Selma A. Adcock
Selma A. Adcock of Lamar, Missouri, was born March 4, 1917 in Crane, Missouri
to Rev. James “Fred” and Myrtle (Gibson) Massey and passed away on Monday,
August 25, 2008 at Barton County Memorial Hospital at the age of 91.
On June 1, 1945 at Dixon, Missouri she married Claude Jones and he preceded
her in death on October 28, 1975. She married Harvey Adcock in 1989 and they
made their home in Lamar, Missouri until his death in 2000.
She was dedicated to her family as a homemaker and accomplished seamstress.
She was an active member of Lamar Assembly of God and enjoyed watching
baseball.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Kenneth Adcock; four
brothers, Carroll, Chester, John and James Massey.
She is survived by a daughter, Claudine Adcock of Lamar, Missouri; two
brothers, Joe Massey of Steelville, Missouri, and Darrell and wife Becky
Massey of Rocky Mountain, Missouri; sister-in-law, Louise Massey of Kansas
City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Paula Adcock of Lamar, Missouri and David
Adcock of Kansas City, Missouri; great granddaughter, Grace Adcock.
Visitation was held from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Daniel
Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the First
Assembly of God in Steelville, Missouri with burial in the Steelville
Cemetery.
Sherman Jack Bess
Sherman “Jack” Bess of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, December 5, 1926 at
Advance, Missouri to the union of Sherman and Bessie (nee Murphy) Bess and
passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 in Creve Coeur, Missouri at the age of
81 years, 8 months and 23 days.
Jack was united in marriage to Dorthy Wilson on April 1, 1946 at Cape
Girardeau, Missouri and to this union four sons were born.
Jack retired in 1988 at 31 years as a Bridge and Building supervisor for
Termanal Railroad in St. Louis, Missouri.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, riding his 4-wheeler and was an avid
Cardinals Baseball fan, but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his
family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Leon Bess;
one sister, Drucel Meyers; three brothers-in-law, Ed Rutledge, Lou Weith
and John Meyers; other relatives and friends.
He is survived by four sons, Dennis and wife Cheryl Bess of St. Peters,
Missouri, Kerry and wife Constance Bess of St. Louis, Missouri, Randy and
wife Denise Bess and Butch and wife Christine Bess, all of Cuba, Missouri;
two brothers, Franklin and wife Shirley Bess of Sunset Hills, Missouri and
Jerry and wife Joan Bess of Wildwood, Missouri; two sisters, Glenda Rutledge
of Fenton, Missouri and Linda Weith of Texas; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Bess
of Herculaneum, Missouri; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two
step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home
of Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Britton Funeral
Home with Pastor Paul Lathum officiating.
Interment to follow at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Hazel Maxine Gruver
Hazel Maxine Gruver of Steelville, Missouri was born August 25, 1920 in Joy,
Missouri to Charles and Viola Hester (Graham) Satterlee and passed away
Monday, August 25, 2008 at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville at the age of 88.
She was united in marriage on November 9, 1940 in Salem, Missouri to Fred T.
Gruver, Jr. who preceded her in death on May 7, 1996.
Hazel attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She enjoyed volunteering for the Food Pantry and making lap robes for the
Veterans Home and Gibbs Care Center. Hazel spent many hours sewing, quilting,
cooking and growing flowers. Most of all, she loved spending time with her
grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by husband, Fred; her parents; one son, Daniel
Neil Gruver; one sister, Eula Schwartz and husband Harry; one sister-in-law,
Jo Anna Bouse and husband Bill and brother-in-law, Murle Russell; one
grandson, Daniel Neil Gruver, Jr.; one grandson-in-law Will Rogers.
She is survived by her sons, David Thomas Gruver and wife Clara of Steelville,
Missouri, Donald James Gruver of Steelville, Missouri and friend, Karen
McPeters of Cuba, Missouri and foster son, Charles Yowell of Salem, Missouri
and Sharon Yowell of Steelville, Missouri; daughters, Ruth Ann Cummins and
husband Burl of Owensville, Missouri, Sue Ann Cape and husband Wayne of Cuba,
Missouri and Dianna Rinehart and husband Ronnie of St. James, Missouri;
sisters, Juanita Immekus of Bourbon, Missouri and Pauline Russell of Aurora,
Illinois; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Gruver of Steelville, Missouri; eleven
grandchildren, Tom (Donielle) Farrar, Sam (Kymm) Farrar, Trevor (Mary) Cape,
Jimmy (Janet) Gruver, Justin (Tanna) Gruver, Charles (Nicki) Yowell, Wes
Yowell, Steffanie Rogers, Kathy (Bob) Carver, Andrea Yowell and Cheryl Gruver;
21 great grandchildren, T.C. Farrar, Sara Farrar, Cole Hafner, Samantha
Hafner, Danielle Farrar, Samantha Farrar, Josh Gruver, Amy Parrot, Emily
Gruver, Elizabeth Gruver, Jessica Carver, Amanda Carver, Tucker Cape, Connor
Cape, Hayley Cape, Jeremiah Rogers, Tabatha Rogers, Peyton Gruver, Tate
Gruver, Paxton Yowell and Brayden Moncrief; three great great grandchildren,
Paris Gruver, Ashland Parrot and Ethan Parrot; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Alan Miles
officiating. Special organ music of “I’ll Be Listening,” “Because He Lives,”
“I’d Rather Have Jesus Than Anything” and “How Long Has It Been” was played
by Wanda Ransom. Other music of “Thank You, Lord” was sung by grand-daughter,
Steffanie Rogers.
Casket bearers were Tom Farrar, Sam Farrar, Trevor Cape, Jimmy Gruver, Justin
Gruver, Charles Yowell and Wes Yowell. Honorary bearers were Steffanie Rogers,
Kathy Carver, Andrea Yowell and Cheryl Gruver. Committal prayer and burial
were in the Barnicle Chapel Cemetery in Steelville, Missouri.

Jon Phillip Guthrie
Jon Phillip Guthrie of Steelville, Missouri was born on Saturday,
January 28, 1956 in Steelville, Missouri to James P. Guthrie and Beverly J.
Cummings Guthrie. He passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the age
of 52 years and 7 months.
Jon married Linda Dicus in February 1974 and to this union three children
were born.
Jon was self-employed as a carpenter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working
mathematical formulas, spending time with his dog Rosie and most of all
spending time with his granddaughter Rylee or “Sir Walter Rylee”, his
nickname for her.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Otto Cummings; parents; and
son, Jason Guthrie.
He is survived by his children, Joey Guthrie and Jennifer Guthrie, all of
Cuba, Missouri; brother, Charles “Chuck” (Rebecca) Guthrie of St. James,
Missouri; sisters, Lisa (Doug) Hutchins of Collinwood, Tennessee, and
Vicki Stagner of N. Ft. Myers, Florida; grandmother, Lena Cummings;
granddaughter, Rylee Black, all of Cuba, Missouri; stepmother, Janie Guthrie
of N. Ft. Myers, Florida; special friends, Jim and Geneva Young of
Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. with funeral
service at 7 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Robert Huffine
Robert E. Huffine was born on March 26, 1925, a son of Byrl and Francis
Huffine nee Smith. He passed from this life on Friday, August 22, 2008 at
the age of 83.
He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in business. He held memberships to the Sigma Nu fraternity, American Legion,
Missouri United Methodist Church and the Columbia Country Club.
Robert was a charter member of the Ellis Island Foundation and the Ronald
Regan Library.
He served in the US Army during World War II in Hawaii, Okinawa and Japan
as a surgical assistant.
He retired from Shelter Insurance Company in 1990.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Barnett.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Huffine nee Schwieder of 54 years;
children and spouses, Alan and Angela Huffine and Nancy and Mike
Capriglione; grandchildren, Nicholas Huffine, Tracy and Ellen Capriglione;
sisters, Ruth Bartow, Mary Lee Bryant.
Visitation was held at the Parker Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 27, 2008
from 5-7 p.m. Following a private memorial service interment in the
Steelville, Missouri.
Wendell J. Huggins
Wendell J. Huggins of Bourbon, Missouri was born Tuesday, January 14, 1947
at Shirley, Arkansas to the union of James and Muriel (nee Williams) Huggins
and passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at his home in Bourbon at the age of
61 years, 7 months and 17 days.
Wendell was a Metal Polisher by trade. He worked out of the Union Hall in the
St. Louis area for many years and he last worked at Huggins Precision in
Sullivan, Missouri. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing
cards, but what was most important to Wendell was his family and spending time
with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eileen Blair; one nephew,
Melvin Douglas Mannon; other relatives and friends.
He is survived by two sons, Wendell Allen and wife Crystal Huggins of Bourbon,
Missouri and Scott and wife Stacy Huggins of Catawissa, Missouri; one
daughter, Cheryl Rice of Valmeyer, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Ashley
Felix, Christopher Schlemmer, Savanah, Jaden and Chase Huggins, Jacob and
Miranda Walton, one great grandchild Bailey Felix; two brothers, James and
wife Linda Huggins and William “Bill” and wife Deloris Huggins all of Bourbon,
Missouri; one sister, Linda Mannon of Bourbon, Missouri; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at Britton
Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Britton Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Honored to be serving as pallbearers were Wendell A. Huggins, Scott Huggins,
James Mannon, Ron Huggins, Bill Huggins, Jr., Calvin Robinson and honorary
pallbearers are Christopher Schlemmer, Jacob Walton, Jaden and Chase Huggins.
Interment to follow at Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.

Marilyn L. Johnson
Marilyn L. Johnson of Creve Coeur of St. Louis County, Missouri was born on
March 31, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed Tuesday, August 26, 2008.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Helen Greb.
She is survived by husband, John H. Johnson of 50 years; children, David
(Beverly) Johnson of Kirkwood, Missouri, Lisa (Marc) Braunschweig of Eureka,
Missouri and Mark (Tricia) Johnson of Steelville, Missouri; grandchildren,
Nicole “Nikki” and Blake Johnson, Isaac and Jordan Braunschweig, Isabelle and
Andrew Johnson.
Visitation was Friday, August 29, 2008 from 3-8 p.m. at Baumann Colonial
Chapel, Overland, Missouri.
Funeral service was Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran
Church, Olivette, Missouri with visitation at the church from 9-10 a.m.
Interment at 3 p.m. at Sanders Huzzah Cemetery, Huzzah, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Baumann Colonial Chapel, Overland,
Missouri.
Anna Marie Kincade
Anna Marie Kincade of Peculiar, Missouri formerly of Cuba, Missouri was born
to the union of Anthony and Pearl (Coon) Kaufhold on July 12, 1927 in Brisco,
Missouri and passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in Belton, Missouri at the
age of 81 years, 1 month and 14 days.
Marie was a former parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Fred, Norman and
James Kaufhold; two sisters, Mildred Bogue and Pearl Matte; one brother-in-law,
Fred Matte; one sister-in-law, Mary Kaufhold.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Kincade of Manhattan, Kansas and Michael
Kincade of Arkansas; three brothers, Tony and wife Jean Kaufhold of Cuba,
Missouri, Warren and wife Marge Kaufhold of St. Charles, Missouri, Bill and
wife Martha Kaufhold of O’Fallon, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Peg Kaufhold
of Jerseyville, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Leo “Rich” Bogue, Jr. of Cuba,
Missouri; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was held Friday, August 29, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral was Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Britton Funeral Home,
Cuba, Missouri.
Interment in Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Missouri.
Augusta M. Butler-Weber
Augusta M. Butler-Weber of Bourbon, Missouri was born August 15, 1922 in
Leasburg, Missouri to Luther and Pearl (Schmelz) Miller and passed away
Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the age of 86 years.
She married Robert Sullivan in 1940 and to this union one son was born. She
married Jewel Butler in 1949 and they were married until his death in 1985.
In 1990 she married Clarence Weber until his death in 1992.
She enjoyed taking care of her dog, embroidering and working word puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three husbands.
She is survived by a son, Lester Sullivan of California; step son, Jewel L.
Butler of Guesta, Calfornia; sister, Thelma Wenzel of Bourbon, Missouri;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday,
August 29, 2008.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the First
United Methodist Church in Bourbon, Missouri with interment following in
the Lick Creek Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
