MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 21, 2013 James Fred Arl Sr. James Fred Arl, Sr. of Rolla, Missouri was born on July 31, 1926 in Corridon, Missouri to Lewis and Ola (Patterson) Arl and passed away, Sunday August 4, 2013 at the age of 87 years. In July of 1952 he married Anna S.M. (Ichihara) Arl. James was a veteran of the US Coast Guard, retiring in 1970 with 22 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending many hours working in his garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ola Arl; his wife Anna on February 6, 2007; three sisters, Grace Johnson, Ruth Gray and Martha Baker; and one brother, Ralph Arl. He is survived by one son, James F. Arl, Jr. and wife MaLinda of Rolla, Missouri; one daughter, Doris Arl of St. James, Missouri; one sister, Edith Callahan of Ellington, Missouri; one brother, Walter Hale Arl and wife Freda of Corridon, Missouri; three grand- children, Joshua James Arl and wife Melissa of Lebanon, Missouri, Jacob Lewis Arl and fiancée Candace White of Rolla, Missouri and Jessica Lee Smith and husband Bret of Springfield, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Joshua Benjamin Arl, Elijah Timothy Arl, Kaleb James Arl and soon to be born, great grandson (Smith); other relatives and friends. Interment with military honors followed at 2:30 p.m. at the Polk Cemetery near Corridon, Missouri in Reynolds County. Avery of Pensacola, Florida, formerly of Owensville, Missouri, was born in Leasburg, Missouri on Saturday, November 30, 1935 to William Trezzie and Reabel Lattie Brown Avery and passed away in Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 14 days. John married Beverly Dulaney on February 26, 1960 in Steelville, Missouri. They moved to Owensville, Missouri in 1963 where John was a driver for Boettcher Concrete, Garver Construction Company and Beaufort Trucking. He then worked and retired from Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, Missouri. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the wildlife, hunting, fishing, traveling and loved going to the mountains. He also, enjoyed the ocean and watching boats. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Reabel Avery; wife, Beverly; sister, Grace (Al) Mallow; brother, Kenneth (Mildred) Avery; brothers-in-law, Charles Cook and Tom Suerig. Thelma Pearl Conley Thelma Pearl (Beck) Conley of Park Hills, Missouri was born January 3, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri to Homer and Lily Mae (Martin) Beck and passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Country Meadows in Park Hills, Missouri at the age of 82 years. Thelma was a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness and loved being a mother to her eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lily Beck; her husband, John Francis Conley; children, Gary Conley and Carolyn Rosado; brothers, Leo Lloyd, Leroy Beck and Jim Beck; sisters, Catherine Fleeman, Helen Carroll, Cleo Carroll and Louise Hardin. Carmel East Hospice Unit in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 62 years. Arleta was united in marriage to Phillip Davidson in St. Louis, Missouri in 1989. Marvin Ellis Godbey Marvin Ellis Godbey, of St. Charles, Missouri, was born at Cherryville, Missouri to Herman and Mable Godbey and passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the age of 84 years and 11 months. He was united in marriage on October 8, 1949 in Crawford County to Zeldia Godbey (nee Chandler) and to this union two children were born. Marvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he was a Tank Gunner in the Korean War. He was a retired Chrysler Mechanic after 35 plus years of service. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Loretta Godbey, Charlie Godbey and Betty Stricklin; and nephew, Larry Godbey. He is survived by one son, Theodore E. (Karen) Godbey of Overland, Missouri; one daughter, Dorothy L. Hart of Rolla, Missouri, formerly of High Gate, Missouri, was born on May 7, 1923 at St. James, Missouri to Thomas Emmett and Nellie C. (Howard) Hart and passed away at the Benchmark Healthcare of Rolla, in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 8 days. He was united in marriage to Norma Ruth Henry on June 19, 1948 in St. James, Missouri. Harold was a gentleman who was quiet by nature, but he was strong in spirit. He served his country in the Navy during WWII. He was very active in the construction of the building at the High Gate Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 25 years.  He also was a appliance repairman where he and his wife owned Hart Appliances on 7th Street in Rolla, Missouri for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Nellie Hart; three brothers, Chesley, Thurmond and infant Eldon Hart; and five sisters, Maxine Schrieber, Iva Wallace, Dessie Smith, Elva Koch and Shirley Belt. He is survived by his wife, Norma Hart of Rolla, Missouri; one son, Robert H. Hart and wife Susan of Rushford, Minnesota; one brother, Doyle H. Hart and wife Mary of Union, Missouri; two grandchildren, Vicki Pierret and husband Chris and Erica Cook and husband A.J.; two great grandchildren, Simon and Lucas Pierret; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Jeanice Irene Powell Jeanice Irene Powell was born on September 5, 1937 to Leslie and Emma (Wilson) Sherrick and passed away Saturday August 10, 2013 at the age of 75 years. She was a 1955 graduate of John F. Hodge High School in St. James, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Bob Powell on August 18, 1956 and to this union one son was born. Jeanice worked as a cartographer at the USGS, retiring in 1992 with 30 years of service. She was a member of Oak Meadow Country Club and she also served as past president of the Rolla Jaycee-ettes as well as past president of the Rolla Lioness Club. She was a member of St. James Christian Church. Jeanice was a multi-talented individual. She was Salutatorian of her graduating class. She was an avid bowler, her average consistently ranked near the top for women keglers in the area. She served as youth coach for many years in the 60’s when youth leagues originally formed in the Rolla area. As a golfer, Jeanice became one of the better women golfers in the area. In fact, she shot par on a number of holes while playing a round with her granddaughter Lara just a week before her passing. She enjoyed knitting, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Emma Sherrick; her step-father, Clarence Happel; uncle, Earl Wilson; niece, Brenda Happel and grandson, Chris Campbell. She is survived by her husband, Bob Powell of Rolla, Missouri; son, Rick Powell of Rolla, Missouri; brother, Ben Sherrick and wife Hilda of St. James, Missouri; brother, Pete Happel and wife Betty of Walla-Walla, Washington; brother-in-law, Don Powell of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Doris (Powell) Whites of Galion, Ohio; former daughter-in-laws, Sharon Powell of Issaquah, Washington, Jarena Fleischman of Rolla, Missouri and Lisa Strauser of Rolla, Missouri; granddaughters, Rene (Campbell) Price and husband Rex of Snoqualmie, Washington, Elizabeth Young of St Louis, Missouri, Ashley (Hoffman) Campbell and husband Ronnie of Rolla, Missouri, Bethany Powell and Lara Powell of Rolla, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Jason Allan Weiskopf Jason Allan Weiskopf of Bourbon, Missouri was born June 30, 1972 in Sullivan, Missouri to Norman and Nancy Juergens Weiskopf and  passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the age of 41 years. He and Lisa Harrison were married July 2, 2011 in Bourbon, Missouri. Jason grew up in Sullivan attending St. Anthony Grade School and Sullivan High School.  He had a passion for writing stories and was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman.  Jason loved playing basketball, baseball and boating on the Meramec. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Warren and Leona Weiskopf and his maternal grandfather, Myran (Gene) Juergens. He is survived by his wife, Lisa (Harrison) Weiskopf of Bourbon, Missouri; father, Norman “Bud” Weiskopf of Union, Missouri; mother, Nancy Weiskopf of Sullivan, Missouri; two step children, Alex and Amanda Weaver, both of Bourbon, Missouri; maternal grandmother Florence Juergens; brother, Corey Weiskopf and wife Lisa of Sullivan, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jordyn, Aaliyah and Amiyah; uncles, Richard Juergens and Ronald Weiskopf; aunt, Lavern Biehl; and nieces, Lexie and Ronie Weiskopf; other relatives and friends.
