MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 16, 2012 Robert LaRue Bartlett Robert LaRue Bartlett of St. Petersburg, Florida was born January 2, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri to Vollie Medford and Gwendolyn Marie LaRue Bartlett and passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Woodside Hospice Center in St. Petersburg, Florida at the age of 94 years. He was united in marriage on July 17, 1937 to Zelma Natalie Daniels. He accepted Jesus Christ and followed the Lord in baptism in 1932. Robert attended and graduated from Southwest High School in 1936 and Ranken Technical College in 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri. He joined the plumbers and fitters Local 101 on March 6, 1942. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. In 1980, he retired from Local 101 and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. He was a member of the Clearview Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. His mother, Gwendolyn was from Steelville, Missouri and lived out her later years on Spring St. Robert met his wife Zelma, formerly of Salem, Missouri, at the Tower Grove Baptist Church in South St. Louis where they lived for a while and later moved to Afton, Missouri and then to Belleville, Illinois where he raised his family. He was instrumental in establishing the welding school at Belleville Junior College and was active in the apprenticeship program at Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local Union 101 in Belleville, Illinois. In March 2012, he received his 70-year plaque from the Local Union 101. Robert held a private pilots license and was active in the Experimental Aircraft Association. He helped fellow EAA members in welding projects on their home built aircrafts. He also rebuilt a Piper Super Cruiser that he owned in partnership with two others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Volllie and Gwendolyn Bartlett; his wife, Zelma in 1973; and one step son, William (Billy) Bramel. He is survived by one son, Daniel Bartlett and wife Mei Mei of St. Petersburg, Florida; daughter, Susan Schoenebeck and husband Gary of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Christy Adams and husband Chris and Brad Bartlett, all of St. Petersburg, Florida; one great granddaughter, Samantha Adams; step grand- children, Wai and Esther Lui, Jim and Alisa Chin; three step great grand- children, Alischa Lui, Samantha and ALex Chin; other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Steelville Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Farr officiating. Richard Truman Brown Richard Truman Brown of St. James, Missouri was born in Afton, Iowa on March 7, 1932 to Leigh A. and Edith B. (Brandon) Brown and passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the age of 80 years. On April 28, 1951 he married Twyla Miller and they were blessed with three children. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leigh and Edith Brown; one grandson, Robert William Denny; four brothers; and one sister. Callahan on November 12, 1949 in Salem, Missouri and to this union eight children were born. Ruth beside her husband helped serve the Lord for many years. She was a member of Center Ridge Pentecostal Church of Cherryville, Missouri. She enjoyed ministering to people, singing, teaching Sunday School, reading, crossword puzzles, flowers, cleaning, ladies luncheons and spending time with her family. Walter Holmes Cartwright Walter Holmes Cartwright of Spring Bluff, Missouri was born in Leasburg, Missouri, August 2, 1922 to Royal James and wife Dorthea May, nee Kruse, Cartwright and passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the age of 90 years and 3 days. In 1938, Walter was was baptized in the Meramec River at Onondaga. In 1941, Walter graduated from Bourbon High School. On July 22, 1944, he married Anita Irene Schmidt from the Elmont area north of Sullivan. Walter and Anita were blessed with two children. Walter was an employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 34 years, retiring in 1981. His jobs included lineman, station installer, and PBX installer/repairman. When Walter retired from Bell Telephone, he was head telephone man at Maritz, Inc. in Fenton, Missouri. Walter and his family moved to Grover (in St. Louis County) in 1953. They drove back to Bourbon each week for him to teach a Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of Bourbon until 1957 when Walter became Pastor of Moselle Missionary Baptist Church, near St. Clair, Missouri. He pastored Moselle until he started a mission church in the Grover/Pond area in 1971. He was Pastor of First Baptist of Grover for over 23 years. Through many years of pastoring, teaching, preaching, counseling, serving and helping, Walter had a part in people’s lives being changed. More than anything, he would want people to hear the truth of God’s Word and to know Jesus as their Saviour. He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Dorthea Cartwright; brothers, Henry and James Cartwright; sisters, Pauline Ramstein, Dorothy May (infant); brothers-in-law, Dr. Richard Ramstein, Russell, Hadley, Harold and Roscoe “Ben” Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Ava Owens and Ruth Stevens. Evelyn Lorene Gowin Evelyn Lorene Gowin of Cuba, Missouri was born May 2, 1921 at Beardstown, Illinois to John R. and Alma Jane (nee Shepard) Large and passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 91 years. Evelyn was united in marriage to Robert Vedder on June 5, 1937 and to this union four children were born. After Robert passed away Evelyn was united in marriage to Donald Gowin on August 4, 1984 at Springfield, Missouri. Evelyn worked for Verizon Telephone Company of Cuba for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri and in her spare time she enjoyed baking cookies and pies, camping, building a campfire to cook brats and s’mores but what she loved most was spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma Jane Large; first husband, Robert Vedder; three brothers, Wilmer, Harold and Kenneth Large; four sisters, Zelda Reining, Clara Hendrickson, Alice Hay and Audrey Ballinger; other relatives and friends. Billy was very passionate about his photography of dirt track racing that he worked at for the last eight years. He was a part of the Christian Family Fellowship of St. Peters, Missouri. Becky was an avid basketball player and also participated in the band, FHA, and FCCLA during her high school years at Steelville High. She was a Junior Fireman in Steelville. She liked to dance, hunt, fish and bowl. She loved her friends and family, but more than anything, she loved children. Although, she never had her own, she loved everyone else’s as if they were hers. She was larger than life and lived her life to the fullest.
