Brown was born October 29, 1922 to George W and Blanche Brown in Monet, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 in Galesburg, Illinois at the age of 84. He married Sarah Belle Ray on October 18, 1945 in Purdy, Mo. They had four children. He was in the Army during WWII and served in an Army Railroad Batallion in Burma, India and China. He returned from the war in 1945 and resumed his job with the Frisco Railroad, in Aurora, Missouri. In 1951 they moved their young family to Bourbon, Missouri where his position was Station Agent at Cuba, Missouri for the Frisco Railroad. In 1952 they moved to Cuba, Missouri. George retired from the Bulrington Northern Railroad in November of 1987 after 47 years. He was a Charter Member of the Cuba Lion’s Club, served several years on the Cuba School Board and was an active member of the Cuba Chamber of Commerce as well as a founding board member of the Cuba Enterprise Zone. He was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. He was also a Life Member of the American Legion Disabled American Veterans and a member of Cuba American Legion Post 522. George was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Brown in 2003 and his son, Stanley A. Brown in 2007. He is survived by his sons, Dennis G. and wife Mary of Knoxville, Ill., Donald L. Brown of Rogers, Arkansas; daughter, Susan L. Brown of Olathe, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Penelope Brown of Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Trisha Farrell, Margaret Brown, Michael Brown and wife Jamesa, Douglas Brown and wife Ashley, and four great grandchildren, Addie Brown, Leyton Brown, Brandon Farrell and Seamus Brown. Visitation was held Friday, August 10, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. at the Britton Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri. Funeral services were conducted at Britton Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2007 with burial immediately following at Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri. Morris Edward Broyles Morris Edward Broyles Jr. was born on May 20, 1950 at Sullivan, Missouri, to Morris “Bill” Broyles Sr. and Hazel Stroup Broyles. Eddie attended local schools and graduated as salutatorian in the Steelville High School class of 1968. He went on to graduate with honors from Southwest Missouri State University in 1972 with a degree in education. He married his high school sweetheart, Vickie Koenig at St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield, Missouri on August 22, 1970. He taught school and then worked for the federal government for 31 years. At the time of his death he was Director of Corporate Services and Deputy Director of the Technology Services Organization of the Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a devoted Christian, having been born again and baptized in June 1979. As a serious student of the Bible, he led weekly bible study fellowship for many years. He was known for his keen mind, jovial laugh and kind, gentle spirit. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don DeClue; sister-in-law, Joanne DeClue; nephew, Keith DeClue and mother-in-law, Edna Benton Koenig. He is survived by his wife of the home; sons, David of Indianapolis, Indiana and son, Aaron; daughter-in-law, Victoria; grandson, Braeden of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers, Chuck Broyles of Cuba, Missouri and Richard DeClue of Sullivan, Missouri; aunt, Lena Hoffmann of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services were held June 6, 2007 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis, Indiana with Brother John Kirkham officiating. John Carr John Carr was born Saturday, December 4, 1915 in Potosi, Missouri to George Ferson and Martha Blaine (nee Wallace) Carr and passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007 at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 91 years. John was united in marriage to Corinne “Connie” Faust on November 9, 1940 at the First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, Illinois and to this union two sons and one daughter were born. After 59 years of marriage Connie passed away on September 24, 2000. He graduated from University of Missouri with a B.S. in Agriculture. He did graduate work at both MU and Colorado State. He served as Agriculture Agent with the University of Missouri Extension in Crawford County from 1949 to 1975. He was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church and served as an elder for many years and was an active member in the groundhog club of the church. He loved the Ozarks–the flora-he could identify all the native trees and knew most of the shrubs, grasses and forbs. The fauna-he was an avid hunter of deer, squirrel and rabbits. He introduced not only his own children, but also numerous neighborhood children to hunting and the outdoor life. Up to the very end he loved to reminisce about “Fanny” a great treeing hound he owned in his youth. Most of all he loved the people, their homegrown common sense, wisdom, dry humor, wit and their friendliness. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, L. Blaine Carr and one sister-in-law, Edna Croxen. Bobby Gene Cooper Bobby Gene Cooper of Sullivan, Missouri was born April of 1927 in Mine Lamont, Missouri to Homer and Roxie (Umfleet) Cooper and passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007 at the age of 80 years. He grew up in that area and was employed many years with the lead mines. In 1961 he moved to Sullivan, Missouri where he became employed with Meramec Mining Company in the maintenance department. After 38 years of employment, he retired and began a life of traveling and fishing. Bobby was first married to Bonnie Head, who preceded him in death in 1969. In May of 1970 he was united in marriage to Pearla June (Wisdom) Morris. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Sullivan Masonic Lodge No. 69. Ruby Gaynell Ford Ruby Gaynell Ford, Steelville, Missouri, formerly of Sligo, Missouri, was born Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 97 years. Ruby was united in marriage to Wendell P. Ford on December 19, 1929 in Copemish, Michigan and to this union one daughter was born. After 64 years of marriage, Welldell preceded her in death on November 14, 1993. Gaynell worked at the service desk for Montgomery Ward. She was a member of the Sligo United Methodist Church. Audrey Naomi Housewright Audrey Naomi Housewright (nee Fannon) was born Sunday, August 10, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Geroge Clay “Jim” Fannon and Naomi Lee “oma” (nee Moreland) Fannon, and passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 25 days. On August 15, 1942 Audrey was united in marriage to Jewell “Pete” Housewright in St. Louis, Missouri. To this union three sons were born. They enjoyed 52 years together before Pete passed away March 16, 1995. Audrey was a secretary for the Crawford County R-3 Elementary School for 25 years. She was a faithful worker and member of the First Church of God of St. James, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lina Corine Fannon and Georgia Elnora Moreland. Richard “Dick” Alan McInnis Richard “Dick” Alan McInnis was born Saturday, February 12, 1928 in St. James, Missouri to John Haskell and Bella Hester (nee Carpenter) McInnis and passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Sullivan Life Care Center in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 69 years. He was united in marriage to Beverly Summers on July 13, 1969 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union three daughters and one son was born. Dick farmed all his life and enjoyed the outdoors. He had a love for horses and all animals. He was director of the Steelville Telephone Company. He loved music and will be remembered as the first drummer for the Meramec Music Theatre. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brother-in-law, Bill Slowensky and Levi Mitchell. Allan Noah Miller Allan Noah Miller was born July 4, 1919 in Gasconade County, Missouri to Burt John Miller and Ethel Dotson Miller and passed away Friday, August 3, 2007 at his home in Bertram, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. In the early 1960’s he started in the real estate business in Missouri and in the late 1960’s moved to Texas, where he continued in resort real estate. He later started Bertram Land and realty Company, which kept him active in Hill Country Real Estate for the remainder of his life. He was a member of Bertram First Baptist Church, Bertram Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion of Bertram. He was preceded in death by three sons: Gary Allan Miller, Richard Eugene Miller and Jonathan Noah Miller; sisters, Alice Ferling and Gladys Nieman. Virginia Ollie Ostertag Virginia Ollie Ostertag, loving Christian mother and grandmother, departed this world on August 12, 2007 at the age of 83 years 5 months and 10 days. She was born March 2, 1924 to William and Ollie Case in St. Louis, Missouri. She was married to Murl Ostertag in 1942. She was an accomplished typist, pianist, gardener and writer. Virginia worked at a U.S. Naval Station Hospital at San Leandro, California. She was an executive secretary of Dauhters of Charity and later for Sister of Mercy in St. Louis, Missouri. She was an executive secretary to the V.P. of United Van Lines in Fenton, Missouri. When she moved to the country, she was a secretary to the professor of Liberal Arts at University of Missouri, Rolla, which she retired from. In the 1990’s she was instrumental in getting Leasburg Ministerial Benevolence, “LAMB” started and worked with this for several years. She always had a place in her heart for the less fortunate in her community. She was a member of the Rolla Area Writers Club and was published in “The Anthology 2004”. She was a member of the Methodist Church and was an organist for many years for the Baptist Church in Leasburg and later, the Methodist Church of Bourbon, Missouri. She was Mrs. Claus with her husband, Murl being Santa Claus at Boy Scouts and numerous community Christmas events. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Larry and wife Audrey Ostertag of St. James, Missouri and Randy and wife Rachel Ostertag of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Marjorie Factor of Delaware, Ohio; grandchildren, Larry and wife Amanda of St. James, Missouri Kyle and wife Terri of Olathe, Kansas and Beth Sanders of St. James, Missouri; great grandchildren, Brandon and Matthew of St. James, Missouri, Emma and Bryson of Olathe, Kansas and Crystal, Caitlynn and Christopher of St. James, Missouri, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was self-employed and was of the Pentecostal faith. Ruby was a member of the Union Light Baptist Church and also was a volunteer worker in the Red Cross Auxiliary in Viburnum, Missouri. She enjoyed her animals, gardening and landscaping.
