Jeanne M. Beaman
Jeanne Malcom Beaman of Cuba, Missouri was born Saturday, August 5, 1916 to
James Ernest and Gladys (nee: Whitfield) Malcom in Sydney, Australia and
passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the age of 92 years and 9 days.
Jeanne married Glen Roy Beaman in Kansas City, Missouri on February 1, 1941,
where she had attended Kansas City Junior College, and earned an RN degree at
Kansas University School of Medicine.
She worked at both local hospitals and was a Crawford County public health\
nurse for 15 years (1963-1978).
She enjoyed traveling, painting and other artistic endeavors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one daughter,
Sandra Tate.
She is survived by her daughter Linda B. Baldino of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania; her son, John M. Beaman, M.D., daughter-in-law, Sandra and
granddaughter, Rhyan, all of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and two half sisters,
Faye and Veronica of Sydney, Australia.
Memorial visitation was held on Sunday, August 17, 2008 from 1-2 p.m. at
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Memorial service was Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Britton Funeral
Home of Cuba with Pastor Paul Lathum officiating. Special music “Whispering
Hope” and “In the Garden” sang by Paul Lathum and organist Darlene Cape.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Edward L. “Barney” Slawson
Edward L. “Barney” Slawson of Sullivan, Missouri, was born on August 19, 1946
in Newburg, Missouri to Charles and Mary Alice (Jones) Slawson and passed
away Wednesday, August 7, 2008 at the age of 61 years.
He married Martha M. Sohn-Brown on November 27, 1976 in Newburg, Missouri
and worked for many years at the Bobber Truck Stop where he was nicknamed
Barney. He loved to meet the guys and fellowship at Homer’s BBQ and was
known as a good-hearted man.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
He is survived by a brother, Louis Dean Slawson of Newburg, Missouri; two
sisters, Diane Wardle and husband Harvey of Clarksville, Tennessee and Lois
Sagel and husband Phillip of Newburg, Missouri; grandchildren, Barbara Laney
and husband Ron and Brian McMillian and wife Melissa, all of Cuba, Missouri;
special granddaughter, Brenda Johnson of Dixon, Missouri; six great
grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008 at Oddfellows
Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan, Missouri with Homer Britton officiating.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Mary Anna Thompson
Mary Anna (Morrison) Thompson of Eugene, Missouri, was born June 20, 1937,
in Cherryville, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond and Marcena Martin Morrison.
She passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at the University of Missouri Hospital &
Clinics in Columbia, Missouri, from injuries sustained from an automobile
accident.
She attended Cherryville School. On June 19, 1987, she was united in marriage
in Jefferson City, to George “Cliff” Thompson, who preceded her in death on
April 18, 2004.
Mary Anna worked for Scholastics for 20 years, retiring in 2002. She was a
member of the First Assembly of God Church and the Victoria Chapter #14. She
loved her children and family very much. Listening to country music and
circle word books were two of her favorite pastimes, along with collecting
porcelain dolls.
She was preceded in death by one son, James Wiseman; one grandson, Justin
Michael Thompson; two brothers, Lennie Morrison and Lloyd Morrison; and one
sister, Naomi Richardson.
She is survived by six children and their spouses, Debbie Calvrid (Gary) of
High Point, Missouri, Stephen Wiseman of Jefferson City, Missouri, Kathy
Vernon (Fred) of Jefferson City, Missouri, Walter Wiseman (Kim) of Leasburg,
Missouri, Madonna Schrimpf (Derek) of Russellville, Missouri, and Brian
Thompson (Angie) of Fairgrove, Missouri; 18 grandchildren and 21 great
grandchildren.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Houser-Millard
Funeral Home, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Funeral Services at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at the Houser-Millard
Funeral Home, with Rev. Lowell Perkins officiating.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Freeman
Cemetery in Cherryville, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors,
Jefferson City, Missouri.
Mabel Viona Turnbough
Mabel Viona Turnbough, of New Haven, Missouri was born October 6, 1919 in
Shoal Creek, Missouri to Franklin and Bertha (Gilliam) Lefler. She passed
away Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the New Haven Care Center, New Haven,
Missouri at the age of 88 years.
On May 6, 1940 in Potosi, Missouri, Mabel was united in marriage to Ralph
Turnbough who preceded her in death on September 11, 1981.
Mabel lived in Ferguson, Missouri for many years and then later moved to be
with her daughter in New Haven.
During WWII, she worked in a small arms factory and later she worked in the
toy department at Famous Barr for 25 years.
While living in Ferguson, she was a member of the Hazelwood Baptist Church
and in later years attended the Faith Baptist Church in Washington, Missouri.
Mabel enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Jolly Quilters in Ferguson for
several years. She could often be found cooking for her grandchildren whom
she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Lathan,
Clyde, Freeman, Haskell and Edwin Lefler; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Lefler
and Mildred Snow; two brothers-in-law, Don Cooper and James Ed Snow.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Price and husband Richard of New
Haven, Missouri; one sister, Madeline Cooper of Viburnum, Missouri; two
grandchildren, David Price and wife Laurie of Washington, Missouri and
Kathleen Dillon and husband Dean of St. Charles, Missouri; five great
grandchildren, Kevin Eck, Megan and Mallory Dillon and Maxwell and Leah
Price; three sisters-in-law, Virginia, Beulah and Mary Lefler; other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Pastor Lee
Whitley officiating.
Special music of “How Great Thou Art” and “Go Rest High” were sung by Larry
Sherrill with Geraldine Sherrill on piano.
Casket bearers were Jim Lefler, Roger Lefler, Gene Lefler, Frank Lefler,
Terry Lefler, Jimmy Blair and Phyllis Kenndy as Honorary casket bearer.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Shoal Creek Cemetery at Steelville,
Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
