William “Bill” Basham
William “Bill” Basham of Cuba, Missouri was born to Earl and Marie (Mason)
Basham on October 16, 1932 in Cuba, Missouri and passed away Monday,
July 25, 2011 at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri at the age of
78 years.
He was retired, after a lifelong career in the Logging and Timber Industry.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, being an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan
and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Marie (Mason) Basham; one
sister, Maryann Basham and one brother, Charles Basham.
He is survived by his four children, William and wife Diana Basham of
Seattle, Washington, Kathy and husband Nicoli Carman of Seattle, Washington,
Leo Basham of Cuba, Missouri and Marie Shrake of Albuquerque, New Mexico;
one brother, Bob and wife Becky Basham of Cuba, Missouri; one sister, Earlene
and husband Jerry McGinnis of North Carolina; six grandchildren; seven great
grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mizell
Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the
Mizell Funeral Home.
Interment followed at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba,
Missouri.
Eddie “Thomas” Brooks Sr.
Eddie “Thomas” Brooks Sr., of Cuba, Missouri was born March 6, 1951 in
Miami, Arizona to Edward J. and Ellie Ann (Head) Brooks and passed away
Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the age of 60 years.
Thomas was employed at Paramount Apparel in Bourbon, Missouri. In his spare
time, he loved to ride his motorcycle, drag race and fish. He also was known
to give “advice” when needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. and Ellie Brooks and
one brother, Johnny Brooks.
He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Eddie Brooks, Jr. and wife Patsy
and Shawn Brooks and wife Tina, all of Cuba, Missouri; one daughter, Julie
Willett of Cuba, Missouri; five brothers, Larry Brooks and wife Tammy of
Steelville, Missouri, Barry Brooks and wife Angie of Viburnum, Missouri,
Bobby Brooks and wife Leona of Salem, Missouri, Kelly Brooks and wife Darla
of Kennett, Missouri and Ronnie Brooks and wife Debbie of Cherryville,
Missouri; three sisters, Diane Bocardo of Steelville, Missouri, Jessie
Ziegleir of St. Clair, Missouri and Betty Pyatt and husband Ronald of
Davisville, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Britton-
Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Bob Coleman
officiating. Special music of “I’ll Sure Miss You,” “I Will Rise” and
“I Won’t Let Go” was sung by Amie Daniels, Darla Brooks and Tara
Henfling.

Steelville, Missouri.
Melvin E. Burnett
Melvin E. Burnett was born to Orville L. Burnett and Opal Corrine Erni on
June 12, 1927, in Bourbon, Missouri and passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at
the age of 84 years.
Melvin lived all of his life in Bourbon and graduated from Bourbon High
School class of 1945.
Melvin married the love of his life, Edith Richters on June 9, 1951 and
recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Melvin had a life long love of farming that he carried on from previous
generations. He also enjoyed flying with Edith as his co-pilot which he
did until health no longer allowed. He was a third generation member of
Sullivan Lodge #69 AF & AM and served many in offices including, “Keeper of
Humor.” He was also Past Patron of Sullivan Chapter #105 Order of Eastern
Star and faithfully supported and accompanied Edith’s journey to the office
of Worthy Grand Matron of Missouri.
Melvin was known for his great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Opal Burnett and
son-in-law, Gary L. Cunningham.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; children, Gay Elaine (Cunningham),
Deborah Ann (Sampson), Thomas Andrew Burnett, and Richard Irvin Burnett;
son-in-law, Dennis Sampson; daughters-in-law, Jenit (VanDyke) and Dana
(Fehl); 10 grandchildren, Christopher Cunningham and wife Michelle, Clayton
Cunningham, Darren Dwyer, Derek Burnett, Madeline Burnett, Raeanna Fehl,
Zachery Kammer, Kathryn Hamilton, Robert Panian and Conor Panian; five
great grandchildren, Haiden Cunningham, Haillie Wimmer, Madison and McKenzie
Hamilton and Cora Panian; other relatives and friends.
An Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. and Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. were
conducted on Monday evening, July 25, 2011 at the Eaton Funeral Home in
Sullivan, Missouri.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the
Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Kevin Weaver
officiating.
Interment followed in the Oddfellows Cemetery.Arrangements under the

Darian T. Haffer
Darian T. Haffer of Sullivan, Missouri was born on June 28, 1991 in
St. Louis, Missouri to George Haffer, Jr. and Tammy (Mercer) Haffer and
passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the age of 20 years.
Darian was a 2009 Sullivan High School graduate. He enjoyed football and
spending time with his family, his fiancée’s family and friends. Darian
especially enjoyed mud trucks and was proud of his red Ford pickup. He
also loved to hunt, fish, and relax by the river “chillin’ to some good
tunes.”
He is survived by his parents, George and Tammy Haffer of Sullivan,
Missouri; one brother, Daniel Haffer of Sullivan, Missouri; grandparents,
George Haffer, Sr. of Farmington, Missouri, Dorothy Lee of Las Vegas,
Nevada, James Mercer of Festus, Missouri, Carol Thompson of Desoto,
Missouri; fiancée, Kati Rigdon of Sullivan, Missouri; uncle, Steve Haffer
and wife Vickie of Bourbon, Missouri; aunts, Shannon Mercer of Crystal
City, Missouri, Debi Gowen, and husband Duane of Bonne Terre, Missouri
and Stacy Johnston of Desoto, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 12 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at the
Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Reverend
Richard Williams officiating.

Missouri.
Jaime “James” Neil Shook Lopez
Jaime “James” Neil Shook Lopez of Sullivan, Missouri was born on
November 17, 1985 in Redlands, California to Jaime Lopez and Rebecca Shook
and passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the age of 25 years.
He was a 2004 Sullivan High School graduate and was attending college. On
December 19, 2009, James was baptized and became a member of True Vine
Baptist Church.
James was very artistic, computer savvy, liked video games, martial arts,
studying the Bible, all animals and nature. He especially loved spending
time with his daughter, Alexis, and taking walks with his grandmother,
Brenda.
He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Ruby Buermann.
He is survived by his daughter, Alexis Lopez and her mother, Bridget
Collins; his mother, Rebecca Shook of Sullivan, Missouri; his father, Jaime
Lopez; grandparents, Neil Shook and wife Emilia of New Mexico, Brenda Cook
and husband Glenn of Sullivan, Missouri; great great aunts, Mable Green of
Sullivan, Missouri and Barbara Ray of Steelville, Missouri; great aunt
Joann King of Indio, California; great-uncle, Harvey McCance of Phoenix,
Arizonia; aunt, Lee Ann Wilkie, husband Jon and cousin Alexandra of
Camarillo, California; special friends, Timothy Sappington, Mark McMillan,
Ryan and Pat Fanazzo and Chris Valley; other relatives and friends.
Memorial funeral service was conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011 at True
Vine Baptist Church.

Missouri.
Leila P. “Lee” Vandervoort
Leila P. “Lee” Vandervoort of Cuba, Missouri was born to Thomas J. and
Leona M. (Shamel) Evans on December 25, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri and
passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan,
Missouri at the age of 79 years.
Lee was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, gardening, flowers, cats, boating,
fishing, swimming, politics, reading, antiquing and collecting stuff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Leona Evans; husband,
William Vandervoort and one granddaughter, Candace White.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn and husband Charles Wells of Cuba,
Missouri; granddaughter, Amanda Barnett and friend Sean Dobkins of Columbia,
Missouri; three grandchildren, Cameron Britt, Zachary Thurmond and Ella
Dobkins; one aunt, Margaret Pietrowski of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and
friends.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11 a.m. at
Delhi Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Missouri.
Kimberly Ann West
Kimberly Ann West of St. James, Missouri was born May 29, 1962 in Sikeston,
Missouri, to Joseph Raymond and Patricia Ann Glenn Bruenderman and passed
away Thursday July 28, 2011, at her home with her family at her side
following a lengtly illness of Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 49 years.
On December 23, 1988 at Farmington, Missouri she was united in marriage to
Michael Joseph West.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; two sons, Allen Michael West and
Joseph Raymond West, both of St. James, Missouri; one grandson, Jaden “Nate”
West; three sisters, Pamela Jo Hines and husband Tom of Homedale, Idaho,
Alma Louise Bevel and Gene Davenport of Scottsboro, Alabama and Sherri Light
of Festus, Missouri; nieces, Gwen Rice, Samantha Hines; nephews, Chris Hines,
Aaron Hines, Andy Bevel; other relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at
the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri with closing prayer at 7 p.m.
