MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 2, 2017 Rosa Margaret Brown Rosa Margaret (Gibson) Brown of Edgar Springs, Missouri was born on October 3, 1947 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Joseph and Mary (Lane) Gibson and passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the age of 69 years. Rosa resided in Edgar Springs, Missouri and worked for many years serving the Rolla residents not only with food, but with great times and much laughter, at many of the areas finest restaurants, Gordos, Zeno's and the Rolla Golf and Country Club. She was not only know for her duties but for the great times and good service she always gave. She had a wonderful personality and was devoted to making your dining experience enjoyable. It was through this that she could acquire many loving friends. Rosa also enjoyed gardening, she had a green thumb and loved to set out a garden in the spring and beautiful flowers surrounding their home. Rosa was quick to share the bounty of her labor with gifts of fresh vegetables and fresh flowers. Rosa also enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Gibson; brother, Johnny Gibson; and sister, Mary Ann Davidson. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Stewart Brown of the home; children, Christopher Carroll and Tamara Washburn; grand- children, Amanda Waring, Victoria Shope, Christian Washburn and Jeremy Washburn; great-grandchildren, Dominic Washburn, Damien Washburn, Karissa Washburn, Aria Shope and Avery Shope; brothers, Joe Gibson and Tony Sabey; sisters, Betty Orler and Cyndi Holder; mother-in-law, Marilyn Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Sue Brown and Bryan and Roberta Brown. Paul Felden Coleman Paul Felden Coleman of St. Charles, Missouri was born January 26, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri to Paul and Ruby Swyers Coleman and passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 3 days. Paul served honorably in the U.S. military. He was employed as a truck driver for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruby Coleman; one son-in-law, Barksdale Schumpe; and one sister, Cathy Leimkuehler. He is survived by one son, Kevin Coleman of Kansas City, Kansas; one daughter Lisa Schumpe of O'Fallon, Missouri; other relatives and friends. His family chose cremation as the final disposition. William Alexander Hoevel Jr. William Alexander Hoevel Jr. was born November 30, 1926 and passed away Friday, July 28, 2017. He joined the Navy at 17 years old for WWII, signing up when he was only 16 and his parents grudgingly signed their permission. He originally was assigned to the C-Bs but due to scarlet fever and near death with a mastoidectomy, he was later shipped out on the USS Flint, an Atlanta class light crusier whose primary purpose was air defense. His deck mates teased him when he told them he knew how to sew because of all his sisters but the JG pulled him aside, took him down to the "flag room" and asked him to sew something on this old Singer machine. William threaded it up, performed and was promoted to Signal Seaman Striker in charge of the flags. He mentioned one battle where the ship was attacked and all the flags were torn to shreds. He also learned Morse Code and his work quarters were near the Captains, designing and sewing all flags the ship needed, along with special flags they flew when the ship was brought into San Franciso Bay after the end of the war. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Barbara; and siblings, Bill, Mary Louise, Flora, Ann, Zannie, Cecile and Grace. He is survived by his children, William A. Hoevel III (Karen), Jill Hoevel Bryant, Jack Hoevel (Laura) and David Hoevel (Cass); 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Catalia Lorraine Moreland Catalia Lorraine Moreland of Sullivan, Missouri was premature and stillborn on July 22, 2017. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, John Peters; and cousin, Jon Peters. She is survived by her parents, Robert Moreland of Leslie, Missouri and Celina Peters of Sullivan, Missouri; brothers, Cordell Rawlings, Tylor Moreland of Leslie, Missouri, Damien Peters and Dominic Peters, all of Sullivan, Missouri; sisters, Isabella Zdanczewicz and Athena Peters, all of Sullivan, Missouri; grandmother, Robin Peters of Ohio; and other relatives. No services were held. Arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Doris C. Plummer Doris C. Plummer of Rolla, Missouri was born June 29, 1934 and passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2017 at the age of 83 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Plummer; two sons, Billy J. Plummer and Jerry Parsons; one daughter, Joy Parsons; four brothers, Clifford Shuey, Richard Shuey, Gordon Shuey and Glen Shuey Jr.; and one sister, Maxine Steen. She is survived by four sons, Roger Plummer and wife Trina of Dallas, Texas, Jim Parsons of Downey, California, Gary Parsons of Lancaster, California and Mike Parsons and wife Sandy of Rolla, Missouri; one daughter, Kathy Stahlman of Rolla, Missouri; two sisters, Dorothy Norris of St. James, Missouri and Elsie Tipton of St. James, Missouri; numerous grandchildren and great grand- children; other relatives and friends. Velma Marie Thurmond Velma Marie Thurmond of Branson, Missouri, formerly Leasburg, Missouri and Union, Missouri, was born in Potosi, Missouri on January 19, 1938 to William James and Irene Sarah Richards (nee Fowler) and passed away on July 18, 2017 at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 29 days. On October 23, 1955 she married John Henry Thurmond (known as Doodle). Velma was a Christian and since moving to Branson had been attending Woodland Hills Church in Branson, Missouri. She had worked in various factories, including the shoe industry and most recently as an assembly line worker at Pacer Industries in Washington, Missouri. She loved to paint and to crochet and sew beautiful keepsakes for her family. Velma also loved to go camping, work in her garden and can her produce. She enjoyed listening to country music, especially Conway Twitty and going to music concerts. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Irene ichards; husband, John Thurmond; five brothers, Alan Richards, Albert Richards (known as Shorty), Walter Richards, Eddie Richards and Herbert Richards; three sisters, Sheraldine Henderson (known as Aunt Curly) and infant twin sisters; and by one grandchild, James Dean Thurmond (known as J.D). She is survived by her son, Johnnie Thurmond known as Jett) and wife Juanita of Cuba, Missouri; daughters, Brenda Krattli and husband Dale of Branson, Missouri, Robin Eickhoff and husband Gary of Owensville, Missouri and Lisa Lefler and husband Joseph of Cuba, Missouri; two brothers, her twin Elmer Richards and wife Loretta of Potosi, Missouri and Ralph Richards of Arcadia, Missouri; one sister, Geraldine Wards (known as Aunt Whitey) and husband Jim of Meeker, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, Missouri with the Rev. Jim Watson officiating.
