Velma Ruth Bailey
Velma Ruth Bailey of St. James, Missouri was born in Phelps County on
January 2, 1944 to Tomy and Bessie (Williams) Blake and passed away on
Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the age of 68 years.
On November 14, 1980 she married Harold Eugene “Gene” Bailey.
Prior to retiring, Ruth worked many years as an information tech supervisor
for the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tomy and Bessie Blake; husband,
Gene Bailey; and one sister, Thelma Lamb.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Harris and Keven Tiberghien of
Edgar Springs, Cindy Harris and Mark Barton of Cuba, Missouri and Nancy
and Howard Bobbit of St. James, Missouri; two brothers, Henry Blake and
wife Mary and Gene Blake and wife Barb, both of Edgar Springs, Missouri;
two sisters, Alice Wagoner and husband Rodger of Jerome, Missouri and
Joice Jefferies of Fulton, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 14 great
grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Null and
Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 27 2012 at the Null
and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri with pastor Ray Cook officiating.
Interment followed in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla,
Missouri.
Virginia Mildred Hogan
Virginia Mildred Hogan of Bourbon, Missouri formerly of Cherryville,
Missouri, was born April 29, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to Thomas
Solomon and Theodocia Irene Wallis Harman and passed away Thursday,
August 30, 2012 at the Life Care Center in Sullivan, Missouri at the age
of 88 years.
In December of 1952 in Arkansas, she was married to Harry Hogan, Sr.
Virginia was a member of the Cherryville Baptist Church. She worked as a
cook for Cherryville School District, Viburnum School District and Bowers
and Cottrell Store. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, watching different
sports events especially the St. Louis Cardinals and being around her
grandchildren and all of her family. She will always be remembered as
saying the last words when family would leave, “love you more!”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Theodocia Harman;
her husband, Harry Hogan, Sr. in December of 1970; two sons, Peter Lynn
Hogan and Harry Hogan, Jr.; five daughters, Linda Collier, Penelope Hogan,
Fern Bryan, Shirley Collier and Rose Marie Avery; and one sister, Ruth
Pearl Moore.
She is survived by her four sons, Butch Avery and wife Carol of Bourbon,
Missouri, Gene Avery and wife Linda of Leasburg, Missouri, Mike Hogan and
wife Jeanie of Little Rock, Arkanas and Terry Hogan and wife Vickie of Boss,
Missouri; two daughters, Dormalee Morrison and husband Lonnie of Union,
Missouri and Claudia Dildine of St. Clair, Missouri; 25 grandchildren;
46 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Britton-
Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Terry Hogan
officiating. Special music of “Precious Memories” and “Blessed Assurance”
was played. Other music of “In the Garden” was sung by all family and
friends and “Thank You” was sung by Rev. Terry Hogan.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Sellers Cemetery at Dillard,
Missouri.
Casket bearers were Mark Avery, Mickey Dildine, Lonnie Gene Morrison,
Eugene Avery, Chris Bryan and Joshua Hogan with honorary casket bearers
Keith Avery and Casey Dildine.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
Robert “Bob” L. Leslie
Robert “Bob” L. Leslie of Byrnes Mill, Missouri was born Monday,
December 28, 1936 at St. Louis, Missouri to Lawrence and Verna
(nee Grider) Leslie and passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Fenton,
Missouri at the age of 75 years.
Bob retired in August of 1987, after 30+ years of dedicated service, from
General Motors in St. Louis. He proudly served in the United States Army
and he was an avid bowler with an average of 200 and a high score of 289.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Verna Leslie;
three brothers, Richard, Lawrence and Charles; one sister, Ellen;
father-in-law, William Cape and other relatives and friends.
Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy
are his loving wife of 22 years, Peggy Leslie of the home; four children,
Lisa L. Leslie of Ballwin, Missouri, Karen Paslawski of Ballwin,
Missouri, Jeffrey Leslie of Eureka, Missouri and Gina and husband Eric
Veatch of Chesterfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Anthony, Jon,
Pauline, Alexa and Megan; one great grandson, Ben; two brothers, Asa
Leslie of Sullivan, Missouri and William Leslie of South Padre Island,
Texas; one sister, Margaret Gray of Florida; mother-in-law, Patricia Cape
of St. Louis, Missouri; brother-in-law, Matthew Cape of Pacific, Missouri;
two sisters-in-law, Pam and husband Mark Smith of De Soto, Missouri and
Abby Cape of St. Louis, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Mizell
Funeral Home with Pastor Don Martin officiating.
Interment, prayers and full military honors followed at the Kinder Cemetery,
Cuba, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Mae Marie Long
Mae Marie Long of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012
at the age of 82 years.
She is survived by two sons, Guy Halmick of Sullivan, Missouri and Michael
Halmick of Bourbon, Missouri; one sister, Wilma Burkett and husband Wayne
of St. Clair, Missouri; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the
Southside Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Eaton
Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
She was cremated.

Missouri.
Daniel “Danny” Raymond Pitts
Daniel “Danny” Raymond Pitts of Cuba, Missouri was born on January 14, 1952
in St. James, Missouri to Raymond and Mary Eillene (Adair) Pitts and passed
away Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan,
Missouri at the age of 60 years.
Danny worked as a Baker at Eickelmann’s Bakery before becoming disabled and
also honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing,
being an avid fan of Elvis Presley, watching wrestling, playing bingo,
singing karaoke, scratch off lottery tickets and spending time with family
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Eillene Pitts;
one sister, Margaret Bailey; one brother, Richard Pitts; one nephew,
Michael Studdard.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Pitts of Cuba, Missouri; five children,
Cody and wife Natasha Pitts of Linn Creek, Missouri, Christy Pitts and
friend Donald Liley of Macks Creek, Missouri, Larry Whitford of Cuba,
Missouri, Christina Sherman of Steelville, Missouri, Kenny Whitford of
Boulder, Colorado; five grandchildren, Cody II, Prascilla, Angel, Ryan
and Kegan Pitts; three sisters, Alice and husband Lonnie West of
Bourbon, Missouri, Norma and husband Jack Studdard of Sullivan, Missouri,
Judy Studdard and friend Faron Hoppe of Cuba, Missouri; sister-in-law,
Sharon Pitts of Cuba, Missouri; brother-in-law, Larry Studdard; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. until time
of funeral service at 1 p.m. with full military honors at the Mizell
Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
As per his wishes Danny was cremated following the service.

Margaret L. “Marge” Senecal
Margaret L. “Marge” Senecal of St. James, Missouri was born to Roy O. and
O. Alice (Carroll) Brewer on August 2, 1923 in Cuba, Missouri and passed
away Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at her home at the age of 89 years.
Marge was the longtime owner/operator of Marge’s Café having served the
communities of St. James and Cuba. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling,
gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy O. and O. Alice (Carroll)
Brewer; one son, Arnold E. Senecal; one sister, Faye Parnell and one brother,
Pinckney Brewer.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia “Teresa” Barnhart of St. James,
Missouri; two grandsons, Shawn and Joshua Faulkner of St. James, Missouri;
three sisters, Janet Bialock and Jean Merritt, both of Cuba, Missouri and
Renae Cassidy of Steelville, Missouri: one brother, Donald Brewer of
St. James, Missouri; six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, August 30, 2012 9 a.m. until time of
funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri with
Pastor Darren Myers officiating.
Interment followed at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba,
Missouri.
Tina Laven Shockley
Tina Laven Shockley was born on May 11, 1963 in Rolla, Missouri to Edward
Eugene and Betty Sue (Haines) Shockley and passed away at her home on
August 25, 2012 in St. James, Missouri at the age of 49 years, 3 months
and 14 days.
She was a nurse’s aide for several years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Shockley.
She is survived by her mother, Betty Sue Shockley of St. James, Missouri;
three daughters, Michelle Chere Johns and husband James Johns of Rolla,
Missouri, Amber Renae Fenigold of Carthage, Missouri and Anna May Workman
of Vienna, Missouri; two brothers, Edward Eugene Shockley of St. James,
Missouri and Matt Eugene Shockley of Fort Worth, Texas; five sisters,
Kimberly J. Workman of Vichy, Missouri, Pamela Nadine Shockley of Rolla,
Missouri, Lisa Leann Baumgartner of Belle, Missouri, Tonia Regina
Spurgeon of Union, Missouri and Misty Lynn Bland of Freeburg, Missouri;
five grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was conducted on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 9 a.m. at the
Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
Graveside services were conducted on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 11 a.m.
at the Campbell Cemetery in rural Belle, Missouri with Craig Haynes
officiating. Pallbearers were family members.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James,
Missouri.
Joseph Lonney Valley
Joseph “Sonny” Valley, of Sullivan, Missouri was born November 14, 1946
in Tiff, Missouri to Raymond and Cecelia Valley Johanning and passed away
September 1, 2012 at his residence at the age of 65 years.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to
1967 in active duty and from 1967 to 1970 in the Army Reserve. Sonny
worked for many years at Hocker Oil Gas Plus in Owensville, Missouri.
He was preceded by his parents, Raymond and Cecelia Valley Johanning;
sister, Nancy M. Johnson; niece, Nancy Johnson and nephew, Ronnie Johnson.
He is survived by a daughter, Beth Valley of Lynn, Missouri; two sons,
Chris and wife Ladonna Valley of Sullivan, Missouri and Joe and wife
Sherry Valley of Cherryville, Missouri; three sisters, Diane Sumpter
of Sullivan, Missouri, Beverly and husband Andy Neilson of Bourbon,
Missouri and Ruth Burleigh of Cuba, Missouri; three brothers, Ervin
and wife Chris Johanning of Sullivan, Missouri, Mike and James
Johanning of Du Qouin, Illinois; eight grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 3, 2102 from 4-8 p.m. at the
Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at
the Eaton Funeral Home with the Rev Terry Knight officiating.
Burial was at the Bourbon Cemetery with full military honors.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan,
Missouri.
