MO Local Obituaries for the Week of September 7, 2011 John D. “Dode” Cason John D. “Dode” Cason of Cuba, Missouri was born to Doris and Nellie (Beacock) Cason on February 5, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri at the age of 90 years. John founded Cason Land Real Estate Company in 1974, which is currently known as Cason & Leathers Real Estate Company. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard Oct. 16, 1939 – Oct. 24, 1945. He was a lifetime member of the Cuba V.F.W. Post #7147 and St. Clair A.L. Post. An active member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Moolah Shrine Temple while living in St. Louis. John was a boxer for many years and won several titles in his career. He enjoyed raising cattle on his farm and could always be found wearing his cowboy hat and enjoying a good cigar. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Nellie Cason, Rease and Maude (Ellis) Cason; one daughter, Doris Lee; brothers and sisters, Tommy Cason, Delores Echols, Marcella, Alexander “Zan,” Ted, Shelby, Les and John Cason and Rosalie Lortz. Hatch-Harmon of Sullivan, Missouri was born on April 1, 1918 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Richard L. and Allie Fair (nee Ward) Kirby and passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the age of 93 years. She married Everett Galen Hatch on July 21, 1933 and to this union, six children were born. Dorothy enjoyed listening to music, dancing, cooking, and especially fishing. She loved her family and enjoyed telling stories. Jim was an iron worker and later worked as a truck driver. After retirement he moved to Indian Hills Lake where he served on the Board of Directors and helped as a security guard. He was known as a storyteller and he could give directions to anywhere. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his father, Omer Preston Hartupee; one step- daughter, Patricia Diane Papenburg. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hartupee of the home; mother, Evelyn R. Evelyn Irene Jost Evelyn Irene Jost of Sullivan, Missouri was born April 29, 1940 at Sullivan, Missouri to Jewel and Mabel (Hamm) Schlelich and passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2011 at the age of 71 years. On November 26, 1955 she was united marriage to Leslie Jost and to this marriage three children were born. She was employed several years in the shoe industry and had worked at many of the local shoe companies in the area which included the former International Shoe Company, Cuba Shoe, Midwest and Sullivan Shoe Companies. She was however, proudest of her employment with Von Weise Gear Company at St. Clair, Missouri until ill health caused her early retirement. Evelyn enjoyed cooking and family get-togethers. Evelyn was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Sullivan. On September 25, 1942 Ida was united in marriage to Elmer Leonard Kirkpatrick. Ida was baptized at an early age and was a member of the St. James Christian Church where she worked with the youth of many years. Ida loved her family very much and was always elated when they could get together to visit. She enjoyed visits from her friend old and new in person or by phone. Colon spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps serving in Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. He held a BA in History and Government from Columbia College. Gregory was a member of the Laborer’s Union #264 working in construction. His hobbies were riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, fishing and riding horses. Karen Ann Wynn Karen Ann Wynn, nee Cottrell of Cuba, Missouri was born October 7, 1951 in Davisville, Missouri to Vencil and Alline Harris Cottrell and passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Cuba Manor at the age of 59 years. Karen worked as a certified nursing aid for several years. She attended Midland Pentecostal Assembly. When her health permitted, she loved to fish, go camping, crochet and cook. She also loved growing flowers outdoors and indoors. Karen had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and listen to country and gospel music. She is remembered in earlier years being full of laughter and fun and never meeting a stranger. She had a special dog, Heidi that she loved very much. Most of all she loved her grandsons and family. She was preceded in death by her father, Vencil Cottrell.
