ralph and
Lucy Pasley and husband Ben.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife
of 63 years Marie Bonner of the home in Davisville, Missouri; two
daughters, Jo Anna Bonner of Cuba, Missouri and Deborah Bonner of
Davisville, Missouri; one son, John Reed Bonner and wife Kathy of
Pacific, Missouri.
Seven grandchildren, Tracy Hyde of Brandon, Florida, Charles Reed
Bonner and wife Rebekah of Richwoods, Missouri, Joan Kristen Solano
of Ruskin, Florida, John Michael Bonner, Hope Davis and husband
Tommy, all of Catawissa, Missouri; Sean Patrick Bonner of
Davisville, Missouri, Faith Oliver and husband Keith of St. Charles,
Missouri.
Also remaining are eight great grandchildren, Tyler Michael Hyde
of Brandon, Florida, Jacob Solano of Ruskin, Florida, Elizabeth Ann
Marie Bonner of Richwoods, Missouri, Charles Allen Smith of Fenton,
Missouri, Holly Anna Oliver and Luke Oliver, both of St. Charles,
Missouri; Sammy Kathleen Davis and Baily Reed Davis, of Catawissa,
Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many
friends.
George Henry Bonner lay in state 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2005
at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 in the
Britton Chapel with Rev. John Slade officiating and Rev. H.E. "Gene"
Thrasher assisting.
Committal prayers and interment was in First Baptist Church
Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were John
Bonner, Charles R. Bonner, Sean Bonner, Jason Hewkin, Kevin Hewkin
and Tom Davis.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
David Eugene Center
David Eugene Center was born Friday, December 10, 1937 at
Waynesville, Missouri, a son of the late Virgil Eugene Center and
Madge M. (Harmon) Center.
He departed this life Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Phelps County
Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri at the age 67 years, 6
months and 25 days.
In 1959, at the First Baptist Church of Cuba, David was united in
marriage to Virginia Marie Thomas. To this union one son, Mike
Center, was born. David loved the outdoors and would often be found
either hunting or fishing. He loved good food, good music, and
especially loved good friends.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Virginia
Marie (Thomas) Center of Steelville, Missouri; one son Mike Center
of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Sharon Payne and husband Bill
of Steelville, Missouri and Shirley Peterson and husband Sonny of
Wyoming; granddaughter Heather Center of Steelville, Missouri;
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
David Eugene Center lay in state 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2005 at
the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral
services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were Jim Dobkins, Greg Farwig, Tim Harris,
Leon Landgraf, Pete Righter and Bill Shrum.
Committal prayers and interment were in the Liberty Cemetery,
Steelville, Missouri.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Britton Funeral
Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Robert "Bob" Cowell Eaton
Robert "Bob" Eaton was born Wednesday, August 7, 1940 at
Steelville, Missouri, a son of Hazel Lorraine Eaton and the late
James Bascom Eaton.
He entered eternal rest Monday, July 4, 2005 at his home in
Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 27 days.
Bob served the community and the City of Steelville in his many
civic capacities as alderman, mayor, city utilities worker and
electrical contractor, and a member of the Board of Directors of
Meramec Music Theatre.
If Bob were to leave a legacy, it would be his gift as a
"prankster". There are very few of Bob's family and friends that
hadn't at one time or another been the recipient of his many pranks.
Throughout the coming years as our memories keep unfolding, those
stories will be carried on from generation to generation leaving the
ring of laughter by another one who happen to remember "another one
of Bob's pranks".
In addition to his father, Bob was preceded in death by his
brother James "Rosco" Eaton and a special brother James "Red" Eaton.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving
daughter Debbie Watkins and husband John of St. James, Missouri;
mother and step-father Hazel and Bob Huff of Steelville, Missouri;
two sisters Dolores "Dode" Harmon and husband James and Lavonda
White and husband Barry, all of Steelville, Missouri.
Sister-in-laws Judy Eaton of St. Louis, Missouri and Pauline
Eaton of Cuba, Missouri; special aunt Ruth Garms of Steelville,
Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many
friends.
Robert "Bob" Cowell Eaton lay in state 2-9 p.m. Thursday, July 7,
2005 at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 8, 2005 at the First
Assembly of God Church, Steelville, Missouri with Pastor Jerry Beers
officiating and Rev. Joe Massey and Rev. Larry Martin assisting.
Musical selections were provided by Bob and Carol Coleman, Bruce
Turnbough, Jerry Beers, Kenny, Kaycee and Kristopher Cain.
Honoring Bob as pallbearers were Jimmy, Lance and Lucas Harmon,
Todd and Sonny Martin, Spank Summers, Ronnie Mason, Heath Stites,
Jason White, Nick and Christopher Eaton.
Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Brooks, Sr., Tommy Brooks, Jr.,
Bryer and Hunter Summers, Larry Martin, Caleb and Levi Martin,
Derrick Dorus, Phillip Stites, Kenny Payne, Andrew Logan and Luke
Payne, Dennis Callhan, Gabriel White and Douglas Harmon.
Committal prayers and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery,
Steelville, Missouri.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Britton Bros.
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Jo Ellen Finkelstein
Jo Ellen Finkelstein, 47, died on July 9, 2005, at the Oak Forest
Nursing Center, in Ballwin, Missouri. She was born on October 29,
1957, to Arthur Edward Pursley and Alice Aemisegger Pursley in
Kirkwood, Missouri. On October 29, 1994, she married Bruce Edward
Finkelstein, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her mother, Alice Graham, of Steelville,
Missouri; two sisters, Sharon Pillman, of Pompano Beach, Florida,
and Carol Clark of Piano, Texas; a brother, John Pursley, and
sister-in-law, Janie Pursley of Butler, Missouri.
Four nieces, Dawn Smith (Tracy), Karma Clark, Jessica Kidwell
(Jeremiah), and Megan Pursley; two nephews, Keith Clark and John
Pursley III; two great nieces, Story Smith and Sierra Smith; and
numerous other relatives and friends.
Jo Ellen obtained a nursing degree and worked as a visiting nurse
for several years until she was stricken with transverse myelitis at
the age of 39, which left her with numerous health problems and
paralysis from the waist down.
Jo Ellen greatly enjoyed fantasy fiction, feeding the birds,
angels, and her family. She especially loved getting pictures from
her great nieces and giving to others. A woman of great
intelligence, Jo Ellen was loved not only for her tremendous sense
of humor, but also for her amazing stubbornness, qualities which
allowed her to stoically endure her steadily worsening health for
eight years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church, Steelville,
Missouri, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2005.
Steven Paul "Stevie" Hughes
Steven Paul (Stevie) Hughes, Jr. of Bourbon, Missouri, passed
away Friday, July 8, 2005 at the age of 16 years.
Stevie, as he was known by his family and friends, was born at
Sullivan, Missouri on June 10, 1989 to Steven and Connie (Watring)
Hughes, Sr. He had lived his entire life in Bourbon, Missouri and
was a student at Bourbon High School and was looking forward to
entering his sophomore year. Stevie had a passion for computers and
for the sport of Hockey. He was known as a young man who was easy
going, had a big heart and always there to help anyone in need.
Stevie came to know the Lord, Jesus Christ and was baptized, with
his Dad, on July 9, 2001.
Surviving along with his parents, Steven and Connie Hughes of
Bourbon are two sisters, Tricia Cobb and husband Kelly of Leasburg,
Missouri and Misty Bouse and husband Stephen of Bourbon, maternal
grandmother, Catherine Adams of Stanton, Missouri, paternal
grandparents, Paul and Lisa Hughes of Cuba, Missouri, a niece and
nephew Chloe and Keegan Cobb, special friend Andri Gutermuth, other
relatives and many friends.
Preceding Stevie in death were his maternal grandfathers, Russell
Watring and Jim Adams, and paternal grandmother, Pauline Hughes
Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2005
from the Eaton Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 301 Sappington Bridge
Road, Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Michael Jean officiating.
Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery.
Jeffrey Scott Phipps
Jeffrey Scott Phipps of Lakeland, Florida was born Friday,
March 21, 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of Everett Eugene Phipps
and Evelyn Mae (Wilkinson) Phipps.
He entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 3, 2005 at the Lakeland
Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Florida after a short illness, at
the age of 36 years, 3 months and 12 days.
Jeff loved being on the water, from deep sea fishing and water
skiing to para sailing. Jeff's idea of a vacation with his family
always included being out on the water. When there was no water
available, bungee jumping was another sport he enjoyed. He also
liked to test drive expensive new cars.
Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harley "Buck" and
Laura (Bohannon) Phipps.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his parents,
Everett and Evelyn Phipps of Cherryville, Missouri; two brothers,
Everett Phipps, Jr. and wife Bridget of Cherryville, Missouri and
Darrell Phipps and wife Cindy of Union, Missouri; grandparents Fred
and Wilma Wilkinson of St. Louis, Missouri; niece and nephew Brianna
Phipps and Adam Phipps of Cherryville, Missouri; aunts, uncles,
cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Jeffrey Scott Phipps lay in state 3-9 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005
at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 8, 2005 in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Harrison Brown and Rev. Dwight Barton officiating.
Musical selections were provided by Bob and Carol Coleman
accompanied by Shirley Brown on the piano.
Committal prayers and interment were in the Martin Cemetery,
Cherryville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Everett Phipps,
Jr., Darrell Phipps, Donald Phipps, Freddie Wilkinson, Jeff Brandt
and Roger Lee Boyd.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Bros. Funeral
Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Glenna Pauline Pitts
Glenna Pauline Pitts, nee Harmon, of Cook Station, Missouri was
born on Saturday, January 19, 1935 in Salem, Missouri to Lester and
Alma Matlock Harmon. She passed away at home in Cook Station,
Missouri on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the age of 70 years, 5
months and 25 days.
She was married to Eldon "Monroe" Pitts on September 9, 1954 at
Crown Point, Indiana and to this union six children were born.
Glenna worked at Salem Hospital years ago, later as a seamstress
in Salem, Missouri and St. James, Missouri and last before retiring
worked as a school bus driver and cook at the Steelville R-3
Elementary School.
Glenna accepted the Lord at age 12 and was a member of the Canaan
Community Church in Cook Station, Missouri.
Glenna enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning (especially jelly).
She loved her family and was very proud of her children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers J.M. Harmon
and Wayne Lee Harmon, sister Charlotte Harmon, brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law Floyd Clay, Cecil Pitts, Owanna Pitts, Glen Pitts,
Lucian Moore, Afton and Delores Pitts, Thomas Hicks, Darwin "Skip"
McKellips and James Pitts.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her children Nola
Dorton, Dale Pitts and wife Teri, Michael Pitts and wife Paula, all
of Cook Station, Missouri, Richard Pitts and wife Lori, Brian Pitts
and wife Angela, all of Steelville, Missouri, Melina Vernon and
husband Curtis of Cook Station, Missouri, and Frank Pitts of
Eminence, Missouri.
Brothers Clark Harmon and wife Mary of Salem, Missouri and
Winfred Harmon and wife Jean of Collinsville, Oklahoma; sister Eva
Privett and husband Bill of Salem, Missouri; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law Stella Clay, Helen Pitts, Pershing Pitts, Judy Pitts,
Reba Moore, Walter and Delores Pitts, Robert and Roberta Pitts,
Shirley and Larry Cothran, Florence Hicks, and Doretta Pitts.
Grandchildren Myra and Randy Harmon, Casey and Dawn Reed, Hannah
and Billy Rose, Bart Reed (girlfriend Christine Thompson), Emily
Cape, Brittoni Cape, Jessi Cape, Molly Quinton (boyfriend Brad
Harris), Nathan and Faith Pitts, Clay Pitts (girlfriend Donna
Pontious), Emerald Pitts, Paul Pitts, Ashton Pitts, Lacey Pitts,
Courtney Pitts, Shelby Pitts, Dakota Pitts, Olivia Pitts, Kendall
Vernon, Mariah Vernon and Melody Vernon.
Great grandchildren Devan Harmon, Ethan Harmon, Abigail Harmon,
Morgan Reed, Ceclia Reed, Colton Rose, Logan Rose, Hunter Reed,
Cheyenne Quinton and Troy Pitts; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many
friends.
Visitation was Friday, July 15, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. at Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Brother Casey Reed
officiating. Burial in the Glenna Harmon Pitts Family Cemetery, Cook
Station, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Gloria Marie Rawie
Gloria Marie Rawie, nee Hrdlicka, was born Saturday, May 9, 1959
in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph William Hrdlicka and Joyce Louise
Walta Hrdlicka and departed this life Thursday, July 14, 2005 at her
home at the age of 46 years, 2 months and 5 days.
Gloria graduated from Ursuline Academy High School in St. Louis,
Missouri. She married John N. Rawie IV on April 12, 1980 in St.
Louis, Missouri and they made their home together for a little over
25 years.
Gloria and John left St. Louis and moved to Steelville, Missouri
about a year ago after she suffered a severe heart attack. She
attended college after they married and was completing her degree to
become a schoolteacher. She worked many years as an executive
secretary and most recently as a receptionist at Barnes Jewish
Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri until her health failed forcing her
into early retirement.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother and
maternal grandparents, and brother-in-law Ben Rawie.
She is survived by her husband John Rawie of Steelville,
Missouri; her parents Joseph William and Joyce Hrdlicka Jr. of St.
Louis, Missouri; grandfather, Joseph William Hrdlicka Sr.; brother,
Joseph William Hrdlicka II of St. Louis, Missouri and sister Laura
Brinkley and husband Jeffrey of Ballwin, Missouri.
Parents-in-law John and Margaret Rawie III of St. Louis,
Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ruth Day, Sandie
Wirthlin and husband Ken, all of St. Louis, Missouri and Lisa
Schulte and husband Kurt of Steelville, Missouri; aunts, uncles,
nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends all who will fondly
remember and sadly miss Gloria Marie Hrdlicka Rawie.
Visitation was from 10 am. until 1 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2005 at
the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Father James
Finder officiating.
It was her wishes to be cremated following the service.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral
Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Jessie Leonard Ware
Jessie Leonard Ware of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Wednesday,
July 6, 2005 at St. Louis University Medical Center at the age of 62
years.
Mr. Ware was born April 13, 1943 at Cherryville, Missouri to
Fannie (Lea) Ware and the late Franklin Ware. He had lived the
majority of his life in the Bourbon area with a short time in St.
Louis. Mr. Ware was employed with various companies in the area
including Mid-America Shoe, Paramount Apparel and the Bourbon Car
Wash.
He enjoyed going to the family farm where he would spend hours
finding pleasure in doing just about anything that needed to be
done.
Mr. Ware was known as a person who didn't know a stranger and was
a friend to all.
He is survived by two sons, Shannon Ware and wife Marilyn and
Robbie Ware and wife Stacey, all of Sullivan, Missouri. One
daughter Sherri Tullock and husband Ed of Seymour, Missouri, his
mother Fannie Ware of Cherryville, Missouri. One sister Judy
Loveless of Cuba, Missouri; four brothers, Loyd Ware and wife,
Jackie Virvine Ware and Curtis Ware and wife, Grace, all of
Cherryville, Missouri; Bill Ware and wife Marilyn of Steelville,
Missouri.
Eight grandchildren, Laura, Christopher, Megan, RaeAnn and Kylee
Ware; Matt, Sarah and Libby Tullock; nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005
from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon, Missouri with Pastor Gary
Nash officiating.
Interment was in the Delhi Cemetery, rural Cuba, Missouri.
