He served his country honorably in the Navy during World War II and later served in the Coast Guard. He worked many years as a quality control inspector for Carter Carburetor Industry. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, cooking, playing his fiddle and listening to bluegrass music. He married Irene M. Curtis and to this union two boys were born. He later married Maria Rosa Barrera on May 12, 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Bell; wife, Irene; son, David Bell; stepdaughter, Beatriz Rodriguez; brothers and sisters, Grace, Clarence, Larence, Irene, Claudie, Ernest, Nellie, Walter, Emory and Clifford Bell. Halic “Whitey” Devoll Chandler Halic “Whitey” Devoll Chandler of Arnold, Missouri was born January 29, 1924 at Huzzah, Missouri to Halic B. and Plura Goldie Huitt Chandler and passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 at his home at the age of 87 years. On May 22, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Mary Belle Worley and to this union two children were born. “Whitey” served his country honorably during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a truck mechanic for 34 years at Middle West Freight way in St. Louis. He attended Peoples Church in Arnold, Missouri. He enjoyed tinkering on old cars, fishing and hunting and going to “Mac” Donalds. Lillian Mueller Morris Lillian Mueller Morris, most recently of Columbia, Missouri, was born June 29, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the age of 86 years. Up until the time of her passing, she was blessed with remarkable good health. She was a faithful Christian and lived the Gospel every day. She gave birth to eight children and had 17 grandchildren. Her primary avocation was as the proprietor of Eagle Hurst Ranch, one of Missouri’s historic river lodges. After the sale of Eagle Hurst, she moved to Columbia to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, Jodie and Bart Brand, and their four children. She was a member of the Pachyderm’s, she worked the city, state and national elections. She exercised at Wilson’s FIT and walked to Woodcrest every Sunday. Shortly after her diagnosis and while she was still very much alert, her entire very large family scrambled from all over the country to be with her in her home in Columbia to celebrate her life. Lillian is survived by her only sibling and dear sister, Mildred Horne of Florida, they were inseparable and devoted St. Louis Cardinals fans; Josephine “Jodie” Morris and Bart S. Brand and their children, Racy, George, Sam and Clara, all of Columbia; Lili, Andy, Kelsey, Andrew and Travis, all of New Jersey; Geraldine, Chip, Alexandria, Kristine and Barrett, all of Florida; Teresa Ann Morris and daughter, Hillary Gerber of St. Louis, Missouri; Kristine and Charles Perry of Florida; Alec and Janis Morris of New Hampshire; Richard, Alison, Zachary, Jared and Neville Morris of New Hampshire; and the Hon. Olga Marie Owens Olga Marie Owens of O’Fallon, Missouri formerly of Indian Hills in Cuba, Missouri was born to William and Nettie (Berger) Lippold on January 5, 1914 in Femme Osage, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Garden View Care Center in O’Fallon, Missouri at the age of 97 years. Olga was united in marriage to Bythel Owens on October 12, 1934 in Waterloo, Illinois and to this union two sons were born. Olga was an inspector for Knapp Monarch in St. Louis, Missouri for several years. After retirement Olga and Bythel moved to Indian Hills in Cuba, Missouri were they resided for many years. Olga was a member of Cuba United Methodist Church and the Cuba Senior Center. She enjoyed fishing, arts, crafts and was known to be a cleaning fanatic. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nettie (Berger) Lippold; husband, Bythel Owens; two sisters, Viola and Evelyn Lippold. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas and wife Bonnie Owens of St. Charles, Missouri and Richard and wife Maureen Owens of Lake of St. Louis, Missouri; god daughter, Sandra Garrett of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Bessie Rosewell Bessie Rosewell of Steelville, Missouri (since 1990) formerly of Malvern, Arkansas was born July 19, 1912 in Grant County, Arkansas, to Nathan Franklin and Laura Leona (Wright) Rickman and passed away at Gibbs Care Center Thursday, September 8, 2011 in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 99 years. Bessie and her late husband, Olan Edward Rosewell were married August 1, 1931 in Malvern, Arkansas. She was a lifetime member of the Second Baptist Church in Malvern, Arkansas (joining in 1929). She was involved in the Women’s Auxiliary activities as well as Sunday School, serving as class officer and departmental officer. Bessie was noted for her hospitality skills, quilting, needlework, clothing construction (often designing her own patterns), and interior design projects. She was a firm believer in education and that a person is never too old to learn. She was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Laura Rickman; her husband, Olan Rosewell; two brothers; two sisters; three half-brothers; three half-sisters; a son, Donald Rosewell; a daughter, Janice Gahr and one son-in-law, Ronald Gahr. Glenn Robert Roth Glenn Robert Roth of Cuba, Missouri was born July 11, 1923 in Hume, Illinois to Chester and Georgia Ann Roth and passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 in Cedar Hill, Missouri. Glenn served in the army in WWII in North Africa and Italy. He worked for many years as a manager for Brown Shoe Company in Illinois. He also worked as a bus driver, real estate agent, funeral director, baker and delivery driver. Glenn was active for many years with the Cuba Senior Center. Glenn married Ruth Mary Gruen in Hume, Illinois on May 29, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Georgia Roth; two sisters, Mary and Helen; and three brothers, Dal, George and Harry. Mary Edith Skaggs Mary Edith Skaggs formerly of Bourbon, Missouri was born on February 22, 1920, to Columbus B. and Rue F. (nee Johnson) Pratt and passed away Monday, September 5, 2011 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 91 years. Edith was united in marriage to Chester Skaggs on June 25, 1938 in Farmington, Missouri. Edith became a Christian on October 15, 1950 and was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bourbon, Missouri for nearly 61 years. She was devoted to the Lord and had many jobs helping the church until her health didn’t allow her to do the things she loved. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crafts, reading, cooking and after retirement Edith and Chester traveled the country in their RV. For many years Edith was the “Avon Lady” in the Bourbon and surrounding areas. But what she enjoyed most was spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Rue Pratt; husband, Chester Skaggs; one infant sister, Nadine Pratt; three brothers, Carl, Roy and James Pratt and special daughter, Ruth Ann Hoerath. Slovensky nee Johnson of Crystal City, Missouri formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born to Everett Henry and Anna Florence Fox Johnson on Tuesday, November 15, 1921 in McGee, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 22 days. Thelma married Walter Scott Slovensky on January 26, 1946 and to this union three children were born. When they lived in Maplewood, Missouri, Thelma was past president of the United Methodist Women’s group, Eastern Star and also helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She later was a member of Center Point Church in Steelville, Missouri where they lived for several years. Her hobbies were camping, cooking, playing games, reading westerns, especially Louis L’Amour and taking Sunday afternoon drives. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Walter and her were inseparable. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Anna Johnson; husband, Walter and sister, Betty Jean (Charles William) Urban. Lester Eugene Trimble Lester Eugene Trimble of Jefferson City, Missouri, and former Cooper County resident, was born December 10, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away September 1, 2011 at the Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri at the age of 69 years. Lester was a retired steel construction worker and had also worked with Moffat Auction Service.  He loved fishing, the outdoors and practical jokes. His family remembers him as generous and not knowing a stranger. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Kirschman Hicks.
