Alberta Gwen Larrison
Alberta Gwen Larrison of Sullivan passed away on Friday, July 21, 2000 at
the age of 44 years.
Mrs. Larrison was born on March 16, 1956 in Steelville, Mo. to Oliver and
Charlotte (Litty) Licklider. She was raised in Steelville, and graduated
from Steelville High School. On June 9, 1979 she was joined in holy
matrimony to Joseph T. Larrison, Jr. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in
Sullivan, and to this union two children were born. Being a multitalented
person, Gwen worked in several areas as well as serving her family as a
homemaker. She worked for eight years as manager of Shoney's Restaurant in
Sullivan, and for ten years operated the Robin's Nest Day Care Center in
Sullivan. She found pleasure in cooking, baking, gardening, singing, and
fishing. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in
Sullivan. Gwen's life revolved around her husband, children, and extended
family. She demonstrated a deep love and respect for both of her parents.
She also has been described as a woman who was extremely devoted to anyone
who needed her to the point of doing without.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph T. Larrison, Jr. of Sullivan; one
son, Joseph T. Larrison, IV of Sullivan; one daughter, Angelica C. Larrison
of Sullivan; her parents, Oliver and Charlotte Licklider of Steelville,
Mo.; one brother, Orville Licklider and wife, Lisa of Steelville, Mo.; four
sisters, Evonne Trowbridge and husband, Tom of Rockford, Illinois; Alexies
Marshall, Charlotte Brooks, and Charita Bunch and husband, John, all of
Steelville, Mo.; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24,
2000 from the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with Reverend Father
Theodore Brunnert officiating. Interment was in St. Anthony Parish
Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to BJC Hospice in memory of
Mrs. Gwen Larrison.
Dorothy Stein
Dorothy Stein nee Spreng of Cuba, Mo. was born on December 21, 1921 at Iowa
City, Iowa to the union of the late John Henry Spreng and Mary M. Spreng
and passed away on July 19, 2000 at the Phelps County Regional Medical
Center of Rolla, Mo. at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 17 days.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Peter "Pete" Stein in Rolla, Mo. One son,
Don, was born to this union. They were happily married until Pete preceded
Dorothy in death on October 28, 1998.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her son, Don
Stein and wife Wanda; two grandsons Anthony and Shawn Stein; two brothers
Don and Frank Spreng; one sister Helen Sheets; other relatives and many
friends.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, good friend
to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Dorothy Stein nee Spreng was in state at the Britton Funereal Home of Cuba,
Mo. on Friday, July 21, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Ledbetter
officiating. Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. with Britton
Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. in charge of all arrangements.
Nellie Ferguson
Nellie Ferguson (nee Cook) was born Saturday, January 11, 1902, in Crawford
County, Mo., a daughter of the late Alfred W. Cook and Effie May (Coleman)
Cook. She entered into rest Saturday, July 15, 2000, at the Gibbs Care
Center, Steelville, Mo., at the age of 98 years, 6 months and 4 days.
On January 28, 1921, Nellie was united in marriage to Eugene Ferguson. Five
sons and two daughters were born to this union. They enjoyed fifty-five
years together before his death December 28, 1978.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Richard
Ferguson and William Ferguson and one daughter Maxine Hedrick, and two
brothers, John Riley Cook and Clarence Cook, and a brother-in-law, Lee
Harman.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted children,
Delmar Ferguson and wife Glenna of Granite City, Illinois, Robert Ferguson
and Howard Ferguson, both of St. Louis, Mo., Hazel and husband George
Patterson of Fenton, Mo.; one sister, Cora Belle Harman of Steelville, Mo.;
twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, several
great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
many friends.
Nellie Ferguson lay in state 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2000, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held
11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Robert
Coleman officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Fairview Cemetery, Butts, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers were Mike Donovan, Billy Ferguson, Jim Ferguson,
Ricky Ferguson, Jim Howdeshell and Sam Patterson.
Arraignments were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Marvin Richard Dobkins
Marvin Richard Dobkins was born Saturday, May 21, 1916, at Prague,
Oklahoma, a son of the late Rev. William DeVol Dobkins and Emma Ora Mae
(Gregory) Dobkins. He entered eternal life Saturday, July 15, 2000, in the
St. John's Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis, Mo., the result of an auto
accident, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 24 days.
On February 29, 1936, at Hofflin, Mo., Marvin was united in marriage to
Helen Palmer, daughter of Orlando and Rachel (Mosher) Palmer. Two sons and
four daughters were born to this union. They have enjoyed sixty-four years
together.
In addition to his parents Marvin was preceded in death by an infant son
Marvin Richard Dobkins, Jr. (March 10, 1950); three brothers, Charles
Winfield Dobkins, Theodore Dobkins and wife Lula, Arthur Dobkins and wife
Leyla; and two sisters, Patricia Adams and Opal Dobkins.
Among those who remain to mourn his death are his devoted wife, Helen of
the home in Steelville, Mo.; one son, Ernest Dobkins and wife Esperanza of
Metollous, Oregon; four daughters, Margaret and husband Robert Eshbaugh of
Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Patricia and husband Gilbert Fitzgerald of Candor,
New York, Beth and husband Richard Garrison of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Carol
and husband Delbert Keith of Sevierville, Tennessee; sixteen grandchildren,
twenty-six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends who will remember Marvin
as good neighbor and friend.
Marvin Richard Dobkins lay in state 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20,
2000 in the Britton Chapel with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Musical
selections wee provided by vocalist Georgia Beth Barksdale and pianist
Carolyn Hawkins.
Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Mo. Pallbearers were Ron Conway, Bud Cummings, Brian Fitzgerald, Earl
Garms, James Jones and Henry Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew
McCoy, Ray Munton, Paul Rossi and Burlie Turnbough.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
