MO Local Obituaries for the Week of August 31, 2000 Jessie Marie Callahan Edgar Jessie Marie Callahan Edgar (nee Dunlap) of Cuba, Mo., formerly of Cherryville, Mo., was born Thursday, September 2, 1920, at Czar, Mo., a daughter of the late Walter Dunlap and Mary (Moses) Dunlap. She died Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Mo., at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 20 days. Jessie was united in marriage to Noah C. Callahan, one son and three daughters were born to this union. After his death in 1980, she married William H. Edgar. He, too, preceded her in death July 20, 1993. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, Howard, Wesley, Jeff and Roy Dunlap and one sister, Annie Bryant. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three daughters, Ruby and husband Lawrence Reed of Cuba, Mo., Barbara and husband Larry Elder of Cedar Hill, Mo., and Darlene and husband Gordon Younce of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one son Richard Callahan and wife Shirley of Cherryville, Mo. One sister Ida Spriggs of St. Ann, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Dunlap of Sikeston, Mo. and Eva Harris of Cuba, Mo.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation for Jessie Marie Callahan Edgar was after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Harrison Brown officiating. Musical selections were provided by pianist Shirley Brown and vocalists Rev. Bob and Carol Coleman. Committal prayers and interment in Martin Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo. Pallbearers were Larry Elder, Matt Elder, Bobby Younce, Charles Younce, and Gordon Younce. Arrangements under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Georgia Pearl Worley Georgia Pearl (Hutson) Worley was born November 11, 1929, in Keysville, Mo., to the union of Noble and Bessie Mabel (Oxendine) Hutson and entered eternal life at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, August 20, 2000, at Cuba Manor, after a bout with cancer that lasted over three years. She was united in marriage to William Calvin "Tad" Worley on March 8, 1946, at Cherryville, Mo. To this union two daughters were born. Pearl Jean (Jeannie) and Janet Gail. A devout Christian lady with a strong belief in church attendance, she took her children to church faithfully. Georgia professed her faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior as a young girl. She served in several churches as teacher, secretary, and song leader. Bible school would find her serving in one or all of those capacities. Gospel music was very special to her. She taught herself to chord on the piano and for several years the "Worley Family" sang together. Christmas was very special to her because of "Family," but also she enjoyed putting up the outdoor decorations because as she said" "It might lift someone's spirits and brighten their day." She was preceded in death by her mother and father; premature unnamed twins; one sister, Juanita Land; one infant brother Jerry Hutson; her grandmother-in-law, Belle Freeman; two sisters-in-law, Helen Worley and Dorothy (Dot) Hutson; and four brothers-in-law, Orville S. (Buster) Worley, Herman Bilbrey, James Weaver, and Harold Land. Those who survive to mourn her death are her husband, William Calvin "Tad" Worley of the home; daughters Jean Worley of Steelville, Mo., and Janet and husband Reggie Noot of rural Dunnegan, Mo.; two grandchildren, Rachel Noot, and Nathan and wife Christa Noot, all of Bolivar, Mo. Two sisters, Lueretta Bilbrey of rural Steelville and Leota and husband Warren Evans of Steelville, Mo.; one brother Nobel, Jr. and wife Linda Hutson of Cherryville, Mo.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Her love was great and reached beyond her immediate family to many children who thought of her as Mother or Grandma Georgie; Louanne, Emma, David, Lance, Danny, Alisha, Jess, Brandon, and many more. Georgia Pearl Worley (nee Hutson) lay in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Services: Britton Chapel, Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Len Young officiating. Her daughters, Jean and Janet sang her favorite songs: "Blessed Redeemer," "How Great Thou Art," and "In The Garden," as she requested. Accompanist of the organ was Dennis Cottrell. Her desire was that all would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Burial was in the Cherryvile First Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Kim Eaton, Lawrence Eaton, Jonathan Noot, Bob Santhuff, Harry White and Everett Williams. Arrangements under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Beulah "Pearl" Gormley Beulah Pearl Gormley was born December 1, 1901 to the late Hiram Vance and Molly Gregory Vance in Hinch, Mo., and departed this life on August 22, 2000 at the Breech Regional Medical Center in Lebanon, Mo., at the age of 98 years, 8 months and 21 days. Pearl married Arthur Lloyd Gormley on July 10, 1920 in Steelville, Mo. and to this union 8 children were born. She and Lloyd made their home of 58 years together until his death on November 16, 1978. She remained in Steelville until 1988 when she moved to Brumley, Mo. near her son Arthur and two years later they moved to Lebanon, Mo. Pearl accepted the Lord early in life and joined the Fairview Baptist Church, in Butts, Mo.; later the Centerpoint Baptist Church, in Steelville, Mo.; and was currently a member of the Buffalo Prairie Baptist Church in Lebanon, Mo.; she served the Lord faithfully until her health failed, but she still read her Bible through every year. She was a great cook and provided meals for the Ministers and Evangelists that came to do Revivals in her Church. She was a member of the Center Point Baptist Church for many years and served as a Sunday School teacher and worked wherever she was needed. Pearl enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting, and tending her house plants. She loved her family and was very fond of her many grandchildren. Pearl and Lloyd owned and operated the store and Post Office at Butts, Mo., for a number of years and later owned and operated Gormley Grocery Store East of Steelville until they retired and sold it and it became known as Blunts Store for many years, then Adams Grocery and now it is occupied by Cut Throat Sewing. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, 4 sons, Donald, Chester, Lester, and Noel Gormley, 5 brothers, Frank, Jewel, Ray, Tom, and Perry Vance, one sister, Mabel Coffman, her granddaughter Annette, and her son-in-law Carl Zander. Those remaining to mourn her passing are her loving children Arthur Gormley and wife Rosalee of Lebanon, Mo.; Warren Gormley and wife Becky of Republic, Mo.; Ruth Zander of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Gertrude Schroeder and husband Bill of Everett, Washington; her daughter-in-law Ruth Gormley of Catawissa, Mo.; and sister-in-law Hallie Vance of Cuba, Mo.; and brother-in-law Maurice Gormley and wife Marie of Steelville, Mo., her 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends all who will fondly remember and sadly miss Beulah "Pearl" Gormley. Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2000 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2000 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Arthur Gormley, Jr. and Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Janie James accompanied and Paul Hutson sang "Where We'll Never Grow Old, In The Garden, and The Old Rugged Cross. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
