Leonard Marion Licklider
Leonard Marion Licklider of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 2, 1914 at
Red Bird, Missouri to the union of Adolphia Licklider and Alice Jane
Strain Licklider and passed away on August 19, 2004 at Steelville,
Missouri at the age of 89 years 10 months and 17 days.
On June 18, 1938 Leonard was united in marriage to Alice Peeters at St.
Louis, Missouri. One son, Ronald, and three daughters, Lori, Louise and
Shirley, were born to this union. Leonard and Alice had been happily
married for 66 years.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Barney,
Dayton, Clarence and Irvin Licklider and four sisters, Amanda Woodruff,
Jane Bode, Celia Bode and Corey Licklider.
Leonard was a lifetime resident of Crawford County. He was a member of
Trinity Chapel, Cuba Masonic Lodge No. 312, Republican Club, Cuba Rough
Riders and a representative of Farm Bureau for Crawford County.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife
Alice Licklider; children Lori Graves and husband Joe, Louise Gilbert,
Shirley Schmidt and husband Peter and Ronald Licklider and wife Vicki; 11
grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives
and many friends.
Leonard was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great
grandfather, brother, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be
sadly missed.
Leonard Marion Licklider was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri were Masonic services were held on Friday, August 20, 2004 at 7
p.m. by the Cuba Masonic Lodge No. 312.
Funeral services were held at the Britton Chapel on Saturday, August 22,
2004 at 11 a.m. with Gary Mace officiating. Interment was in the Licklider
Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Missouri.
Dema Edna Irene Roberts
Dema Edna Irene Roberts was born Thursday July 11, 1918, at Viburnum,
Missouri, a daughter of the late George Medley and Mary Rayburn Medley.
She entered eternal rest, Thursday August 19, 2004, at the Gibbs Care
Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 8 days.
On February 24, 1935, Dema was united in marriage to Willard Alexander
Roberts, son of the late Harvey and Ida Roberts. One daughter, Rosella
Mae, was born to this union. They enjoyed over fifty years together,
before his death, November 17, 1985.
In addition to Willard and her parents, Dema was preceded in death by her
five sisters, Mildred and husband Bradford Roberts, Leona and husband
Earnest Hedrick, Dorothy and husband Matt Richardson, Eva and husband
Clarence Turner. Margie and husband Emmett Coplin and sister-in-law, Pearl
Grayson.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter,
Rosella of the home in Steelville, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends.
She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be remembered
by her friendly greeting to everyone, she loved people. God blessed her
with a gift of love for children and they in return loved her. She did a
lot of baby-sitting for many Steelville families. Dema was a dedicated,
faithful, life long member of First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed
boating at Indian Hills Lake with family and friends. Eating out rated
high on her favorite things to do, along with going to Meramec Music
Theatre, listening to Southern Gospel Music and following the St. Louis
Cardinals ball-games.
Dema Edna Irene Roberts lay in state after 5 p.m. Saturday, August 21,
2004, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004, in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating, Rev. Joe Massey and Rev. Elbert
Mason assisting. Musical selections were provided by pianist Sharon
Hardecke and vocalist Gary Hardecke.
Committal prayers and interment were in Old Dillard Cemetery, Dillard,
Missouri. Honoring Dema as pallbearers were Matt Hardecke, Mark Perkins,
Paul Perkins, Bob Petty, Floyd Reed and T.J. Teed.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Virginia Lorena Usery
Virginia Lorena Usery, nee Wilkinson, was born Friday, May 27, 1927, at
Huzzah, Missouri, a daughter of the late Andrew Layfette Wilkinson and
Sarah Louise (Bays) Wilkinson.
She entered eternal rest, Thursday, August 12, 2004, at the Barnes-Jewish
St. Peters Hospital, St. Peters, Missouri, at the age of 77 years, 2
months and 15 days.
On March 27, 1948, at Belgrade, Missouri, Rev. John L. Britton united
Virginia in marriage to Everett Usery, son of Luther Hanson Usery and
Myrtle (Dicus) Usery. Two sons, Dennis and Kevin, and one daughter,
Vickie, were born to this union. They enjoyed 43 years together before his
death, May 10, 1991.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two
brothers, Delmar Wilkinson and Fred Wilkinson and wife Durcie; three
sisters, Olevea and husband William "Willie" Sease, Beulah and husband Roy
Turnbough, Allie and husband John L. Britton; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Granville Huitt, Etoluia Huitt, Charlie and Gwen Usery,
Jesse and Estelle Usery, Sarah and Doyle Kaysinger, Pete and Irene
Staples, Florence and Charles Mayfield, Myrtle and Thomas Wright, Jewell
and Floyd Britton, Glen and Ruth Usery, Kenny Usery and Zella Usery.
Virginia, the youngest of five siblings, found herself growing up with her
many nieces and nephews. In a time when money was scarce she enriched the
world with her beautiful smile and loving heart.
Many of her childhood stories would end up with "we may have not had much,
but we always had each other." This caring attitude set the course for her
life long journey. Putting everyone before herself, Virginia could always
be found lending a helping hand at various functions in her church life. A
long time member of Berkeley Free Will Baptist, St. Peters Free Will
Baptist and most recently attending the First Baptist Church of St.
Peters. You would be hard pressed to count a handful of Sundays in which
you wouldn't find Virginia with her smiling face sitting in the pew.
After the passing of her beloved husband Everett, friends and family
became the fuel that drove her. Whether it be Sunday School, dominoes,
enjoying Cardinals ball games, or the many fellowship activities she
shared with her family, Virginia's charming personality was always there
to brighten the occasion.
Loved by everyone who knew her and disliked by no one, Virginia will be
most likely remembered for keeping her friends and family very close and
her faith even closer.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three devoted
children, Dennis Usery and wife Vicky of O'Fallon, Missouri, Vickie
Edmonston and husband Mike of St. Peters, Missouri and Kevin Usery and
wife Carol also of St. Peters, Missouri; four grandchildren, Matthew and
Brian Usery, Amanda and Andrew Edmonston all of St. Peters, Missouri;
sisters-in-law, Rowena Huitt of Steelville, Missouri and Hallie Evans of
Alton, Illinois and brother-in-law, Harry Huitt of Sullivan, Missouri;
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends who will truly
miss her.
Virginia Lorena Usery lay in state 3-8 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004, at
the Baue Funeral Home, St. Charles, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2
p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004, in the Baue Chapel with Rev. Dan Martin and
Rev. Joe Braden officiating. Musical selections were provided by Don
Britton, Carol Martin, Gary and Linda Walls.
Committal prayers and interment were in St. Charles Memorial Gardens, St.
Charles, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Matthew Usery, Brian Usery,
Carl, Roy and Fred Wilkinson and Scott Aticheson.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
