Clinton W. Laubach
Clinton W. Laubach, son of Howard W. Laubach and Gertie M. Schafer Laubach
was born July 15, 1930 in Darien, Mo. and passed away July 30, 2001 in
Paragould, Arkansas at the age of 71 years and 15 days.
Clinton was united in marriage to Pearl Callahan on February 11, 1951 and
to this union two sons were born. Pearl passed away March 31, 1992. Clinton
married Richene Emory December 4, 1999.
Clinton is survived by his wife, Richene Emory Laubach of Paragould,
Arkansas, two sons, Gary W. Laubach and wife Norma of Paragould, Arkansas,
and Dennis Clinton Laubach of Benton, Mo., four grandchildren, Michelle
Laubach, Craig Laubach, Amy Laubach and Jeff Laubach, two
great-grandchildren, Madison Pearl Laubach and William Kolby Shaw.
Two step-children, Steven Dunlap of Willow Springs, Mo. and Richelle
Leighty of Willow Springs, Mo., two step-grandchildren, Amy Woodley and
Ethan Leighty and one step-great-grandson, Michael Woodley, one
brother-in-law, Floyd Ragan of Salem, Mo., and four sisters-in-law, Mary
Martin and Esther Harrison of Rolla, Mo., Lena Kerr of Salem, Mo., Mavis
Callahan of St. Charles, Mo.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Pearl Callahan
Laubach and his sister, Maxine Ragan.
Clinton, a member of Southside Community Church and was a charter member of
2nd Baptist Church in Salem.
Funeral services for Clinton W. Laubach were held August 3, 2001 in the
Spencer Chapel in Salem with Rev. Chuck Whitmire officiating. Special music
was provided by Annette Steelman with Ann Emory as pianist. Serving as
pallbearers were Jeff Laubach, Craig Laubach, Charles Whitmire, Kenny
Harrison, David Kerr, Donnie Schafer. Serving as honorary pallbearers were
Bob Schafer, Floyd Ragan, Dan Callahan, Wayne Ragan, Steve Dunlap, Victor
Leighty. Interment was in the North Lawn Cemetery with all arrangements
under the direction of the Spencer Funeral Home.
William Earl Mullen
William Earl "Moon" Mullen, 78, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Monday,
July 23, 2001, at his home. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday,
July 26, at the Amos Family Chapel in Shawnee with burial in Johnson County
Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the
chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Shawnee Mission
Hospice.
Mr. Mullen was born in Leasburg, Mo. He served in the US Army during World
War II in the South Pacific Theatre. He married Elinor Broccard, April 3,
1947 in Steelville, Mo. Mr. Mullen worked for General Motors for 51 years
and retired in April of this year. He was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Shawnee, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 846 in Overland Park,
The Disabled American Veterans, and was a 51-year member of Local 31 of the
United Auto Workers Union.
Mr. Mullen is survived by his wife, Elinor of the home; a daughter, Sandi
Riechman, Overland Park, Kansas; two sons, Gary Steven Mullen, Mission
Kansas and R. Dennis Mullen, Wellsville, Kansas; three grandsons, Michael
T. Welch, Overland Park, Kansas, Mason William Mullen and Dennis Paul
Mullen, both of Wellsville, Kansas; two sisters, Virginia Wallis, Bourbon,
Mo. and Marie Nixon, Auxvasse, Mo.; two brothers, Dennis LeRoy Mullen,
Bourbon, Mo. and Oliver Wendell Mullen, Sullivan, Mo.
Mr. Mullen was a very devoted family man and had a great love for his
country. He also had a passion for antique cars and loved all of God's
creatures, especially his pet dogs.
Arrangements were under the care of the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
George Marvin Piazza
George Marvin Piazza was born on Monday, January 10, 1910 at Rosati, Mo. to
Anthony Piazza and Marie Puzzera Piazza. He departed this life on Thursday,
August 16, 2001 at his son's home near Bourbon, Mo. at the age of 91 years,
7 months and 6 days.
George grew up in Rosati, Mo. in a family of first generation Italian
Americans. His parents were both born in San Antonio, Italy. On August 2,
1927 George enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged
on June 23, 1933 having achieved the rank of Machinist Mate Second Class.
Later after World War II had begun, George joined the United States Coast
Guard and served from August of 1942 until September 1945.
On October 16, 1937 George Marvin Piazza was united in marriage to Kathryn
Matilda Ramori at Rosati, Mo., and to this union two sons were born.
For several years George and Katie and their family lived in Overland, Mo.
George was a carpenter by trade, and worked mostly in commercial
construction. George enjoyed being with his family, working in the yard and
garden, and reading in his spare time. He was a member of St. Paul's
Episcopal Church in Overland, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Katie; three brothers,
Victor, Joseph, and Robert; and four sisters, Henrietta, Barbara, Vera, and
Eda.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his dear children, Dennis N.
Piazza and wife Mary Ellen of University City, Mo. and Bruce L. Piazza and
wife Diane of Bourbon, Mo.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Louise
Stark of West Palm Beach, Florida, Ernestine Bond of St. Louis, Mo., Hector
Ramori and wife Lillian of Cuba, Mo. and Domenic Ramori and wife Daphne of
Cuba, Mo.; four grandchildren, Ellen Piazza of Charlotte, North Carolina,
Joel Piazza of St. Charles, Mo., Lindsey Piazza, and Griffin Piazza of
Bourbon, Mo.; one great-granddaughter, Haley Piazza of St. Charles, Mo.;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, all who will sadly miss
and fondly remember George Piazza.
Visitation was on Saturday, August 18, 2001 at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba,
Mo. from 9-11 a.m.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. on August 18, 2001 at Hutson Chapel in
Cuba, Mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating.
Pallbearers were Gordon Steffen, Warren Steffen, Damon Ramori, Raymond
Ederati, Dennis Piazza, and Bruce Piazza.
Burial was in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Cuba, Mo.
All arrangements were under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba,
Mo.
Dorothy M. Record
Dorothy M. Record of Sullivan, Mo. passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2001
at the age of 77 years.
Mrs. Record was born on August 25, 1923 in Centerville, Mo., to John Walter
and Josephine (Hines) Cross. As a young girl, she moved with her family to
the Sullivan area, where she has continued to be a lifelong resident. On
January 10, 1942 Dorothy was married to Marcus Laverne Record in Union,
Mo., and to this union four children were born.
Throughout her adult years, she served her family as a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. Dorothy especially
enjoyed working with flowers, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She was
a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sullivan. She will be
remembered and cherished as an extremely loving and caring person, who also
possessed a great sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband, Marcus Laverne Record of Sullivan; one son,
Floyd Ray Record and wife, Judith of Sullivan; three daughters, Shirley
Weber and husband, Joe of Cuba, Mo., Peggy Strong and husband, Gary of
Jefferson City, Mo., and Teresa Hofmeister and husband, David of St.
Peters, Mo.; two sisters, Stella Merit and Jewel Bartel, both of Sullivan;
nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other
relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Record was
preceded in death by four brothers, Earl, Ernest, Raymond, and Arvil Cross,
and one sister, Bertha Barron.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2001
from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Paul Gray
officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. If desired
contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sullivan in memory
of Mrs. Dorothy M. Record.
Bonnie Lee Self
Bonnie Lee Self nee Atchison was born Thursday, July 8, 1915 in Dillard,
Missouri to the late Hobart and Flossie Elizabeth Halbert Atchison, and
departed this life August 12, 2001 at the St. Joseph West Hospital in Lake
St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 4 days.
Bonnie married Lawrence Lemuel Self on September 22, 1933 in Salem,
Missouri and to this union three children were born. She and Lawrence made
their home together until his death in 1964. Bonnie lived in Defiance,
Missouri for the past 26 years and moving there from Harvester, Missouri.
Bonnie accepted the Lord many years ago and was a member of the Kings
Highway Baptist Church in St. Charles, Missouri. Bonnie worked as a
beautician for several years. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, tending her
flowers, and most of all the time she spent with her family especially her
grandchildren.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence, her son
William, three brothers Mack Atchison, Bill Atchison and Albert Atchison
and one sister-in-law Jean Atchison.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving daughters, Bonnie
Wilson of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; and Carrol Malchert of Texas
Residential Home in Houston, Missouri; her brother Ray Atchison and wife
Rosie of Steelville, Missouri; and sister-in-law Betty Atchison of
Steelville, Missouri.
Her aunt Rosie Halbert of Steelville, Missouri; seven grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren and one step grandchild, nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember
Bonnie Lee Self.
Visitation was held Tuesday, August 14, 2001 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the
Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at the Hutson
Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson
officiating. Paul Hutson sang "On the Wings of a Dove," and "The Old Rugged
Cross." Pallbearers were Dale Wilson, Steve Wilson, Ray Atchison, John
Atchison and J.T. Ransom.
Burial was in the Freeman Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. All arrangments
under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Charles "Butch" Slezak
Charles "Butch" Slezak of Sullivan, Mo. passed away on Thursday, August 16,
2001 at the age of 53 years.
Mr. Slezak was born on December 14, 1947 in St. Louis, Mo. to Charles G.
and Dorothy L. (Dunnigan) Slezak. "Butch," as he was fondly known to family
and friends, was raised in Sullivan, graduated from Sullivan High School in
1965, and continued to be a lifelong resident of Sullivan. After high
school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and honorably served his
country during the Vietnam era until 1969, having attained the rank of
Sergeant. "Butch" worked in Sullivan as an office manager for the W. H.
Powell Lumber Company and the Koelling Lumber Company, and later became the
owner of the Meramec Lumber Company. He also served as the manager of the
Pioneer Truss Company in Owensville. "Butch" was an avid bowler, and, as
such, attended many bowling tournaments on the local, state, and national
level. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, movies, and books, but
found special pleasure in spending time with his family and friends,
especially his grandchildren. "Butch" was a member of the New Testament
Baptist Church in Sullivan. He will be remembered and cherished as a
fun-loving person who possessed a great sense of humor, and also as a man
who never met a stranger.
He is survived by one son, Jason Slezak and wife, Carrie, of Ramstein Air
Force Base in Germany; one daughter, Carma Smith of Bourbon, Mo.; his
parents, Charles and Dorothy Slezak of Sullivan; one brother, Tom Slezak
and wife, Roxanne, of Sullivan; one sister, Linda Leake and husband, Jay,
of Sullivan; three grandchildren, Lacie and Hannah Slezak and Wyatt Smith;
two nieces, Kylie Slezak and Lisa Leake; one nephew, Keith Slezak; other
relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2001 from
the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Oliver Mullen
officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. If desired,
contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in memory of
Charles "Butch" Slezak.
