Ruth Alma Barr
Ruth Alma Barr of Cuba, Missouri was born Tuesday, September 23, 1913 at
Chicago, Illinois to George and Lula (nee Benight) Lane and passed away
Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Steelville, Missouri at the age of 96 years,
11 months and 15 days.
Ruth was united in marriage to Stanley Arthur Barr.
She worked for the civil services for many years as a court clerk, office
clerk and jail clerk in Crown Point, Indiana before retiring in 1978. She
worked for the Democratic Party for over 35 years, was an avid bridge
player and quilter.
After retirement Ruth and Stanley would spend winters in Florida and
traveled out of the country many summers on vacation. She was a member of
the Cuba United Methodist Church for 32 years. Ruth loved her family and
friends and always enjoyed visiting with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lulu Lane; husband,
Stanley Barr; brother-in-law, Vernon W. Hoshaw; other relatives and
friends.
She is survived by her sister, Esther G. Hoshaw of Cuba, Missouri; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Paul Lathum
officiating.
Interment and prayers were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010
at the Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Indiana.

Ava Lee Comfort
Ava Lee Comfort of Columbia, Missouri, formerly of Sturgeon, Missouri and
Centralia, Missouri, was born June 17, 1920, near Steelville, Missouri to
Philip Marion and Millie Neleta Kimberlin Adams and passed away Wednesday,
September 1, 2010, at The Bluffs in Columbia, Missouri at the age of
90 years.
She graduated from Steelville High School and worked in the Steelville
Bank.
On March 21, 1942, she was married in Steelville, Missouri to Glenn
Mattoon Comfort.
After her marriage to Glenn, they moved to St. Louis, and during the war,
she worked in a factory supporting the war effort. In 1951, Ava and Glenn
moved to a farm near Sturgeon, Missouri. In addition to helping Glenn with
the farm work, she worked at the Sturgeon State Bank and later MFA
Insurance. Ava and Glenn moved to Centralia in 1967.
She was a member of the Sturgeon United Methodist Church, where she loved
teaching Sunday school. She enjoyed collecting and studying wildflowers,
buttons and seashells.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Marion and Millie Neleta
Adams; four sisters, Neola McKay, Neleta Maloney, Opal Comfort and Betty
Ferrell; brother, Henry Adams and a daughter-in-law Elizabeth Comfort.
She is survived by a daughter, Marian (John) Roberts of Columbia, Missouri;
son, Raymond Glenn Comfort of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren,
Scott (Amanda) Roberts of Springfield, Illinois, Bobby (Angie) Comfort of
Clarksville, Tennessee and Michelle (Brad) Pfeiffer of Columbia, Missouri;
eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Pauline Adams of Steelville,
Missouri, Ann (Bob) Horn of Albany, New York, Dorothy Weber of Gray
Summit, Missouri; brother, George (Sharon) Adams of Steelville, Missouri;
brother-in-law, Bryce Maloney of Salem, Missouri; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Sturgeon
United Methodist Church, Sturgeon, Missouri.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Sturgeon
United Methodist Church in Sturgeon, Missouri with the Rev. Michael Will
officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon, Missouri.
Pallbearers were Billy Frank Kemner, H.C. Russell, Mike Adams, Phil
Adams, Charles Ferrell and Gerald Brooks.
Arrangements under the direction of the Fenton Funeral Home in Centralia,
Missouri.
Marjorie M. Daniels
Marjorie M. Daniels of St. James, Missouri was born in Dixon, Missouri, on
September 27, 1921, to Charles and Bessie (Dodge) McDowell and passed away
September 10, 2010 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla,
Missouri at the age of 88 years.
Marjorie was united in marriage to George E. Daniels on July 15, 1939, and
to this union two children were born.
She enjoyed staying home to raise their children. Marjorie is currently a
member of the St. James First Assembly of God Church. In her many years of
serving the Lord she held the position of Sunday School secretary at the
Flag Springs Church, in St. James, Missouri, and Sunday School Teacher at
the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Rolla. She loved her family and
anytime she could spend time with her children and grandchildren were
extra special.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bessie McDowell;
husband, George; seven sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her children, Carol Daniels of St. James, Missouri and
Bruce Daniels and wife Mitsy of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, Chris
and Chantelle Daniels; sisters, Rometa Murphy and husband John of Spring-
field, Missouri and Lois Scales and husband Stan of San Antonio, Texas;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the James &
Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the
St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Mick Thrasher
and Mary Taylor officiating.
Interment was in the Rolla City Cemetery.

Loftus A. England
Loftus A. England of Fenton, Missouri, formerly of Cherryville, Missouri,
was born on Monday, June 17, 1929 to Lytle Franklin and Tressie Ada Martin
England and passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the age of 81 years,
2 months and 21 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lytle and Tressie England; wife,
Joan; brothers, Lytle Jr, Glen, Jack and Noel Kermit England; sisters,
Ina Halbert and Nina Waller.
He is survived by his sons, Emanuel “Bud” (Anne) Taylor, Jr. and Eugene
(Kimberly) Taylor of Fenton, Missouri; brother, Curtis England of
Steelville, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Marie England of Fenton, Missouri
and Mary Lou England of Steelville, Missouri; grandchildren, Emanuel
“Buddy” (Sarah) Taylor, Christopher and James Taylor, Michael and Shane
Manning; great grandson, Wyatt Taylor; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Friday, September 10, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at the Jay B.
Smith Chapel, Fenton, Missouri and Sunday, September 12, 2010 from
11a.m.-1 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral Service was at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating.
Burial was at the Martin Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri with full
military honors.

Missouri.
Dorothy Mae Fooks
Dorothy Mae Fooks of Cuba, Missouri was born on March 4, 1927 in San Pedro,
California to the union of Oscar and Lucille (Stripe) Cagle and passed away
on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 83 years.
Dorothy was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a member of the
3rd Order of Franciscans and was a long time cook at Holy Cross Catholic
School. Her passion in life was to serve others thru Christ.
Dorothy was a simple lady and she enjoyed bird watching, cooking, crocheting
and putting together puzzles. Her favorite part of a meal was dessert and
she truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Lucille Cagle; husband,
Melvin L. Fooks; one infant sister, Doris Cagle; other relatives and
friends.
She is survived by her three sons, Mark and wife Starlite Fooks of Cuba,
Missouri, Mitchell and wife Gloria Fooks of St. Clair, Missouri and Melvin
and wife Debra Fooks of Jefferson City, Missouri; eight grandchildren,
Rachel and husband Shannon Littrell of Cuba, Missouri, Michael and wife
Maria Fooks of Jefferson City, Missouri, Shelbey Fooks of Cuba, Missouri,
Matthew Fooks of St. Clair, Missouri, Ryan Fooks of San Antonia, Texas,
Michelle Fooks of Jefferson City, Missouri, Bryant and wife Deidra Fooks
of Jefferson City, Missouri, Lisa and husband James Myers of Colorado;
12 great grandchildren, Haley, Jamison, Tyrus, Simon, Alayna, Dylan, Evan,
Taylor, Rae Ann, Mary Rose, Donovan and soon to be baby boy Littrell; one
niece, Pat and husband Jerry Homan; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at
10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. James Finder as the
Celebrant.
Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Lena M. Martin
Lena M. Martin nee Blake of Cuba, Missouri was born on Wednesday,
June 30, 1926 to Homer Jennings Blake and Lola May Lee Blake in Shannon
County, Missouri and passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Phelps
County Regional Medical Center at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 10 days.
Lena married DeWayne Martin in Salem, Missouri on May 10, 1946 and to this
union three children were born.
Lena worked for PN Hirsch Company and later Dollar General as a Sales Clerk.
She was active in Cuba Christian Church. Her hobbies were quilting,
crocheting and sewing. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lola Blake; sisters,
Jessie Mae (Lester) Sager, Mary (Ernie) Bruce and Dolly (Herb) Lindhart;
brother, David (Gladine) Donley; granddaughter, Julie Martin Koch and
brother-in-law, Daryl Witkus.
She is survived by her husband, DeWayne; children, Woodrow (Debbie) Martin
of Cuba, Missouri, Barbara (Stanley) Helvey of Strafford, and Shirley (Jerry)
Hendon of Ellijay, Georgia; brother, Robert (Jeannie) Donley of Texas; sister,
Icolene Witkus of Belleville, Illinois; brother-in-law, Marrlan Morgan of
Sullivan, Missouri; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great
great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. and funeral service
10 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri
with Dennis Gray officiating.
Burial was at the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Arlie Lee Moreau
Arlie Lee Moreau, Jr., formerly of Fulton, Missouri, was born June 12, 1926
in Jefferson City, Missouri to Arlie Lee and Ora Mae (Williams) Moreau Sr.
and passed away September 5, 2010 in St. James, Missouri at the age of
84 years.
He married Reba Mildred Holmes.
Arlie was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Fulton. He retired
from the City of Fulton. He owned and operated Fulton Trash Service for many
years. He enjoyed playing music at church and family gatherings. He also
enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and spending time with family
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie Lee Sr. and Ora Moreau; wife,
Reba on August 10, 2009 and one sister.
He is survived by three daughters, Lanetta and husband Ernest Underwood of
Fulton, Missouri, Marilyn Woolsey and husband Richard of St. James, Missouri
and Joyce Coker of Chesterfield, Missouri; one sister, Helen Lair and
husband Rubin of Parkville, Missouri; eight grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Debo
Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri with Reverend Mike Haldeman officiating.
Burial followed at Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Bertha Lee Patterson
Bertha Lee Patterson nee Parmley of Cuba, Missouri was born on Monday,
October 26, 1936 in Potosi, Missouri to Laddon and Laura Morgan Parmley and
passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age
of 73 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Bertha graduated with an LPN degree working for 10 years in California and
Missouri in hospitals and nursing homes.
She married Homer Hewkin on November 29, 1953 and to this union 4 children
were born. She later married John Gerald Patterson in St. James, Missouri
on July 13, 1978.
She was a member of the Everlasting Covenant Church, Cuba, Missouri. Her
hobbies were sewing, scrapbooking, gardening, quilting and flower arranging.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laddon and Laura Parmley; sisters,
Mary (Earnie) Wright and Barb (Walter) Kosecky; brothers, Jimmy (Junie)
Parmley, Robert (Ora) Parmley and Raymond Parmley; brother-in-law, Jim
Bunch; and stillborn sister, Dottie Mae Parmley.
She is survived by her husband, John; children, Faith (Duane) DeRennaux of
Steelville, Missouri, Joanie (Pastor Terry) Mahurin, Mike (Cathy) Hewkin,
and Dan (Monica) Hewkin, all of Cuba, Missouri; stepson, John Patterson, Jr.
of Sullivan, Missouri; brothers, Luther (Ginny) Parmley of St. Louis,
Missouri and Floyd (Kathleen) Parmley of Ironton, Missouri; sisters, Grace
(Hugh) Green of St. Louis, Missouri and Elizabeth Bunch of Potosi, Missouri;
sister-in-law, Mardell Parmley of Colorado; 15 grandchildren; seven great
grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. and funeral service
11 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri with Pastor Robert O’Brian officiating.
Burial at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Richard V. Valleroy
Richard V. Valleroy passed away at his home in St. James, Missouri on
September 6, 2010.
He was married to Joan Christ.
Rich and Joan retired to their ranch in St. James, Missouri after 30 years
of owning and managing Valtec Hydraulics Inc., operated in St. Louis County.
He was proceeded in death by parents; wife, Joan and two brothers.
He is survived by his children, Joy Berry (Paul), Rick, Randy (Fran), Janice
Granicke (Joe) and Rod (Debbie); grandchildren, Gary (Michelle), Sherri
(Kevin), A.J., Robert, Ryan, Russell, Miranda, Jason, Jennifer, Jessica,
Zach and Corey; sisters, Diane Lammert (Tom) and Betty Cherry brothers-in-law
and sisters-in-law, Tim Christ (Carol), Gene Christ (Catja) and Janet Powell;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. and Friday
September 10, 2010 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the James & Gahr Mortuary,
St. James, Missouri with a Funeral Mass immediately following at the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, Missouri.
Irene V. West
Irene V. West (nee Bell) of Sullivan, Missouri, was born on June 26, 1938
in Argyle, Missouri to John and Jewell (nee Johnson) Bell and passed away
on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the age of 72 years.
She married Wilber Loyd West on September 8, 1955 and to this union three
children were born.
She and her family were members of 1st Baptist Church in Sullivan, where
she was active in many church activities until ill health forced her
absence.
Irene was known as a very loving person and with her husband Wilber, adopted
two sisters, Deanne and Monica. She loved to embroider and watching soaps,
especially the “Young and the Restless.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jewell Bell; her husband,
Wilber; three children, Lloyd Thomas West, Danny Gene West and Brenda Lee
West; two brothers, Earl J. Bell and Harold C. “Red” Bell and four sisters,
Sharon Ray, Iva Foster, Juanita Rowe and Bonnie Cottrell.
She is survived by two daughters, Deanne Irene Vanness of Sullivan, Missouri
and Monica N. Gilliam of Bourbon, Missouri; brothers, Claude “Skimp” Bell
and wife Jenny of Dixon, Missouri, Ronnie Bell and wife Joan of Pennsylvania,
Larry Bell and wife Sherry of Nevada; sister, Wanda King of Missouri; other
relatives and friends.
There will be no funeral services at this time.
Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
