When she was just a young girl, Berniece and her family moved to the Spring Creek area, during the Depression. She grew up and attended Long Ridge School and graduated from Sullivan High School, Class of 1946. Berniece married Carl F. Brendel on June 7, 1947 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Berniece worked as a cook for local schools for many years. She eventually retired from Spring Bluff School, then headed up the catering for the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. They also catered many local events over the years. Berniece was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was well known for cooking, baking, quilting and her embroidery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; parents, Rudolph and Bertha Voss; brother, Rudolph Voss; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Beula Mae Chism Beula Mae Chism was born February 14, 1924 in Barry County Missouri to G.C. and Eula Ulmer and passed away on August 7, 2020 at the age of 96 years, 5 months and 24 days. She was married on June 3, 1942 to Homer Norwood in Butterfield, Missouri. Homer died in WWII on March 20, 1945. She married William Chism on February 10, 1947 in Barryville, Arkansas. Beula was a long-time devoted member of the Baptist Faith. Her cooking skills were second to none and she was known for her homemade hot rolls, noodles, granny corn, banana pudding and divinity. Beula crocheted afghans and would try any pattern if asked. Her family will treasure her crocheted snowflakes for generations to come. She had a green thumb and loved her flowers and vegetables. Edward Eugene Hamilton Edward Eugene Hamilton of St. James, Missouri was born August 5, 1942 in Crocker, Missouri to Harold Earl and Hattie Berniece (Peterson) Hamilton and passed away on August 16, 2020 at the age of 78 years. After graduating from Crocker High School and in August of 1960, he answered the call of God on his life and was ordained to the Gospel Ministry at First Baptist Church in Crocker, Missouri. He went on to attend Southwest Baptist College (A.A.) and Oklahoma Baptist University (B.A.). He married LaMoine (Black) from Richland, Missouri on June 5, 1966. He pastored the following churches: Independence Baptist in Richland, Missouri; First Baptist in Branson, Missouri, First Baptist in Granite City, Illinois, Northside Baptist in Neosho, Missouri, Trinity Baptist in Willow Springs, Missouri, First Baptist in Dixon, Missouri, Ozark Baptist in Houston, Missouri and Central Baptist in Houston, Missouri. Through the years, he has been active in the local communities where he pastored and was involved in Rotary Club, Optimist International, local city councils and chambers of commerce. In 2009 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Houston, Missouri Chamber of Commerce. Ed also served on the Executive Board of the Missouri Baptist Convention and he served two terms on the Board of Trustees at Southwest Baptist University. In August 2020 he completed 60 years in pastoral ministry. Before his passing, his pastoral work was finished after serving faithfully as interim pastor at Central Baptist Church in Houston, Missouri. The congregation recently built a new church building which they were able to meet in for the first time in June. He encouraged others through his preaching, fellowship and humor. One of his favorite recent hobbies included the Country Bob's Coffee Club in St. James, Missouri. Clinton Leroy Hull Clinton Leroy Hull of Newburg, Missouri was born in St. James, Missouri on July 24, 1932 to Jess and Betty (Jenkins) Hull and passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2020 at the age of 88 years. Clinton proudly served his county in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during WWII. On February 19, 1951 he married Rebecca Hart. Clinton spent his working career at Rawlings Sporting Goods, as a sewing machine mechanic and work at several locations around the state of Missouri. He and Becky settled in at Newburg, Missouri. He loved to hunt and fish. They went fishing in Alaska, pheasant, quail, and chucker hunting in Iowa and elk hunting in Colorado. Clinton loved watching the grandkids play sports, in particular, when their grandson played high school and college baseball. They would travel to as many games as they could. He was a people person, a good listener, without being judgmental. He was a "go-to" guy for almost anything you needed, maybe a piece of equipment that needed fixed, something needing built, or if you just needed some words of wisdom, Clinton was your guy. Helen Louise Jackson Helen Louise (Wisdom) Jackson was born on November 6, 1935 to Raymond and Stella (Franklin) Wisdom in St. James, Missouri and passed away on August 8, 2020 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 84 years. Helen grew up and attended school in Salem, Missouri. She married Jimmy Jackson, on November 7, 1953. Together Helen and Jimmy shared 56 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on May 11, 2010. Helen was a homemaker, worked at Flemings Variety Store and retired from the Salem R-80 School District as the cafeteria manager. Helen was a woman of faith and a long-time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She served in variety of areas and stood beside her husband as a Deacons wife. In her later years, Helen attended Grace Community Church with her sister, Wanda. She was a great Christian lady. Helen truly enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, she was known as "The Cook" at Salem Schools and the "Kitchen Lady" at Oak Grove. Helen was an excellent cook and best known for her chili and chocolate gravy. She was a wonderful baker and made several beautiful wedding cakes. Joan married Eugene "Gene" Charles Kempf at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Fenton, Missouri on September 16, 1961. She and Gene moved to Steelville, Missouri around 1977. She accepted the Lord and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Steelville, Missouri. She was a hard worker and helped out on the farm with raking, baling hay and more. In her younger days, she enjoyed dancing, gardening, going to drag races, fishing at their pond, camping and hunting. William Warren Licklider William Warren Licklider was born December 14, 1936 and passed away on August 12, 2020 at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 29 days. He was raised in St. James, Missouri. Warren and Jessie Juanita (Elrod) Licklider had 63 years together. Warren, often called "W" by those that knew him, had a knack for picking out bulls, raising the biggest framed cattle biologically possible and growing top quality grassland hay. Throughout his life, Warren served many roles as a pipeline inspector, construction foreman, Bridge Specialist in the Army National Guard and a forklift operator. Warren attended Oklahoma A&M University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, from 1954-1955. There, he took ballroom dancing and often bragged that, "while all the other boys were out playing sports, he was inside dancing with the ladies." For 40 years, Warren and Jessie raised American Quarter Horses and at one time had 19 broodmares. He had a special love for his great cutting horse, Gummy. Warren was recognized multiple times by the University of Missouri Extension on his work with conservation, including grasslands and soil bank erosion. He and Jessie frequently hosted farm tours before "retiring" in 2000. He always felt it important to leave his farm better than when he found it. Warren loved to engage in intense discussions on farming, politics or hunting. He was an avid reader and history enthusiast. Warren loved to share his knowledge with anyone who would listen and prided on the fact that he held the oldest issued library card from the St. James Public Library. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph Elrod Licklider; parents, William Jewell and Emma Jane (Young) Licklider; and sister, Doris (Fred) Christie. Johanna Ellen MacPherson Johanna Ellen MacPherson (Corn) was born August 17, 1950, in Fulton, Missouri to Art and Mary Lou Corn and passed away August 10, 2020 at the age 69 years. Jo, as she was known to friends and family, attended St. James Public Schools, graduating from John F. Hodge High School in 1968. She continued her education at Drury College in Springfield, Missouri and later at University of Missouri at Columbia, Missouri. She learned the art of fine French cuisine as a chef in restaurants in Kansas City and went on to work as a chef in Santa Barbara, California and eventually Seattle, Washington. It was here she began to study astrology under her mentor, Bruce Myron. Jo and Bruce worked together as astrologers in an office in the historic Smith Tower in downtown Seattle, Washington. Johanna married Thomas MacPherson in Seattle in 1982. Her lifework as an astrological consultant touched countless lives. Her exceptional perception and preternatural insight about individuals was remarkable. She could read others and tell them of their own hidden traits and tendencies. Her strong, feminine warrior spirit allowed her to break barriers and to achieve much in her too-short lifetime. She was an active member of the Women's Business Exchange during her time in Seattle, Washington and helped women support one another and form lasting connections both personally and professionally. Jo was an avid collector of rare and unique art objects; a holdover from her college major in Art History. Jo also worked tirelessly to catalog and promote the vast artwork of her mother, Mary Lou Corn. Jo was the author of two books, "The Way of the Zodiac" and a novel titled "When Stars Fell into the River." A member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Jo was a community volunteer and contributed countless hours to projects for the betterment of St. James, Missouri. They included organizing support to pass the bond issue for revitalizing the St. James Pool and working to pass the library tax for Lucy Wortham James Memorial Public Library to keep the library operating once the James Foundation no longer provided funding. Jo was a founding member of the Friends of the Library and she was serving as president of the organization at the time of her death. In addition, she served on the St. James Historical Preservation Commission, giving lectures on the life of Lucy Wortham James and the history of Meramec Iron Works. She was a long time member of the St. James Chamber of Commerce and served on the board as secretary for a time. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Corn in 2002. She is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Corn of St. James, Missouri; son, Alec MacPherson of St. James, Missouri; daughter, Ellen MacPherson-Salyers of St. Louis, Missouri; brother, John Corn and wife Sandy of Columbia, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Loreta Jean "Reta" Morris Loreta Jean "Reta" Morris of Memphis, Missouri was born September 20, 1930, at Barnes City, Iowa, in Mahaska County, to Alvie and Ada Mae (McMains) Dye passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 at the age of 89 years. She married Chester Arthur "Chet" Jennings on January 3, 1947 at Kirksville, Missouri. Reta married William Pence on May 18, 1972 at the Baptist Church in Memphis, Missouri. He passed away in March 1976. She married Austin Arden Morris in February 14, 2000 in Steelville, Missouri. They enjoyed extensive traveling. He passed away in February 2011. She farmed, raised chickens for market, owned and operated an upholstery and drapery shop in Memphis, Missouri and was a nurse's tech at the Scotland County Hospital for many years. Reta received her GED in 1980. Reta also owned and operated a tanning spa and worked as a realtor in Memphis and Cuba, Missouri. Reta enjoyed gardening, her flowers and rides in the country. Reta was a member of First Christian Church in Memphis, Missouri. He was adopted by his grandparents Theodore Roosevelt Parsons and Frances Gay (Reed) Parsons. He passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 13 days. Gregory graduated from Annapolis High School, Annapolis, Missouri. He accepted the Lord later in life. He served our country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. As an Infantry Engineer Bridge Specialist he helped set up bridges ahead of the troops. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal Expert (Rifle), Vietnam Service Medal w/l Silver Service Star, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Expert (M-79). After his discharge from the military he continued using his construction skills in his own business, Parsons's Plumbing. In addition to running his plumbing business, he also drove a truck throughout the years of his life, while still continuing his plumbing business until retirement. When his health failed he moved to Cuba, Missouri to be with his daughter, Jamie. In the last few months of his life, he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Frances Parsons; brothers, Ron Hollen and Ted Parsons; sisters, Brenda Jackson, Josephine (Carl) Hollen, and Virginia (Tom) Whited; and nephew, Chad Jackson. Frank was born and grew up in St. James, Missouri and entered the Air Force on February 2, 1954 as a airplane mechanic and was soon moved to the position as a jet engine mechanic. He served four years in the United States Air Force and received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He loved the military and enjoyed talking about his service to his country. On December 20, 1956 he married Kaloaha Donnell "Kitty" Meadows. After his military career he and his wife Kitty drove a truck traveling many states and enjoying the beautiful sites of the United States. Eddie had a great sense of humor. He always had a joke or a story to tell and made most situations comical. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pearl Tucker; one brother, Jim Tucker (Chizuko); and one grandson, Brody Tucker. Jeannie worked for different companies in the Cuba Industrial Park, but her last job was at Ozark Mountain Technologies. Jeannie worked until her health began to decline and she had to wear oxygen all the time. Jeannie had been a Christian all her life. She had a faith that could move mountains. When her children were growing-up she enjoyed taking them to the drive-in, camping, going on picnics, bowling and just spending time with them. In her spare time Jeannie enjoyed playing bingo, talking on the phone, playing games on her computer especially Yo World. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Veda Adams; one infant son, Anthony Zobrist; five brothers, Ralph Adams Jr., Martin Adams, Michael Adams, Brian Adams and Gary Adams; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Makara and Michael Evans; and one nephew, Daniel Adams. She is survived by her husband, Michael Zobrist of the home; children, Michael and wife Tiffany Zobrist of St. Louis, Missouri, Veda and husband Shawn Combs of Cuba, Missouri, Stephanie Zobrist of Cuba, Missouri, Shelby Adams of Cuba, Missouri, Amy Starks of Cuba, Missouri and Steven Adams of Cuba, Missouri; grandchildren, Chloe, Ethan, Justice, Mason, Morgan, Viola, Harmony and Aiden; one brother, Tony and wife Pat Adams of St. Louis, Missouri; five sisters, Jackie Makara of Cuba, Missouri, Carolyn and husband Donald Bowolak of St. Louis, Missouri, Debbie Evans of St. Louis, Missouri, Sandra Mendoza of Cuba, Missouri and Terri and husband Jim Tyler of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Mizell Funeral Home. Special recorded music was "I Can Only Imagine," "You Raise Me Up" and "Go Rest High on that Mountain." Interment and prayers followed at the Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
