MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 3, 2000 Matthew Paul Gregory Matthew Paul Gregory, of Owensville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur. He was 15 years old. He was born on September 16, 1984, in Rolla, a son of Daniel E. and Robyn Parker Gregory. In addition to his parents, Daniel and Robyn Gregory, he is survived by grandparents, Russell and Rose Parker, and Hallie and Carlton Gregory, of Steelville; and one brother, Jeremiah Daniel Gregory. Mr. Gregory was a student in the Gasconade County R-2 school District. Services were held July 21, 2000 at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville with Rev. Leslie Dority. Burial was made in the Owensville City Cemetery. Max C. Turner Max C. Turner, LTC, USAR (Ret.), died on July 30, 2000; beloved husband of the late Dorothy R. Turner (nee Sindelar); he is survived by two sons, Gary M. (Pat) and Larry R. (SueEllen) Turner; brothers William Turner, Andrew Turner, Jr. and the late Rowland Turner; sisters Reva Todd, and the late Eva Dunham; he is survived by 8 grandchildren, Gina Baldwin, Gary Turner, Jr., Genevieve, Gwendolyn, Courtney, Sarah, Laura and Elizabeth Turner. A resident of Parkside Meadows Retirement Center in St. Charles, Mo., previously of Cuba and St. Louis, Mo., Mr. Turner was a retired federal employee, working most of those years for the Army Aviation Systems Command. He was a WWII veteran of the Pacific Theater where he served as a company commander. He was a retired LTC of the US Army Reserves and was a member of the Reserve Officers Asssoc. and various other retired federal civilian and military organizations. Mr. Turner was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Wollurn Road in St. Charles County. He never met a stranger. He was a honorable man who loved his family and his country. Clyde Everett Crabtree Clyde Everett Crabtree was born Friday, September 13, 1912, at Dillard, Mo., a son of the late Walter A. Crabtree and Laura Belle Hogan Crabtree. He entered eternal rest Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Mark Twain Manor, Bridgeton, Mo., at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 13 days. On January 20, 1934, Clyde was united in marriage to Adelina Valma Copeland, daughter of Coach Copeland and Sharlett Dickens Copeland. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. They enjoyed over sixty-four years together before her death March 4, 1998. Clyde was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys and husband Raymond Casebolt and Ruby Fox, another brother-in-law, Earnest Copeland, and sisters-in-law, Edith Conaway and Geraldine Wilkinson. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted sons, Robert Crabtree and wife JoAnn of Bourbon, Mo., Donald Crabtree and wife Juanita of Bridgeton, Mo., a loving daughter, Carol Lingle also of Bridgeton, Mo.; one brother Chester Crabtree and wife Wilma of Chesterfield, Mo.; one sister, Jenny Ruth Crabtree of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law, Ruth Walker of Mobile, Alabama, brother-in-law Ralph Fox of Denver, Colorado eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Clyde Everett Crabtree lay in state 4:00 - 9:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Berlie Turnbough officiating. Musical selections were provided by vocalist Rene Crabtree and organist/pianist Deloris Bell. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Pallbearers were Richard and Ricky Crabtree, Chris Lingle, Jim and Jimmy Reifschneider and Jason Wareing. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Tressie Myrl Neumann Tressie Myrl Neumann (nee Eaton) was born Wednesday, May 31, 1911, in Steelville, Mo., a daughter of the late James Corbit Eaton and Martha Eaton (nee Butts). She entered eternal rest Sunday, July 23, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care, Sullivan, Mo., at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 22 days. On October 6, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., Tressie was united in marriage to Walter John Neumann. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. Walter preceded her in death in 1959. She was also preceded in death by one son Walter Theodore "Tad" Neumann; and three sisters, Mathilda Davis and husband Jack, Evelyn and husband Roy McClelland, Eula and husband Cleve Cassidy, and one brother, Bass Eaton. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Etta Mae and husband Fred Melton of Lonedell, Mo.; one loving son, Paul "P.J." Neumann and wife Rose of Edwardsville, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Jerry Neumann of Gerald, Mo.; sister-in-law, Hazel and husband Robert Huff of Steelville, Mo. Ten grandchildren, Sandra, Craig, Marty, Sharon, Chris, Karen, Jimmy, Tony, Timmy and Cindy; twenty-four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends, who will not only remember Tressie as a loving mother and grandmother, but a very caring person, who was always willing to give of her time in helping others at Gibbs Care Center and Golden Echoes. She attended the Steelville Presbyterian Church and was a member of OES #164, Steelville, Mo. Tressie (Eaton) Neumann lay in state 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. with Eastern Star Services held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in the Chapel at St. Matthews Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo., with Dr. Ted Stephens officiating. Musical selections were provided by Brenda Brooks. Committal prayers and interment were in St. Matthews Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. Pallbearers were Chris Melton, Craig Neumann, Martin Neumann, Tony Neumann, Tim Neumann, and Jim Neumann.
