MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 24, 2011 Norma Jean Brown Norma Jean Brown, nee Cape of Bourbon, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was born August 1, 1943 in Steelville, Missouri, to Wilbur Russell and Elaine Wilkerson Cape and passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 68 years. Norma was united in marriage to Leon Brown and to this union two daughters were born. She grew up in Steelville and graduated from Steelville High School in 1961. She later moved and lived in different states and ended up in Indiana. In the late 90’s, she moved back to her home area. Norma had been living in the Cuba Manor since December of 2007. Norma loved to read and especially her Bible. She also enjoyed working word search puzzles and watching game shows. For years, she loved collecting dishes and trinkets. She was known by her family for being very particular about her cars. Even as a young lady she always kept her cars cleaned and washed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Elaine Cape; and one sister, Flora Sidebottom and husband Joseph. She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Loshnowsky and husband Jeff of Peru, Indiana and Sharon Donaldson and husband Pete of Mexico, Indiana; three brothers, Wayne Cape and wife Sue of Cuba, Missouri, Harold Cape and wife Virginia of Steelville, Missouri and Edwin Cape and wife Marion of Collinsville, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jonah, Lucy, Joel and Joshua; other relatives and friends. Special music of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art” were played. Committal prayer and burial were in the Hibler Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Rhea Alice Cordsmeyer Rhea Alice Cordsmeyer of Columbia, formerly of St. James, Missouri, was born on December 5, 1932 in St. James, Missouri to Raymond and Thelma (Martin) Pryor and passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 10 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Thelma Pryor; one brother, Neal Pryor and one sister, Rosemary Barber. She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Bacon and Angela Cordsmeyer, both of Columbia, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Vera Pryor of Warrenton, Missouri; three grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Pastor Elmer “Dooley” Richard Garrison Pastor Elmer “Dooley” Richard Garrison of Steelville, Missouri was born October 21, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to Laborn L. and Mary Elizabeth Burk Garrison and passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 81 years. In 2003 he was united in marriage to Ida Griego Marquez. Dooley served his country honorably during the Korean War from 1951-1953. During his life, he served as a pastor and an evangelist traveling across the United States. He also worked as a salesman for an insurance company and as a chef cooking for several nice restaurants in San Antonio, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. The last eight years he was the pastor for Northside Full Gospel Church in Steelville, Missouri. Dooley had many talents. He loved playing his guitar and composed several songs. He also enjoyed writing poetry, painting and drawing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laborn and Mary Elizabeth Garrison; eight brothers, Joseph Aaron, Clarence, Hershel, Dorey, Wiley, Orville, Earl and Edward Garrison and infant brother; two infant sisters; and three step children, Fred, Anthony and Lawrence Marquez. He is survived by his wife, Ida of the home; two step sons, Alex Marquez and James Marquez of Salt Lake City, Utah; two step daughters Hazel Barr and Jolene Welch of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Helen Gray of Steelville, Missouri; step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Richard Franklin Johnson Richard Franklin Johnson of Davisville, Missouri, was born February 4, 1921 in Liberty, Missouri to James Burgis and Emma Beusau Johnson and passed away Monday, August 15, 2011 in Lesterville, Missouri at the age of 90 years. On March 17, 1941 in Potosi, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Alice Elizabeth Jaycox. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked in trucking and logging for many years in Huntsville, Missouri and retired back to his original home area. Hunting and fishing were his favorite hobbies. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Emma Johnson; his wife, Alice; one daughter, Margaret; one brother, J.B. Johnson; two sisters, Edwina Salsbury and Margaret McCarter; one grandchild and one great grandchild. George retired after many years of sales in the Agriculture Industry. He had worked for Sweet Licks Agriculture Company in Chicago and Cargill Agriculture Company during his career. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Cardinal baseball, Indy Racing Cars, movies on the Si Fi Channel and his cat “Tigger.” He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Scott Laxton; one great grandchild, Gavin James Aubuchon; one brother, Mike Laxton; other relatives and friends. Mary Elizabeth Sherrell Mary Elizabeth (Weber) Sherrell of Cuba, Missouri was born to John and Ada (Jones) Russell on August 21, 1922 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Cuba Manor at the age of 88 years. Mary formerly owned and operated Sherrell’s Grocery in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She taught Sunday School for many years at the First Baptist Church in Bentonville, Arkansas. She was a member of Injoy Christian Fellowship in Bourbon, Missouri. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking, flowers and singing. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ada Russell; two husbands, Clyde William Weber and Noah Sherrell; one brother, Abe Smith; two sisters, Pearl Watson and Mildred Felts. She is survived by her five children, William and wife Marianna Weber, John and wife Shirley Weber, Ralph and wife Mary Weber, all of Cuba, Missouri, Linda and husband Mick McGuire of Bourbon, Missouri, Nona and husband Rick Taylor of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Flora Elizabeth Tayloe Flora Elizabeth Tayloe of Owensville, Missouri, was born in Drake, Missouri on November 26, 1926, to Hannah Maria Christina (Liesemeyer) and J.H. August Wehrend and passed away Friday, August 19, 2011, at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri at the age of 84 years. On June 23, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charlotte, she was united in marriage to Willard Tayloe. She was an owner/operator of an appliance store. She was a member of St. Peter’s UCC Church in Owensville. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle, Odds and Evens, Country Friend’s Group, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of D.A.V. Chapter One and a former member of Owensville Ambulance District. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Tayloe; three children, Ricky Dale, Debra Kay and Ronald Tayloe; brothers, Alfred, William, Martin, Oscar and Harold Wehrend; and sisters, Dorothea Greunke, Olga Greunke and Alma Illig. James Noil Thomas James Noil Thomas was born April 14, 1929 in Shannon County, Missouri to Eliga and Pearl (Pankey) Thomas and passed away August 16, 2011 in Houston, Missouri at the age of 82 years. James was united in marriage to Betty Jean Counts and they were the parents of 10 children. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, telling stories and he loved music and square dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eliga and Pearl Thomas; wife, Betty; one daughter, Helen Carr; three brothers, Virgil, Clifford and Cleo Thomas; three sisters, Inez Richardson, Edith Cavender and Christine Thomas and one son-in-law, Rob Stephens.
