MO Local Obituaries for the Week of September 4, 2003 Helen West Barnicle Helen West Barnicle, daughter of Frank and Eva Fulfs West was born Tuesday, February 24, 1914 in the Crooked Creek area, north of Keysville, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, August 23, 2003, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 29 days. Helen went to Daniels School, Keysville Jobe High School and Steelville High School, graduating in May of 1932. The following September Helen started teaching school in Phelps County. She also taught in St. Louis County and Crawford County finishing 41 years in all. In 1942 she graduated from Missouri University at Columbia, Missouri, having previously attended summer school at Rolla School of Mines along with going to Washington University in St. Louis, and Southeast Teachers College in Cape Girardeau. She had a great love for youth thus teaching that long and she always enjoyed meeting up with her former students. On May 22, 1943, Helen and W.H. (Jake) Barnicle were married at Jake's preacher friend, Rev. E.T. King's home in West Plains, Missouri. They were married 49 years at Jake's death, March 3, 1992. Helen became a member of First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri, April 29, 1931, a charter member of Wesco Baptist Chapel, Wesco, Missouri, March 1, 1953 where she was Sunday School Director for 10 years and at the time of her death she was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri. Helen was active in volunteer work, helping in several areas. On September 12, 2002, Helen was married to Floyd M. Gibbs in Salem, Missouri. She was preceded in her death by her parents, Frank and Eva West, and her dear husband Jake, brothers-in-law Monroe Barnicle, Roy Barnicle and wife Pearl, Vernon Barnicle and Fred Hoener. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her present husband Floyd Gibbs, her loving daughter Mary Lee and husband Doug Schroer of Urbana, Illinois, her dear son, Sam and wife Kathy Barnicle of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Nathan (Nate) and Emilia Schroer and Travis and Molly Barnicle. Also remaining are two sisters, Hayes Hoener of Prairie Village, Kansas, Jeanne and husband Bill Ohlhausen of Kansas City, Missouri. A brother, Willard West and wife Jacquie of Steelville, Missouri. Sisters-in-law remaining are Faye (Mrs. Monroe) Barnicle of Steelville, Missouri, Zelma (Mrs. Vernon) Barnicle of Lodi, California, nieces, nephews, other relatives, former students, teachers and many friends. Helen West Barnicle lay in state 4-9 p.m. with Eastern Star services, Martha Mary Chapter OES #364 officiating (Helen received her 50 year pin March 5, 1985) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2003 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Don Wissmann officiating. Music was provided by Iris Moreland pianist and Jerry Beers vocalist with specials, "Wonderful Peace of My Savior" and "Amazing Grace." Committal prayers and interment was in the Barnicle Chapel Cemetery, rural Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Nathan Schroer, Travis Barnicle, Steve West, Jim West, Bob West and Rusty Snodgrass. Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Homer Millard "Sam" Earney, Jr. Homer Millard Earney, Jr. was born Thursday, July 7, 1927, at Fairfield, Alabama, a son of the late Homer M. Earney, Sr. and Lola May Stough Earney. He departed this life Sunday, August 24, 2003, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 17 days. Sam was a life long resident of the Steelville area, except for the time he served his country in the United States Army. He enlisted at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, May 31, 1946 and was honorably discharged October 12, 1947 at Camp Stoneman, California. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal for duty in Japan. He worked for Brown Shoe Company of Steelville for several years and later worked for Cobblestone Resort, also of Steelville. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his son, Michael Earney of Joplin, Missouri; three daughters, Patricia Landreth of Capitola, California, Rebecca and husband John Widmar and Kathy Bray of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, special friends, Glenn and Shirley Grayson and Jenny (McCall) and Henry Gibson, all of Steelville, other relatives and many friends. Homer Millard Earney, Jr., lay in state from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2003 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Musical selections were provided by Bob Coleman and Darla Vance. Committal prayers and interment was in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri, with full military honors provided by Missouri Military Funeral Honors, Hotel Team, from Salem, Missouri and bugler Jim Eaton from Sullivan, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Gary Bray, Nathan Earney, Henry Gibson, Joshua Hankins, Gary Heflin and Frank Vance. Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Donna Jean Eye Mrs. Donna Jean Eye of Steelville, Mo., departed this life on August 30, 2003 at her residence having reached the age of 52 years and 7 days. She was born on August 23, 1951 at St. Louis, Mo. to Ethel (Gilliam) Hayes and the late Andrew Hayes. On September 3, 1967 she was united in marriage to Mr. Johnnie Eye and to this union one son and three daughters were born. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hayes. Among those who remain to mourn her passing from this life are her loving and devoted husband, Johnnie Eye of Steelville; her mother, Ethel Hayes of Park Hills; her son, Matt Eye and wife Ava of Cuba; her daughters, Tracy Reeves and husband Chance of Sullivan; Sheila Rogers and husband Mark of Cuba; Kimberly Eye of Sullivan; her brothers, James Hayes and wife Edith of Las Vegas; David Hayes and wife Shirley of Cadet; Thomas Hayes and wife Geneva of Farmington; Hershel Hayes and wife Lestie of Belleview; Elmer Hayes of Jefferson City; her sisters, Myrtle Patterson of Tiff; Mary Wren of Potosi; Eunice Jordon and husband Jimmy of Villa Ridge; Sue Ingrim and husband Gary of Fletcher; her brothers-in-law, Travis Eye and wife Rachel of Potosi; Dennis Eye of Potosi; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Hirsch and husband Emil of Potosi; Bonnie Dicus and husband Lawrence of Potosi; her nine grandchildren, Logan, Tyler, Blake, Alexa, Nikki, Dyllan, Hayley, Colby and Madison. Mary Annette Wielms Mary Annette Wielms, of Warrenton, Mo., passed away on Monday, August 25, 2003 in Warrenton, Mo., as a result of an auto accident, at the age of 41 years, 4 months and 19 days.Mary was born to Leman and Bobbie (nee McCleod) Kelley on April 6, 1962 in St. Louis, Mo. She was united in marriage to Roger D. Wielms on September 9, 1995 in Steelville, Mo. To this union were born two sons, George and Wyatt. They celebrated eight years of marriage. Mary was the County Director for Division of Family Services in the Gasconade and Osage Counties for 16 years. She attended Faith Christian Fellowship in Warrenton, Mo. Survivors include her husband, Roger Wielms, of Warrenton, Mo.; two sons, George and Wyatt Wielms, of Warrenton, Mo.; her father, Leman Kelley of Florissant, Mo.; one brother, Joel Kelley, of Ferguson, Mo.; one sister, Joan Dean, of Barnhart, Mo.; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bobbie Kelley and her grandparents. Funeral services were held Friday, August 29, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the Martin Funeral Chapel in Warrenton, Mo., with the Pastor Terry Roberts officiating. Burial was in the Rattles Family Cemetery in Warrenton, Mo., under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton, Mo. Martha Margaret Wynn Martha Margaret Wynn was born Thursday, February 15, 1917 at Carlsville, Illinois, a daughter of the late Frank Hinthorne and Sara (Greenwalt) Hinthorne. She entered eternal life Saturday, August 23, 2003, at St. Francois Manor, Farmington, Missouri, at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 8 days.On February 22, 1936 Martha was united in marriage to Raymond Francis Wynn, known as "Hammer" Wynn. Four sons were born to this union. February 23, 1986, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house hosted by their children. They enjoyed 58 years together, before his death August 30, 1994. In addition to her parents and "Hammer", Martha was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Brindall, Bessie Rinehart and Hazel Harripp; one brother, Earney Hinthorne; sisters-in-law, Emma Best, Maude Gravatt, Electa Arthur and Lottie Pietch; brothers-in-law, Bill, Bert, Roy, George and Joe Wynn; and one grandson, Jason Wynn. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her four sons, Donald Wynn and wife Susan of Pilot Knob, Missouri, Thomas Wynn and wife Lynda, and Fran Wynn all of Steelville, Missouri, and Gary Wynn and wife Fayette of Neosho, Missouri; daughters-in-law Liz Wynn and Glenda Wynn of Cuba, Missouri and Evonne Trowbridge of Steelville, Missouri; one sister, Helen Linqueist of Wood River, Illinois; grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.Martha M. Wynn lay in state 5-9 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2003, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2003 in the Britton Chapel with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Musical selections were provided by vocalist Danny Gruver and pianist Carolyn Hawkins. Committal prayers and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Adam, Anthony, Daniel, Jake, Jeremy, Justin and Travis Wynn.
