Wanda Lee Bailey
Wanda Lee Bailey, nee Dace, of Sullivan, Missouri, was born
September 29, 1927 at Springfield, Illinois to Fredrick and Margarett
(Rue) Dace and passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the age
of 85 years.
Following her mother’s death in 1928, she and her sister, Evelyn Ruth
were brought to their grandmother and Uncle Lewis’ to live in
Berryman, Missouri. Following their passing they returned to
Springfield, Illinois where Wanda attended and graduated from
Springfield High School.
After graduation she relocated to Sullivan, Missouri where she met
Larry “Pete” Bailey. They were united in marriage on August 16, 1944
at Union, Missouri and two sons were born.
Wanda was saved at an early age and baptized into Berryman Baptist
Church. She knew Jesus was her forever Savior. She enjoyed her
life, her home, dear friends, long time neighbors and family from
both sides.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Margarett
Dace; her husband, Pete Bailey; one son, Larry D. Bailey, Jr.; one
grandson, Timothy Andrew Bailey and one sister, Evelyn Ruth Dace
Harper.
She is survived by one son, Rick Bailey and wife Rita of Bourbon,
Missouri; three grandchildren, Rick Bailey, Jr. and wife Rachel,
Larry Blair who they raised as their own, and Jamie LeRanza; great
grandchildren, Meghan Blair, Rita Jean, Randi and Ricky Bailey,
Jacqueline, Jillian and Rudy LeRanza; sisters-in-law, Florence
Lattimore and June Sites; brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrell and
LaRae Bailey and George and Anna Belle Bailey; special neighbors,
Roy and Nancy Clark, Matt and Jason; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at noon Monday, July 22, 2013 from
Meramec Valley Baptist Church, Sullivan, Missouri with Pastors
Richard and Eric Williams officiating.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Bernice Aletha Branstetter
Bernice Aletha Branstetter of St. James, Missouri was born on
September 13, 1927 to Blevie Milton and Ethel May Underwood Lorts
and passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 in Cuba, Missouri at the
age of 85 years.
On March 21, 1948, she was united in marriage to Arthur Quinten
Branstetter at the St. James Christian Church. Quinten preceded her
in death August 10, 1999.
Being a farmer’s wife, Bernice shared the work of the farm beside
her husband Quinten and remained on the farm until the end of her
life. She was a faithful lifetime member of the St. James Christian
Church. She worked for Hutcheson Ford for 28 years under the
leadership of Guy Hutcheson and later she worked for Butch Tucker.
Bernice was very involved in starting the Evening Star 4-H and was a
leader for over 25 years spending many hours working with children.
She was an excellent seamstress making her own clothes and many
clothes for her granddaughter. Bernice was very active in the
community, helping at the St. James Grape and Fall Festival and
making her pies for the Golden Age Center. She was the treasurer
for the St. James Ambulance Service for many years, and could be
seen working at the Jones Funeral Home on Friday mornings.
She is survived by son, Dennis Branstetter and his wife Karen of
St. James, Missouri; one brother, Kenneth (Bud) Lorts of St. James,
Missouri; two grandchildren, Jennifer Pregracke and her husband Brent
of Makanda, Illinois and Andrew Branstetter of St. James, Missouri;
one great-granddaughter, Cecelia Pregracke; sister-in-law, Glenda
Davis and husband Jack of Haughton, Louisiana; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Jones
Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013
at the Jones Funeral Home with Rick Mosher of the Licking Christian
Church and Scott Fitch of the St. James Christian Church officiating.
Pallbearers were Andrew Branstetter, Steve Lorts, Brian Adams, Mike
Tucker, Larry Lorts and Wayne Talbert.
Burial was in the St. James Cemetery.

St. James, Missouri.
Carman Lee “Frog” Halbert
Carman Lee “Frog” Halbert of Steelville, Missouri was born
October 24, 1942 in Crawford County to Carman Loyd and Mary Lee
Waller Halbert and passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Gibbs
Care Center at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 25 days.
On November 15, 1960, he was united in marriage to Wanda Taylor and
to this union four children were born.
“Frog” served honorably in the U.S. Air Force and retired
October 31, 1986 after 26 years.
He had accepted Christ several months ago.
“Frog” loved to ride horses and would always be seen in the parade
on his horse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carman and Mary Halbert;
brother and sisters-in-law, Jim Taylor and wife Elaine and Pauline
Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Halbert of Steelville, Missouri;
three sons, Kevin Halbert and wife Fran and Keith Halbert, all of
Steelville, Missouri and Kelly Halbert and wife Sharlene of Choctaw,
Oklahoma; one daughter, Katie Halbert of Steelville, Missouri; two
brothers, Roger Halbert and wife Lena of Steelville, Missouri and
Rodney Halbert and wife Lynn of Rolla, Missouri; two sisters, Joan
Summers and husband John of Cedar Hill, Missouri and Joyce Sutherland
of Steelville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Chad, Seth, Josh and
Ashley Halbert; one great grandchild, Emery Rose Shackelford;
brothers-in-law, Bill Taylor of Austin, Texas, John Taylor and wife
Carolyn of Steelville, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Mildred Farmer and
husband Lee of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Georgia Helderman and husband
Wayne of White Water, Missouri and Patsy Havens and husband John of
St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday,
July 20, 2013 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville,
Missouri.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at
the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev.
Rod Farthing officiating. Special music of “Amazing Grace,” “I Saw
the Light” and “The Old Rugged Cross was played.
Committal prayer, interment and full military honors with the
U.S. Air Force were in the Steelville Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Rod Halbert, Kevin Halbert, Josh Halbert, Rodney
Halbert, Kelly Halbert and John Summers.

Joseph D. Hart
Joseph D. Hart of Vichy, Missouri was born February 19, 1945 in
St. Louis, Missouri and passed away July 18, 2013 in Rolla, Missouri
at the age of 68 years.
Joseph enjoyed hunting and traveling. He spent the majority of his
life living in Maries County.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dick Hart in 2005 and brother,
Kenneth Hart.
He is survived by his mother, Opal Hart; brothers, Oscar Hart and
wife Barbara of Vichy, Missouri and Paul Hart and wife Rebecca of
Vichy, Missouri; sister, Jama Briggs and husband Ronald of Belle,
Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the James &
Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri.
Graveside services were held on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at
the Macedonia Cemetery near Rolla, Missouri with Rev. Steve Brubaker
officiating.

Rilla Frances Helms
Frances Helms of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Cassville, Missouri
on January 23, 1925 to George Jefferson and Ethel Mamie (Gough) Bray
and passed away at the Life Care of Sullivan, Missouri on Sunday,
July 14, 2013 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 20 days.
She was raised in the Fountain Farm area near Potosi, Missouri. She
worked in various jobs throughout her life, which included Brown Shoe
Company in Potosi, was a homemaker for a time and later worked in
food service at Washington County Memorial Hospital.
She was a strong and proud woman who raised her children on her own
as her husband, Irvin, was a career Naval officer and he would be
stationed in various parts of the country as a recruiter. After his
retirement from the service, the family made their home in Potosi and
in 1974 moved to St. Joseph, Missouri and then later to Bourbon,
Missouri.
After the death of Irvin, she moved to Sullivan, Missouri. Frances
was very proud of her accomplishments in TOPS and was an advocate
of the organization. She enjoyed volunteer work, playing cards
(especially Canasta), traveling and fishing. Frances was a member
and past Noble Grand of Sullivan Rebekah Lodge #319 and had also held
several other offices within the lodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ethel Bray; three
brothers, Andy, Henry and Walter Bray and three sisters, Dorothy
Maddox, Wilma Minor and Mary Branson.
She is survived by two sons, George Helms and wife Jennifer of Glenco,
Kentucky and Ronnie Helms and wife Jennifer of Columbia, North
Carolina; two daughters, Alona Norton of Port Aransas, Texas and
Barbara Harmon and husband Tony of Colville, Washington; one sister,
Lena Northcutt of St. Clair, Missouri; seven grandchildren; four great
grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of service on Thursday,
July 18, 2013 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013
from the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Scott
Perry officiating.
Interment was in the Red Bud Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.

Ida Mae Licklider
Ida Mae Licklider of Cuba, Missouri was born to Walter and Sarah
(Enloe) Pinnell on September 19, 1918 in Crawford County, Missouri
and passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at her daughter’s home in
Foley, Missouri at the age of 94 years.
Ida was united in marriage to Solomon B. Licklider on October 19, 1940
in Steelville, Missouri and to this union five children were born.
Ida was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafts and
spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sarah Pinnell;
husband, Solomon B. Licklider; four brothers, Earl, Frank, John and
George Pinnell.
She is survived by five children, Lloyd and wife Betty Licklider of
Cuba, Missouri, Jim and wife Connie Licklider of Owensville, Missouri,
Juanita and husband Fred Horstman of Foley, Missouri, Charles and wife
Marilyn Licklider of Cuba, Missouri, Kathy and husband Corky Stack of
St. James, Missouri; one sister, Gladyne Riddle of Cuba, Missouri;
one brother, Jimmy Pinnell of St. Ann, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 26
great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at the
Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. at
the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Mark Payne,
officiating.
Interment followed at the Licklider Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lance Stack, John and David Licklider, Bill and Randy
Horstman, Donnie Schwartz, Amos King, Daniel Buttig and Travis Hunter.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba,
Missouri.
Kathleen Decker McCann
Kathleen Decker McCann was born February 9, 1942 in Steelville,
Missouri to James W. and Bernice (McBenge) Decker and passed away
July 15, 2013 at the age of 71 years.
In 1964, Kathy married Howard McCann and to this union two children
were born years.
After graduating from Steelville High School in 1960, Kathy earned
college degrees in rural sociology, social science and education. She
returned to the Steelville School system to teach social studies for
37 years. After her retirement, she served on the Steelville School
Board, City Council, Gibbs Care Center Board, MRPC Board and other
community committees.
Kathy loved helping her students throughout the years. She traveled
with her husband, listened to music, enjoyed reading and researching
and dedicated much time to local committees and projects. She had a
passion for her community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; and her parents,
James and Bernice Decker.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy McCann and husband Gary Crapenhoft
of Columbia, Missouri; her son, Robert McCann and wife Ashley of Nixa,
Missouri; grandchildren, Kaden, Riley, Kelby and Rowen of Nixa,
Missouri; sister, Jane Crum of Rolla, Missouri; brother, Jim Decker
of Kennett, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013
at the Steelville Presbyterian Church in Steelville, Missouri.
The Reverends John Welton of the Presbyterian Church and Jerry Beers
of the Assembly of God Church will conduct the service. Music provided
by Jerry Beers and Deloris Bell.

Donald Paul Norris
Donald Paul Norris of St. James, Missouri was born February 11, 1948
in St. James, Missouri to Clarence and Dorothy (Shuey) Norris and
passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his home at the age of 65 years.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army during
the Vietnam War from 1967-1970.
On September 11, 1982 he married Nancy Hildebrand.
Donald had a deep love for God and family. Until his illness he
really enjoyed jail ministry and teaching the word of God to others.
He was a Deacon at the 1st Assembly of God Church in St. James where
he was a longtime member.
He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and woodworking. He was a very
skilled hand crafter, making beautiful furniture for their home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; brothers, David,
Dale, and Wayne Norris; and sister, June Edmonds.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Norris of St. James, Missouri;
wife, Nancy of their home; children, Joshua Norris and wife Jamie
of Sullivan, Missouri and Sabrina Merritt of St. James, Missouri,
Isaac Norris of the home, Tina Norris of Rolla, Missouri, Shelli
Vitale of St. Peters, Missouri; grandchildren, Layla, Aubrianna,
Bryce and Brayden; sisters, Barb Underwood and husband Leland of
Safe, Missouri, Janet Colvin and husband Lenny of St. James, Missouri,
Debbie Loughridge and husband Steve of Rolla, Missouri, Linda Carlton,
Brenda McGranhan and husband Jim of Kentucky, Karen Carter and husband
Bill of Licking, Missouri; brothers, Warren Norris and wife Patty of
Licking, Missouri, Marvin Norris and wife Mary of St. James, Missouri;

Visitation was Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the St. James
Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the 1st
Assembly of God Church in St. James, Missouri with Reverend Mick
Thrasher officiating.
Interment was in the Asher Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Jared Norris, Avery Norris, Billy Varner, Kyle
Hildebrand, Doug Loughridge and Robert Norris. Honorary pallbearers
were Joe Loughridge and Mark Norris.

Varble “Bo” Parsons
Varble “Bo” Parsons of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Tuesday,
July 16, 2013 at the age of 51 years, 2 months and 11 days.
Bo was born at Advance, Missouri and raised in Greenville. She later
moved to Pacific, Missouri where she graduated high school.
Bo married Rick Parsons, Sr. and made their home in Villa Ridge,
Missouri for a time.
She was a stay-at-home mom for several years. During this time she
went to clown school and learned to perform as BoBo the clown. She
would perform at parties, church functions and nursing homes just to
name a few of her venues. Bo later moved to Sullivan, Missouri where
she was employed at Havin Materials for 15 years.
She was married to Steven Hathman for a time and made her home in
Sullivan, Missouri.
Bo later worked for Boast Enterprises as a secretary. She was a hard
working and dedicated woman to make ends meet. She was full of life
and always had a smile. People were drawn to her as she had a
compassionate spirit. Her life revolved around her family as they
came first in her life and she dearly loved her grandchildren. Bo
loved music too and enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She also
composed several songs; many of which have been sung at weddings and
funerals. Bo attended Faith Assembly of God in Sullivan and would
often sing to the Senior Saints at church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ota (Ennest)
Crutchfield; and two brothers, A.C. and Harold Crutchfield.
She is survived by three sons, Ricky Parsons, Jr. and wife Christina,
Nathan Parsons and wife Kerry, Shelby Hathman, all of Sullivan,
Missouri; three grandchildren, Lucas, Brynn and Nora Parsons; six
brothers, James Crutchfield of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Elmar
Crutchfield of West Monroe, Louisiana, Melvin Crutchfield of
Greenville, Missouri, Thomas Crutchfield of Greenville, Missouri,
Raymond Crutchfield of Advance, Missouri, Jessie Crutchfield of
Fenton, Missouri; three sisters, Lora Gumpert of South Haven,
Arkansas, Leigh McFall of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Peggy
Crutchfield of Greenfield, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Faith
Assembly of God in Sullivan, Missouri and on Saturday, July 20, 2013
from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013
from Faith Assembly of God in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Jeff
Peters officiating.
Interment was in the Stanton Cemetery.

John Mathias Rathgeb III
John Mathias Rathgeb, III of Royal Palm Beach, Florida was born to
John and Sue (Slowensky) Rathgeb on March 8, 1970 in Garden City,
Michigan and passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at the age of 43 years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clara and Joe Slowensky;
great grandparents, Mayme and Rhinehard Stephan; great great
grandparents, Letha and Lon Bass; great great great grandparents,
Martha and Israel Brickey, all of Crawford County; one brother,
Jeffrey Blake Rathgeb.
He is survived by his parents, Dr. John M. and Sue (Slowensky)
Rathgeb; one sister, Toni and husband Gary Savage; one niece, Lauren
Mattox; one uncle, Teddy Slowensky, all of Royal Palm Beach, Florida;
other relatives and friends.
Memorial visitation will held Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 10 a.m.
until time of Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home
in Cuba, Missouri.
Inurnment will follow at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

David William Rector, Sr.
David William Rector, Sr. of St. James, Missouri was born Saturday,
September 6, 1947 at St. Louis, Missouri to Burton and Bertha
(nee Palmer) Rector and passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at his
home in St. James, Missouri at the age of 65 years.
David was united in marriage to Barbara on May 15, 1975 at Anderson,
Missouri and to this union came nine children.
David worked as a taxi cab drive in his younger years, that’s how he
met Barb, before becoming a dump truck driver for many years. David
enjoyed watching old western movies especially one with Dale Rogers
and John Wayne. He owned a beautiful green 1971 Ford F100 that was
called “Papa’s Pickup.” They went to car shows and he even won first
place in Belle, Missouri. He spent hours outside with the boys and
family playing horseshoes and ball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Bertha Rector;
brother, Charles Burton Rector; son, Timothy Allen Rector; and
grandson, Jeremie William Rector, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Rector of the home; children,
Tonya Lee and partner Rick Rhoades of Sullivan, Missouri, David
William Rector, Jr. of Jefferson City, Missouri, Christie Lynn and
husband John Surface of St. Roberts, Missouri, Scottie William Rector
and partner Tiffany Huddox of St. James, Missouri, Burton William
Rector and wife Kelly of St. James, Missouri, Barbara Lynn Rector of
Kalamazoo, Michigan, Charles Burton Rector of St. James, Missouri and
Jeremie William Rector and wife Klarissa of St. James, Missouri;
grandchildren, Ryan Allen, Rishell, Kathleen, Dakota Wade, Larretta

the Wishon Cemetery, St. James, Missouri with Pastor Norman Heironimus
officiating. Special music for the graveside service was
“Amazing Grace” and “I Saw the Light” by Rodger Bridgeman, Jr.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
Lillian Fay Reed
Lillian Fay Reed of Columbia, Missouri formerly of St. James, Missouri
was born in Lanes Prairie, Missouri on November 18, 1910 to Ensley
and Eva (Clark) Bryan and passed away Friday, July 15, 2013 at South
Hampton Place in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 102 years.
On January 14, 1928 she married Walter Reed and to this union six
children were born.
Lillian loved gardening, and in the spring and summer months you
could always find her tending to both flower and vegetable gardens.
She enjoyed the beautiful vegetable garden and sharing her bounty with
neighbors and friends before canning for the long winter months ahead.
She also was an avid cook, and enjoyed baking her famous bread.
Lillian was a member of the Eastern Star for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ensley and Eva Bryan; her
husband, Walter in 1999 and two infant children.
She is survived by her children, Roland Reed and wife Sylvia of
Centreville, Maryland, Jim Reed and wife Bonnie of Jonesboro, Arkansas,
Eliza Jane Reed of Columbia, Missouri and Kathryn Hayden and husband
Jim of St. Peters, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren;
five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. James Chapel
of The James & Gahr Mortuary.
Funeral service was held Monday, July 15, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the
St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Gary Bartle
officiating.
Interment was in the College Hills Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary,
St. James, Missouri.
