MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 5, 2004 Carl Foster Carl Foster of Cuba, Missouri was born on November 20, 1918 at Menfro, Missouri to the union of Charley Foster and Florence Growfall Foster and passed away on August 6, 2004 at his home in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 16 days. On June 10, 1939 Carl was united in marriage to Loretta Peterson. Three sons, Alvin, Oliver and Darrel and five daughters, Donna, Carlene, Kathleen, Beverly and Juanita, were born to this union. They were happily married until Loretta preceded Carl in death on May 24, 1993. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Oliver and Darrel, one daughter, Juanita, one brother, Cletis Foster and one sister, Marie Payne. He was a member of the Cuba First Baptist Church, Cuba Masonic Lodge No. 312, Scottish Rite in Columbia, Missouri and the Shriners of Springfield, Missouri. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his son Alvin Foster; four daughters, Donna Wools, Carlene Wycoff and husband Houston, Kathleen Brewer and husband Bob and Beverly Lane and husband Roy. Three brothers, Raymond Foster, Monty Foster and Leon Foster; three sisters Virgie Grubb, Anne Sisiom and Ramona Stone. Eleven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Carl was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather, brother, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Carl Foster was in state at the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Monday, August 9, 2004 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jack Shepherd officiating. Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Allean Viola Hanks Allean Viola Hanks nee DeGonia was born Wednesday, May 25, 1927, at Elvins, Missouri, a daughter of the late Julius James DeGonia and Mary Susan (Yates) DeGonia. She departed this life Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 4 days. On June 2, 1984, at Duncan Falls, Ohio, Allean was united in marriage to Perry Andrew Hanks, son of Charles Hanks and Rachael (Ogles) Hanks. They enjoyed 17 years together before his death, September 30, 2001. In addition to her parents and her beloved Perry, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank DeGonia, George DeGonia and wife Marple, and Thomas DeGonia; seven sisters Marie and husband Richard Brooks, Martha and husband Charles Trudo, Wilma DeGonia, Bertha DeGonia, Catheren DeGonia, Rosa DeGonia and Dorothy DeGonia. Among those who remain to mourn her passing is a sister-in-law, Helen DeGonia of Seattle, Washington; also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. Allean will be fondly rememberd and sadly missed. Allean Viola Hanks lay in state 5-8 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2004 at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2004, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Harold Morris and Rev. Gene Whittaker officiating. Musical selections were provided by Janet Glore. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Campbell, James DeGonia, James Hanks, Frank Pasternacki, Randy Ramo, Thomas W. Trudo, Franklin and Dale Wright. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Lawrence "Floyd" McMillen Lawrence Floyd McMillen of St. James, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born on Saturday, January 27, 1923 in Keysville, Missouri to John Thompson McMillen and Sarah Elizabeth Key McMillen. He passed away at Phelps County Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 7 days. Floyd served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW Post 6470. He later was employed in the maintenance department at Brown Shoe Company in Steelville, Missouri. Floyd enjoyed playing pinochle, listening to music and singing. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was an active member of Center Point Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Sidney McMillen; sister Minnie Marie Gray; brothers William Thompson McMillen, James Lee McMillen, Ross McMillen, John McMillen, Justein Eugene McMillen, Clarence Dale McMillen; brothers-in-law Rainey Nichols, Glen Gray, and Thurston Clonts; sisters-in-law Barbara McMillen and Jacques McMillen. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his son Jimmy McMillen of St. James, Missouri; sisters Edna Elnora Clonts and Mary Nadine Nichols; brother Claude "Maloy" McMillen, all of St. James; sisters-in-law Jean McMillen of Fenton, Missouri and Virginia McMillen of St. James, Missouri; nieces; nephews; cousins and many friends. Visitation was Thursday, August 5, 2004 from 6-9 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were Friday, August 9, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Burial at Keysville Cemetery. Honor guard was provided by Don Gummersheimer of the VFW Post 6479 and Jim Cain from American Legion Post 345 of Steelville, Missouri. All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Thelma Edna Mounts Thelma Edna Mounts nee Teefer of Cuba, Missouri was born on November 27, 1911 in Bonne Terre, Missouri to the union of Henry Teefer and Alice Edna Groom Teefer and passed away on August 2, 2004 at the Cuba Manor, Cuba, Missouri at the age of 92 years 8 months and 5 days. On March 2, 1946 Thelma was united in marriage to Wesley Mounts in St. Louis, Missouri. They were happily married until he preceded her in death in July of 1973. Thelma was also preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cuba, Missouri. Thelma was a retired bookkeeper. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Thelma was a loving wife, aunt, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Thelma Edna Mounts nee Teefer was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mathew Schafer officiating. Interment was in the Rolla City Cemetery, Rolla, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
