Ivan Doyle Hornbeck
Ivan Doyle Hornbeck was born Wednesday, December 12, 1945 in
Poplar Bluff, Missouri to the late Charles Simpson Hornbeck
and Dorothy Virginia Flint Hornbeck. He departed this life at St.
Anthony's Hospital in Alton, Illinois on Monday, August 15, 2005 at
the age of 59 years, 8 months and 3 days.
Doyle grew up on a farm in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and
later moved to St. Louis, Missouri with his family where his father
owned and operated Suburban Cab Company.
Doyle married Kathleen Bosen on December 12, 1965 in St.
Louis, Missouri and to this union five children were born. Doyle
worked in the taxi cab business most all of his life and after his
dad sold the cab company, Doyle later opened Economy Cab in Pine
Lawn, Missouri and later North East Cab Company of Alton, Illinois.
Doyle lived a hard, fast, life but the one thing he
would tell you that he did right, though late in life, was when he
asked Jesus into his heart.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, two
brothers, Darryl Hornbeck and Jerry Hornbeck. Those who remain to
mourn his passing are: his companion of 17 years, Theresa Messey of
East Alton, Illinois. His children, Kathleen Rickus (Stanley) of
Dittmer, Missouri, Ivan D. Hornbeck Jr. (Stephanie) of East Alton,
Illinois, Greg Hornbeck of South Roxana, Illinois, Keith Hornbeck
(Mary) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Karla Hornbeck of Dittmer,
Missouri, Eugene Cundiff (Tara) of Wentzville, Missouri, Georgetta
McGuire of Centralia, Illinois.
Step children: Richmond Cundiff of Potosi, Missouri,
Jennifer Cundiff of Licking, Missouri, Erin, Kelly, Tony and Eddie
Messey, all of East Alton, Missouri.
Seven grandchildren, one step grandchild; one brother
Charles "Benny" Hornbeck of Steelville, Missouri; his aunts Nelda
Ruth George of St. Louis, Missouri, Janette (Bill) Garrett of
Pensacola, Florida and Deveta Hood of Seattle, Washington. His
ex-wife Kathleen Hornbeck of Dittmer, Missouri; nieces, nephews,
cousins and many friends, all who will fondly remember and sadly
miss Ivan Doyle Hornbeck.
Visitation was Thursday, August 18, 2005 from 10 a.m.-1
p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 1
p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Matt
Cook officiating.
Music selections were "My Way," "How Great Thou Art,"
and "Are You Washed in the Blood."
Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Marie Elizabeth Thomas
Marie Elizabeth Thomas (nee Schwidde) was born April 6, 1920 in
Oak Hill (Crawford County), Missouri to the union of John
Henry Schwidde and Mary Melissa (Pinnell) Schwidde and passed away
on Thursday, August 18, 2005 in Phelps County Regional Medical
Center, Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 85 years 4 months and 12
days.
Marie worked for Convey Heel Co. for many years. She
attended the Cuba United Methodist Church, was an avid quilter and
loved flowers.
Marie was united in marriage to Robert H. Thomas on
December 12, 1936 in Cuba, Missouri by Bill Sweetin.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son
in law David E. Center, two brother and two sisters.
Those who are left to mourn her passing are: son Robert
A. and wife Dina, daughter Virginia Center, sister Hazel Swain,
three grandchildren and four great grandchildren and one great great
grandson.
Visitation was held 5-8:30 p.m. Saturday, August 20,
2005 at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral Service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2005
at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Interment followed in
Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
