Hilda Mae Abney
Hilda Mae Abney, 83, St. Louis, Missouri, passed away
Thursday afternoon, August 10, 2006 at Delmar Gardens South. She was
born Friday, May 18, 1923 in Goodwater, Missouri, the daughter of
Orville A. and Bessie (Turner) Crocker.
March 19, 1941, Hilda was united in marriage to Herman
Abney. To this union, one daughter, Wanda and two sons, Charles and
Gary were born. Hilda and Herman enjoyed over 62 years together
before the death of Herman on July 2, 2003.
They made their home and raised their children in the
St. Louis area. While Herman worked at Prairie Farm Dairies, Hilda
worked at Carter Carburetor from 1951 to 1975. In 1979, after
retirement the couple returned to the Belleview area to live in the
country again for the next 20 years. In 1999 they moved to Arnold,
Missouri to be closer to their family and in 2001 they moved to
Delmar Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one
daughter-in-law, Ruthie Abney; one son-in-law, Wayne Ballance; five
brothers, Harold, Sam, Eugene, Jerry and Robert Crocker; three
sisters, Goldie Marie Crocker, Alpha Henderson, Lola Upton; six
brothers-in-law, Oren Henderson, Leonard Martin, Homer Crocker, Al
Upton, Roy Frazer, George Fisher; five sisters-in-law, Eleanor
Crocker, Almaretta Crocker, Lavelle Crocker, Delphine Crocker and
Norma Jean Skaggs.
Those left to mourn her passing are a daughter, Wanda
Ballance of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons, Charles Abney and wife
Judith of Farmington, Missouri and Gary Abney of Jacksonville,
Florida.
Two sisters, Inis Frazier of Farmington, Missouri and
Dolice Fisher of Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers-in-law,
Arnold Abney of Steelville, Missouri, Arthur Abney of St. Charles,
Missouri and Radis Skaggs of Viburnum, Missouri; six sisters-in-law,
Jeanie Crocker of Festus, Missouri, Jessie Crocker of Viburnum,
Missouri, Martha Abney of Salem, Missouri, Vernice Englehardt of
Steelville, Missouri, Betty Abney of Steelville, Missouri and
Shirley Abney of St. Charles, Missouri; seven grandchildren, three
step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one step great
grandchild, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services for Hilda Abney were held Monday,
August 14, 2006 in the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Casey
Reed officiating.
Special music "Precious Memories" and "Amazing Grace"
were played and "Blessed Assurance" was sung by Casey Reed.
Serving as casket bearers were Kraig Langeneckert,
Charles Abney II, David Crocker, Don Harmon, Mark Barton and Lance
Bowen with committal prayers and burial in the Sam Crocker in
Goodland, Missouri.
The family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral
Home of Steelville, Missouri.
William Fred Bay, Jr.
William Fred Bay, Jr. of St. James, Missouri was born
December 21, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of William
Fred Bay, Sr. and Leola Pearl Bay (nee Long) and left from this life
on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 29
days.
William was retired from the USDA Forestry Service as a
Contracting Officer, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Days Saints in Rolla, Missouri and was a 50-plus year
member of the Orange Park Masonic Lodge in Orange Park, Florida. He
proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S.
Navy. He loved his family, church, genealogy, cooking, reading,
traveling and being an adventurer.
He was united in marriage to Pauline Edgar on June 6,
1944 in Salem, Arkansas. Together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judith
Bay; four brothers, Charles, Donald, Carroll and Dewaine.
Those who left to mourn his passing are his wife,
Pauline Bay (nee Edgar); two sons, William F. (Lynn) Bay, III of
Arcadia, Florida and Robert C. (Yvonne) Bay of Palmer, Alaska; two
daughters, Janice Bay of Trapper Creek, Alaska and Robin Christopher
of St. James, Missouri; two sisters, Anna Douglas of Yuma, Arizona
and Delores Novick of Manchester, Missouri; 25 grandchildren, 12
great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was held Wednesday, August 23, 2006 from 6-8
p.m. at the Britton Funeral Home, 904 W. Washington St., Cuba,
Missouri.
Funeral service was Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 2 p.m.
at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 693 Forum Drive,
Rolla, Missouri with Bishop Kirk Christensen, officiating.
Interment at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
Ann "Theresa" Harris
Ann Elizabeth "Theresa" Harris nee Depew of Rio Rancho,
New Mexico, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the age of 80
years, 8 months and one day.
Ann was born to Floyd and Alma Depew on December 11,
1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Arthur E. Harris on
November 22, 1947 and to this union two children were born. They
moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico in 1972, where they have made their
home. She was an artistic painter, especially sceneries. She also
enjoyed sewing clothing.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents;
stepmother, Ruth Depew; sister, Barbara Fink; brothers, Doug Depew,
Chester Depew, Charles Daniel Depew and an infant brother;
sisters-in-law, Cleo Harris, and Cora Depew; and brother-in-law,
Freddie Watts.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Arthur
Harris of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; children, Michael Harris and wife
Sharon of Omaha, Nebraska and Lynette Shapiro and husband Kenneth of
Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Grandchildren, Joshua Harris of Omaha, Nebraska, Aaron
Shapiro and wife Monica of St. Peters, Missouri and Rebecca Shapiro
of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Brothers, Floyd Depew Jr. and wife Helen
of Manchester, Missouri, Howard Depew and wife Alice of St. Louis,
Missouri, Frank Depew, Raymond Depew and wife Sandy, all of Festus,
Missouri; Robert Depew and wife Brenda of Pevely, Missouri. Sisters,
Ruth Watts of Jennings, Missouri, Alma Depew of Bonne Terre,
Missouri and Joann Beckemeyer and husband Wayne of Cuba, Missouri.
Brothers and sisters-in-law, Courtney and Evelyn Harris
of Cuba, Missouri, Dan Harris of Phoenix, Arizona, Geneva and Duane
Randolph of Plano, Texas, Margaret Jane Elkins and Dale of El Paso,
Texas and Tillie Depew of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, nephews,
cousins and many friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, August 16, 2006 from 1-8 p.m.
at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 17,
2006 at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Michael
Harris and Rev. Ed Fink officiating.
Burial was in the Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville,
Missouri with pallbearers, Mike Beckemeyer, Rick Beckemeyer, Skip
Depew, Kenny Watts, Kenny Depew and Allen Depew.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson
Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Catherine A. Philpot
Catherine A. Philpot (nee Kolb) was born November 4,
1930 at Cincinnati, Ohio to the union of Harvey Jacob Kolb and
Myrtle Alice (nee Boland) Kolb and left from this life on Thursday,
August 17, 2006 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 9 months
and 13 days.
Catherine was united in marriage to Ballard Philpot on
June 28, 1949 at Cincinnati, Ohio and to this union six children
were born: James, John, Carrie, Cheryl, Jeffrey and Joseph.
She was an owner operator of an Income Tax Company in
California for several years. They moved from California to Cuba in
1995. Catherine was a member of the Golden Mariners Organization,
the Three Mile Club, and secretary of the bowling league in Las
Vegas. She enjoyed traveling (and got to see every place she wanted
to see), cruises, Las Vegas, all kinds of puzzles, reading, bowling,
swimming, genealogy, dancing, but most of all her family was her #1
priority.
Catherine was a loving daughter, wife, mother,
grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great
aunt, cousin and friend of many, she will be deeply missed by all
who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and
Myrtle Kolb; four brothers, James, Harvey, Elbert and Edwin Kolb;
sister, Grace Beattie and a host of other relatives and friends.
Those who are left to mourn her passing is her loving
husband, Ballard "Speed" Philpot of Cuba, Missouri; children, James
and wife Carolyn Philpot of Leasburg, Missouri, John Philpot of
Cyprus, California, Carrie and husband Bob Lawrence of Jamesburg,
New Jersey, Cheryl and husband Jay Bullard of Orange, California,
Jeffrey and wife Angelita Philpot of Desoto, Missouri and Joseph and
wife Lori Philpot of Sullivan, Missouri.
Eighteen grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister,
Gertrude Hayden of Fancy Farms, Kentucky; brother, Bill and wife
Elaine Kolb of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Kay
Kolb of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Jim Beattie of
Cincinnati, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held Friday, August 18, 2006 from 6-8
p.m. at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service was at
11 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Cuba United Methodist
Church with Pastor Paul Lathum officiating. Burial followed at
Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of Britton Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Lester "Jiggs" Wissmann
Lester Henry "Jiggs" Wissmann of Leasburg, Missouri was
born January 19, 1919 in Des Peres, Missouri, the son of the late
Henry Wissmann and his wife, Emma, nee Mertz. He passed away
Wednesday, August 2, 2006 in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 87
years.
He received his schooling at St. Paul Lutheran School in
Des Peres, Missouri.
On April 26, 1939, Lester was united in marriage to
Lorena Millsap at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Des Peres,
Missouri. They made their home in Kirkwood and Des Peres. He served
his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II
from June 1, 1944 to June 15, 1946. He received the American Theater
Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal.
Upon returning after World War II, Lester and his family
moved to Leasburg, Missouri. He farmed and also drove the school bus
for Bourbon R-1 School for 39 years. He was a member of the
Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon, Missouri, Church Elder for 40
years, past member of Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Crawford
County Missouri Extension Council, received the "Family Farm" award
from the Missouri Extension Council for two different years, Board
of Director for Crawford Electric for 18 years, American Legion Post
#456 for over 60 years, Leasburg Village Apartments Board of
Directors, and was currently serving as Chairman of North Crawford
Ambulance District and member for last 18 years.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence
Wissmann and Wilbur Wissmann; five sisters, Elsie Wissmann, Evelyn
Hoch, Vera Wise, Alice Ruck and Emma Mae Furguson.
Lester is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lorena
Wissmann of Leasburg, Missouri; one son, Gene Wissmann and wife
Donna of Union, Missouri; one daughter, Judy Arnet and husband Bill
of Columbia, Missouri; five grandchildren, Vicki Ross and husband
Mark, Kevin Wissmann and wife Ruth, Christina Corbett and husband
Shawn, Matthew and Benjamin Arnet; three great grandchildren, Kayla
Hoeft, Nathan Hoeft and Alex Wissmann.
Two brothers, Russell Wissmann and wife Marion of Des
Peres, Missouri and Tim Wissmann of Ellisville, Missouri; two
brothers-in-law, Emmett Ferguson of Beaufort, Missouri and Donald
Millsap and wife Audrey of California; two sisters-in-law, Violet
Wissmann of Winchester, Missouri and Hattie Sue Atherton and husband
Warren of California; one aunt, Bernice Mertz of Wildwood, Missouri;
other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service was held Monday, August 7, 2006 at 10
a.m. at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon, Missouri with
Pastor Matt Schaefer officiating. Burial in the Lea Cemetery in
Leasburg, Missouri.
The Wissmann family was served by the Oltmann Funeral
Home in Union, Missouri.
