MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 24, 2000 Leon Dwight Hickman Leon Dwight (Butch) Hickman was born Tuesday, October 7, 1941, at Shelbyville, Illinois, a son of the late Sidney Rolla Hickman and Frances Levenia (Roberts) Hickman. He entered eternal rest Wednesday, August 18, 2000, in St. Louis, Mo., at the age of 58 years, 10 months and 9 days. In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Roberts. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are three sons, Michael Hickman and wife Robin of Cuba, Mo., Sean Hickman and wife Christine of St. Clair, Mo., Jace Hickman of Florissant, Mo.; three daughters, Sandra and husband Les Fink of Blue Eye, Mo., Beth Hickman of Cuba, Mo. and Jamie Young of Steelville, Mo. One brother, Sidney Dale Hickman of Steelville, Mo.; one sister-in-law Eva Roberts of Shelbyville, Illinois, special friends, Larry and Pat VanMeter of Arnold, Mo. and Earl and Linda Ramsey of Cahokia, Illinois; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Leon Dwight Hickman lay in state after 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2000 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Marvin Ivie officiating. Musical selections were provided by Betty Ivie. Committal prayers and interment were in Sellers Cemetery, Dillard, Mo. Pallbearers were Brian Bailey, Richard Cassidy, Wesley Hickman, Earl Ramsey, Lloyd Setzer and Larry VanMeter. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Janet Marie Moss Janet Marie Moss nee Sumner of Cuba, Mo. was born on September 29, 1939 at Cuba, Mo. to the union of William Sumner and Olivia Chumley nee Hamilton and passed away on August 14, 2000 at Rolla, Mo. at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 15 days. Janet worked at the Brakes Parts Company of Cuba, Mo. for the last year that she worked. She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell "Polly" and Olivia Chumley. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons Charles T. Nichols and wife Mary Lee and Samuel J. Moss and wife Vickie; two daughters Lisa J. Harris and friend Tim Horsefield and Tina M. Strawn and husband Will; one brother William Sumner and wife Ronnie; two sisters Pamela Watt and husband Gary and Paula Chumley and friend Norman Souders; 10 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Janet was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Memorial services for Janet Marie Moss was held on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Britton Chapel, Cuba, Mo. with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Joseph E. Sidebottom Joseph E. Sidebottom was born Friday, April 1, 1921, at Morgan County, Mo., a son of the late Norman Arlington Sidebottom and Maude May (Stickney) Sidebottom. He died Saturday, August 12, 2000, at Eugene, Oregon, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 11 days. On August 5, 1971, Joseph was united in marriage to Flora Elaine Cape, daughter of Elaine and William Russell Cape. They enjoyed twenty-six years together, before her death June 10, 1998. In addition to his parents and Flora he was preceded in death by seven brothers. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are two sons and two daughters, Robert Sidebottom and wife Mary, Joyce and husband Alan Terry, all of Jefferson City, Mo., Charles Marsh and wife Linda of Ohio, Judy and husband Charlie Mallicoat of Warsaw, Mo.; a step-daughter, Vivian and husband Rudy Hernandez of Eugene, Oregon. One brother, George Duke Sidebottom of Utah; 3 sisters, Lola Schmitz of Kansas City, Ilene of Tennessee, and Avanal of Kansas City, Kansas; mother-in-law Elaine Cape of Bourbon, Mo. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Sue Cape of Cuba, Mo., Edwin and Marion Cape of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Harold and Virginia Cape of Steelville, Mo., Norma and Leon Brown of Peru, Indiana; 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Joseph E. Sidebottom lay in state after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Graveside services with interment were held at Hibler Cemetery, Rural Steelville, Mo., 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2000 with Rev. Alan Miles officiating. Pallbearers were Kent Marsh, Brian Millicoat, Christopher and Thomas Sidebottom, Harold and Wayne Cape. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. David Michael Boswell David Michael Boswell of Steelville, Mo. was born on December 14, 1956 in St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Lester Henry Boswell and Mary Patricia Boswell nee Power and passed away on August 15, 2000 at the St. John's Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 43 years, 8 months and 1 day. David was preceded in death by his father Lester Henry Boswell. On February 5, 1992 he was united in marriage to Loretta Greenwalt. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his wife Loretta Boswell; one son David Michael Boswell, Jr.; mother Mary "Pat" Boswell; stepchildren Mike and Latisha Campbell; two brothers Lester "Mickey" Boswell, Jr. and wife Julie and Dan Boswell and wife Dee; five sisters Donna Koenen and husband Tony, Sandy Baumann, Patty Talamate and husband Jerry, Karen Garbo and husband Sam and Lisa Libhart and husband Don; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. His son, David, wrote a story that best described his dad: My dad was a wonderful person, he was strong and rough looking. Sometimes he could look intimidating, but all in all he was a big teddy bear. You know my dad had a big heart, it was big enough to love and care for us all. He did what any good man would do for his family, friends and loved ones. My dad was great at what he did because he was dedicated at what he did. I'm not just talking about concrete, I'm talking about everything in general. And that's the story about my dad! David was a devoted husband, loving father, son, stepfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. David Michael Boswell was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, August 19, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church of Cuba, Mo. with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. Interment was in Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. Memorials to the Boswell Family in care of Pat Boswell of Cuba, Mo.
