Banks, of Cuba, son of the late William Banks, and Lois (Copeland) Banks, was born on June 27, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri and entered into rest on August 1, 2005 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 1 month, and 4 days. Leland worked for 25 years at Western Electric, until his retirement. On June 6, 1951 he married Cleo Martin, in Cuba, Missouri, and they had two children William and LyAnn. Leland was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Gardenville, Gardenville Eastern Star #513, and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Leland is preceded in death by his parents William and Lois, one brother, and daughter LyAnn Mantler. Leland was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his surviving family: wife of 54 years Cleo, Cuba, Missouri; son William Banks and wife Cindy, Ballwin, Missouri; son-in-law Martin Mantler; Aunt Imogene Avery, St. James, Missouri. Grandchildren Jenna and Cory Banks and Michael and Melinda Mantler. Funeral services for Leland was held Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, in Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Gary Mace officiating, and music provided by Darlene Cape and Chili Workman. Visitation for family and friends of Leland L. Banks was held on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 from 6-8 p.m., Masonic Service began at 7 p.m. at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri. Gwen Grace Clark Gwen Grace Clark, nee Fooks, of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 29, 1927 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to the union of Melvin Fooks and Olive George Fooks and passed away on Monday, August 8, 2005 at Gibbs Care Center at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 10 days. Gwen was united in marriage to Arnold Clark on June 30, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. One daughter, Patricia Ann was born to this union. She is preceded in death by her parents. Those who survive to mourn her passing from life are her loving husband of 61 years, Arnold Clark; daughter Patricia Ann and husband Jerry Homan; one granddaughter Sherri and husband Randy Goltz; two great granddaughters Casey and Katie Goltz. Gwen was a lifetime member of Post 6 AM Vets and a member of the Cuba Ladies VFW Auxiliary. Gwen was a wonderful homemaker and excellent cook, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Eleanore Mae Schwartz Eleanore Mae (Dreher) Schwartz, of Indian Hills, Cuba, Missouri was born October 13, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Edgar W. Hurst and Hazel Cunningham Hurst and passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at St. John's Skilled Nursing Center in St. Louis County, Missouri at the age of 83 years 9 months 20 days. Eleanore was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist Rolla, Missouri; Indian Hills Ladies Golf Club, was employed by The Principia before retirement and she enjoyed her bridge club. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband Charles H. Dreher Sr. Those who survive are her loving husband John A. Schwartz, children Barbara Grant and her husband Robert, Carla Incerta and her husband Michael, Linda Howenstein and her husband Roger, Patricia Koenig and her husband Timothy and Charles H. Dreher Jr., step-children Gail Bruffee and her husband Byron, Mary Lou Baker and her husband Lloyd, Sally Smith and Deborah Miller and her husband Mark. Sister-in-law Dorothy Schratz and her husband Charles, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, eight step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. William Andrew Sease William Andrew Sease, of Boulder, died of complications from pneumonia on Saturday, July 30, 2005, in Boulder. He was 73. The son of William Ira Sease and Lena Wilkinson Sease, he was born February 14, 1932 in Steelville, Missouri. He married Betty Worley Krahling on September 5, 1953 in Steelville, Missouri. They divorced. He married Darcy Radcliffe on December 26, 1972 in Moline, Illinois. Mr. Sease had lived in Boulder since 1964. He graduated from the University of Missouri. He was a retired professor emeritus from the Division of Counseling Psychology and Counselor of Education in the School of Education for the University of Colorado at the Denver and Boulder campuses. He retired in 1994. Prior to that, he worked as a high school counselor in Missouri, was the assistant director of guidance services for the St. Louis, Missouri public school system from 1959 to 1962, and founded and coordinated the graduate counseling program at the CU-Denver campus from 1964 to 1971. He also served as a consultant to the state department of education for Missouri and Colorado, and other school districts, colleges and universities. He served in the U.S. Naval Aviation in 1952 and was the former president of the Colorado/Wyoming Association of Counselor Educators. Mr. Sease was the former president of the Western Region Branch of the American Counseling Association and a member of the American Counselor Association. He received the Clifford G. Houston Award for distinguished service from the Colorado Counselor Association, and authored numerous publications. He was a member of the President's Task Force on Affirmative Action in 1972, and the Special Task Force on Student Unrest in 1971, and he was director and co-director of Plans for Progress, funded by the National Alliance of Business and Denver corporations. Having achieved the pinnacle of his profession, with awards and accolades from his colleagues, he never forgot the years he spent in the Steelville community and high school. This remained a matter of personal pride. His love for the Steelville area and personal friendships in the community were of the utmost importance to him. "Teacher and counselor, he touched the minds and hearts of many. He was an extraordinary wonderful father, grandfather, husband, brother and friend. His presence will be deeply missed," family members said. "He lived his life fully, with great integrity and dignity. His legacy continues through the work of his many graduate students and colleagues." "Bill had a wonderful sense of humor, as evidenced by his document, 'Poolroom Etiquette,' which received the 'Season's Best Writing Effort' award granted by his billiard room colleagues at the University of Colorado," family members said. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cindy Sease of Kalispell, Montana; a son Jeffery Sease of Erie; two brothers Ralph Sease of Centralia, Missouri and James Sease of Ballwin, Missouri; a sister Wilma Weeks, of St. Charles, Missouri; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Edna Earney; and an infant brother. Visitation was from 3-5 p.m. at Crist Mortuary and Cremation, 3395 Penrose Place. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 2 at Crist Mortuary and Cremation. Family and friends will officiate. Interment followed the funeral at Green Mountain Cemetery. Raymond William "Bill" Slowensky Raymond William "Bill" Slowensky was born Wednesday, November 13, 1940 at Huzzah, Missouri, a son of Mavis Slowensky, nee Manion, and the late Raymond W. Slowensky. Bill departed this life Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at his farm in Huzzah. Bill was united in marriage to Hallie Jean McInnis on October 12, 1969. One son, John William Slowensky was born to this union. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Ray, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Hester and John Haskell McInnis. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Jean, of their Huzzah home, son John and wife Molly and granddaughter Riley Slowensky, mother Mavis Slowensky, uncle Walter S. "Boots" Manion and wife Lil of Farmington, Missouri, other relatives and many friends. Bill was a member of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association, a member of the board of directors of Missouri Farmers Association and the board of directors of Steelville Fire Protection District. Bill loved the farm that has been in his family for more than 100 years, an official Missouri "Century Farm." As well as caring for his farm, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service and managed the Arneson Timber Company for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army and performed countless acts of community service over the years. Raymond William Slowensky lay in state from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2005 at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30 in the Britton Chapel with his cousin Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Musical selections were provided by Mary McInnis. Serving as pallbearers were Glenn Everett, Dennis Hardin, Scott Manion, Erik McInnis, Jams McInnis, Randy Ogrzewalla, Herb Smelser and Kyle Wallen. Honorary pallbearers were Glenn Branson, Harold Cape, Walter S. "Boots" Manion, Dick McInnis, Donald McInnis, Mike Pendleton and Sherman Ray. Committal prayers and interment was in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Bros. Funeral Home. Marian Stewart Marian Marie Stewart, 78, of Owensville, Missouri, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at St. John's Mercy Hospital, Washington, Missouri. She was born on March 24, 1927, in Owensville, Missouri to the late Marion and Emma Carroll Fritz. She was the owner/operator of M & L Restaurant for many years, was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and attended the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Licklider two sisters, Lillie Hoffmann and Maggie Jane Koch and three brothers in infancy. Surviving her are two sons, Sanford "Sonny" Stewart and wife Norma of St. Mary's, Georgia and Larry Stewart and wife Janet of Bland, Missouri; a daughter, Dorthey Licklider of Cuba, Missouri; three sisters, Evelyn Shoemaker and husband Don of Union, Missouri, Virginia Shoemaker of Union, Missouri and Virgie Scholten of Owensville, Missouri, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home with Rev. David Robertson officiating. Burial was in the Countryside Memorial Gardens.
