MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 27, 2003 Wilma Marguerite Crabtree Wilma Marguerite Crabtree nee Walker of Chesterfield, Mo. was born on Sunday, January 12, 1919 in Scotia, Mo. to Arvel Walker and Tressie Clonts Walker. She passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 9 days. Wilma married Chester Crabtree on December 24, 1935 in Steelville, Mo. and to this union one daughter was born. They spent most of their years in the St. Louis area where she was a devoted mother and wife. She especially enjoyed quilting, cooking, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ, St. Clair, Mo. and was also a member of the Steelville Mary & Martha Eastern Star #364. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Chester, parents, and an infant sister. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter Phyllis Russell of Chesterfield, Mo.; brothers Jason Walker and wife Bonnie, all of St. Louis County; sisters Lillie Stout of St. Clair, Mo., Ina King of Wentzville, Mo. and Vera Wymer and husband Rev. Howard Wymer of Elkland, Mo.; brother-in-law Ralph Fox of Denver, Colorado and sister-in-law Jennie Ruth Crabtree of Denver, Colorado. Grandchildren Jeffrey Russell and wife Catherine of Town and Country, Mo., Jennifer Klein and husband Paul of Houston, Texas; great grandchildren Andrew Russell, Erin Russell, Daven Klein and Dillon Klein, cousins, other relatives and many friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Wilma Marguerite Crabtree. Linnie Parrott Doville Linnie Parrott Doville nee Hackney of Cuba, Mo. was born on Monday, August 16, 1915 in Pemiscott County, Tennessee to James K. Polk Hackney and Mary Branam Hackney. She passed away at Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Mo. on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at the age of 88 years, and 7 days. Linnie married Arnold Parrott at Edwardsville, Illinois in 1934 and to this union two children were born. After Arnold's death, she later married Paul Doville on November 22, 1968 at Sterling Baptist Church, Sterling, Illinois. Linnie was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Normandy, Mo. and was a committed follower of Jesus Christ. She was a homemaker, loving wife and mother spending most of her time with family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arnold Parrott and Paul Doville; one son Teddy Parrott; two grandchildren Steven Parrott and Michael Parrott; ten brothers and one sister. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter Mary Kathryn Buettner and husband Pastor Larry Buettner of Cuba, Mo.; one sister-in-law Lillian Hackney of Michigan; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, cousins, relatives and many friends. Paul Doville Paul Doville of Cuba, Mo. was born on Monday, February 16, 1914 in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania to Ambrose George Doville and Prudence Elliott Doville. He passed away Sunday, August 17, 2003 at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 1 day.Paul served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WW II. He lived most of his life in St. Louis where he worked as a welder with the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Mt. ZionBaptist Church in Normandy, Mo. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge Mt. Moriah, St. Louis, Mo. He enjoyed painting, woodworking, and making crafts. He most especially loved his family and spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen Doville, and brother George Doville. Those who remain to mourn his passing are wife Linnie Parrott Doville of Cuba, Mo.; his stepdaughter Mary Kathryn Buettner and husband Pastor Larry Ray Buettner, Sr. of Cuba, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. JoAnn Engler JoAnn Engler nee Hartsfield was born Saturday, October 8, 1933 at St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter to the late William Henry Hartsfield and Annie Belle (Green) Hartfield. She entered eternal rest Friday, August 22, 2003 at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Farmington, Mo., at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 14 days. She was a graduate of Cherryville High School, Cherryville, Mo. JoAnn was united in marriage to Richard D. Engler, Sr. and enjoyed many years together until his death in 1969. From this marriage four children were born. She had many interests which included owning and managing a dog kennel. In addition, she was the owner of the Pucky Huddle Mercantile Store located in Davisville, Mo. She enjoyed her country store and cared deeply about each of her customers. In addition to her husband and parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard D. Engler, Jr. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three daughters Mary Beth Carroll and husband Tony of Farmington, Mo., Kathy Casey of Palm Beach, Florida, and Rose Ann Young and husband Bill of Davisville, Mo.; five grandchildren, James A. Committal prayers and interment were in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo. Pallbearers were Michael Abrams, Tony Carroll, Dave Gutknecht, Joseph M. Hendrix, Bill Smith and William E. Brent Hyde Brent Hyde, who founded a technology firm, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, in an accident while boating at Kentucky Lake. He was 44 and a resident of TTown andCountry. Hyde was vacationing with his family and friends over the holiday weekend. After watching a fireworks display, he fell into the lake while jumping from a friend's boat to return to his boat, the MLKK & Honey II. Autopsy results are pending, but family members and the police say they suspect he drowned. Hyde was born in St. Louis, He received a bachelor in science degree in engineering from Southeast Missouri State University in 1980. After graduating, he worked at Southwestern Bell as director of operations for its Messaging Services Inc., now known as Call Notes. He earned a master's degree in information management from Washington University in 1991. A year later, he accepted a buyout from SBC. He started his own business, Technology Applications Inc., a computer application company that developed customer service and billing software for Internet service providers. Over the next five years, the company expanded from his basement into four office buildings in Chesterfield. He sold his company in 1999 to Convergys then worked as a consultant until June of last year. Visitation was at the Schrader Funeral Home, Ballwin, Missouri. A funeral mass was held in Manchester. Burial was in Forever Bellerive Cemetery. Among the survivors are his wife of 19 years, Peggy; four daughters, Meghan, Lauren, Kristen and Katherine, all of Town and Country; his father, Jack of Columbia, Missouri; his mother, June Wright of Ellisville, two sisters Tamyra Diers of St. Louis and Kara Simpson of Toronto and two brothers, J.R. Hyde of Irvin, California and Christ Hyde of Ventura, California. Mr. Hyde was the son of June Litty Wright of Ellisville, formerly of Steelville. Eva Mae Kehner Eva Mae Kehner nee Caringer was born at Palmer, Mo., a hamlet near Berryman, on Wednesday, August 27, 1910, daughter of the late Charles Caringer and Jennie Elizabeth (Huitt) Caringer. She entered eternal rest Saturday, August 16, 2003, at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 19 days. Eva was part of a farming family and they worked farms in the Lost Creek, Shoal Creek, Huzzah and Dry Creek Valleys. She went to school at the one-room schools in Crawford County including Lookout, Czar and Valleyside where she was awarded an eighth grade diploma. On January 3, 1933, at Steelville, Mo., she was married to Winston Charles Kehner and moved about the state with him as he followed the teaching path. Winston taught at several of the Crawford County schools and then moved to Hulsey and Calico Branch. During the war Winston moved the family to St. Louis where both Eva and he worked in the war industry. They moved to Potosi, Parma, Mine LaMotte and back to Cherryville. Later Winston took a job with the Washington, Mo. school district and the moved to Marthasville, just across the Missouri River. One daughter, Charlene and three sons, Charles, William (Tommy) and Forrest were born to this union. They enjoyed thirty-eight years together before his death, January 16, 1971. Eva stayed on in Marthasville until 1988 when she moved to an old folk's apartment complex in Washington. In 200 she went to live at the South Pointe Residential Care facility in Washington. At the time of her death she was living at the New Haven Care Facility in New Haven, Mo. In addition to her parents and husband, one brother, Bill Caringer and one sister Eula Cisler preceded Eva Marie in death. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted children: Charlene and husband Paul Patterson of Sikeston, Mo., Charles Kehner, William (Tommy) Kehner and Forrest Kehner, all of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Gladys Eaton of Steelville, Mo.; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one precious great great granddaughter; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Her family will remember Eva for her wonderful smile. Eva Marie Kehner lay in state 5-8 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2003, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2003, in the Britton Chapel, with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Wayne Lamb, Paul Patterson, Phil Patterson and Mike Patterson. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Thomas H. McDonald, Sr. Thomas H. McDonald, Sr., of St. Charles, Mo. passed away on August 20, 2003 at the age of 75 years. He was born September 8, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mr. McDonald served in the US Army from June 24, 1946 to October 30, 1947. He retired from Grey Eagle Distributors, St. Louis, Mo., where he worked as a truck driver. He was the past-president of St. Louis Numismatic, and a member of St. Louis Teamster Brewery Workers Local #133. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer L. McDonald, St. Charles, Mo., one daughter, Melissa Mullally (Brian), Cuba, Mo., son, Thomas H. McDonald, Jr., (Lisa), Fort Myers, Florida, stepson, Todd Hertel, Spartanburg, South Carolina, stepdaughter, Tracy Johnston (Patrick), Edwardsville, Illinois, stepdaughter, Terri Hertel (Brian Parrott), St. Peters, Mo., three grandsons, Jacob, Benjamin, Michael and one granddaughter, Riley, one brother and one sister. Visitation was held at Baue Funeral Home on August 22, 2003 from 4-9 p.m. Services were held Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 10 a.m. in The Baue Chapel of St. Charles, Mo. Nelda Lee Nappier Nelda Lee Nappier nee Wright was born Friday, November 12, 1926, at Steelville, Mo., a daughter of the late Tillman and Flora (Burke) Wright. She departed this life Friday, August 15, 2003, at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 3 days.Nelda was united in marriage to Thomas E. Nappier, and one son and one daughter were born to this union. They enjoyed many years together until Thomas' death in 1982. In addition to her parents and husband, her son Mark Alan Nappier also preceded Nelda in death. Among those who remain to mourn her passing is her daughter Karen Crawford and husband William "Gene" of Union Springs, Alabama, two grandchildren Andrew Eugene Crawford and wife Jennifer, and Cassandra Lee Crawford; and one great grandchild Tara Akane Crawford, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Nelda was always an active, faithful, member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church and although she was a "fiercely" independent person, she had a great love for her church, community, and friends. Somehow, she found the time to donate her efforts to the Church Bazaar, the Library, her vegetable and flower gardens, and even worked in time for bird watching with reference book in one hand and binoculars in the other. She looked forward to seeing "Spike the humming bird" who returned every spring. Nelda also looked forward to and enjoyed visits from her neighbors Shirley Brown and Linda Hawthorne and friends Henry and Pauline Adams. Nelda will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Charles Likely officiating, and Deloris Bell providing the musical selections. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Henry Adam, Glen Brand, Andy Crawford, Gene Crawford, Bob Land, Jeff Land and Kerry Summers. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Geraldine McAdoo Wilkinson Geraldine McAdoo Wilkinson nee Coleman of Cuba, Mo. was born on July 28, 1907 at Huzzah, Mo. to the union of Samuel Blake Coleman and Ida Mae Huitt Coleman and passed away on August 15, 2003 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 96 years and 17 days. In 1924 Geraldine was united in marriage to Nolan McAdoo. One son, Dean, and one daughter, Doris, were born to this union. Geraldine and Nolan were happily married until he preceded her in death on November 3, 1965. On March 12, 1977 Geraldine was united in marriage to Fred Wilkinson at Potosi, Mo. They were happily married until Fred preceded her in death on November 3, 1997. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Haskell and Clarence Coleman and two sisters Matred Rand and Opal Stotler. She was a faithful member of the Cuba First Baptist Church of Cuba, Mo. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her son, Dean McAdoo and wife Keitha; daughter, Doris Doubek and husband Doyle; three stepsons, Roy Wilkinson and wife Sarah, Carl Wilkinson and wife Retha and Fred Wilkinson and wife Helen; two step-daughters, Vernice Adams and husband Theodore and Betty Haught and husband Don; two sisters Laverna Harper and Beulah Benson; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; nine step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; nine step-great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Geraldine was a loving wife, devoted mother, step-mother, grandmother, sister, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
